@SummerSkier I initially though acid and/or something I was eating, but there are no normal issues like sickness, just the terrible pain. Ulcer sounds possible, the ER doc said it could be helicobacter pylori, which funnily enough my MIL had not long ago.
@quilteryoyo the hearg thing was what scared me into moving and not just trying to sit it out, but the ecgs were both fine. My BP was up a bit, but they think that was just because it hurt so much. I tense up when things hurt. They also checked liver/kidney function markers and everything was normal.
After trying various routes I finally managed to get a slot to see a gp tomorrow, not mine, he's on holiday (of course) but hopefully this guy can order tests and get the ball rolling.
Also, I do not recommend 27 hours with no sleep followed by 24 hours in bed dozing on and off and no food as a post-long run recovery method. My legs are SORE and I can barely get up for 5 minutes without needing a rest today.7 -
@eleanorhawkins Fingers crossed for something simple like H pylori.
@SummerSkier Everytime I go out and it’s 100% humidity it makes me want to quit. I’m running and thinking this I stupid. I’m breathing under water. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that humidity is the poor man’s altitude. Not sure I buy it. With the amount of humidity I run in, I feel like I should be able to sprint at altitude. Spoiler alert - I can’t.
@tarun_yadavA I’m glad you are feeling better. Your idea of slowing down and mine aren’t even in the same ballpark. These are the Hansons training paces for someone who runs a 2 hr HM for example. You can see there is up to about 4 min/mile difference in the paces comparing an easy run and the VO2 max workouts.
I don’t know what your personal goals or targets are so by all means, ignore me if you’re not interested. I had a tough time letting go of my PR the day mentality and slowing down but it has made a huge difference in how training goes and how I feel. I found it hard to understand how going so much slower was going to make me faster, but it did. My runs just don’t look as speedy on strava. Link to the Hansons calculator if you want it.

@eleanorhawkins I know that pain must be really scary for you, and I hope they can figure out soon what is causing it.
@martaindale I feel you on the humidity! I didn't look at it before I ran this morning, but it had to be 90+% because it stormed overnight. 73 degrees doesn't feel so great when it is a warm wall of water.
I also 100% agree with you on the slowing down to train. I have some speed work each week, but most of my runs are easy, a couple of minutes slower per mile than what I would race.
The plan called for a 12 mile cutback for today. It stormed until after midnight last night, which meant I was up with my dogs, who were terrified. I decided to not set an alarm this morning and ended up not getting out to run until after 9:00. Fortunately it was overcast and in the 70s, but HUMID. My average pace was 12:34/mi, but I stayed in Z2, which was my overall goal.

Finally finished the nasty steroids, skin is calming and the poison ivy appears to be drying out.
DOMS set in during the day Saturday. I had worked one of the iris beds Friday and then ran with E Saturday morning (E is young and fast). This morning my body was in gripe mode. I got up late, finally got my act together and finished. All worthwhile, when I got to the walk part and snitched pears from the neighbor. I smiled all the way home with my treasure firmly in my grasp.9 -

@tarun_yadavA Sorry everything hurt on Friday. I hope your off day helped and your son had a happy birthday.
@AlphaHowls What happened that you are on steroids? I must have missed something. I hope you are okay and they are doing their job. Never mind. I looked back and saw that it is poison ivy. I hope it clears up soon. It much be pretty bad to require steroids.
@martaindale My dad was one of those who did not respond to poison ivy. The neighbor's would have him come pull it off of the trees they were cutting down. LOL Unfortunately, that is not one of the traits I inherited from him. It really reacts on me, so I do my best to avoid it and when I know I may have been exposed I wash my clothes by themselves and wipe all exposed skin with an alcohol soaked paper towel before showering. That usually keeps me from getting a rash. Yeah for getting some rain. I hope your plan to run part of the long run on the treadmill worked out. Sounds like a great plan to me. I see that it did work out. I'm glad you were able to get in the long run and not have to deal with the extreme heat and humidity.
@marisap2010 You are doing great with your plan. So glad that your husband worked it out so he can go on the trip and be there with you when you run the marathon!
@Scott6255 You are doing great to get 10 miles in those conditions.
Great running @Jane10s .
Looks like a great vacation @Teresa502 . Love the pictures and you did so good with running while you were there!
Great running and adventure @polskagirl01 . You are doing great to do what you can and 10K is nothing to sneeze at, especially in high humidity.
@eleanorhawkins Sounds like you had a great run, except for the trash you found where people aren't even supposed to be. So sorry that you are having heart/stomach pain. I hope you can see the GP soon and get some answers. Keep pushing for answers. Despite advances, doctor's still seem to not understand women and heart issues. Maybe a heart monitor is needed to see what is going on. I hope it is nothing serious and your plans don't get impacted.
Thank you! Bowling and pizza 😊
Think I may have enjoyed more than him! Ha!4 -

Thanks for the calculator!!!!
And nooo... I love the advice and tips! Why I joined a group like this in the first place.
Yesterday's one on Strava was considerably slower. Today, a bit quicker but still slower than normal. Normally - because I stick to the same outdoor, by-the-River route, I kind of tend to run the first mile hard and the last mile hard. Lately, I've been making a conscientious decision not to. So probably still need to do more than that to slow down.but definitely going to stick to the 4M ish zone for the next week-10 days5 -
@Teresa502 - Love your vacation spot! So beautiful! Great job getting out and running in addition to all of your other activities!
@polskagirl01 - Great to see that you were able to get out for a longerish run! Looks like it was an adventure! Love that you ran through the corn field.
@eleanorhawkins - I am glad you got in to see a GP so soon. I hope they can get the ball rolling and fins an answer to whatever is going on. I would bee terrified too! Great job on your big run up the hill. I am with you on the people who just have no respect for taking care of the environment.
@SummerSkier, @martaindale, @marisap2010 and anyone else who lives in the US south or east where high humidity is a thing... those of us in So CA where we rarely have it don't want it anymore and you can take it back now! We are just not used to it and don't like it!
I had decided to make today a speed work day if I didn't have Hobbes running with me - he makes it very difficult. He was excited to head out this morning but I was unsure because I was having stomach issues and thought maybe we would just get a slow and easy run in if anything at all. After a short walk I swung back by home to use the bathroom. I got ready to head back out and couldn't find Hobbes. He had gotten back in bed with my husband and refused to go back out with me😴. So the plan was on to do a HIIT workout if I could manage it. I stopped once again at the bathroom when I got over to the trail and decided I would go for it but not go too far from the bathroom just in case. It ended up being a great run. I was able to really get some good, fast intervals in (8:30-9:00 min pace). It's good to know there is still some speed in these old legs! They may hate me tomorrow though 😁 The marine layer clouds kept the temps in the low 70s with a cool breeze and 95% humidity (ugh). Once again had my own sweat storm going on.

I took three days off in a row. Had a great little trip to Ft. Worth for our anniversary. We didn't do a lot, just ate sushi and went to a bar. We can't do that here in the sticks.
I ran 10 miles this morning. It was supposed to rain all day, but so far the rain has not shown up. We really need it too. I slept in a little this morning, but I don't think it would have been any cooler if I had gotten up earlier. It was actually more pleasant at the end of my run than at the start because it was a little less humid.
@Teresa502 Beautiful vacation pics!

@tarun_yadavA one tip that helped me a lot was that you should go slow enough to be able to hold a conversation while you run. I generally run alone, but found that singing works too. Gets you some funny looks, but oh well.6

Good morning all ! Thank you, everybody, for all your hints and tips and advice!! So glad I joined this group!! 😊 Had a better day today. (ate a more carb-ier than normal dinner last night so felt I had more energy this morning, but kept it to 4.5 and didn't reall push myself hard.)

Nothing can stop you @AlphaHowls. Enjoy the pears!
This... I have no idea how you do it!
I've seen the doctor, and am seething. The same ER doctor who suggested it could be H. Pylori and told me to see my GP for tests prescribed Omeprazole, which can mess up the results of said tests, so I have to stop taking it and wait 15 days before they can do the tests and another 8-10 days for the results. "Take paracetamol if it happens again in the meantime." Ghee, thanks. I've lost 2 kilos I didn't want to lose in 11 days (funny how they're impossible to lose when you want to but not when you don't) and am now so scared of it happening again that I don't dare eat anything except toast. I guess (hope) hunger will overcome that eventually.
Having to come to terms with the fact that I'll probably have to DNS my race on the 4th as I won't even have had the tests. Also struggling with the fear that missing a few training runs will mess up my already slightly precarious training plan. The logical thing to do would be to not do either of the two shorter races I'm signed up for before the A race at the end of October to give me more leeway to move long runs back a couple of weeks and still be able to taper. Yes, I am typing that out to try and convince myself that it's the right thing to do.

@eleanorhawkins I agree with you... your typing fingers sound smarter than your running brain 😏6

@SummerSkier I hadn't thought about acid reflux, but you are correct. It could be that @eleanorhawkins . The first time I had a really bad episode, I thought I was having a heart attack. I started hurting up my right arm, into my neck/jaw, and down into my chest. I saw the doctor and he couldn't find anything. I figured out it was acid reflux later when it happened again when dad was in the hospital having bypass surgery. I didn't want to say anything to mom, but took a drink of water and that cleared it right up. I know that doesn't always happen, but that was my experience. Now when it happens, I drink water and it seems to wash the acid away and I'm fine. At any rate, @eleanorhawkins , I hope you are able to see your GP and get answers.
@SummerSkier You did fantastic with the self talk and getting that first 10 minutes done. Great run in the end.
@eleanorhawkins Wow. With being so tired, it sure sounds like something besides reflux. I hope the doctor you see today can get the ball rolling and give you some answers. So sorry to see that it sounds like the GP messed things up. I guess giving you the Omeprazole, he thinks it was acid reflux? I agree with your typing fingers too. Big hugs from TN.
Nice running @marisap2010 .
@AlphaHowls I'm glad the poison ivy is clearing up and glad to see that you ARE human after all. A fresh pear sounds wonderful. I hope your legs are feeling better this morning.
@shanaber Fantastic paces on those fast intervals. So glad you felt like doing such an awesome run.
Nice run @kgirlhart . I hope you got some rain but aren't in the flood area there in TX.

I totally talk to myself while I run. I plan out my day or week, talk through the schedule for my runs that week, make decisions on house stuff or vacations. Literally anything that comes to mind. My neighbors may think I’m crazy but they already see me almost every day running, so they probably already thought that.
I think you have made a wise decision. Or at least your typing fingers are trying to talk you into a wise decision! Sorry you’re feeling bad.4 -

Took an extra rest day yesterday since I did the HM Saturday. Today was a couple of slow miles to make sure everything feels ok. All good. Legs are a bit tired, but no weird pains, and the fatigue was probably not helped by the total misery that is the weather.
Technically, marathon/Dopey training starts today! This plan starts with some nice chill weeks, so it will work well to let me recover a little and get a small break before things start getting serious. I’m excited-nervous. The fact that my plan is starting makes it feel real, but 4 months still feels so far away. It will fly by.

I took a rest day from running yesterday, but my cross-training workout had lots of leg work (jump squats, burpees, etc.) so my legs felt extra heavy this morning. I managed to run 4.5 miles which brings my total to 56.48 for the month. Pretty sure I won't make my goal since I'm going hiking and camping this weekend.
@eleanorhawkins I'm so sorry for your health problems and the frustration with the doctors. I hope that you don't have any more episodes before you can have the scheduled tests. Now listen to that logical side of your brain and not your running side!
@martaindale - The Dopey run(s) will be such an accomplishment! Is your hubby running any of the races with you?
Happy belated anniversary @kgirlhart and Happy belated birthday @quilteryoyo!

@eleanorhawkins I am SO sorry to hear about the unnecessarily long wait now to get answers, especially when it might not even be that issue. You know I totally get the feeling of knowing the wise answer in my head but not wanting to do it. Ugggh.
I felt fine yesterday after run/walking longer than usual (lately) on Saturday, and woke up feeling great today, so I thought I'd try for the workout on the plan, and do it on the same route from Saturday (without the cornfield detour). The weather has cooled off and we've had lots of rain, and I had coffee, and all of this came together for a really good run! I can't remember my last run that actually felt good. I did the 3k warmup as whatever walk/run I felt like, then set a timer for 6x 2min run/90sec walk, and did it.(!) It felt appropriately hard but doable.(!) Once I had done the 6x, I decided that the structured intervals were going well, and restarted the timer for 6 more... once I did those, I was about 3k from home, which was supposed to be the cooldown, but I restarted the timer anyway and actually ran into the recovery intervals, making the run intervals longer and shortening the walk breaks.
I probably could've run more, but wanted to be reasonable, considering I am signed up for an 11k race on Saturday. I don't understand what my body is doing, but currently it is good and I'll take it and try not to overdo things.
No pictures today because the only one I took was of gross slugs 😆7
