AF this evening at bookclub!
August accountability: 7 days AF
Alcohol: 10 days (21 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.5 -
I planned to be AF today, but ended up going to dinner with my son after going to the cemetery to see my husband's headstone that was placed this week. Nothing like seeing your own named etched on a headstone waiting for the date of your demise. Hope to be AF tomorrow.

This thread has been a game changer for me and I sincerely appreciate every one of you!
I joined in July 2022 and it has already made a big impact!
8/1-8/7: 5 AF out of 7
8/8-8/14: 5 AF out of 7

Yesterday while I was swimming I was really craving a drink. I’m not sure why. It passed by the time I was done swimming. 🤷🏻♀️
8/17: AF
Staycation this week away from work makes it much easier to be AF6 -
@MissMay fingers crossed it all goes through without a hitch. Very exciting though!!!! Let us know when the deal is done!
@Lilylady3k what a little sweetie pie ! Your granddaughter is just adorable.
@tmbg1 amazing how sleep is better with no alcohol! I find that as well.
@Breathe57103 wow, that’s sobering, no pun intended! May that be a reminder to us all to make the most of every day.5 -
AF again last night. It’s definitely easier when I log all my food, and not just stop with lunch. Things go off the rails at dinner time with both food and alcohol, usually. Today I meet with the nutrition consultant. Did the InBody scan yesterday and have 9 pounds of fat to lose. Ugh!
Wine night at work, only having one. Tomorrow hopefully the engine on the boat will work, and we can sail tomorrow!5 -
Hey Team! August and early September are challenging for me since every single weekend is packed full with either friends/family visiting or us traveling to see them.
Goal: 16 AF days for the month; no more than 7 in a week.
8/15 M - Drinks - Plan was AF - Last day with our visitors. I stuck to plan at first while they were here, but it didn't last.
8/16 Tu - Drinks - Plan was AF
8/17 W - AF - Getting back on track. We're heading to NC this weekend for MIL's 93 birthday. Plan is AF until camping trip the next weekend. I counted days and it's still possible for me to meet my goals for the month but I'll need to stick to plan. I need to stick to mostly AF days for the rest of the month.
Rolling total: 5 AF out of 17 days,4 -
August AF days: 1,3,5,7,9, 12, 13,14, 15,17
On my 5th straight AF day, I fell apart on the 16th and went on a 5pm wine run. It was because I couldn't take the lack of sleep and just wanted to knock myself out. I did sleep great but I woke up with a monster headache. Self-medication with alcohol never works. It will for a couple of hours then the price to pay for 24 hours of hangover after just makes no sense.
Getting ready to go exercise now and treat myself well today.5 -
@Lilylady3k your little one is adorable! And growing so fast already!4

@joans1976
Very interesting that vacation is leading you to LESS drinking.
Hmm. Drinking tied to work stress?
I am so glad that you are having a relax time. Although your staycation was not the plan, I feel like it is even better for you : - )
Enjoy3 -
I am Dawn. I joined this thread in November of 2018
My usual goal: 16-20 AF per month.
I had 19AF days for July.
Diary style (I post the next morning)
Wednesday August 17 - AF - It was touch and go, I had the blender and all of the stuff out several times. My drinks now are mostly when I have had a really good day, or sweated in my garden and accomplished a lot. I had someone come early for me to get off of work and went to a fantastic lake that is pretty much only reachable by truck. I met up with my friend Fred and we drove in. Resisted drinks while at the lake. My hairdresser fit me in to dye out my grey roots when I got back to town, for me to wash out in 1/2 hour when I got home. So there I was with 27 minutes to spare, super hot day, new Gin to make cocktails with...whew. Really glad that I resisted, I have many more AF days to string together this month still. Planned drinks on Friday, so just one drinks day this week. I can wait.
This might be one of the nicest lakes that I have ever been to. I can't get in there on my own with my little car, but aim to get there at least once each summer. Apparently people go and skate and play hockey there in the winter! Life goal : - )

Good day to everyone
@Lilylady3k How cute is that! I have never seen a bad baby photo and he is perfect
@dawnbgethealthy what a wonderful getaway. I can see why it is protected with rough roads!
@Breathe57103 I am sorry for your loss and you are coping and moving through life the best you can. We are here if you need us
@MissMay wow the check will be in the bank tomorrow? Then the big move? or are you going to try your traveling art show??? LOL xx
Yesterday was very warm outside and today promises to be hotter so I have our house open to the morning air then will close it up in an hour or so and hope for the best.
I got a text from a dear friend of my daughters (I look at her as one of my daughters) she will be up for a visit Saturday morning. I don't know why she is up in our area with her spouse but I have not seen them since her marriage 3 years ago. I am so excited. Then we will be off to my mom's to eat a turkey dinner and play cards until she gets tired and kicks us out.
I will check back in later....6 -
My sister came over for dinner and we still have my DIL and granddaughter here ...
With my sister I usually end up drinking a lot more but DH & I kept it together.
2 glasses of wine with dinner. It was a nice evening.
August accountability: 7 days AF
Alcohol: 11 days (23 drinks)

Again I planned to be AF today, but ended up hanging out with a friend. At least I wasn't drinking alone.
I'm not sure what will happen with alcohol tomorrow. I am going to be spending the evening with my late husband's family. I love them dearly, but it just isn't the same as it was when he was here.
8/11 AF
8/12 AF

8/14 2 drinks
8/15 AF
8/16 2 Michelob Ultra at golf (planned)
8/17 3 Michelob Ultra planned AF
8/18 plan 4 Michelob Ultra (on the bright side it is only 395 calories and I was on plan for the day.)5 -
August AF days: 1,3,5,7,9, 12, 13,14, 15,17,18
2nd back-to-back AF done, of course my insomnia is sticking with me. I'll plan to make it through today.
@dawnbgethealthy say "hi" to Fred for us! Good to see you are enjoying your lakes over there!
@lmlmrn I read about your heat wave. Can you get in a couple of day trip out to coastal or cooler areas? I'd be driving out to the Cascades somewhere.
Side note: last night I read something new: alcohol depletes collagen AND it can stay in your hair. Over time, alcohol use can cause dry, brittle, breaking hair, and cause excessive hair loss.
Let Vanity be my motivation today. At my age, I need all the vanity (and collagen) I can get !4 -
@Breathe57103 it's good you're staying connected with close friends and family. And we're glad you are here with us. It brings me to reality and makes me realize how much today matters.

8/18: AF I traveled about an hour yesterday to go to a different grocery store. A food paradise if you will. (I went for the cheese.) They had a very large alcohol section and I’m assuming some good AF options but it was so big and overwhelming, I just skipped it. And I likely would have ended up buying alcohol. Just didn’t want it.

@dawnbgethealthy Yes, staycation does agree with me….sleeping in, swimming everyday, cooking healthy meals, not just collapsing on the couch after work. My work is definitely a stressor. I have a million reasons to quit and a million reasons to stay. My best friend of 38 years died March 1 and I have been trying to figure out how to deal with that as well.4
-
@Breathe57103 There are no words I can offer for comfort but I admire you for checking in here each day. This is a pretty awesome group of people. One day at a time.4
-
@dawnbgethealthy - The remote lake looks lovely. Thank you for sharing.3

@globalhiker
Well, take motivation wherever you can get it, but gurl, you are not in need of more collagen, your skin is amazing!!3 -

Thursday August 18 - AF - Went to my favourite lake after work, very very hot here. Knowing that Friday is my "drinks" day, and that I will be working a split shift Friday was enough motivation not to have drinks after the lake on Thursday. I often fall asleep on my floatie, I may have, and then...I felt my finger being pulled. A turtle was trying to eat my finger. I was like "hey turtle!!" Haha, fingers and toes up on the floatie : - ) Didn't break the skin or anything, and didn't hurt at all.
I made myself a yummy drink with cherry extract and slim10. Yes, it really would have tasted better with my new pink gin and new cherry liqueur from the distillery in Kimberley, but still good.
This is my "selfie" coming back from the lake (yeah, I jump in my car like that)
This is my "ride"
This is my fave lake for floating

Wow, @dawnbgethealthy you look great! And the pictures of the lake etc. are beautiful.

wow @dawnbgethealthy the pictures are great
Today DH closed up shop early and we went to one of our favorite irish pub's. I kept my beer on the lighter side and 2 glasses. Then indulged in a beer nap when I got home.
Anyway, tomorrow we will be taking turkey dinner to my mom's LOL Long story short my DH really likes turkey. Every year around thanksgiving turkeys go on sale so I buy several. One/two for the holidays and one for DH birthday. Well this year we had covid on his birthday so we did not celebrate. And now it is do or toss this frozen bird. We decided to 'do' hence turkey in the summer. I am going to cook it early in the am. Then we are taking all of it to my mom's house so we don't get it real hot in there.
@MissMay we are all waiting for an invitation to that new dig you are going to move into LOL5 -
@Lilylady3k beautiful Granddaughter pic 🥰3
-
Ok, is it just me or does @dawnbgethealthy look really HOT in that bathing suit?
DAWN you are a rocking 60's hottie! Keep up whatever it is your doing, cause your doing it well.5 -
Thank you @lmlmrn
Yup, it is officially SOLD as of yesterday.
As soon as I find a new place down there you will be the first to know.
Realtor brought over the sold sign ti hang at the end if the road. She also brought over citrus beer for us all to celebrate. No biggie, had half a cup and stopped after that. But I will calculate in into my month.

@tmbg1 sorry you are feeling sad about the college drop-off and dealing with other issues. Hope you feel better soon. @MissMay great job limiting yourself to one glass. @joans1976 good job skipping the alcohol department! I was supposed to have my procedure last week and after being AF for 6 days it was cancelled that morning due to illness. I am prepping all over again for a procedure next week. Will be the most AF days I have had in a LONG time, which is a good thing.7
