Less Alcohol ~ JULY 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

2 glasses of wine on a Friday night is not bad. But it broke my rule of no more than 2 nights of alcohol in a row. Need to work on this habit. I use to do M-Th as my AF nights before retiring. And it worked well. But that rule really didn't make sense. Does this rule also not make sense? No both are good. I just need to ensure I'm getting a few more than 2 AF nights per week. Still a work in progress.
July accountability: 6 days AF
Alcohol: 9 days (19 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.6 -
Hi All - My goal is no more than 3 A days per week (16 - 19 AF days per month) and no more than 3 on those days, even if it's a Saturday out on the boat or beach.
7/13 W - Drinks - My plan to stay AF until Thursday has not worked out this week. I did fine until after dinner. I shared a beer with hubby, then had another one, and then I did some late night snacking, also not on my plan. UGH! I'm moving my remaining AF days this week to Thursday, Friday, Sunday.
7/14 Th - AF - I thought last night would be hard because we went to a favorite bar to listen to great live music. I had a couple of sodas with a splash of cranberry juice and it was refreshing and delicious!!! Normally I would have ordered a couple of beers. Yay me!
7/15 F - AF - Made it through a Friday night AF while going out on the town. My drink of the night was soda with a splash of cranberry. If I can have something fun instead of water or tea, it makes a difference. @ImImrn - Agree with you that everyone is doing great! We may not stick exactly to goal but the challenge and the support of this group is awesome! I'm also going to try out your tonic and bitters idea. That sounds like a good mix.
Rolling Total = 8 AF out of 15 days

Hi : - )
My name is Dawn.
My continuing goal is 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 19AF days in June.
Diary style:
Friday July 15 - Mojitos with a new-ish friend (1 year). We had a wonderful visit on my shady porch during a hot day. Planned drinks for Saturday, which will bring me to 50% A and AF days.
Rolling total - 8AF days out of 15 days.4 -
7/1-7/7: 3 AF out of 7
7/8-7/14: 4 AF out of 7
7/15: A- 2
7/16 AF First Saturday I’ve been AF in….years? I got takeout for dinner for the first time in 3 months. I stayed under my calorie goal but went over my sodium and fat goal and my stomach felt awful 🤢I didn’t want to aggravate it with alcohol.4 -
I'm Robyn.
My goal is 16-19 AF days per month.
July is my first full month.
7/16 S - Drinks - Yesterday was a beach day. I got in an open water swim, and had lunch with a beer out on the beach. Later, across the street from the beach and live music, I had 2 mojitos and shared sloppy joe nachos with hubby. Needless to say, I went a bit over my calorie goal and it showed up today on the scale. It only made me resolve to do better today and going forward. Lesson Learned: When eating out, log food/drink BEFORE, not after, eating, and skip the alcohol on beach days. It also made me very tired in the middle of the day.

This week went ALMOST to plan. I failed on the "Sunday is a school night" thing and ended up having beers and wine. It was my husband's first weekend off since May and we indulged in a bad movie and couch day and the lure of the beer fridge (especially since he was having them) got to me. I regret it today.
This week, same plan, no drinking on a weeknight.9 -
I have lurked here for a few months. Pop in and out at odd times. But thank you for being the encouraging group you are. I think about you all every night and have significantly cut my alcohol intake down per evening. (Went to truly lemonades from wine every night.). It’s easier to say no to a drink or even just another drink when I think of you all. Thanks for letting me lurk. It means a lot - love, a complete stranger11

@KimiAR, what you said means a lot to many of us and maybe part of the reason we are all still here. Stay in the game and keep charging ahead. We are all worth it.7

I've been giving in but not totally giving up ... yet! I see I'm racking up at least 2 AF days per week with this view which is good but not as I targeted. This week my plan is Mon & Tues AF before we start a 2000 mile long road trip. Likely I can squeeze Wed in as well since that is just a long driving day. But then as we arrive at our destination and all the new venues my goal is to limit to 2 drinks each night and not drink at lunch. We'll see if this plan works given I see from above that I've been slipping over and over dipping into 3 glasses instead of limiting myself to 2.

I had an epiphany last night- I don’t really crave alcohol, I only crave wine! Last night we were out of wine but I didn’t feel like going to the market (need to do a full shopping anyway). Plus I should just drink what’s in the house. I had a Marseille Mule- vodka, ginger beer with an orange slice, of course in a copper mug. It was good but one was enough.
I have a colonoscopy Wednesday, and besides the prep which will be no fun at all, I basically can only eat chicken broth and drink water or Gatorade tomorrow. Jello is ok too, but only if it’s not the red color. Well, that’s the best one!!!!!!! So I might as well not bother. Plus I only drink coffee with milk, which is a no no for prep, and tea doesn’t cut it for me. Ugh I am going to be starving tomorrow!!! I don’t see how I’m going to get enough calories in on no solid food!7 -

Hello- I'm Melissa - I lurk around this thread when I need inspiration to reduce my alcohol intake. You guys are great!
Alcohol consumption is a huge factor in my weight. Not just the alcohol calories themselves, but the "happy hour" snacks and the "I'll eat whatever I want" mentality that goes with it.
I exercise a great deal and I know if I shed 30 pounds my race performance would be greatly improved. But as we all know, weight loss is difficult and I think my exercise might make it harder because I get so hungry.
I've been pretty good this month- AF 12 out of 17 days. And -guess what- I FEEL better! Hoping I can really improve my alcohol consumption.

@Lilylady3k - Good plan! I have found that skipping that lunch drink makes a big difference in the way I feel and my discipline. Whether you stick to plan or not, the good thing is you're tracking. Some things that have helped me lately: 1) I've been making sure I get water with my drinks when we're out and about and am drinking water between drinks (for the most part ). I have found that some servers ignore my water request, but I've learned to insist/ask again. 2) Also, when eating out, it has been working for me to order soda with a splash of cranberry juice as a supplement to alcohol or as a replacement at lunch or dinner. It feels like a drink and most of the time it's served in a highball glass/cup instead of the water glass.6 -

@Womona - I empathize with you. The word "miserable" comes to mind when thinking about prepping for a colonoscopy, which is definitely is not fun. Hang in there. We'll be thinking about you.6

Sunday July 17 - AF - I got a touch of a sunburn saturday, so stayed in the shade mostly. Working towards a nice base tan before my September holidays so that I don't burn there. Kind of hard to get except on the weekends since 4pm does not lead to much tan. Trying for no A days until the weekend.
Rolling total - 9AF days out of 17 days.6 -
Good day to all
I did have 2.5 shots last night. I could justify it and make excuses but I won't. I own it. I wanted it. I drank it. Move forward.
I am at 10 AF days for the month and I like that. This won't be my best but that is why I call it a journey.
@RockinRobyn672 I need to do more logging Before we go out too.6
