I ended up doing two miles on the track this morning, alternating between running a lap and walking a lap, followed by my hour Pump class. My ankles didn't swell this morning, so I am thinking that a particular meal I had Thursday night (and then leftovers for lunch yesterday) may have been the culprit with more sodium than I usually eat. I'll keep an eye on it though.
Taking it easy the rest of the day, with a Pints and Paint class this afternoon and an early bed time, so I can get up early to beat the heat for my long run.4 -
@marisap2010 I empathize with the hard week of everything going wrong. Glad you were able to get a run in this morning and your ankles didn't swell. Sodium seems a likely culprit.

Hot again today, so started the longer run early (for me). One of our running pack of friends is moving away and this was her last run with the group so it was nice to be able to run with her. Another friend made a Shutterfly picture book for her with tons of pics from our group at races and other fun things we've done and it was so nice. We had some popsicles and other treats when she was finished up at 5 miles in. I didn't eat too much because I headed back out with others for the last 3. The popsicle was nice though. There was a 5k/10k race going on in the park and I was glad I was not trying to race in that humidity. We scored some ice and water though at a couple of the stops after the racers had all been through. The volunteers were happy to lighten their clean up loads as much as possible.
Stay safe in the heat everyone.

Encountered my first 'live' armadillo
I lived in Louisiana during my high school years, deep south. I was told the life goal for the armadillo was to make it to the highway to get run over.
Random photo of stray cat:
I dubbed him 'Skittles' cause he/she was skittish.

Read back through the last few pages to get caught up. I'm sorry to hear that so many of you have had a rough week.
@7lenny7 I know you will do your best to make sure Kody lives out his final time in the best way possible.
@kgirlhart I'm glad your mom is recovering well. Broken hips can be life changing for older folks.
@Mari33a That wreck sounds really serious. I'm glad your son wasn't hurt any worse and I hope he heals up well.
@eleanorhawkins Wildfires are so scary with how quickly they can spread and claim territory.
@eleanorhawkins @Scott6255 It sucks that your spouses aren't more supportive. My husband has always been very accommodating, but I definitely feel like he should be since he's the reason I started running! And then he stopped!!6 -

We got home at 6am today from our trip to Maui. We are watching movies and trying to stay awake to get our schedules reset. I got out for a short run on our last morning but otherwise didn't bother. I don't usually run my usual schedule on vacation and we do plenty of hiking and other activities. My husband and I have been to Maui twice before but this was the first trip for my kid, so we made sure to hit the high points abs show them as much of the island as possible. Everyone had a great time. It's such a beautiful place with amazing views at every turn. I'll drop a few pictures in a spoiler below.

Thanks @marisap2010 . I was worried about @skippygirls mom. What is the FB group called? Can anyone join? You had a nice workout today. I hope you have a great long run in the morning.
@katharmonic That sounds like a nice send off for your running friend. A popsicle in the middle of an 8 mile run does sound refreshing. Glad you were able to score ice and water from the race left overs.
@AlphaHowls Great running, as always. Hahaha on your first live armadillo. We don't have those here, but I swear the squirrel are all on a suicide mission. Skittles is a beautiful cat!
@martaindale Glad you enjoyed your trip. Your pictures are gorgeous.
Glad to hear that @Scott6255 . Thanks.
I did a treadmill run this afternoon. Just too hot for outside. Today, I was scheduled for a 50 minute Foundation Run. I decided to go for 4 miles, which took me 55:42 minutes to complete. I looked back and the last time I ran 4 miles was the end of March! I like the 10K plan I was following, but have realized because I am so slow, I am getting no where close to running 6 miles during the training. Since my goal is to run 10K in 12 days, I decided that I need to add a little more distance to my runs. I'm so glad that I didn't sign up for a race. I did a run/walk today for 4/1 minutes. The walks were at 3.8 mph, the first and last runs were 4.2 mph, the rest of the runs were at 4.5 mph. That seemed to be about right for my HR goal...had an average HR of 132 bpm and a max of 145 bpm. My goal was to stay under 143 bpm. I also walked 0.7 mile for warm up and cool down walks. Brings my total for the month to 41.40/70 miles.

@katharmonic I bet the popsicle was nice in the middle of the run!
Great job as always, @alphahowls!
@martaindale Love your pics!
@quilteryoyo Good job with your runs! I think you'll knock that 10K out! The FB group is MFP Monthly Running Challenge.2 -

I ran my 16 mile long run today, but it was slow and hot. I was soaking wet by the time I finished. Looking at my pace, it just got slower and slower and slower as the temps rose. But I got it done! I purposefully ran in a flatter part of my neighborhood, doing a 2.2 mile loop, instead of the 7 mile loop I ran last week, partially because there was a lot more shade in this section, but also because it cut out all the big hills. This is the first of two 16, 18, and 20 mile runs.8
-
Great run @marisap2010 . Good choice on the route...shade and flatter are the way to go in the heat!
I did my Sunday Rest day mile walk on the treadmill after church this morning and before lunch. I know I am going to be working a lot next week, so not sure how much running I will get in, but I'm gonna try. It's hard to believe it's the last week in July already!4 -

I did not get up early this morning and it was already hot when I got out. I took it slow and tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. I only saw one water sprinkler and I stopped and just stood in it for a couple of minutes. It definitely helped. I ran 9.4 miles. I didn't have 10 in me, but I figured that 15K would do.

I slept for 12 hours last night. It was glorious. We landed at 6am yesterday and I knew if I slept then the jetlag would get the better of me. I was out the instant my head hit the pillow and felt so much better today.
Because I slept in, I did my run on the treadmill this afternoon. For this one I ran a trail in Costa Rica. I enjoy getting to visit some new locations on these guides runs.
Back to work tomorrow. 😭
Great job getting long runs done in the heat @marisap2010 and @kgirlhart. It's tough but you got it done!!2 -
Great long run in the heat @kgirlhart
@martaindale Great running and glad you got 12 hours sleep. I'm lucky to get 7.

I never made it here this weekend but have gotten caught up on liking posts and looking at some wonderful pictures. On Saturday I ran 5 miles and then met a friend at 7:00 am and walked almost 4 miles during our Fun Fest Hot Air Balloon festival. I wanted to run at least 7 miles but I just couldn't make myself get up any earlier on a Saturday morning!
Yesterday, I rode 31 miles on my bike on the Creeper Trail and this morning I got out for a 5 mile run before work. As I was driving to the trail with my bike I saw a black bear right below my house. He was crossing the road that is on my regular running route. He looks like he is fairly young.4 -
@martaindale I am jealous of your 12 hour sleep (and your Hawaii vacation). Glad you had a good time doing both 😊
Cool bear @Teresa502! And that is a lot of work both riding and running back to back! 💪
Very nice running @marisap2010 and @kgirlhart on your long runs in the heat 🥵
I am a wimp comparatively. Just did 6 treadmill miles tonight after work.
4 -
Nice workouts @Teresa502 . The bear does look fairly young. You're going to have to be extra careful on your predawn runs on that road. I think my niece's family went to Fun Fest. You probably past each other at some point.
Nice treadmill run after work @Scott6255 .
I also did a treadmill run after work tonight. My plan called for a long interval run. I decided to go for it, but did modify it a little because I felt I was a little tight on time. The plan called for 5 min Zone 1, 5 min Zone 2, 5x(3 min Zone 4/2 min Zone 1) 5 min Zone 1. I called my warm up and cool down walks as the beginning and ending Zone 1 parts of the run. Then I ran/walked 4/1/5x(1.5/1.5/2) minutes at 4.5/3.8/5x(6.0/5.5/3.8) mph. I ended the run with 39 second at 6.5 mph to make it to 2.50 miles. It turned out to be an average pace of 12:16 min/mile, so not horrible considering there were 11 minutes of walking in that time. My warm up and cool down walks totaled 0.70 mile, so that brings my total for the month up to 45.6 miles.3 -

Today was my rest day so I did an hour of yoga (cross-training) and then ran a mile for my streak.
@Teresa502 Cute bear, but I wouldn't want to run into him.

We had some strong thunderstorms and rain in the early morning hours but they had passed through by 5:00 am so I was able to get out for my run. Met a friend and we ran 5 miles which brings my monthly total to 70.96 and for the first time in a long time I met my monthly goal! I guess since I kept lowering it, I finally got there!
@kgirlhart – I wish I was as disciplined about doing yoga as you. I like doing it while I’m doing it but just getting to that point…
@quilteryoyo – great interval run!
@Scott6255 – you are far from being a wimp – six miles on a treadmill takes more perseverance than I have!
