@polskagirl01 so happy that you felt good on your run! Hopefully you are turning the corner3
-
@polskagirl01 yeah, what he said ^^^^1
-
@eleanorhawkins - what a mess with the doctor! Did he decide that was what it probably was or did he have any other possibilities? So frustrating!
@alphahowls - mmmm fresh pears!
@polskagirl01 - I saw that slug picture on Strava! It is one to definitely hide behind a spoiler here (or not post at all)! YUCK! So glad your run felt good!
I got out early again for a recovery run, not really expecting to be able to run much. My legs hadn't realized yet that they should be sore so I was able to run more than anticipated. They did start complaining on the way home and this afternoon have not been happy. Hopefully we will make it through agility class - maybe we will have short course bits to work on rather than running all over the field. Unlikely but one can wish 😁
Run the World team - we have hit California and are somewhere around Santa Barbara, hopefully running right along the coast and enjoying the cool marine layer coming off the ocean. Be sure to watch for sea otters, dolphins and whales. As you run through Malibu, check out the fancy (very expensive) ocean front, cliffside homes. Unfortunately as we progress into the LA area it is going to warm considerably. We should be coming into Anaheim tomorrow or the next day and you can stop for a little run around Disneyland Magic Kingdom and California Adventure and maybe even go over to Knotts Berry farm! Hobbes and I will be standing by to run out along our river trail north and over to the bike trail to turn east towards Phoenix where we can wave to @RunsOnEspresso. Be sure to fill up your hydration packs though, its going to be hot and we need to watch for monsoon flooding...9 -
@polskagirl01 So happy to hear that you are feeling better!!@martaindale - The Dopey run(s) will be such an accomplishment! Is your hubby running any of the races with you?
No, he's not. So far I haven't even been able to talk him into coming with me. He knows I'll basically be running and hanging out around the resort and he would be bored. He also doesn't really like doing stuff alone so he's cheering from afar.
@Scott6255 Saw some crazy pics of flooding in Dallas. Y'all doing ok?5 -
I hope everyone in the Dallas area is safe and that your families are safe - looks like a real mess there!0
-
Morning all.
Soooo.... Thanks for the singing a song tip. Not sure it's for me, but definitely slowed me down a touch more. I typically run (if it's say, a 5) the first 0.75 ish hard, and the last 0.75 ish hard (that's when I look at pace, and I'm all 'oohhh if I go at it, I can do sub 8:30" etc etc)... So made a conscientious effort not to do the first 0.75 ish hard - as slow as possible. So hummed a Bon Jovi ballad. Think it worked. LOL

@tarun_yadavA nice choice of song, and well done! I know it seems really counterproductive but if you stick to trying to slow down you'll soon see the benefits
This morning I decided that as 3 days of vegetation still hadn't completely cleared up my pain I would go out for a run and pretend I was fine. 8km on the plan for yesterday, so that's what I told myself I should do. HA! The jolting with every step soon told me it was not a good idea, so I gave up and walked for a while. Oh well, fingers crossed the movement will have helped some and I'll feel a little better later. Frustrating but it is what it is.
I offered my bib for the mountain HM at the beginning of October in our club chat group and someone would like it, so I'm going to give it to him and (upsetting as it is) that will remove the temptation to run it even if I'm still not well. It's too late to cancel or change the shorter one on Sept 4th, so I guess I'll go pick up the goodie bag (nice sweatshirt I'll no doubt get over feeling bad about wearing without having run the race) the day before and probably have a little cry. I've also reached out to the organisers of my A race (the not-quite-a-marathon-but-includes-HILLS) and asked whether it would be possible to change down to the 17km instead and how long I have to notify them if it is. This all sucks, but at least making a decision and doing something about it all makes me feel like I'm achieving something. Even if it's something I don't want to achieve.7 -
@eleanorhawkins sorry you will have to DNS your race, but it is the right call.
@shanaber thanks for the tour of CA. Brought back memories from 50 years ago (I was born in Burbank and lived in the LA valley until we moved to TX when I was 9)
Well it either extreme drought or extreme flooding here. But the worst places were downtown Dallas and east of us in Mesquite. We are ok. Thanks for the thoughts.6 -
1.3" of rain yesterday afternoon for a total of 3.5 since the weekend. we desperately need it in central tx but seriously it could be spread out just a bit. I heard it was almost 8 inches plus in just a few hours in downtown Dallas so not surprised it flooded. jeez.
@eleanorhawkins that doesn't sound like reflux to me. so sorry you are still in pain and i am the same and would have tried running. Jolting pain with every step sounds horrific. I seriously hope you don't have to live with this for another 10 days until the Omapr wears off and they can test. Question tho? was it helping when you took it for a few days?
I absolutely CANNOT run the first mile hard anymore. Maybe the last tho. Age and old body I think. sigh. i need to log my runs for Sun and Monday to see my totals and add to the RTW some. It looked like we are doing ok on pace so I haven't been adding because I am not on Strava it is a pain to manually add.3 -
@SummerSkier I don't really know if it was helping or not... he gave me something to take instead, but kind of hinted that it wouldn't be as effective and that after I've given the sample for the tests I can switch back if I want to. I mean, the pain isn't unbearable anymore, but it's definitely still there whereas the first time it happened last week it was all gone by this point. For now I've been told to assume it's gastritis and be careful with what I eat. Praying the H. Pylori tests come back positive as at least that seems to be relatively simple, if not very pleasant, to treat.
I did a little yoga after my attempted run. Cobra was SO painful I could hardly breathe at all, let alone take deep breaths, but it seems to have helped ease things a little bit more... I'm not so hunched over now. Fingers firmly crossed!

Running partner A returned from Italy. I had asked her for a sunrise picture.10

I had a nice 6 mile run this morning. We finally did get some rain yesterday. But only about a half inch. I'm a good two hours west of Dallas where there was flooding.
I wasn't expecting the run to be as nice this morning. The temperature was about 72°F, but there was 95% humidity and a dew point of 74°. So I figured it would probably be miserable. But it was clear and there were lots of stars still out an just enoughof a breeze to make it not unbearable. It started getting cloudy as I was nearing home and it has been cloudy all day. I don't think we will get any more rain though. I did see some critters today. One skunk, one possum and one deer. I also stopped by to see my favorite donkey and give her some carrots.

I think I sprained my ankle this morning when I stepped into a pothole and rolled it. I finally got up and hobbled out of the road, shook it off and finished my run but once I got to the office, I had a goose egg bump on the side of my foot. I've got a big overnight hiking trip this weekend so I will baby it the next few days I guess. Sigh... At least I got to see some of California!
Glad all our Texans are safe from the flooding.
Beautiful sunrise @alphahowls!

Today a run as slow as possibly possible to avoid anything resembling anaerobic running. Total failure. Ran out of energy at pretty much the same moment as during a much faster run, at the same number of steps. It was just a lot more boring and a lot harder on my knees. Right.5 -

Beautiful sunrise @alphahowls!
dang. I hope you did not break anything! damn potholes.1 -
@Teresa502 I hope your ankle is OK and feels much better after resting it.
"Plan" said rest, so rest I did. Except for a very short walk with hubby & daughter. And taking everything out of the kitchen food cabinets, cleaning, putting everything not in a jar/can into plastic containers, searching for the source of those pesky kitchen moths. Found it. Bag of sliced almonds. Yuck. Don't worry - no pictures! 😆
@eleanorhawkins I can't say enough how much I dislike that you're not feeling well. Your training has been going so well, and I've been enjoying hearing about your mountain adventures. I really hope this doesn't affect your big race.5 -
Dang @Teresa502 hope your ankle isn't too serious.
Sorry for your tough time @yirara 🙁
I did 6 miles on the treadmill this afternoon. 4.8 of that was "speed work".
I tried on some Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 shoes at the store the other day. They felt really good and had a nice pop to them. Then I found them for 50% off on the Saucony website. So naturally I bought 2 pair 😉
They arrived yesterday and I was eager to test them out. Did a few strides on the treadmill, and they didn't feel at all like they did in the store. Afterwards I tried them on the hardwood floors and they felt better. Thought that was weird, but I'll give them a chance when I can run outside.4 -
@Teresa502 I hope the ankle isn't seriously injured.
@eleanorhawkins I'm sorry about your races. I hope you get some answers soon.

Morning all.
Sang Always again... Still keeping it slower than the usual
5 -
Thanks for all the good wishes for my ankle. After taking a couple of Advil and icing it yesterday, it is so much better this morning. I’m still being conservative and continuing the icing and babying it today. Of course the temperature was a nice 58F when I left for work this morning. I did manage some weights in the basement but just not the same as pounding the pavement in the fresh air!
@Scott6255 – I hope the new shoes work out. Hopefully, they are just outdoor shoes!
Glad you found the source of the kitchen moths @polskagirl01. I bet your kitchen cabinets look great!
Sorry about the tough run @yirara. Sometimes they are just like that. Makes us appreciate the good ones more.
@tarun_yadavA – I’m living vicariously through you and your runs along the River Thames. Also envious of your slow pace…. 😊

Traveling so did my run on the treadmill after work yesterday. Probably do the same today but I'm hoping that maybe the weather will cooperate. I don't care if it's raining as long as it's not pouring. I didn't pack a hat. I also just need it to not be miserably hot.7 -

That's more like it. I repeated yesterday's run, but this time not at a 'shying away from anaerobic' pace but at a comfortable, faster pace. Guess I should have run 1 minute longer for a proper comparison Anyway, I'm suddenly very close to the magic 80km again! Maybe I'll still manage that this month. lets see.6 -
Here's how that 2-week plan looks now, after today's run:Now to rest up and hope Saturday is a good day.
The X's were days when I felt awful and still ran, but just did what I could - shorter distances instead of the workout. From Saturday on, I've been feeling better.8 -
5 miles after strength training
6 -
@eleanorhawkins I'm so sorry that the Omeprazole messed up the tests and that you have to do them over. I'm sorry that you also had to DNS your race. I think it was probably the best call though. I hope you can get all of this figured out and get to feeling better very soon.
@polskagirl01 Good luck on your race Saturday!
Everyone has been doing great with their runs this week.
It stormed on Monday, so I wasn't able to get out to do my foundation run. I'll try to catch it up later this week - maybe do two runs tomorrow, if I can work it out. Yesterday was a tempo run for 4.1 miles. Today was a Z1 recovery; however, it started pouring rain sooner than expected, and we had lightning alerts, so it was cut way short. We have high chances of rain all week, which stinks. I don't mind the rain, but I don't want to run if it is lightning. Maybe tomorrow will work out better.4 -

Ran outside along the bayou after work. My air bnb is right next to where I used to live years ago when I was in training so I'm pretty comfortable with this area. It was kind of weird running along the same path I walked probably hundreds of times before. Sort of deja vu.
Stormed all day so while it was still hot, it was cooler than it usually is that time of day and the cloud cover is still hanging around.6 -

Today's run was 5 miles. It was still humid, but it felt a little less hot so it was pretty pleasant. I saw a skunk, but no other critters today.

Morning all! Absolutely miserable here today in London. And I slowed down - A LOT! More for weather , but hey!
7 -
I'm three days behind. Trying to catch up, so be patient with me. LOL
@martaindale I talk to myself all of the time. It makes me glad that people use those earbuds for talking on the phone because I figure people just assume I am actually talking to someone other than myself. LOL Good luck with the marathon training. It is exciting.
Thanks @Teresa502 ! I hope you enjoy your hike this weekend and look forward to some pictures later.
@polskagirl01 Glad that your runs are going so much better.
Nice running @shanaber. The last time I looked at the Run the World map we were nearing CA. Thanks for the description of the things we will be passing. I hope we have a nice run with you and Hobbes.
@eleanorhawkins It sounds like you are making wise decisions, even if they are really hard ones. Hang in there and I hope you figure out what is going on soon.
Glad you didn't get flooded out @Scott6255 .
@eleanorhawkins I just read the description of the pain you had on the 23rd. I agree that that doesn't sound like acid reflux at all. It sounds more like gall bladder or appendix to me. Did they check that out? It know we are all throwing everything we can think of out there and we aren't doctor's, but we care. I remember when my brother had appendicitis every little bump made the pain horrible. That's why I brought that up.4 -
@quilteryoyo they prodded pretty much everything and couldn't find anything, they did blood tests for liver & kidney markers, also the pain was too high up and dead centre, which apparently rules out appendix/gall bladder. Thanks (to everyone) for caring, I know I'm moaning too much in here!
I'm more or less comfortable now, it's back to just feeling like I have nasty DOMs in my abs along with some things that sound like H. Pylori. Yesterday I went out and managed what I'm pretty sure was my slowest 5k ever. I stuck to 90-30 second run-walk intervals and it was uncomfortable (especially going downhill) but bearable so I told myself it was awesome training for running ultras some day because everyone suffers pain and stomach issues during ultras. Yes, I know I'm crazy LOL.
Forcing myself to rest today, will have another go tomorrow and see if I can go faster/further.7
