Wow, what is going on. I had a crazy, drama loaded day but it does not compare to what you all are dealing with...
I so feel for you all going thru challenges with parents and all. I can relate and it does take so much energy, incredibly taxing and every bit of strength is needed to deal with it.
@lmlmrn, I wonder if your equipment battery fried. Good luck.
Putting my insomniac self to bed. Ran out of melotonin and no wine in the house and I can't sleep4 -
Hi everyone, my name is Jen. So happy I stumbled upon this thread, it’s just what I need. I have been getting too used to having a drink or two, 7 nights a week. Typically a couple of shots of vodka. Nothing crazy, never drunk, but just not necessary. Especially when I am trying to lose weight, have struggles with sleep, etc. Then my sister was diagnosed with cancer and passed away 5 weeks later. I am concerned that my eating and alcohol consumption may get out of hand with all this intense grief. So I am working hard to work more AF days into my week.
So far this week I’ve had a glass of white wine on Sunday, but that’s it. Some nights are easier than others. Thanks for reading! Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Welcome, and I’m so terribly sorry for your loss. It is very easy to drink grief away. I always found that grief hits like a train at the most random times, or there is a low level crabby mood, and it’s really grief. Good for you for recognizing that you don’t want the “easy way out” of drinking through it. Also I’m in the same boat as you, daily drinker trying to lose weight, so working hard to not be a daily drinker!3 -
Hi all, in my mind I posted last week but I clearly did not! I stuck to my goals on July 4th weekend, last week and this past weekend, so I’m very proud of that! Only went over Sunday’s by half a glass of wine. AF last night. Today my husband and I celebrate 25 years of marriage! We are going to a great restaurant near us, so yes I am having wine!6

@ahoy_m8 Im so sorry for the tough spot you are in! I was a caregiver (both in home and at facilities) for many years. In some cases, it is a thankless task, in some cases, it is so sad to see the burden the family is bearing. From what I understand, there is a shortage of caregivers, the pay isn’t great and it definitely isn’t a glamorous job. Are you the only family your parents have nearby? My parents are elderly and although still relatively independent, I can see in the future that I will be the main caregiver out of the three of us children.
I will be thinking of you!6 -

Hi : - )
My name is Dawn.
My continuing goal is 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 19AF days in June.
Diary style:
Sunday July 10 - AF - The plan is to stay AF until the weekend. I used to say "no drinks 2 days in a row" but have changed that up with my schedule and have been having drinks on Fridays and Saturdays instead of every 3rd or 4th day..
Monday July 11 - Drinks. Well, my plan to stay AF until Friday didn't work out. I managed to put it off 5 times during my breaks from working in my yard in the hot sun. After the 5th time (had an AF beer the 4th) I took my blue drink out of the freezer. During my 6th break I had a couple of sips of it and put it back in the freezer. When I decided I had enough of sweat dripping in my eyes I called it a day and had a couple more drinks.

@ahoy_m8 and @lmlmrn - Sending ((HUGS)) and peace of mind your way. Caring for our family especially stubborn and ailing parents is challenging. And we thought raising kids was tough! Hang in there. I hope that all the issues are resolved and everyone gets healthy once again!
On the mom front. My 85 year old mother is planning now to go on a 3 week driving trip over 2500 miles in total without a co-pilot. She wants to do a spin around Texas Arkansas and Louisiana to say hello goodbye to old friends. She says this is the last time ... hmmm not sure I believe her on that front. She use to do this with her husband each year stopping each day to visit with family and friends and moving on to the next (usually more than one visit each day). When she went on this trip last fall she said it was her last time but nope here she goes again. My sister and I cannot talk her out of it and neither of us are available to go ... nor do we want to visit all these people. Crossing my fingers that she is safe on the roads!
On another note. I've given up complaining to my kids about my mom because they say I'll be just like her ... taking off on roadtrips or doing what I want when I want ... and do I really want them to tell me what to do. They have a point. Ciao!5 -

I admire the fortitude, courage, humor, and honesty this group has...you all bring a lift to my life when I need it. I am going through a transition time but hopefully I will get clarity soon.
@lmlmrn, truth be told, I think I still have your old oven! The important thing is that you are happy with your new kitchen! Countertops look lovely!
My stress is a bit off the charts tonight, maybe like some of you. Life piles it on heavy sometimes and that was today. Deep breaths and I hope I get some quality sleep and reset in the morning will do me good.

My plan was to stay AF until Thursday, but my planned dinner plans fell through. We had limited groceries but it worked out. We had a bottle of chardonnay, a salad kit, and frozen pizza. I badly need to do some grocery shopping!5 -

Wow! What a cool, adventurous, mom you must have and what a cool mom you must be! I know you will worry. My mom was a lot like that - spunky and very stubborn. She lived to 95. She had to stop driving at 89, but she was a great until then. She would take off to Richmond, VA from NC to see her brother. She didn't know how to use Google maps, so did it on memory. It was worrisome then, but looking back I'm glad she could do it. It had such a negative impact on her quality of life when she could no longer drive.4 -
7/1-7/7: 3 AF out of 7
7/8: AF
7/9: A
7/10: A
7/11: AF
7/12: 2 sips A
I stopped work yesterday very angry at my boss and wanted to drink. I tried to avoid it, I showered, went for a walk, meditated and took 1/2 an anxiety pill. I cracked, I opened a drink. Took 2 sips and poured it down the sink. 🤷🏻♀️I feel much better this morning.
Have a good day all!5 -

Tuesday July 12 - AF - Went and did some of my Foster Grant jobs in air conditioned stores after my restaurant job. Very hot out. I think that if I had come home and worked in my yard I would have been more tempted by cool cocktails afterward. Planned AF Wednesday and Thursday.

LOL that stove is/was a beast lol. But like all good things must come to an end. The kitchen still has a long way to go but nearly there.
AF yesterday so yeah. Mother is have a better morning so far but we will see what the day brings. Her hospital stay may be longer than we anticipated.
I may not comment on many posts but I read them all and you keep me going and grounded. This AF is not second nature even after 1.5 years of less (less not gone). Less for me looks like no longer a daily drinker. Now I have to conquer the weekend 2 beers. But I am not sure I want that gone just yet.
My kitchen dishwasher and facet are going in this am! water in my kitchen yeah
