We opened windows, and drew the curtains as the sun moved round the house and it worked well. Temp indoors was around 23*C most of the day, and we stayed well hydrated. Northern Ireland isn’t getting the really high temps as we are further north and west of the really extreme heat.

I got my menu figured out with my sister: fish then spaghetti then ham. She is going to cook the fish as I lack the proper attention span. Nothing fancy and lots of veggies and fruit alongside. This may actually not be as terrible as I thought. At least as far as food goes. I just hate entertaining.

Carla the gardens are from the South Washington Garden Tour that was on Saturday. The last home was an created by an architect his home was gorgeous as was his gardens. He had a collection of birdhouses. We never put a water pond into our yard. At this point I am glad because it is another part of the garden you have to maintain in fall and spring. The one with the flying pig was the farm house in the background. There was another home on the property and the gardens there were spectacular too.

Worked. Went in the pool, Colby left so I went to ceramics. They’re closed next week because the gal who runs it is going on vacation so I think what I’ll do is Wed. I’ll go there and pick up the snail I’m working on and work on it at home since I have the paint.
Barbara – hope your husband has a great time at CCC. He deserves it. Vince says he seems to be doing a BIT better. It’s still hurting tho
pip – hope the phone is all you hope it to be
barbie – be sure to let us know about your eyes
I convinced Vince to cut the grass Wed. so I would have an excuse not to go to bowling. Isn’t that sad? Well, he can’t run the tractor so he is actually going to let me do it. Miracle. Then I’ll get to hear all about what I did wrong. So I have to run not only the tractor but also the walk behind.
Our new rug for the sunroom came today. We threw out the old one. Colby helped put it down.
I’m so sorry all you people are dealing with such heat, especially if you’re not used to it
katla – happy birthday. So glad you got to talk to your hubby. Pretty soon you’ll be together, pretty soon
Better go to bed with Shadow.

Happy Birthday, Katla. So glad the trip is over and you are safe. I can feel your sadness in your posts. Sending prayers for peace and comfort for you and dh.
It is impossible to tell you how hot it is. We are basically stuck in the house after 10 am. At 8 pm tonight it was 109 with a feel like temp of 112. You can’t breathe outside. Thank goodness for my water aerobics class.
Stay hydrated.
SueBDew onTX6 -
Heather and Viv - hope your heat only lasts two days. We had a really hot day here on Friday. I relished it though as it’s been so cold and wet all Spring I couldn’t complain about the heat when we finally got it.
I think I could survive fairly easily without my phone except it’s my only form of actual phone communication. I do know both my husbands, daughters and a couple friends numbers. I try to actually push the buttons once in a while to keep them in my mind.
This weekend I put a lot of my rewards cards in my phone wallet. I want to carry a smaller purse and needed some room.
I have never had AC and truthfully wouldn’t want it. I figure the week or two of “unbearable” heat we get each year is manageable.
Lisa - my hubby watches Westworld. He watches in the other room to save me. Lol
Katla - that must have been hard to leave your husband. How soon before he will be joining you?
Happy Birthday to you.
Terri - 23 Celsius is the mandatory temp in the nursing home. You were spot on.
Annie - it’s good your sister is going to cook too. I thought she would anyway, it’s your parents house you shouldn’t be required to entertain or cater to her, she should be comfortable doing it and giving you a break.
Michele - when my daughters friend came to pick her son up yesterday he and my Grandson asked if they could continue the sleepover at their house. She told him no. He asked why. His Dad said the answer was no and the reason doesn’t matter. I think we should all be able to say that to things we don’t want to do.
Has a miserable day at work again. I don’t know what we’re going to do about our boss.
I was angry and didn’t have anywhere to put it when I got home so I went and cleaned my car like it hasn’t been cleaned in a couple years. If tomorrow is the same I’ll do the house tomorrow night.
I am taking Friday off, our youngest and her friend are going to the large fair here in the city and they asked if I would want to come be the baby smuggler so they could ride some rides together. Of course I said yes. The baby is 3.5 months and just now grinning and being alert. I love this stage.

It's nearly 80°F here at 7.30 am. The temp at 3.15 am was 78°F.
I did sleep. My fan was blowing gently on me all night. DH slept in the sauna that is our bedroom (none of the windows open and he is too mean to change them), but he said he slept OK. There is a fan in there that I have been using in the daytime, (I spend most of my time/life lying on the bed), but he is not a fan.
The heatwave will break down here tonight.
His younger daughter is flying back from south west France today, where his elder daughter lives. The temps there have been 107 + with forest fires and no AC. No pool.
So, a quiet day for me. DH is picking up Bea. There is no point in me even trying. I'm sure he won't do my Uber trick. Not that he has got the app on his phone. He could order a local taxi. Maybe I can persuade him. The walk is horrible along a busy, main road with no shade. Death Valley.
Love you all, Heather, surviving in Hove UK, xxxxxxxx5 -
It's a miracle! DH thought my suggestion of a taxi was a good one. I've ordered one from a local firm for 2.45. It will drop him off at the park, where there is lots of tree shade. Last week I had an ice cream on the café terrace.
They can stay in the park for a while. By the time they walk back to Bea's house I think the temps will be a bit better. His walk home is a much nicer route.
I have already prepared the dinner. At 8 am. I've poached salmon, and I've parboiled Romanescu. That will go in a grain and wild rice salad with other bits, cuc, toms etc. Olive oil dressing. And a nice raita to go with it. Will make that at lunchtime.
Lunch is last night's delicious frittata with tomato salad. Grain bread.
I slept with no pain killers last night. I'm hoping it's the improved nutrition and no alcohol. I had a kombucha last night. Plus a shot of kefir. I hope my microbiome is grateful.
Love to all, Heather, thankful in Hove xxxxxxxx

Would have been my BFF’s birthday Sunday. eMailed her daughter, got text from her sister. We all miss her.
Heather, Terri, Viv, Kate and all in the UK, saw London at 101F on the weather channel this morning. Likewise Lisa, Rita, Suebdew and all in the triple digit/record-breaking heat. Hoping you all get relief soon!
Heather thanks for the Spotify Chatterjee Feel better…/#291 Spector “latest science on gut health…” recommendations. I’m midway through reading Spector’s “Diet Myth” book. I’d be lucky to get in 30 different vegetables in a week
Barbie “…too hot to work in the yard” us too
Lanette : … Hug everyone you love or can get away with” Amen to this. One of the worst things about the plague was the 2 year hugging hiatus.
Lisa thanks for this link: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/everyone-top/202108/the-vital-importance-human-touch massage therapy, weighted blankets, zen pets, all help.
Lanette good question. I’ll ask my PT tomorrow (his last day boo hoo!)
Sue in WA thanks for the Furnished Finder recommendation.
Michele nor can I ever find petites in thrift stores, but they must have them sometimes, since I donate some from time to time
Ginny “biofeedback on muscle contractions (they have devices for everything)” Bravissima for steps forward.
Allie so glad to hear Carmine liked the sweatshirt. First positive response in awhile.
KJ count me in on the never take DH grocery shopping with me camp. Incompatible shopping styles.
Carla neither is Joe huggy, By dint of repetition he’s become accepting of good morning and farewell kisses, possibly because Tumble is so kissy
Tracey glad Rodger is a hugger. Was reared likewise about public discussions of religion and money, but Mama was a dyed in the wool Democrat with no filter…
Just through pg 36 but getting “snacky” so will turn in for a little more sleep instead.

Happy Tuesday all!
Katla- Happy birthday! I am glad you made it safely to your daughter's place. My heart is with you as you are missing your dear DH!
Heather- I love hearing of your meals. They all sound like things that I would eat/fix for myself. DH is a very meat and potatoes kind of guy. If it is full of veg, or meat alternative (egg, bean, soy) he probably will not eat it. He is a poop, sometimes. lol Good idea on the taxi one way for DH.
Allie- IF you struggle through the day with your athsma; don't go to the outdoor concert! You will not enjoy it if you are struggling to breathe, I am sure your friends won't either. Take care of your self!
Suebdew- Ugh! The Texas heat! Stay cool friend!
Rita- Have you tried making a "cooler A/C"? I have a friend who took a large styrofoam cooler, removed the lid, put a 2-3" hole in one side, at or near the top, for air intake. She then filled the cooler with ice up to the 2-3" hole, placed a box fan on the cooler with the back of the fan to the cooler; then turned the fan on. It pulls the cooled air out of the cooler and blows it into the room. She does this in her bedroom during the hottest part of the day or right before bed, to help her sleep better. It costs a few dollars a day (for ice), but it has helped her tremendously on those really hot days.
Machka- Hope you are well! Maybe just busy with the new job? SEnding you lots of hugs!
The kids and I had a nice day, yesterday. We walked to the beach, stopped at the playground for a while to play, and then found a patch of blackberries on the way home! Yummm! We are full on into blueberry season, around here, and the majority of my families head out to the U-pick farms and pick quarts and quarts of them. So my kiddos are eating a LOT of blueberries. Let me tell you; the diapers have been never ending! Today, I have two little girls coming back after a four day weekend/potty boot camp with mamas. Fingers crossed they are ready to potty train, here. So, pretty sure the next few days will be spent close to the bathroom. If they get this, that is 10 less diapers a day for me to change!
Well, time to get busy. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -

Katla - Happy belated birthday, hugs going out to you and your husband.
Margaret – Thank you for the pics of the garden tour! The heat and drought here is killing off anything that's green, and we still have weeks to go. Your pictures were a lovely thing to see.
All our UK and Ireland friends: Be safe out there. Cannot believe y'all are having 100-degree weather. I'm just staying inside.
My sleep was just wrecked last night, pretty sure I spent more time in the bathroom than I did in bed. Woke up feeling like Stretch Armstrong at full stretch. Here's a jump in the WABAC Machine for you:
There are worse things.
Tracey - Your husband is doing a good thing saving you from West World. It’s… disturbing. I’m so sorry that the boss is hard to work for. Before I ever jumped into this thread, I was living in Coos Bay, Oregon. I worked from home for a multi-billion-dollar technology firm. I would get off the phone with my boss and literally go into hysterics, just melt into the floor screaming and crying. She was the most passive aggressive, critical, horrible person I've met before or since. She threatened my job on almost a daily basis, and in general broke my spirit with the tools at her disposal. Luckily, I was let go in the next layoff, and the financial package they gave me was bumped up by the fact that I was in a protected class. I had to sign something saying I'd never sue them in order to get the bonus. It helped me finish paying for my student loan. I wouldn't have sued them anyway.
Anyway, I think I'm going back to bed. The Fitbit says I got just a little over three hours sleep, and I'm feeling it.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Happy Birthday, sweet Katla! I'm so sorry you can't be with your hubby, but glad you got to talk to him.
AH! Gotcha Margaret. Beautiful, nonetheless. I'm so jealous of people who have those amazing green thumbs. My mom was one. I used to love helping her in her gardens. She never put in a water feature though. Of course, later in life, she lived at the lake so she didn't have to. We visited an Iris Garden somewhere near Scandia years ago. It was absolutely magnificent! Wonder if it's still there?
Well, the grands have gone home and the house is way too quiet. You know the feeling? But I have to work anyway, so that helps. Have a wonderful Tuesday all! Love ya!

Katla - Happy belated birthday and hugs for you and your husband.
Heather - I have borderline hemochromatosis and very likely mild Sjogren's syndrome. My doctor agrees but tells me there's nothing that can be done.
Beth - I'm 5'6, long legs and very short torso. It is a challenge. Pants are never long enough.
"Working on how to hide a really dumb spot in the front yard where the septic tank sits... it's too high (and can't be lowered) and every summer the grass dies over top of it in a perfect rectangle. I'm considering reshaping the front landscaping beds to incorporate the tank and then just cover with mulch."
Rock garden?
Pip - Sorry about your phone. I know what that's like! I felt so sick when I lost mine.
Debbie - I'm glad you're getting all that walking in. I need to increase my walking. I wonder how many steps 5 km is.
Rebecca - "Being a caregiver I never knew how my husband would be from day to day."
Yep. That's how it will be for the rest of our lives.
Kelly - "Because of my body type, the weight distributed itself everywhere, and pretty evenly. So...it snuck up on me."
Me too.
Tracey - "Social Media - I don’t share anything on my FB that could be controversial. I share happiness, kindness, gratitude posts and mostly things that are going on in my life. I was raised not to discuss religion, politics and money in public so I don’t. I’m very much a live and let live type of person."
Me too!!
You'd get a lot about cycling and brain injury on my FB ... and a lot of cat comics.
Military - thought about joining when I was in my early 30s and my first marriage had broken up. I may have been able to retire about now, but I'm glad I didn't join up.
Hugs - I am NOT a huggy person. I don't even like it if someone touches my shoulder or my arm. I have loved the last couple years ... at last random strangers have kept their hands off me. I don't know what it is but elderly ladies used to like to pat my arm and run their hands through my hair, and weird strangers would stand so close to me in lines they'd touch me. <<shudder>>
Weather - quite chilly and snowy here at higher elevations. Not that high either. There was snow down to 200 metres the other night.
Yeah, I'm around ... reading. But very busy.
Learning new job
First aid course
Son's hockey game
Cycling club planning meeting to get next season set up
Legal stuff
Medical appointments
Etc. etc.
Wasn't feeling brilliant yesterday. Very mild fever. RAT in the evening = negative. Maybe just tired.
