I'm Dawn
I joined this thread in November 2018. I had my first AF day soon thereafter. It was hard! I stayed with one AF day per week for awhile and then gradually increased that.
I will continue on with what has been attainable for me, 16-20 AF days per month. So trying to keep it to 3A days per week or less.
I am drinking less for weight loss. 20 more pounds to shed still.

Good evening
Good news, I have someone to install kitchen cabinets, bad news I have not got confirmation of delivery and cabinet guy wants to install on Monday-Wednesday. I have not even ordered the counter top or appliances. LOL
But, I did not sip or drink with this news.
I will try and get to some personals but I have read everything you all have been doing xx5 -
AF last night.
Made a big decision ... I've taken too much on this summer and the stress is self imposed regarding some things. Learning Spanish being one. So I've dropped the Mon & Wed evening classes after skipping all my day time Monday leisure classes. Because I was home was not a good enough reason for me to drink so did not join DH in rum & Diet Coke which I like he does not but it was the only thing in the house.
1. Working through renegotiating mom's sale of her house; trying to get agreement on the owner finance promissory note.
2. Ordering internet, trash, mowing, etc for the house since before we relied on or had them tied to my mom's house for these services.
3. Advising her on what to get rid of and what I want to keep in my camp house since I can't make it down there before she closes so that she can move her stuff in. Let's say we don't agree on everything and leave it at that.
4. Taking time to talk to my pregnant DD who is bored but can't drive anywhere. She's scheduled to go into the hospital on Wednesday night to be induced.
5. Keeping up with my son's progress ... he was well enough to be released from the hospital!! YEAH! They cannot fly home until Sunday since they need to let him get stronger for the journey as well as he has an appt with the surgeon on Friday.
6. Caring for my son's 6 mo old very large 60+ lb puppy that seems to like to eat furniture and carpets 🤷♀️
June accountability: 10 days AF
Alcohol: 10 days (20 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

@Lilylady3k
Great resolve on the AF front. (applause)
Really good that you dropped some things out of your way too busy schedule. You can take up Spanish again after all of this quiets down to a dull roar.
Having said that, I think that I should learn some basic Spanish for my 2 week trip to Zhihuatanejo in September. Or...get a translator app? I do know the word Bano, kind of important lol.
Not good that the puppy is a furniture eater!
Good that your son is out of the hospital. Did they remove his appendix?5 -

I recently joined this thread. Last year I went AF for a whole month and the weight came off (with also tracking my meals on MFP). I gained it back (~14 lbs.) and now trying again. @dawnbgethealthy, your comments are very inspiring. My goals are like yours (drinking less for weight loss with a goal of 3A days per week or less). Yesterday I made it AF, but so far I'm not sticking to my goals. I'm starting again, will check this blog frequently and am going to use your Diary Style. Thanks for your inspiration!

My son's appendix ruptured so it was a mess in there but they cleaned it out with the surgery. He is at his friend's home for the rest of the week. Still throwing up off and on and he is really tired. But he sounds good. Mets with surgeon on Friday to check that infection has not set in and all is clear before he flies home on Sunday. DH is picking them up at the airport when he returns their dog.
Spanish! Sounds exciting! 2 week trip to Zhihuatanejo in September!!! I'm very jealous.
I have so many suggestions to help you pick up some of the common stuff.
Google Translate is wonderful. You can type or speak into it and it will translate! Spanish to English and English to Spanish!
Great beginner spanish video I used before traveling to Spain. Only 1 hour.

Duolingo (FREE. works best on computer but I use it on my phone as well ... I'm doing a little (15min-1hr each day. The repetition helps. I'm very beginner but it is great for typing and learning to spell, usage, tense, grammar, etc. Don't miss the LABS ... stories & podcasts you can read and listen to as well as help to see about comprehension. https://www.duolingo.com/labs
Podcasts to check out- Coffee Break Spanish (beginners ... 15-20 min each and gradually progresses; teacher/student and then you interact and repeat the words so get to learn the way to pronounce)
- Notes in Spanish (beginners, intermediate, advanced ... 2 people give a few words and then have a conversation fast & slow ... 15-20 min each usually)
- News in Slow Spanish ... out on Thursdays. Try to do this free and not purchase a subscription. Current news you can listen and read along both slow and then normal speed. https://www.newsinslowspanish.com

Changed my mom's address on everything! You can do so much online these days which is nice because I can help in this minor way. At 85 she was thinking that she needed to go to each or call ... but we could do it all online.

@MissMay - How is your move going? Did the cleaning out over the last couple of years help you with this quick sell and move? Do you have a landing zone yet?4

Hello everyone
Wow so much going on
AF last night so yeah,
waiting on my cabinets to be delivered, I am super nervous. Install will start on Monday so I have 4 days so to speak for demo. I will focus on cleaning out the cabinets today and tomorrow. DH and I can bring down the cabinets this weekend. I have to get my yard mowed so we can put the old stuff outside until we can take it to the dump.
@MissMay everything moving smoothly? Have you found a place to land or are you going to RV it? inquiring minds want to know lol

I will definitely use those.
Gracias : - )
Btw, I heard @globalhiker speaking fluent Spanish to the owner of the Mexican restaurant that we went to and was impressed and inspired.

Whew dodged a bullet so to speak. today was busy. The cabinets were delivered at: 7:58 am scheduled delivery 8:00 am WTH delivery people on time and even early?????
Spent some money today. Purchased 3 of the 4 appliances online through Costco to be delivered next Thurs, a day after the cabinet install is done. Then went to Best buy for the dishwasher, Costco could not deliver before the end of July. But Best buy is delivering Oh the same day as all the others. So yeah. No install is another story.
Talked to bathroom folks guess main guy had to attend a funeral and few out this am. Partner called to tell me but will follow up with a timeline for the work.
So I also went out and purchased the faucets and shower heads for the bathrooms, got the model numbers for the tub and vanities.
Needless to say I spent a lot of $$ today. Oh well, the sales guy at best buy wanted to sell me more expensive dishwasher. I just told him I am not buying a Cadillac of a dishwasher to use less than a year and give it to the new owners???Nope. I won't buy the cheapest but they aren't getting a Cadillac either.
I will definitely post before and afters. For all the stress that this involves I am doing really well alcohol wise so yeah5 -

Here are some photos from our trip. Didn't loose weight even with a daily hike, but I did have a fun time with @dawnbgethealthy. Not looking forward to going on a long AF stretch + diet, but I have to do it.

Have to say Dawn is a master mojito maker with her 3 different types of mint. Chocolate mint mojitos, so good. I am sure AF versions would be great. We did have small quantities that day so at least an attempt was made to moderate.5 -
Breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing. And you are quite a good photographer!
ETA: AF so far this week and plan AF tonight. DH has a work event so home alone makes that easier.
ETA2: But I've had a large appetite for the past 2 weeks. I'm wondering if it is connected to the pretty strong corticosteroid for poison ivy. I've been eating every single maintenance calorie and slightly over maintenance last week... to my best count, which may have been an undercount when there were moments of standing in the pantry just looking for what I could eat fast. I try to account for it all later, but I know it's never as accurate as a planned & plated meal. I'm giving generous assent to eating more under the circumstances, but I'm just trying to keep it on the rails of the planned & plated variety vs. unplanned splurges. It's also hard to sleep. I'm so fidgety, flopping around all night, hard to lie still. I had a HARD nap yesterday, and that felt great.5 -

The photo's are amazing! Are these places in BC or Alberta? Finally we are warming up and it will perfect to hike.....sad new is I have to be strapped to the house for about a week. Starting Monday that is.
Spent the day boxing up my kitchen. Filled 9 large Costco bins and hauled them downstairs to the family room. But I did organize them somewhat. I even labeled and stacked them until I realized I am going to be in and out of those bins no matter what. So I unstacked them and took the lids off. So much easier.
The cabinet install guy will spend Mon-Wed installing. Thurs appliances will be delivered. I hope installed but that is a separate person. Then next Wednesday will be the counter top people who have told me we can't touch anything for 48-72 hours. We will wait the 72. Then I can have my sink hooked back up.
The bathroom fun should get to start mid July and hopefully finish mid August.
I have to say though tonight I am sitting here with the window open, nice breeze and a glass of white wine. Did I need it no, did I want it yes.6 -
Checking in:
Great posts and photos everyone.
What should have been the beginning of our new chapter in life next week, collapsed yesterday.
After 7 weeks of busting our azzes (I dropped 9 pounds I DID NOT NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT) to prepare for closing on June 30.
All of the sudden the buyer does not have the funds they exclaimed in signing the contract that they did have, and they want to negogiate a "dirt of a deal" to us. Contract terminated because of lack of $$
Back to square one.
I did have a DownEast Cider after that phone call. Good thing is the cider is really sweet and one is more than enough.
NOT accepting sorrowful posts - I am keeping on a positive note and moving on.😊
Here is a sign I have had above my kitchen for years. It is my daily mantra.

@MissMay, sorry to hear the sale fell through. We went through the same thing this week for one of the rental properties we are selling. Buyer’s loan did not go through.
@Lilylady3k you've had so much going on! Glad things are settling down a little, ans that your son is on the mend.
I had a sinus infection last week, so 4 days AF. This week I’m back to daily drinking, so I need to ratchet that back. But I’ve been good about not having that second drink except for one day. I got another huge pour at wine night at work yesterday but did not finish it and did not have more when I got home.
The boat is FINALLY done being bottom painted, and is going in the water today! Cannot wait.5 -
@MissMay
So sorry to hear about the sale falling through : - (
Better luck with the next buyer.
Disappointing I am sure after all of that work that you put into it, but hopeful that you will get an even better offer.
@Womona
Yahoo about the boat going in!! Photos please : - )

A baby will be here any minute!4 -

Hi, all. I've made a repeated observation about myself that applies now.
observation: Episodes of over-eating/over-drinking are preceded by feelings of IDGAF--a strong disregard for "my why" or my future self well being. Sometimes but not always it's rooted in emotional disturbance. It's a little different from the "I'm upset so I deserve a treat." It's more like, "Why should I care at all?"
right now: I'm feeling strong emotional disturbance. It's only 2:15pm in my time zone, so I have several hours until dinner, what would be my typical time the over eating and over drinking would start. I need to center myself and exercise a little self-care, not slide down a slippery slope that's self destructive (or at least unhelpful to well being).
Advice/coaching appreciated.6
