Debbie, I just don't know how you and DH do it. God Bless you both.
Rebecca, I just had to SNORT at your "military wife" comment bc we MoMs had a friend who was a Mom and an Army wife and not just any Army wife, but a LtCol wife. Well she was on FB all the time, knocking down "a particular" President and spoutin' off and she used her real name. We kept thinking, "doesn't this bother Johnny and doesn't have some affect on his career?" But she kept on. Then one day, her name changes to her maiden name. Apparently, someone in some "higher place" saw something and yeah... You can have your opinion, but when you're attached to the military, you keep it to yourself or you support the military and the government. PERIOD. We have a GREAT group of MoMs in MN and we watch each other's backs like that too.
Hunter has a bd party today and Caddie is just hanging around the house with the guard-chug for company. Ah, the life of grandparenting.

Lisa in AR do you have humidity with that heat? Our highs for this week are 102-105 degrees but the humidity is only at 26% or less. Still 🥵 to 🥵 hot!
Talked and worked with a financial company to fix my finances. Going to be a bi relief!! One more stress gone!
Still feel like I have a cold or something. The ENT did say I would feel like a sinus infection so hoping that’s all it is. No fever so that’s good. Might do a CoVid test just to be sure.
Have ENT followup this week and a psych appointment this coming week.

Good morning ladies!
Leslie - sounds like you and your DH had a nice little getaway. Cute photo of you two! Beautiful area!
Heather - nice looking shoes. So glad to hear you are out again taking your runs. Tim Spector also helped to change my outlook on calories and nutrition. So many things are coming together for those of us in our 60's and older, focusing on health more than what the scale says. I'm thinking of sticking our scale out in the garage.
Carla - I think as time goes on, more folks are thinking twice about political posts whether they are military spouses or not. I don't mind reading FB posts from all sides of the political spectrum, but if they are based on pure emotion instead of verifiable facts: "rants" - I unfollow those folks pretty quickly. In the same vein, we used to like to watch Johnny Carson and Jay Leno - they let everyone in office "have it", lol. It was funny and enjoyable then.
Carol - good job getting the new modem set up! Since my DH was the computer/techie whiz, I feel kind of lost dealing with this type of stuff. Very thankful for YouTube videos and instruction manuals!
Lisa - I was going to ask you when Corey was getting back = he's back! Barbie is right, the lows in your area are considered "too hot" for us. Last year we did hit 106 a couple days in June, but it didn't last more than several days then settled down into more normal weather.
Estate cleanup stuff:I remembered yesterday that I hadn't notified the State of WA Dept. of Retirement that DH had passed. I had been getting a reduced benefit because we were on a plan that if I passed first, he'd be eligible for 50% of my retirement. With him gone, it will go back up to full benefit. I called DOR yesterday to let them know, they said they already had been notified by DOH (???) but I needed to talk to the "death" department to get more info, lol. After calling that number twice and being on hold 20 minutes each time, I finally sent an email.
And I also remembered I hadn't checked my credit report in a couple years, did that, all OK. Putting in credit freezes. I need to call the 3 credit agencies though and let them know DH has passed if they don't know already. Not sure if things can go haywire since WA is a community property state, but will check.
Lunch and hug:Yesterday I met a former co-worker for lunch. He is retiring soon, then he and his wife are moving back to the Midwest where they were originally from. He was one of my favorite "guys". After lunch I got a wonderful hug. He's the same height and weight my DH was ten years ago. It was nice but a little poignant .....the last year of his life, DH had become so fragile it was like hugging a little boy.
So now I have my radar up to see what guys I know will be good for hugs who won't think I'm harassing them!
Better get back to my tasks. I upped the garbage pickup to once a week instead of every other - I don't have to look far in DH's shop to find outdated computer CD's, worn out coveralls, just plain junk. Garbage can is filling up fast!
Make it a fabulous weekend! Hug everyone you love or can get away with

Lanette - Touch is such an important part of human survival, and there are a number of studies that prove this very clearly. Finding a masseuse might be a really good idea. Might keep you from jumping some good-looking feller, too.3

Rita - the humidity stays around 40% or higher in the days and 55 to 60 at night. Makes it hard to draw breath outside, and in very short order. I bless Willis H. Carrier's invention of air conditioning every day, and simply stay inside most of the time.
Big kudos on the financial fixes! I remember that feeling, and it stays with you.
Love,

Civilians that have never lived in the military mindset just don't get it. The phrase goes if sailors or soldiers were supposed to be married with a wife, the military would've issued one in their ditty bag.🙃😂. We really are dependents in every sense of the word. From meeting wives on a ship then seeing them in the commissary and suddenly we're "invisible" to them, to wives disappearing when they're creating trouble (shipped stateside). I take my rank of Navy wife seriously, and try to create an image that's complimentary to my husband.
Hugs

Worked today. Called about an oil change and I was shocked they said to just come in. While the car was being worked on I went to Habitat for Humanity – didn’t get anything. Then to Aldi (which is next door) for only a few things. Going to go to the store with Colby and maybe Jess to get enchiladas for dinner. I’ll eat them, Jess will and I’ll give Vince a pork roast that we have. Jess and Colby are in the pool right now so after they get out we’ll probably go to the store
No work tomorrow so that means I get to exercise. YEEEAAAAA. The plan is to do some of the Biggest Loser the Workout DVD and then some yoga.
Viv – sure hope Maggie is OK and it’s just the heat. Do you have a/c? I know my friend in Switzerland doesn’t have it.
Barbara – I think only twice have I found petite pants in a thrift store. I usually can get by with regular shirts (not petite) but not pants. I look at it as a blessing-in-disguise. Less I spend!
I take my measurements and my tape measure with me to the store, but I still want to try on the clothing. Sometimes the material is just a bit too stretchy.
We had to postpone the pool party but Vince forgot to tell friends of his so they came. Jess, Colby and I went and got chicken enchiladas. Thank goodness I got two boxes so I made some for them along with corn on the cob we had and sourdough bread I had. So it all worked out. Hopefully, they’ll come back next weekend.

Lanette - We have a small cabin on our property that we rent to traveling medical personnel. They usually have a 90-100 day rotation. They have backround checks through both the state and hospital. We use a service called Furnished Finder that specializes in housing for traveling medical personnel. So far we have had nurses but have had inquiries from radiology tech and a PT. We currently have an ICU nurse here and recently had a nurse anesthetist. There is a charge for Furnished Finder to list your property.
Michelle - so sorry about the kitty. Have fun with Jess and Colby. Hope DH is better soon.

Lanette-good luck with the purging of stuffs. I removed the majority of DH's things fairly quickly (clothes, etc.). I know others touch nothing for years. I passed on some of the tools to youngest son Friday. Gave him a hammer and he said "we have one." I said -"that one was dad's." and he said "I need that." While I won't be leaving children a lot, youngest son (since he lives closest) will get quite a bit in tools. The hugs are the hardest thing to replace.
Rebecca-I understand you about military and their spouses. I have never been one, but my oldest brother retired as a naval captain. His wife had the officer's wife role down to perfection.
Heather-nice shoes. I have a pair of Brooks Ghost and love them for walking. My orthotics fit them nicely.
My orthotics are in for a retread. At recent check up, podiatrist said that she wants them with extra layer-she said I am putting more miles on them than most of her patients and she wants them to last! It is awkward not using them, but I am stretching out well and making it work.
Random heath update:Had ct scans Friday (neck, chest, pelvis/abdomen). Pelvis/ab results are in. Maybe a exceedingly small watch are on liver (or it could turn out to not be there next test). Interestingly, radiologist made note that my uterus was not visible, possibly surgically removed. I hasn't been-it's still there somewhere, but I think that reflects degrees of prolapse. PT involves variations of kegels and biofeedback on muscle contractions (they have devices for everything). Making small steps forward, but a long way to go. I recommend the physical therapy (once you get over some awkwardness).
Weather here is to be cooler and rainy today. Thunder and rain right now. Will keep an eye on radar and hopefully can fit in a walk during a non-thunder/lightening period. I enjoy walking in a light rain. Other than that-laundry and putting together some things in basement for trash (wood from old bar).
Enjoy Sunday. Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

I've just bought some Reeboks for my gym sessions. They are much less than half the price of my Brooks running shoes! All leather, white, and very classic. DH has the same ones. I only need them for the machines and the straps will mark them, I know. So don't need anything pricey. Amazon, and easy free returns.
My old ones are a disgrace and depress me every time I put them on! I bought them from M&S years ago and have only worn them on the machines in our spare room.
Feeling good today. I have the fan running as I lie on my bed. I managed a short gym session and a decent floor and weights this morning before it gets hot later. I've also been catching up on my German and Norwegian, which I did not feel like doing when I was in covid mode. I couldn't work up any enthusiasm for anything!
A large part of England is preparing for a red alert heat warning in the next two days. It won't be as bad here as London. But I'm sure we will feel it. Very few houses have AC. I love my fans, but hot air is hot air.
I have a Waitrose delivery scheduled for 7-8 am tomorrow. Before the worst heat.
I'm enjoying the freedom of not tracking and logging. Somehow it has boosted my mood. I have also cut down on my exercise regime as it was beginning to feel like a chore. Now I'm enjoying it again. When I feel good I behave better. Feeling low makes me sluggish and I binge and drink. I'm prioritising my mood.
Lots of love to everyone. Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -

Good morning/afternoon all! Happy Sunday!
We made it through the field trip on Wednesday! Everything that we wanted to do was within a half mile radius. So, we walked a mile long "out and back" type of walk, with stops at the farmer's market, the ice cream shop, the splash pad, the playground and picnic area. DH was able to stop and rest at each spot. I have a sweet picture of he and Peyton. The girl is glued to him whenever he is around. Got home and the kids and DH all napped well.
Lanette- Hugs are wonderful!
Rebecca, Lisa, Carla- Your discussion about civilians not understanding/military wife life really made me think about how the majority of young people believe that everybody has a right to voice their opinion and not fear loss of job/income whatever. (I think social media has taken opinion stating to a whole new level) but I can also hear my grandmother telling me, "...even animals know that you don't s**t where you sleep/eat!" lol Hats off to all of you military families.
Heather- I am an overpronator, as well; I am also a fan of Brooks and Asics. I have always bought running shoes; but I am about to buy my first pair of walking shoes. I find I am still digging my heels in, not wanting to buy them, because they don't seem to make them as "snazzy" as running shoes. I like my flash.
Like Beth, I am one of the taller ones, at 5'8". When I was a size 12 jean, I weighed 200 lbs. Because of my body type, the weight distributed itself everywhere, and pretty evenly. So...it snuck up on me. I am need to lose 100 lbs to get down to my goal weight. About four weeks ago, I went back to a high protein and veg meal plan. I had two weeks of really good choices and the scale showed it with an 8 pound loss. The past couple of weeks have been hit or miss with my meal choices and exercise. Holiday foods, alcohol, and higher temps and humidity have pushed me into the "not very good choice" zone. BUT...I haven't gained anything back; I have just stalled. So time to imagine Pip's boot on my backside and climb back on the wagon.
Yesterday, we drove an hour and a half north to a children's museum to attend one of my childcare kiddo's birthday parties. It was a nice day for a drive and the museum was in a beach town that we hadn't been to since our own kids were very small. It was a good party, only a couple of hours, with no "agenda" except to eat a "brunch" of breakfast casserole, fruit, cupcakes and to play at the museum. Five of my childcare families made the drive. It was a fun day. We did the grocery shopping on the way home; which reminded me why I never take my husband shopping with me.
Today is pretty easy. A little paperwork, cleaning, cooking and that is all. It is close to lunchtime, so I better grab a bite and get busy. Hugs to all who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Ya got that right, Lanette!!! OMGosh, I used to LOVE Carson and Leno, even Fallon when he first got on. Now... no one is worth watching! I'm such a HUGGY person too and unfortunately my husband just is NOT! I get my fix from my MoMs and some of my coworkers.
OH MAN, Lisa, 40% humidity! I'd LIVE for that. Humidity in MN "sucks"!!! The minute it gets over 70% I melt, but anything under 60 is fine.
I remember that line, Rebecca. It was in our MoMs manual too. That's why we just didn't "get" this particular wife! smh.
Kelly, you're so right. I remember my gram saying that exact thing! And I think CV made it even worse bc we/they were all stuck inside and there were no ramifications to their actions/online speech (that they could see) for so long. Looks like you're having fun!
Btw, thanks for the thanks.
If anyone wants to be FB friends with me, I'm Carla Letch Cooper, but I am very conservative and I post A LOT (but I'm also restricted quite a bit... LOL) so you can scroll on by. I don't push anything on anyone. Just post to share info. I don't rant. I research. I also post a bunch of touchy-feely and inspiration, daily scripture and family stuff. Just let me know, via PM, that you're from MFP, bc I don't accept random FB friendships. Love y'all!

I have been reading along but not taking notes.
Like a lot of you we finally had some hot weather. It didn’t last long and today is rainy and damp again.
I had my Grandson and his friend here for the weekend. They arrived on Friday and are going home today. They are 10 and I’ve truly enjoyed having them.
We went to see Lightyear yesterday afternoon and came home and set a tent up in the yard and they slept there. Their plan was to stay up all night, apparently they lasted until 12 and 1am.
It will be very quiet this evening.
Ginny - I had to comment on the tools. When my Grandfather passed in 1974, two of my uncles didn’t speak for 20 years because of a fight over tools. It was ridiculous.
Hugs - I am a big hugger. My husband gives the best and lets me settle in if I need it. He is a keeper.
Social Media - I don’t share anything on my FB that could be controversial. I share happiness, kindness, gratitude posts and mostly things that are going on in my life. I was raised not to discuss religion, politics and money in public so I don’t.
I’m very much a live and let live type of person.
Waiting for one set of parents to arrive to pick up my Grandson’s friend. I will drive Grandson home.
I may see if you hear daughter is up for a visit this afternoon. I haven’t decided yet.
