Debbie ~ So sorry for you and your husband concerning the MnL! Y'all are so good to continue to put up with her mean ways. I suppose a lot of it is the decline of her mental state and physical abilities.
Leslie ~ Lovely photos of you and your husband and the lake. Must have been a wonderful get-a-way.
I am so proud of myself! Our modem died this AM and we had no tv, internet, or landline. I went to the internet store and got a new modem, put the connections on, and then spent over an hour trying to get everything right. Our internet provider finally sent me the app needed to get the new modem working.
Also, went to the dermatologist to have more of my sun damaged spots iced. She is prescribing a cream to use for 14 days that is supposed to chemically get rid of all the places on my arms and hands. I was told that doing this would not be pleasant as it is a very harsh treatment. But, it will be good to have some of the sun damage removed.

(her son) Yeah, cuz that's gonna happen. I love that "civilian mindset". She really thought it was just like asking for time off, like in a regular job. Bless her heart. She couldn't even wrap her head around it when we explained that the military doesn't work that way. She said, "why not?"
OH PIP!!! One of my biggest fears! At least my pix are immediately backed up to Google so there's that. But I LIVE by my phone. It has all my alarms and notifications and just everything! I'd go nutz!
Grands are coming for the weekend so AJ can attend a wedding. I'll be exhausted by Monday, but that's okay... love them little buggers and they love being here.

Yep, for most of the time my family has snubbed my husband because they think he's snobbish. My sisters and I were invited to Hawaii, paid for by my father because he had a condo once. We paid for our spouses. My husband had been to so much of the touristy places he would rather relax by the pool and read. They had whole days packed traveling to this place and that. My husband and I were just glad to be together, because he had been out to sea. So they thought we were so rude and aloof. My eldest sister is still kind of mad at my husband for (in her eyes) not letting me be all I can be, (whatever that means!). To explain that there's a specific way to act being a military wife, and mother is hard to explain to civilians. That your actions reflect on your sailor, and if overseas your actions reflect what they view of all Americans.
I belong in a Facebook military moms group, and some of the moms get reality 101 lesson from me sometimes. Telling them the reality of the Navy world helps me deal with my issues with my sailors.👍🙏.

Debbie I am so sorry mother in law is treating you and husband this way. My heart aches for you guys and the situation. When I was caring for husband as he was waiting for his liver transplant, I joined a caregivers support group. It was held at the local senior center and it really helped me process things. Being a caregiver I never knew how my husband would be from day to day. Its really no different than living with an alcoholic. I was constantly resetting and adjusting day to day my mindset. It was physically draining, on top of the unpredictably of it all. For you guys its similar as you don't know what might set her off into verbal abuse. Its affecting you physically. These are all warning signs. Attending these meetings was for an hour a week and I could PUT my pain and anguish somewhere. We didn't always talk about our troubles, sometimes it was humorous stories, but it was a safe haven. I'm not telling you what you guys need, but just giving you resources.👍🙏. Hugs friend!

sadly Carol- this has always been her mental state- just a mean woman- all she wants is a maid to wait on her hand and foot while she treats them like dirt. This is nothing new. Now that she is physically feeling better, the meanness has come back even more than before.. She really does find so much joy in causing torment to others, especially her son, who now is the only one she has left and he feels obligation to take care of her. No love, care,etc- just obligation.2 -
Viv--I have a tens unit I got at Walgreens and I use that when my knees and back are giving me fits. I do think it helps. I hope your mom has good luck with the one she ordered.
Pip--Sorry to hear you lost your phone.
Heather--Great news on the new shoes. They can make such a positive or negative inpack on how we walk.
Debbie--How terrible. I agree he needs to record these things and talk to someone. Keeping it inside is not good for him or you. Remember we are here for you so vent all you want. I don't know the spoilier thing and don't worry. If someone doesn't want to read it, they can skip over it.
Rebecca--You are truely a special lady and good for the military.
Well glad it is Friday, feel I say that a lot, but I am. It is 100 outside and when I get off at 6pm. going to ride the motorcycle to a little town about 30 miles away with our CMA group for supper. By then it should be cooling down. Tomorrow have 2 birthday parties. DSIL a surprise for her 75th and then DGS who just turned 8. Sunday is church and then I may have the afternoon to myself as DH is going to help at a Art in Park event.

What a sweet thing to say friend! I recall the feelings I felt when each of my sons went in the military. Lee helped me by letting me reorganize the living room, and changing bedrooms around. Little did I know it was a great distraction from the angst I felt in the kids leaving. It physically worked out the trauma of my worried heart. He is a smart cookie.💖👍. I have learned some good coping mechanisms that I pass on to many of the new Navy mommas. It makes me feel accomplished to know I am passing on the tools I have learned to get by.💖

Monday the 11th invested 30 mins sorting paper, only able to purge 5 pcs, but organized into 3 piles: act on now, file now, try again later. Cleared the deck for marathon minute writing session for last month’s fire district board meeting, barely in time for Wednesday’s, meeting :P
Welcome @bethe Beth in upper south TX Would love to learn to spin and see pics of your fibre art.
Barbie that Benjamin Franklin quote made me laugh out loud! Thanks!
Terri and Lanette, Joe is the purger of our family and I am the one that keeps old stuff. Like the club chair I’ve had since college that one day I’ll learn to reupholster. Joe’s moved it 6 times now and every few months asks when he can take it to the dump…
Heather your going out from your comfort zone, what a great memory gift to, and example for Edie. BravaNonna!
Michele ((hugs)) and prayers for Lexi, Vince and you.
Kylia whew for the mammo results, congrats on the win, understand about the trophy;) What Okie and Lisa said so very very weill. ((hugs))
Rebecca, a pipe organ in your sister’s garage?!? That sure trumps my antique gas stove
Suebdew wish I could take your water aerobics classes!
Debbie so sorry DH’s justified bitterness spills over onto you. Is there a compassionate way you can call him on it? You are not his mother, you didn’t do those things to him, you are his partner in life and on his side.
Machka, that sitting room, not just a different ceiling fixture but a different sofa. It would take a crane to get me out of that one. Love the color palette and woodwork though. But OH that Library, Other than choosing a different colored upholstery fabric all its missing is a fireplace and a rolling library ladder.
Lanette, loved that 60 mins Australia segment on aging. Gives me hope and strength to resist medicating my occasional hypertension…
Rita hooray for the healing power of your saltwater lake!

Barbara The stone is labradorite and one of my favorites!
Debbie I wish there was a solution to get you and your dh out of the caretaking role. It gives me such memories of how there were times I felt so with my MIL. She wasn’t near as bad but it wears and it’s not easy. I’m a glass is half full person. Always have been. She hated it and nicknamed me ‘Susie Sunshine’. She said it with such p!ss and vinegar too. *sigh* She’s been gone since February and I still wished we had gotten her in somewhere vs. remained with us. I agree with you your dh should seek some counseling.
Carol My dh and I had such a great time! But then we can sit on our front porch and do the same!
HURRAY for being your own best tech support!!
Height 5’9” but 90 pounds to lose. I’m happy that in about 50 pounds it’ll look better but still… it’s happening - that full 90!
Clothes I like eclectic things. Vintage is my favorite. Kimonos, butterfly blouses, a nice capris or jean short. Also I love hats but mainly in the fall.
We recently bought a big swamp cooler (evaporative cooler) for our porch and we’re all enjoying it immensely. It takes a 98 degree deck down to roughly 85 with cooler air blowing. It’s like cheating! Haha Love it!
For anyone struggling or in need of virtual hugs **hug** I hope it all gets better very soon!
Leslie from the Ozark’s
Stay cool and happy.5 -
Rebecca and Barbara and Leslie!!- THANK YOU- Having a place to just let it out and getting wonderful insight is so amazing.
One positive(and I am really trying to stay as positive as I can be) is that I am getting out and walking so much and now I seem to want to keep walking- don't want to break my 10K plus steps- I did break it Sunday after I think 15 days but that is ok. Not snacking as much as I was because I am out walking or going to Zumba and, if I do snack, I am burning off a lot more calories than what I am eating.
I will walk with one friend tonight- I won't get 10miles in(23,000steps) like I did yesterday but way over my 10K, beings I am about at that now.
Sunday I will go to church and then take food over to MIL- dh told her he has to work that afternoon so he can go to the Contra Costa Con- at first he said he wasn't going but I kept pushing and now he is going-He really needs this. If it isn't too warm, I will walk Kobe, if not, I will just drop the food and leave.
I am not staying. She truly just wants a servant there to wait on her hand and foot for any thing she might think of that she wants. One more week until she gets her cast off and she should be able to do even more for herself.
Debbie

Went in the pool then powerwashed the sidewalk by the pool. Tomorrow I’ll powerwash the patio under the deck. Colby helped me take off the hose. It was on so tight (I guess I did too good a job...lol). Then went to the Newcomer dinner at this one restaurant.
Worked then went in the pool, then to Hallmark for Vince, then cleaned the spa, ran Rover, and powerwashed the lower patio. Jess had been mentioning (was it from Colby or her? That I don’t know) that Colby wanted to feel like he was contributing so I told him to help powerwash. Truthfully, we’ll probably reado it when he leaves. Then went for a walk, now here and will probably go to bed soon.
Vince’s leg is still hurting him. I would like to go for Chinese for dinner tomorrow since I know Jess and Colby like Chinese. I really would like to go someplace different, but Vince might want to bring it home, so we’ll just play it by ear. I made manicotti for dinner tonight. Had Colby help with Rover. When Jess came I jokingly told her “well, now you can get a pool since Colby knows all about taking care of it.”
I made brownies for Jess and Colby teased her and told her they had zucchini flour in them. I just thought to myself “no but they do have tofu in them”. I’ll probably tell Colby but not Vince or Jess.
Pip – whenever I even think I may have lost my phone, I start to break out in a sweat.

Didn't get out into town yesterday after all, I was getting ready and noticed it was pouring with rain. Rained for most of the morning so decided we'd leave it until next week. Mind you the weather forecast for next week is hotter than ever, temperatures are predicted to reach 38 degrees We have never known temperatures so high - not that I can remember anyhow.
I slept a bit better last night and feel more energised this morning. I'll need to get all my chores done before the weather gets too hot. Who knows I might even try and get some exercise done too
Need to go to the pet shop today to get Leah's food and treats, I don't know this dog costs a fortune to feed, she has to have grain free food which is more expensive than the normal cans of dog food you get from the supermarket. When I was working I used to get Felix cat food and Winalot dog food at a discounted price at the staff shop, but Leah we can't give Winalot to Leah it has cereal in it and she is allergic. I have to check the ingredients on her treats too and make sure they don't contain any cereal. It can be difficult (and expensive) to find grain free food.
We are a bit worried about our cat Maggie, she has been sick a few times this week. Not sure if it is the heat or if there is something going on with her. She seems in good spirits and eating/drinking, so I'm hoping it is nothing too serious. We'll see how she goes and if it continues or she looks to be losing weight we'll get her to the vet.
Better get a move on, it's starting to get hot
Take care and love to all

Vicki good to know that your TENS machine works for you, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it helps with my mums pain as she does struggle with it every day.

Carla 12 hours in a car with ANYONE else could cause me to do violence…
Rebecca, “…Helping shouldn't make someone cry…” ((hugs)) Yours, Karen’s and others to Katla :
Barbie “forget injuries, remember kindness” words to live by.
Vicki yours to Rebecca, spot on. Good luck with the reviews, one of the worst things about being in a supervisory position.
Kim I too really need another pair of summer weight pants. Gritted my teeth and tried in the only store in town that sells new clothing, Fred Meyer’s. Added to all you said, there were absolutely no petite anythings. At 4’10” that stinks. And ditto what you said about online shopping. Even after reading reviews and checking inseam length, had to return the pair of khakis I ordered as the length from waist to crotch was way too long. Made me look like an old lady gangsta wannabe. Just ordered straight leg Dockers, hope they’re the same as the ones I’ve worn out, and that if the 29” inseam is too long, I can find someone in town to hem them. Capris as ankle length pants? Brilliant!
Debbie your determination to make 10K step goal in difficult circumstances is inspiring!
Allie prayers for Jean’s mom, her family and you. You took care of her for quite awhile, know it’s hard. Fingers X’s for an easy, painless and favorable mammo.
Annie hope the bloodwork order was easily found.
Machka its rare I can find petites at either of our two thrift stores, but I should try again.
Miss Kellie sounds like a real “Peyton Place” at yours
Carol I loathe shopping for clothes in stores and trying them on, but dislike getting them home and finding they’re not right then having to decide to go through the return hassle or squander the $$ and donate the item. Barbie’s decision fatigue kicks in with no good results. Brava for walking with hand weights!
Terri bon voyage, what a proud and happy journey!
Katla ((hugs)) hard decisions. Relieved you’ll be moving to your DD’s property. Praying for your DH’s strengthening and safe flight to join you there. Safe travels and keep us in your pocket.
Heather heat complicates fatigue. Imho better to keep cool than try to push.
Michelle ((hugs)) to you and Vince. Hardest but kindest thing. Praying for comfort and healing to Vince, grief and injury are a hard combination.
Lanette tape measure waist, inseam, crotch to waist and broadest of beam, brilliant! Will put those measurements in my phone and tuck my mini tape measure in the glove box for whenever I get inspired to try again.
My basic attire: jeans, turtlenecks, plaid shirt jacket, smart wool socks, hiking boots. Church wear is worklife leftovers. On our rare hot days, its Hawaiian shirts and light weight long pants. I like tunics but haven’t found any that were “just right”.
Only through pg 30 but time to snooze.

I was inspired to try out my new running shoes this morning. I was out of the house at 8.15. I managed to 'shuffle-run' the whole 5k. First time in over 4 weeks, with covid in between. I did sit on a bench for 4 minutes to let my hips recover, but otherwise I did the whole thing in one go.
The beach at 8.20.
We are expecting extreme heat on Monday and Tuesday. It's never as bad down here by the sea, but DH is not going to the funeral of his friend and G has cancelled her trip to London to see v old friends.
I won't go to pick Bea up from school. DH can go if he feels up to it. He could do the Uber thing, like I did this week, or drive, but I suspect he will not make life easy for himself.
I listened to a long podcast while I was out shuffling. It's on Spotify, Dr Rangan Chatterjee. Feel Better, Live More. #291 Tim Spector: The latest science on gut health (and how to find the right diet for you)
I'm ignoring the Zoe stuff at the end, but I enjoyed listening to what he said and will be changing my 10 year habit of counting calories and logging my exercise. In truth, it isn't working any more. The best it does is stop me putting on even more weight, so I'm going to try intuitive eating and exercising with the emphasis on a healthy gut. I'm going to try trusting myself and listening to what feels good for me. I've been AF for the last couple of evenings and that feels very good. I will continue that for a while longer. I'm eating very healthily with at least 30 different plant based foods a week and nearly all unprocessed foods, so I just need to renew my commitment now that my covid slump is over.
Strangely, when I did not really fancy eating during covid and afterwards, I was eating much more and much worse, and drinking every evening. Now I have my energy back I'm not doing that.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -

Restless night, but they can't all be good. Bless him, my DH was out in his recliner by 7:30 p.m., and I finally woke him enough at 9:30 to get him to go to bed. I'm pretty sure he's going to sleep in this morning if I can convince Egg not to try to wake him. She gets worried if he isn't up in time to go to work. After all, he's the reason for the never-ending supply of kitty kibble... Smart cat, but she still hasn't figured out weekends.
Laundry's in the dryer and second load is whooshing in the washer, adding to my usual domestic bliss cocoon of sound. Ambitions for the day are... nonexistent. Possibly going to Walmart, but that will be around noon because Corey wants to go, and bless his heart, getting him out of the house before noon isn't even worth trying. For the moment, Egg is curled up in my lap, being zen kitty. Her tail has finally stopped twitching, so all's right with her world.
Kinda tired of the heat, but then so is pretty much everyone I know. There's no relief in sight, though:
Stay as cool as you can, my dears.
Love,
Lisa in AR
