@KimiAR, what you said means a lot to many of us and maybe part of the reason we are all still here. Stay in the game and keep charging ahead. We are all worth it.7

I've been giving in but not totally giving up ... yet! I see I'm racking up at least 2 AF days per week with this view which is good but not as I targeted. This week my plan is Mon & Tues AF before we start a 2000 mile long road trip. Likely I can squeeze Wed in as well since that is just a long driving day. But then as we arrive at our destination and all the new venues my goal is to limit to 2 drinks each night and not drink at lunch. We'll see if this plan works given I see from above that I've been slipping over and over dipping into 3 glasses instead of limiting myself to 2.

I had an epiphany last night- I don’t really crave alcohol, I only crave wine! Last night we were out of wine but I didn’t feel like going to the market (need to do a full shopping anyway). Plus I should just drink what’s in the house. I had a Marseille Mule- vodka, ginger beer with an orange slice, of course in a copper mug. It was good but one was enough.
I have a colonoscopy Wednesday, and besides the prep which will be no fun at all, I basically can only eat chicken broth and drink water or Gatorade tomorrow. Jello is ok too, but only if it’s not the red color. Well, that’s the best one!!!!!!! So I might as well not bother. Plus I only drink coffee with milk, which is a no no for prep, and tea doesn’t cut it for me. Ugh I am going to be starving tomorrow!!! I don’t see how I’m going to get enough calories in on no solid food!7 -
7/1-7/7: 3 AF out of 7
7/8-7/14: 4 AF out of 7
7/15: A- 2
7/16 AF First Saturday I’ve been AF in….years? I got takeout for dinner for the first time in 3 months. I stayed under my calorie goal but went over my sodium and fat goal and my stomach felt awful 🤢I didn’t want to aggravate it with alcohol.
7/17: AF4 -
Hello- I'm Melissa - I lurk around this thread when I need inspiration to reduce my alcohol intake. You guys are great!
Alcohol consumption is a huge factor in my weight. Not just the alcohol calories themselves, but the "happy hour" snacks and the "I'll eat whatever I want" mentality that goes with it.
I exercise a great deal and I know if I shed 30 pounds my race performance would be greatly improved. But as we all know, weight loss is difficult and I think my exercise might make it harder because I get so hungry.
I've been pretty good this month- AF 12 out of 17 days. And -guess what- I FEEL better! Hoping I can really improve my alcohol consumption.

@Lilylady3k - Good plan! I have found that skipping that lunch drink makes a big difference in the way I feel and my discipline. Whether you stick to plan or not, the good thing is you're tracking. Some things that have helped me lately: 1) I've been making sure I get water with my drinks when we're out and about and am drinking water between drinks (for the most part ). I have found that some servers ignore my water request, but I've learned to insist/ask again. 2) Also, when eating out, it has been working for me to order soda with a splash of cranberry juice as a supplement to alcohol or as a replacement at lunch or dinner. It feels like a drink and most of the time it's served in a highball glass/cup instead of the water glass.6 -
I'm Robyn.
My goal is 16-19 AF days per month.
July is my first full month.
7/16 S - Drinks - Yesterday was a beach day, open water swim, and lunch with a beer out on the beach. So good so far, BUT, later, across the street from the beach, I had 2 mojitos and shared a plate of sloppy joe nachos with hubby. Needless to say, I went over my calorie goal and it showed on the scale next day. It only made me resolve to do better going forward. Lesson Learned: When eating out, log food/drink BEFORE, not after, eating, and limit alcohol to 1 on beach days. The 2 mojitos also made me very tired in the middle of the day.
7/17 Su- AF - Stuck to plan
Rolling Total = 9 AF out of 17 days6 -
@Womona - I empathize with you. The word "miserable" comes to mind when thinking about prepping for a colonoscopy, which is definitely is not fun. Hang in there. We'll be thinking about you.6

Hi : - )
My name is Dawn.
My continuing goal is 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 19AF days in June.
Diary style:
Friday July 15 - Mojitos with a new-ish friend (1 year). We had a wonderful visit on my shady porch during a hot day. Planned drinks for Saturday, which will bring me to 50% A and AF days.
Saturday July 16 - Gin slings and stuff. Going to try to stay AF until Friday now.
Sunday July 17 - AF - I got a touch of a sunburn saturday, so stayed in the shade mostly. Working towards a nice base tan before my September holidays so that I don't burn there. Kind of hard to get except on the weekends since 4pm does not lead to much tan. Trying for no A days until the weekend.
Rolling total - 9AF days out of 17 days.6 -
Good day to all
I did have 2.5 shots last night. I could justify it and make excuses but I won't. I own it. I wanted it. I drank it. Move forward.
I am at 10 AF days for the month and I like that. This won't be my best but that is why I call it a journey.
@RockinRobyn672 I need to do more logging Before we go out too.6 -
@RockinRobyn672 - Yes I ALWAYS order water with my meals and even when I drink wine at home I still have a water glass by my side too. Goes back to the days when I was working and dealing with conferences hosting customers ... I had a personal rule to have a water bottle between each glass of alcohol. Had to keep my head on straight! LOL

Oh gosh when was my last check in???? Stepped away to regroup. Decided since we are still living here I might as well mulch ALL the gardens so I can enjoy looking at them, verses looking at dry brown dirt.
So I was zenning out with my music, mulch and shovel for many days and the result is making me SO HAPPY.
Welcome all our new posters. I agree , you make us all feel very good knowing your following our thread. ❤
Tried some not too hard cider over the weekend, it was super light duty. But yummy.
@lmlmrn your amazing with your drive to get it done! Did I tell you I have not painted since April? My art studio is gone. So sad.
Ok gang have a super day!!!!6 -
@MissMay
I would love to see photos of your garden all nicely mulched.
Where do you get the mulch? I sort of make mine from sticks and stuff, but I wouldn't say that it is lovely : - )3 -

@MissMay I have not done any canvas painting for months too. This remodel, caring now for my mom for the next few weeks, and work on DH building landscaping whew I am tired.
Stayed AF last night, DH even brought home a bottle of Tito's for me with some V8 juice in case I wanted a bloody mary. I skipped them and maybe this weekend.
Today, contractor is here putting in my vanity/sink and toilet. He will install the fixtures whoop whoop5 -

Yes we are. When DH retired he wanted to go to a conference in Omaha so we are headed that way and plan to spend some time in Hot Springs AR too. My sister is staying home ... she is a teacher and not in school right now but neither of us wanted to see all the people my mom planned to visit. My mom is enjoying her roadtrip visiting all her family, her husband's family (he passed in 2020) and her old friends that lives across Arkansas & Louisiana. I think she is stopping to see upwards or more than 20 households. For the next few days she is at my brother's near Memphis.4 -

Good morning all!
I had a revelation last night and I’m sure many of you who find yourself here have had this type of revelation. Yesterday I worked a 13 hour day. It sucked. My boss was being a dimwit and the clients all seemed to be to be on edge. Throughout the day I was thinking “man, I’m gonna drink those two White Claws so hard tonight.” Then I got done with work and thought how are two White Claws going to solve my anger and anxiety about this day? And the last time I drank 1/2 of one, it upset my stomach. So I just sat there with my stressful feelings for awhile. Laid on the couch and ate grapes. Meditated and went to bed. This morning I’m up early and ready to face another day of work. Glad I made the choice not to drink.
Thanks for reading, hope you all find a way to stay cool and hydrated!8 -

Hi - I'm Robyn.
My goal is 16-19 AF days per month.
I found this group at the end of June. July is my first full month
7/18 M - AF
7/19 Tu - Drinks (1) - Plan was AF but had a beer with DH (finally figured out what that means ha!) and also had late night snacks (drats!). The win is that I didn't totally overdo it like I normally do with the snacking and drinks. My birthday is coming up and I'm also planning to see old friends while in Florida. I'm stating it here. I will make a reasonable plan for how I'm going to handle all of that and stick to plan.
Rolling Total = 10 AF out of 19 days
@dawnbgethealthy - Agree about the scale going down when I don't have alcohol.7 -

Tuesday July 19 - AF - Worked an extra unexpected shift, really felt like having drinks afterward, but I am picking up extra shifts for Wednesday, so didn't want to go into a very long day feeling possibly not great.

What you describe is exactly where I am now. Except my stress is elder care crisis not work. Situation with one set of parents has deteriorated and is kind of ridiculous but not emergent with the other. Cliff notes version, the two in medical crisis now have covid on top of everything. And they feel really *kitten*. Every single symptom. Naturally, the nursing help lined up to start yesterday had to be postponed. I went over there to take them groceries and some Rx but they are largely isolating on their own. After falling on steps together a few days ago (whereupon I had to call emergency services to help me get them up and checked out). I have not had covid and have been pushing my 4th shot for one more month to maximize antibody response for international travel in September. I tested negative yesterday but I keep having contact so it kind of feels inevitable that I'm gonna get it despite all the precautions. Wondering if I should just start isolating from DH but CDC website says not necessary and he did have his 4th shot before international travel in May.
tl;dr: anxiety about parents.
I too notice that being so on edge dims food & beverage appeal. It just feels like there's no point. Weirdly, I also am uncommonly efficient with unappealing office tasks that are otherwise tempting to procrastinate. It's like, this task sucks but at least it will totally occupy my mind and distract me from my anxiety for a while. So I'm getting stuff done and doing fine with my weight and having no temptation being AF M-Th but weekends are all over the place. One night I'm ambivalent with one drink and the next I don't have an off switch. WTF?8 -

@ahoy_m8 Yikes! What you are going through is so draining and stressful. I have been there with grandparents when parents needed a break and with my caregiver job. Its never ending. Im glad you have a vacation planned but it cant come soon enough huh? Im so sorry to hear they have COVID. What a nightmare. You sound like you are keeping relatively sane through it though and you seem strong. I cant remember, are there any siblings in the picture? I know you are the closest one. Hang in there!
Drinking.....I would love to sit back and get that feeling of being really drunk but I just dont think I can do that anymore. At least not right now. I would just be anxious and then there would be the hangover to deal with for days. I have a beach vacation planned for December and am imagining some fruity cocktail on the beach but I dont know how I will feel by then. Ive been lurking the sobriety thread and I know I am not ready to be there.5 -
@joans1976 Three other sibs and they are all great people. Two in Colorado and one in Arkansas. The two step-sibs tag teamed staying with them last week (when stepdad had kidney stones) which is how the parents got COVID 😕. My brother is overseas ATM but he’s in touch. He will be here 1st wk Aug for mom’s bday but mostly to help with our dad’s situation. That’s dedication coming to Texas in August. I truly hope mom makes it that long and has a pacemaker by then. She’s been in heart failure 2 weeks. Scary.
My parents alternate thanking me and being mad I’m not doing more. Tonight my mom is mad I didn’t drop everything to make her fideo for dinner. Boundaries are so important with her because no amount of servitude is enough. No matter how much I do, there will be an episode of anger I’m not doing more. I really have to focus on doing what feels right to me and not worry about what anyone else thinks. I’m already spending time in their apartment for essential stuff, taking them to appointments and doing their errands. You said it— draining. Unending. I’m not a short order cook. They have tons, tons of food. She just likes the feeling of me dropping everything to take orders. It makes her feel important. Boundaries piss her off.6
