grandmallie wrote: »Debbie- not free services my FIL owned his house.. they do an assessment of her finances he had a couple of pensions and social security
And this was when he was more ambulatory, they got him into adult day care, with transportation, meals on wheels, that didn't work out well he would lock them out lol. companions and homemakers would come on the weekends and they got him a life alert which he promptly put on his walker..
But anyway you get the idea..
See if you state might have a similar type of program..i hunted it down.. that wasn't through the hospital but i kept up with things.
THANK YOU Allie... I was going to say that if you didn't come back and explain.
Yes Debbie, LOTS of services, but not many free because of her financial situation. You should still look into them though. You and your husband, especially, should not be dealing with this alone. It's SO HARD. I get it. When we were left with Freddy's mom, we found out just how much his dad had been covering for her and it was devastating to him. We were both working full-time and just couldn't do it. Freddy ended up retiring to take care of her, but even then, emotionally, couldn't watch her decline like she did. Thankfully, his dad left her financially able to afford many services and we were able to bring in home health care aides and nurses. We used a service called Home Instead. They were wonderful. Pretty sure they're nationwide. God Bless you both.

Rita I feel you! My DH is a homebody. He never has been good at traveling especially to unfamiliar places. Being blind most likely has a lot to do with it now. I find happiness in driving in my car and finding cool places. We can both dream!
Lanette I know just how expensive black top is! Our driveway is 1/4 mile long and we just blacktopped it last year. We were able to share cost for most of it with SIL who shares driveway.
I leave for one day and am 5 pages behind. Catching up as can!

Ugh ,i feel so bad for my Son in law and my daughter today...
They ran out of oil so no hot water.. Carmine has just been totally unruly and nasty so this Father's day isnt wonderful and poor Kyle is just so hurt..I offered to pick them up dinner but Tracy said today isnt a good day.
I did text him and told him I loved him and wished him a Happy Father's day .
I know his mother wont do that..
I woke up early at like 2 am and finally went back to sleep around 4 .. going to do some laundry and try and get some stuff done around here to get ready for the new bed ( yeah )3 -
Lanette- Perhaps your neighbor/walking friend would understand if you told her you need some time alone to process everything. I am guessing she is alone, as well? I always read your posts so carefully, as my DH is also dealing with advanced RA. We have both read the articles and facts on the RA meds that he takes/has taken. He does not take them every day, which means he is in major pain every day, which means he is so very, VERY irritable every day. Your DH went downhill so fast. Sending you all of the love!
Well, here it is 8:30. I better get my butt in gear and get my projects done. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
Kelly - my neighbor/walking friend is married, though she was widowed twice. So she's had some experience at being a widow. She was young with little kids at the time, first was an accident, second was a suicide.
A new wrinkle:- she and her hubs both had C a month or two ago. They were going to take their mini-home on vacation for a week starting tomorrow, and she texted me yesterday that they may cancel since her hubs is sick (not sure with what). They both are part of the music team for their church which is broadcast on YouTube, will look and see if they are playing.
My toe/foot is slowing getting better, I have a lot of things to catch up on outside as I am able (a week of warm and sunshine starting Tuesday!). So I can't risk catching anything, even a summer cold at this point, that would sap my energy for a while. Allergies are bad enough.
My fog is lifting. Because of my husband's compromised immune system, we had no visitors in the house this past couple years and I was careful to do shopping early in the morning before stores were crowded. When the cleaner came, he went to his shop and napped in the recliner there. I need to keep limiting visitors in the house for any length of time while my own immune system is getting tuned up.
I am anxious to start walking again with her! Fresh air, exercise, appreciation for the beautiful neighborhood we live in. Beats sitting in my living room putting up with Rosie the pest.
My husband's RA case was complicated. I recall he was involved in the first trials using methotrexate in the early 90's. He took it weekly for a year, (and maybe also plaquenil? I can't remember exactly.) It arrested joint deformity but he still had resulting pain and used low dose prednisone the rest of his life along with other prescription pain relievers, muscle relaxers, omeprazole. He also self-medicated with MJ and some alcohol. I have a feeling this whole brew contributed to his memory loss.
Kelly Looking back, I think he needed anti-anxiety meds for the past several years. He always put on a brave face when he'd go to the doctor, claiming he had very little or no pain, he was still able to active, etc. Macho man. When he got home it was a different story. Would your DH consider this?
Better get crackin'! Happy Fathers Day to all the dads in your life!

Heather: Bon Voyage!
Just back from a visit to DED for Father’s Day.
DYD tested positive for Covid yesterday morning so wasn’t able to join us.
DH has just put the dinner on the table. I’m a lucky girl.

We ate a large snack at 4 and threw out all the food, milk etc. Waited for the car. No show.
After half an hour I phoned the car company. They said the car was coming at 7 because the ship was so late docking.
Of course, I said they should have let us know. He was very apologetic and gave us a £25 voucher to spend on the ship.
I found some cottage cheese. I have bars in my bag. We won't starve, but a text would have been nice.
All shall be well.
The worst bit was waiting for them to come. I feel better now.
I really enjoyed Paddington. 😉

We’re having a quiet morning at home & DH is asleep in his chair. He needs the rest. I am enjoying the view from our windows. The Osprey is sitting on the gazebo roof. I enjoy watching birds, from the Osprey & hummingbirds to herons. I am not a fan of a local bird eating yellow tomcat. :noway:4

I meet all of those criteria except the crying. I don’t cry and there would really be a mental break if I did.
KJ I brought up the changing parks and about everything you suggested. He won’t budge. Claims no money, need tires for RV, have to take dogs, any excuse at all. I’m just giving up in everything right now. I really hope I get an appointment for mental health care soon. I’m trying.

All caught up! Hugs!
I have had a relaxing day so far. DH wanted to go to The All Ford Garage for dinner today. It is a no go. They have a 2-3 hour wait without call ahead seating or reservations. It would be different if we only lived 20 mins away as we could put our name in and go home. We live an hour away. One of these days we will get there.
Girlfriends- I have a couple that I keep in touch with on FB . Two are from elementary school. One from Jr High. And two from HS. One local. My closest girlfriends are from the Philippines. We don't see each other often, but are always a call or text away. My BFF was killed in a car accident on the 4th of July 11 years ago. She was part of our Philippines group. We did a girls trip a few years ago and it was fabulous! I miss them.
More later. Started this then helped DH with something, then took a nap. Nap? Yes really. Strange dreams which I don't usually remember, but nap at any rate. Heading out for food.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.
Heather - have a wonderful cruise.
Pip - congrats to Kirby and Yogi.
Went to church this morning. Going to work on filing some papers this afternoon and do a little yard work. I figure I can do some trimming along the sidewalk and driveway and won't have to stand on uneven ground that makes my ankle hurt.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -

Please, anyone that is willing, to share thoughts/opinions about antidepressants - have they actually helped any of you with anxiety, depression, inertia, follow-through, sleep, etc.? I have been feeling so low for over 6 months now, and I have so very much to do to purge our house, give away most of our belongings, etc. Major downsizing and a move in the offing, and I cannot see through the fog...

Picked a bowl of fresh strawberries from my strawberry patch for DH for Father's Day. He looked at them at Farmer's Market and they are $10 a pint. It made them taste even better.
Watered, watered, watered today. Over 100 degree heat index. Now in 70 degree A/C.
Learning more about the negative effects of over vaxing in dogs. I believe this is the root of DrewB's anemia. It has made me relook at vaxing without checking for antibodies before agreeing to more vacinations for myself and Drew. In dogs they are called titer tests.
I think of the young man I worked with years ago who was sceduled to go overseas. Because they were in a hurry to get him over there they gave him many shots in a short amount of time. He was never the same after that. He had on going seisures. Some dogs end up with seisures for life and other side effects from an unnecessary rabies shots.
It is hard to question those in authority. I try to remind myself it is my and DrewB health that is on the line not theirs.5 -

Was on them for years. Went through therapy. My husband had passed and that was the straw that broke the camels back in bringing out a bad home life, mom disowning me for 10 years and too much more to type about. I would say that I had to try 3 different kinds of meds for about a couple of months each to see if they were working. The last pill worked. Along with therapy and support groups I wouldn’t be here today. Seek help, my husband died when I was 36 and am now 63, I did make it through the fog, u can too12 -

I've been on Wellbutrin for nearly three years now, and it has been a lifesaver. I like that is not an SSRI, I couldn't tolerate those. It doesn't change me, just kind of calms the waves.5
