Took my wonderful drive down to New Ulm yesterday! Windows open in the car! MUSIC BLARING!!! It was amazing. Got to meet two demonstrators that I've only seen on Zoom. Sat and had lunch with them. Got some GREAT hugs, that I've really needed desperately. Then drove home again, to an empty house, but for my tough, guard Chug, HARLEY, who was waiting patiently and affectionately. We watched movies and I ordered Leann Chin for dinner as a treat and we stayed up LATE!!! GREAT DAY!
Now it's IN for the day cuz the temps are supposed to get up towards the 90s! YIKES!!!

Morning again ladies ,well its almost noon here..
Went and met friends they picked up a new rescue pup who is a tri-pod oh he is such a cute thing and came off the truck with his tail a wagging.. he is going to get loved to pieces.. they also have another tri pod that is just as spoiled and 2 other rescues and dont worry all are spoiled like crazy.. i might be taking care of them for a week this summer though i dont know

Lanette— A tripod is a dog or cat that has only three legs. I watch “critter” shows on TV. (veterinarian shows). Big animals like cattle & horses seem to require four feet to survive.

Thanks Katla, makes sense. We had a tripod dog when I was a kid. He was a sweetie and got around well.

MIL is at the hospital now- we took her this morning- She thinks it is to check her ribs but they will check for UTI and what ever else.
Last night dh called me at 3:20AM(he called in to work, thankfully) that she was awake, talking to people who weren't there or to the dog, like he was right next to her but he was in the other room.
She was calming down when he called me- just called to tell me we would need to take her in to the hospital in the morning(why did he have to wake me up just to tell me that, I don't know).So he stayed awake all night, to make sure she didn't get up and wonder. Asked him why he threw her pills downstairs, that now she had to go get them. Convinced her it was a dream.
He is with her now, I came home to take care of the cats and things here. no reason for both of us to be sitting there plus I would be just sitting in the outside waiting room- only one person in with her.
At this point, we don't think she is ready for hospice care. We dealt with them with FIL- If we find out that it is, we have the numbers for who to call. I told dh that it is time to call and pay someone to do some overnight care- he can't be doing it all on his own. He is getting no sleep- he tries to nap but worries she will get up or she wakes him because she needs/wants something.
I don't want to sound mean but if it is time for hospice care, we are all very ready for it.

Waiting to hear what the doctors say today- ordered a CT for noon and waiting for the doctor now.
If they would keep her in the hospital for a few days, that would be the best thing for everyone but not sure if they will do it. Then they can see what we are talking about and we both get a break.

Need to make some coffee- tea is not going to be enough today!
Baking some for the dessert auction for the youth group at church tomorrow- may just drop it off and not stay for church- will wait and see what happens with MIL

I did walk her dog for a half hour while she ate breakfast which felt great. I will go check on him if they have to be at Kaiser more than a few hours(he is in his crate)

Debbie - so glad MIL is willing to use the commode. My DH actually quit smoking the last week of his life, though he had cut down considerably prior to that. That last week, he would say "I'm going out and roll a smoke" then either was too frail to roll one or forgot and would sit on his bench and watch the birds. It's interesting looking back now at how rapidly he was deteriorating, things I didn't realize when I was in the midst of it. That tobacco has mega control over their brains like any drug I guess. There are still pouches of tobacco stuck here and there I need to collect and toss into the garbage. I am pretty sure tobacco contributed somewhat to his death (he didn't have any cancer), but I think the main culprit was the many drugs he was taking for his Rheumatoid Arthritis and their various side effects. And more drugs to handle THOSE side effects. Sigh.

Barbara - I didn't sleep well, dreaming about grass in the driveway and re-graveling it, lol. Our house is about the same distance as yours from the county road. With houses beyond yours, it makes sense your lane is more heavily traveled and subject to wear/ruts. Since there's a new home, I'm guessing the building department assessed the road recently in conjunction with issuing that building permit, so road graveling/maintenance should be fine.

Rita - whenever Elon Musk or whoever gets that teleporter going, make sure to sign up! That way you can come visit us for a change of pace and get away from that heat and your DH if he's having a grumpy day. A balmy 62 predicted here for today so bring a sweater or two.

Like Lisa, when DH was in the Marines I got to live in Arlington VA for a year and we went exploring a lot, spend time on the beach at Chesapeake Bay, hike a bit along the Appalachian Trail, see some historical sites. So I've dipped my toes in both oceans, and have had my fill of flying and traveling.

Visitor - with my broken toe keeping me from walking with my buddy for a while, she has taken to come visit me. A lot. Other than Rosie barking and pestering her, it's pretty peaceful here in my living room. The first couple times were good, but now she's been keen to come every day. Half an hour would be fine, but 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time makes me really tired and we are starting to rehash prior conversations we've had and it makes me antsy

I know she has had a stressful week with one of her kids suffering mental illness and her upcoming knee replacement surgery, I'm glad I was here for her. She had to shed a few tears, it's safe here with me. She's doing better and the conversation is back to how she is washing all of the blinds in her house, lol. And I'm getting tired of hearing myself comment about how my broken toe and the weather is keeping me from getting stuff done outside.

And, I think she feels like with DH gone I'm lonely and need company. Nothing could be further from the truth. I truly am enjoying peace and quiet and being alone with my thoughts, planning the budget, planning meals and grocery shopping (Sue ) doing a bit of cleaning. When I need company I call someone or email. There were so many things I didn't have control over when DH was here, and now I can start to regain some control over my time and activities.

My INTJ personality is coming on strong and the "I = introvert" part means I don't get energy from being around other people for very long. Small doses are energizing but beyond that, very tiring and stressful.

Carol - so sorry to hear about the A/C on the fritz for your renters. I saw little "room coolers" at Walmart, when I guess they blow cool air on folks and can cool a small room. I'm hoping the renters can make do. I know it can be a worry. Until we had the thermostat replaced, our heat pump seemed to always go on the fritz - turn the heat ON! during hot weather so we got used to open windows and fans on the rare occasions the temps hit the mid-upper 90's here.

Pip - Poor Kirby! And you! What a year for you both. Hope Yogi is on the mend and Kirby feels good enough to run the marathon.

Kirby is definitely not in shape to run a marathon. Tomorrow’s run is supposed to b a 10k run. They have two options, a 2 mile or a 10k. He can’t run either of them so he decided he is going to walk the two mile one even though he signed up for the 10k..

I’ve noticed that a lot of people think any run is a marathon or that’s what they call it. We do marathons but those are a different bird altogether.

Here is the distance

5k = 3.1 miles
10k = 6.2 miles
1/2 marathon = 13.1 miles
Marathon = 26.2 miles

When we do any of those, they are always running only, no walking. I feel bad for him not being able to do what he signed up for. I offered to run it for him and just use his bib, he wanted to do it himself but he won’t b able to run it.

Debbie- ugh im so sorry .. yes ,have your hubby speak with her dr to make sure she stays for at least 4 days in the hospital and then she can be released to a nursing home and it will be covered by medicare..
My FIL was delisusional with a UTI and he was like that
Hospice ,people can be put on that for 2 years and be taken off and put back on.. they can give your husband info in the hospital.. believe me ,I kept up with it all for my FIL.

Pip - What a disappointment.

Haven't actually packed anything in a suitcase, but it's all laid out on the bed and I've done most of the fiddly bits. Short list to sort tomorrow for the house.
DH is packed. The car isn't coming until 5, so I think we will be kicking our heels and getting antsy.
Rain should be coming in overnight, breaking the heat. Right now it's windy, but I hope the sea will stay calm. I've packed my Kwells in my handbag!
The ship is just rounding the furthest west part of France, so slightly ahead of schedule.

I hope I will sleep tonight! I will probably go upstairs.

We are looking forward to going on another cruise this coming year. Will all depend on MIL.

He still adores me.
I think now I would park him with the grandchildren!

We always have more choices than we think.

Agreed M. But I do like traveling on my own. If I want to stop and explore something, I just do it. No need to ask DH to stop or check something out. I can go window shopping in souvenir shops and not buy anything where DH feels obligated to get something every place we visit. Oh, well….

Well I’ve never been camping with friends and only have 1 girlfriend I would consider traveling with. Like Machka, I get along better with men than women. Ps.. I have been homeless in a camper for 6 years now. However I don’t consider myself homeless, I enjoy it!

Tests back on MIL- bad UTI(yep, ladies, you were correct which we had thought it might be) plus two broken ribs. She has done nothing but yell at my dh the whole time- saying she is going home, it is her choice, not his, that he is lying and talking behind her back, doctor had to come in and talk to her after she heard MIL yelling at him.
He needs a break but won't let anyone help- being a marter(sp?) I have offered to stay tonight so he can sleep but he says it won't help-got mad when I suggested anything then out of the blue he just said, fine, you take the house, I'm done- seriously- where did that come from,
We have someone that knows caregivers but one minute he wants to do that then he doesn't and if we do, he wants to pay for it out of OUR money when she has plenty of money to pay for it herself. He says he is just going to sit there at her house and let her yell at him all night.
Can't help him if he won't let me. I know he is exhausted and overwhelmed but he needs to think before he talks to me the way he is. I am just offering some suggestions on ways to help him.
They are changing her pain meds- saying the Norco may be causing some of the mind stuff- doing lidocain patches instead.

Debbie- here in Connecticut we have something called Connecticut community care for the eldery they come out and do an assessment and your hubby can get all sorts of services for her with her finances. Please look into it through your social services ,it was a huge huge help.. and good luck.. your hubby is overwhelmed and needs a break ..
