Hi all. Weekly grocery shopping done and have been working in the garden.
I’m starting to plan what to take to Oxford the week after next. We are taking the overnight ferry to England and staying for 6 days. We won’t have room for much luggage as there are 5 of us travelling. Daughter and I need something semi dressy for the grad ceremony.
Youngest grandson is going to Liverpool Uni next year, so we are planning to have a look on our way through. We have a few other outing planned for the holiday.
This will be our first break away with the family since before Covid. 🤞🏻 it goes okay.
🥳🎉 Cheers to all those celebrating. Have a great time.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them. May you find peace.

We have had a tough time for awhile. DH had a major heart attack. He is now in a nursing facility. DD & her husband are caravanning via our RV and car to their home in Illinois. I will travel with them and move into our RV when we arrive.
DH will fly to Illinois soon after we get there. Our niece will take him to the Portland airport and he will fly to Illinois. We will meet him at the Chicago airport and go to DD’s property. Our RV will become our temporary home while a house they own will be made ready for us to live there.
We are keeping our home in Oregon. We love our home here. Friends here will monitor our home while we are away to make sure it is okay.
That is the plan & I hope it works well.

Heather--Sounds like you did the Bea pickup in style.
Kim--What kind of store would let people try on stuff in isle, have no dressing rooms or return policy! I would never go back to that store.
Terri--Pray all goes well with you trip. Sounds like fun.
Katla--Sounds like a good plan and so happy that you will be with DD and that DH will be joining you soon. Good Luck and take care of yourself.
Going to be a long day as working later and have yearly reviews to work on. I hate them as you can not be personal and I have a couple staff members that go above and beyond to help. Then I have one that is turning out to be a real problem.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE6 -
Katla ~ I will be praying for you and your husband and family as you make this move! I am glad to hear that a positive plan has been made and wish you all well!
I have been struggling with a few additional pounds for a couple of weeks and the scale finally moved the other way this AM. I am walking circles in my home with hand weights and just hope I can keep it up.
Carol in GA6 -
Katla- sounds like a sound plan and you will be close to your children for the time being. Your home in Oregon sounds beautiful and glad you are keeping it for now..0
-
Katla - Sending many good wishes for your plans for the future. It will be a comfort to have your daughter near. ❤️
Terri - Have a great time in Oxford. DH is a graduate from there. A very long time ago!
I went out to get a few things from the butcher before it got hot this morning. Poached a chicken in the IP . We will have it cold with new potatoes and a cauliflower/broccoli mix with a dip. I forgot DH'S lettuce for his cricket rolls, so went out again. It's all extra calorie burn.
I am still in semi hibernation mode. Ever since the end of the cruise I've been guarding my energy. The heat affects me badly and there is still a bit of post covid fatigue. Plus it always takes me ages to come out of holiday mode. It took over a week for my brain to stop thinking I was still on the ship at night. That's gone now but I am in limbo. I haven't started logging calories again and I have been eating far too much for my reduced activity level. I can feel I have put on weight since the cruise ended and my activity levels dropped with covid and the heat. We don't have air conditioning in our homes. V hot at night.
I know I will recover my energy, but it's been going on a bit too long. I want to get my book published, but I'm stalling.
I keep telling myself that I will revive, and to trust that. These hot spells always feel to me as if time has stopped and we are in pause mode.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxx7 -

Dear friend, just know you are acclimating to whatever lies ahead, in a way that works for you and husband and family. I notice the care and concern but great relief as your kids are helping and adjusting as need be. Know we are a click away! Big hugs!

Hi Gals,
Machka – I love thrift or second hand stores - so here leggings are worn as pants, and show more than I am ok with for me, and I don’t want to wear a skirt over them, I really want a casual look – so jeans and a top are more my style - I was hoping for a jean style pant out of lighter weight material. I am only 5 feet tall and still pudgier than I want to be, so want clothes to help me look taller and thinner not shorter and heavier… I am completely uncomfortable in any sort of snug top under an over shirt – I don’t find it physically comfortable and then it is one more layer of warmth (not needed) and one more thing to own/clean/pay for. My personal dress style is much more simple 1960’s hippy/Bohemian (less fringe/lace or beads) but even that is not quite right. That is part of my challenge I know what I like when I see it but it is hard for me to put it into words.
None of my local thrift stores allow you to try on, and I have a hard time picking out pants that fit… I have 3 pair of jeans now and they are in 3 different sizes. And my summer grey pants are yet a different size and are actually capri’s that are so long I wear them with a 1 inch heel and they are perfect as long pants. LOL
Carol – I have not done much online clothes shopping but did a bit of looking yesterday, found a cute shirt on Amazon but then read the reviews and there were tons of reviews that returns were impossible… how do you find the return process?
Katla – best wishes with the traveling, it sounds like your kids are setting everything up to go as smoothly as it can. It will be nice to be near your kids and grandkids; The RV is a perfect way to bridge the time.
Sending love to all.

For all of us individuals! Lol. We are who we are so don’t try to be anything else!
Katla, great idea! Being near family during the healing process but not in the same house sounds perfect.
RvRita3 -
Kim ~ I didn't realize you were so short! I am 5'1" so know what you mean about getting pants that aren't a foot too long. The biggest problem I have had with Amazon returns is that some stores make you mail the item back to their company instead of just taking them to the Amazon kiosk at UPS or Kohls. I must admit that with my strange figure, finding tops and bottoms that look OK is not easy. Some have ended up in the trash.

Katla,
This is a very difficult time for you. I'm so sorry.
I have to say, your adult children sound extremely caring & competent, and I'm really glad they will help you through this.
Taking the RV to Illinois sounds like a great temporary solution - you'll be near your family, but able to maintain your privacy.
Safe travels, and healing thoughts for your husband.

Worked and while I was taking Jerry home Vince called to say that the guy who I buy his corn on the cob (it’s soooooo good) from will meet me at 11. So I took Jerry home and got the corn. Went to the gym and had every intention of going but Vince called, I could tell he was upset. Lexi’s blood work came in and she’s in end stage renal failure. Vince was quite upset so I went to the Salvation Army to make the donation then he asked me to stop at Food Lion to get baby food for Lexi (she ate some at the vet’s yesterday). Then had a teleconference with our financial advisor afterwards went to WalMart. But they didn’t have any rotisserie chicken (well, the only one they had was lemon pepper and I didn’t know how peppery it was) so went to Sams. They didn’t have any either. So back to Food Lion where I was able to get a chicken.
Made the chicken casserole, now will bake it. Think we’ll have to shuck the corn tonight so probably no walk.
Carla – so sorry for Anne
Rebecca – we love you dearly...quirks and all!
I was just in the kitchen and I heard this “help me”. Seems that Vince fell. I think it’s more because he was power washing and the heat gets to him so he wasn’t feeling well. He’s laying down right now. I think he’ll be fine.
Had a long power failure which is why I didn’t post last night.
Worked today and when I came home Vince said that during the night Lexi went downstairs, laid in the home theater seating, and pooped and peed in it. She was laying in it. She just can't get up to get to the litter box. I guess the saving grace is that she has dementia and has no idea what she's doing. If she did, she'd probably be horrified.
Lexi has ESRF. She’s REALLY going downhill. We have an appointment at 4:45 to put her down. We are going to have the pool party on the 21st instead. Vince fell yesterday and hurt his rib so by then it should be somewhat healed. Not going to bowling (no biggie for me) since we didn’t know what time we needed to take Lexi. It’s sad, but her quality of life has really deteriorated and we know it won’t get better.
Had to finish cooking the corn since the power went out while I was cooking it
Jess left last night for Raleigh. I’m pretty sure she’ll be back Friday
M – as you know, I like to shop thrift stores, too. One bad thing is that afterwards when you go to a store you say “there’s no way I’ll pay $14.99 for a blouse when I can get it at the Salvation Army for $3.99”. But you never know what you’ll find. The good thing is that if after you get home you decide you don't like the blouse or whatever, you don't feel bad redonating it.
katla – I hope things work out well for you
Kim – fortunately, all of the thrift stores around here let you try on clothes. There was one thrift store in FL that for a time right after Covid they didn’t let you try on. So I didn’t buy from them. However, last time I was there they let you try on things

Michele Sorry that Vince fell. Hope he is okay. And so sorry to hear about Lexi. Sending comfort to all of you.
Katla Comfort and hugs to you too. Sounds like big changes, but you will do well. So glad you have family to help.
I am frustrated with Amazon. I waited for their big sale to buy my Dad a new tablet, and now they are sold out of the one I want. And the price never went down! Not a big problem in the overall view, just frustrating.

Kim, Carol and other frustrated clothing shoppers:
I go armed with a tape measure. First, I lay out a pair of my own pants that fit perfectly out flat on the bed.
Then I measure the waist, the inseam, crotch to waist and the largest part of the bootie. And record those measurements.
At the store, I take the tape and notes with me. If I see some pants I like, I take them off the hanger, drape them over the display as best I can, then start measuring.
Sometimes it doesn't work, but generally does.
Since I'm so long waisted, I also know the length I need on shirts and tops that will come down far enough to cover my tush appropriately. Out comes the tape again.
Since DH had a lot of brand new sweatpants that fit me perfectly, that's my fashion statement.

Lanette – I always carry a tape measure with me. Yes, it’s not the greatest, but it still works
You know, it was interesting. When I heard Vince say "help me" I couldn't help the feeling I got of how frail we have become. And seeing Lexi like she is reminds me so much of MIL, FIL and my father.

Michele ~ I am sorry for the sorrow y'all must go through on losing Lexie, but, I am so glad that you and Vince are going to allow Lexie to move on. Every time I remember how my pom looked on the day we had to put him down I want to cry. We could see that he was suffering. It was such a hard thing for us to do.

All I wear are leggings- summer time the are capri length, in the winter they are long and thicker(some are like flannel but stretchy and others are more like valour.
I am all about comfort. I can't remember the last time I wore jeans- I think it was at least 5 yrs ago. I can't stand any pressure at all on my stomach like from regular pants. Leggings can't be too tight for the same reason.
I love shopping at thrift stores. We have our favorite one- it is huge and great prices.
For me, it is all about the feel- if the fabric isn't super soft, I don't care how cute or cheap it is, not going to buy it.
Because of that, I rarely buy any clothes online. I have bought a few zumba tank tops but otherwise I don't buy online.
I really need to clear out my closet again- have a bag started- Tons of clothes and I rarely wear 80% of them.2 -

I see my counselor for an hour each week, and often come with a list of things that are driving me crazy, she is great and often just guides the conversation to the point that I am finding my own answers... at one point today I just stopped and said NO, you are the shrink, you tell me which of these will be the most helpful for me. We looked at each other and just started cracking up! I have been seeing her off and on for 20 years, and I do not think of her as a shrink- nor have ever told her how to do her job and I told her that, but this time I could see the pros and cons of either choice and just needed to have her help me guess which would be better long term. It was a fun moment, but reminded me how much I need and am grateful for her in my life. Yes I pay (well the insurance company pays) for my support system but because I pay I don't have to worry about rumors or stories. Friends and family is great, but she is my only support person who hears the full me. With whom I do not filter....I am so grateful.

Michele: So sorry about Lexi.We have them for such a short time. You are doing the best thing for her comfort. Hope Vince hasn’t hurt himself badly in that fall.
Rita: Weird? Moi? I prefer to think of myself as eccentric 😝
Katla: Sounds like you have a workable interim plan of action.
Kim: I I’m another shortie (5’2”) and I wear smart/casual, lightweight jersey trousers, and comfortable tunics which cover my derrière, (which is the most stubborn to get rid of). I like a bit of bling on my tunics. Not a fan of jeans as I have yet to find a pair which fit me comfortably. 🥰thrift stores. Sometimes you find gold in them thar bins!
Heather: I have mixed feelings about my upcoming trip, but I expect things will work out fine. I hope you continue to recover from the dreaded Covid!
I’ve been trimming hedges this afternoon so am knackered, (but happy 😝) I’m almost falling asleep, so will get to bed.
🥳🎉 Cheers to all those celebrating. Enjoy whatever comes to you.

I am a jeans and tee shirt person, although lately I wear soft knit pants if I am about to work out, which is daily. I like the Eddie Bauer long tee shirts, but many of mine are getting ragged. I wear them around the house anyway.

Well, Lexi is over the rainbow bridge and probably playing with Bonnie, Clyde, and others. To be honest, I thought it would be harder on Vince. I think I’ve sort-of prepared myself. Of course, you can never fully prepare yourself. But this was the first time she lost control of her bladder. She was walking from the kitchen into the bedroom and you could see the trail of pee. She was laying on the DVD player (one of her favorite places probably because of the vibration and also for the warmth) and she pooped on it. As I was cleaning it up, I found that she also peed and it ran down to the dresser.
Like I said, the saving grace is that she probably isn’t even aware of what she’s doing.
Michele NC9 -
Thanks for the suggestion of the tape measure... As a seamstress I should have thought of it LOL but I guess I have been so dependent on the changing room I had not thought of it. I ended up with jeans as my go to, because other pants fit so poorly, and gardening in lighter weight pants did not give me enough protection for all the shrubs/thorns/etc. It may be time for a complete re-think. I can't imagine going to skirts though. it will be some form of pants.
