Hey Team! August is challenging for me since every single weekend is packed full with either friends/family visiting or us traveling to see them.
Goal: 16 AF days for the month; no more than 7 in a week.
8/24 W - Drinks
8/25 Th - Drinks - Camping at Patapsco Valley MD with family and friends.
8/26 F - Drinks - Camping
8/27 Sa - Drinks - Camping - We all went on a long nice hike down to the river. Hot days but nice at night.
8/28 Su - Drinks - Home - Finished a bottle of wine with hubby.
I'm not even close to meeting my goals for August but staying AF for the next 3 days. I still find tracking extremely helpful and glad to have found this group.

@globalhiker Im in for joining you for the last three days of August AF. For some reason just writing that I’ve been AF since 8/20 has put pressure on me (?)
We can do it!!!4 -
This thread has been a game changer for me and I sincerely appreciate every one of you!
I joined in July 2022 and it has already made a big impact!
8/1-8/7: 5 AF out of 7
8/8-8/14: 5 AF out of 7
8/15-8/21: 6 AF out of 7
8/22-8/28: 7 AF out of 7
Rolling total: 23 out of 28 AF
I have been AF since 8/20! This is the longest I have been AF since 2017. My thoughts are more clear and I wake up feeling better but my anxiety is very, very high. I’m not saying alcohol helps my anxiety but it sure makes me more aware of it. I have resources for this, I just have to find the time to use them.
8/29: AF

Checking in with the spare time I have.
Still trying to work during all this packing, drama and such. My last day of work I have told clients is Sept 7th.(so much denial, "maybe she will change her mind")
In the past week people are taking us out for lunches, dinners and we had a dance party at a local place in town Fri and Sat night.
Everyone wants to buy me drinks( @Lilylady3k this is when I could have used that statement you posted recently) As the night goes on one of my dear friends is in full tears at the table because the alcohol over took her emotions. I am sure this was not how she wanted our last fun time out to be. I felt so bad for her and her husband had to take her home early.
Was proud to hold my ground with one mango mojito at a dinner. Then other night one lemon drop.
@lmlmrn what are these sticks you are going to be waving at the fair? For parking cars? Will talk soon ❤
Will be posting the new link for Sept LESS ALCOHOL this afternoon. 👀 keep looking.

I'm in on the end of August @globalhiker with you AF.
Welcome to @malinda5903. This gang on here ROCKS!
To EVERYONE else huge wave and hellos.
LESS is LESS!6 -
I decided to have a glass of wine last night when I saw my husband made homemade pesto to go with chicken and pasta that he cooked for me. So much for being AF last three days of August. However, I only had one glass, did not pour the extra half glass usually do, so that is a win for me. I am holding on to “less alcohol” like grim death! Haha!
Now, can I be AF tonight and tomorrow night? The thought of it already makes me a little antsy, and I’m just having my morning coffee now! I know it’s just a habit, really need to try to push through the craving tonight, and make myself a mocktail instead. One day at a time.

August AF days: 17
Only 2 more to go. 48 hours.
Slept fine. 2 stress gummies then 2 melatonin gummies before bed and away I went.
Going for a run shortly. Contemplating either joining a gym or joining a yoga studio. Yoga is really expensive in my area but thinking it could be part of my "lifestyle" change. The $$ I was spending on wine could go to yoga. Plus, all those yoga folks look so relaxed and limber and "chill", I want to feel like them.7 -
@Womona I LOVE pesto sauce. I had grilled chicken with zhoug sauce (cheated, store bought) which is similar but spicier.
3 -
Yummy pesto sauce. I had my visiting friend make it for me several times, with the ask that he make it from my Oregano instead of basil. Perfect timing with us harvesting my garlic on the first day that he was here.
I used Konjac noodles with it once, he didn't notice the difference that they are only 10 calories for the entire package vs. "real" pasta.
@globalhiker
I tried Yoga dutifully for 6 months every day, but it just wasn't for me. My sister is a Yoga teacher, and her daughter is a Yoga Master. I didn't get that gene. Hip-hop-ish dance is way more fun for me.
There are lots and lots of good Yoga classes on Youtube, many of them free.
Let us know how the Yoga works out for you, it helps so many people.3 -
I am Dawn. I joined this thread in November of 2018
My usual goal: 16-20 AF per month.
I had 19AF days for July.
Diary style (I post the next morning)
Sunday August 28 - AF - Had some weird AF pinot grigio sparkling pear thing, it actually was pretty good. Hit my 16 : - )
Monday August 29 - AF - Had the other half of the can of that sparkling (saving calories as usual, otherwise it would have been double the calories of my gin cocktails). We had a cool weather change for a week, now we are back to hot weather. Trying to keep up my tan before Mexico (even though it is forecast to rain the entire time that I am there) just got easier with the weather change back to summer.

Very proud of myself today. I am pretty sure it is the only time I have not had alcohol after Tuesday gals golf league. A small victory, but I'm taking it.
Tomorrow I am going to dinner at a restaurant called R Wine Bar. Plan is to have club soda. The lady in the couple I'm going with often doesn't have alcohol so I'm hoping she doesn't tomorrow night.

@globalhiker Have you tried Pilates? The Club Pilates on Recker and the 202 has excellent instructors. I just re-enrolled to start October 1st when I return to Mesa. It is time to start taking care of myself again as it has been just shy of 6 months since my husband took his life. I also signed back up for Massage Envy so I can start getting my monthly 90 minute facials. There is an amazing esthecian at the Massage Envy on McKellips. I fall asleep every time.7
-
Great advice @Breathe57103. I know Club Pilates only because it's by Sprouts, and I am there several times a week. Now I will try it out Sold on the convenience factor plus I believe you.
Like @dawnbgethealthy knows, I do like high-energy in the morning - like running and hiking and Zumba etc., but I am missing the "relax" workout late afternoon/eve. like the Yoga or Pilates....for me, it could become the good "happy hour" replacement. Yes, it costs $$$, but I have to consider the value it will deliver. I will try it.6 -

8/29: AF
8/30 AF
8/31: plan AF I’m too tired to drink!
Rolling total 26 out of 31 AF for August
July was 17 AF out of 31
June was 9 AF out of 30 (!)
So I’m making progress. I am 100% not ready to give up alcohol. That makes me nervous. I don’t even think that’s why I came here, I think I came here to be held accountable and to cut down. That’s what I’m doing. Gotta get this anxiety under control though!
Everyone here is awesome and lovely.

Well, there’s your answer. Sounds like yoga is worth the money, ans you can cut back elsewhere. Also, yoga will increase your strength in addition to increasing your flexibility, so win-win!
Alternatively, join a gym that offers yoga classes.
I used to do Pilates at the a club Pilates near me. My only issue was getting I to the class I wanted with my very limited schedule once I started working, so I had to drop it. But it’s also great for strength and flexibility.

@joans1976 i hear ya. I don’t want to give up alcohol, I just want less of it.
I had a glass of wine while I worked on fixing cushions for my boat, and really wanted to pour another half glass, but I didn’t. So that’s less alcohol, even though my goa was to be AF. I really wonder if I should just stop beating myself up for not having a lot of AF days. It’s honestly exhausting. So on the fence.5 -
Getting in on the chat about workouts. SORRY yoga puts me to sleep, really anything that requires me to lie on my workout mat with relaxing music is sure to knock me out.
I like spicy music during kick boxing, weight training, etc. All the BeachBody workouts I do have excellent music and fun trainers with a great sense of humor.
To relax all I need to do is lie on the bed or couch with a book propped up on my belly to read. ZAP I am out like a light. (Also any hot beverage like cocoa or tea or carob is extremely relaxing with some smooth jazz music playing)4 -

8/29 M - AF
8/30 Tu - AF - Two NA IPAs last night. It felt like I was cheating.

Posting my August accountability already. Going to be AF today/tonight
A 6 days/ 7 standard size drinks
AF 25 days
First half of August 1-17 dry
Count this up as a success, during a hectic time with selling and moving 1500 miles.
👍👍👍4 -
@Womona
Definitely don't beat yourself up. Less is less. Keeping to one glass of wine instead of more is a win.
@Lilylady3k
You and I (and probably everyone) lose weight when we don't have alcohol.3 -

One glass of wine tonight. I could kill off the bottle with another half glass to kick off my weekend, but I won’t. One is enough.4
