@lmlmrn you went to a place that was selling stuff and the woman would not sell you an item you wanted??? That is bizarre. Maybe it was like adopting a puppy and you just didn't appear to be the correct match for those earrings 🤣🤣🤣
You and @forestdweller1 have the most detailed posts, as if I am there beside you
Glad your trip was nice. You deserve it after all that renovating of your home.
YES YES YES this is the week my house sale is finalized.
We will all need to party when that paper gets signed. 🎉

August Accountability -
AF 14 days
Last time I had a completely dry August was 2020. This year will probably be like a drizzle, not dry.4 -
Hi. I checked in mid-May and shared that my husband of 32 years took his life in March and I have been drinking daily ever since. I did not succeed reducing my daily moderate drinking from the time of that post until now. About a month ago I had severe anxiety and have now started some low dosage meds and weekly counseling.
I am really trying to recommit to not drinking every day (especially when alone). I started last Thursday trying to regulate again so I will start my tracking then.
8/11 AF
8/12 AF
8/13 3 drinks
8/14 2 drinks
*8/15 plan AF
*8/16 plan 2 Michelob Ultra at golf
I am going to make a note on my calendar to check in each day. I'm not sure why I quit checking in when I am not succeeding. Thank you for keeping this group going. It's been very helpful over the years.

Grieving is a tough thing, and the fact that you came back speaks volumes! Sorry to hear about your anxiety kicking up.
If I’m off my plan, I find that I don’t want to make my lack of tracking or going over my goal “real” by posting to the group. I have to consciously check in, even though the folks here are awesome! So that’s something to consider. Either way, great to hear from you! We’ve all had to do a Re-start at some point.4 -
Three drinks yesterday, and it was way too much. I didn’t even want it tonight. I have been on top of tracking starting today because of my upcoming nutrition appointment. I didn’t have room for wine anyway, so I had no problem being AF. Hmmm, maybe if I consistently log my food every day (and not just blow it off after lunch) I may actually make better choices and not go over my calorie limit. Hey, isn’t that what MFP is all about? Haha!3

I stayed AF despite all the temptations last night. DH opened a bottle of nice wine at 6pm but I was headed out to book club at a mexican restaurant at 7pm so I did not indulge in a glass. I drooled over the drink menu. So many varieties of margaritas and one friend had ordered a Paloma (tequila, lime and grapefruit soda) that I really wanted to try. But even when the waiter accidentally brought her 2 instead of 1 I did not offer to take it off her hands. I was the 1 out of 7 with water being refilled constantly and no alcohol in front of me. Then I return home at 9pm and DH had finished the bottle of wine and moved on to bourbon and sprite. It just was not my night to drink ... lots of determination to start the week AF. My plans are to at least make it through M-W. We will see how strong willed I am tonight at home with DH, Italian dinner & wine I'm sure. Then another book club on Wednesday night.
August accountability: 5 days AF
Alcohol: 10 days (21 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.6 -
August AF days: 1,3,5,7,9, 12, 13,14, 15
Got through 4th AF night in a row and my sleep is just getting worse. I woke up at 11:30 pm. and probably every hour thereafter. Up at 3:30 a.m. and hoping I don't act like a zombie at work today.
Oh well, nothing great in life comes without any effort.
Today, it's charge full speed ahead....day 5 AF in a row, bring it ON !6 -
@Lilylady3k wow, you really did a great job of dodging those alcohol bullets! Great wine at home, and then book club? Wow. Impressive.
@globalhiker your sleep will get better soon! Your body is just re-adjusting to no alcohol, and trying to find that equilibrium between seratonin and dopamine, according to the Annie Grace 30 day program at least. Keep your chin up!3 -
@Breathe57103, nice to "see" you again. I really, really wish for good things to come your way.
@Lilylady3k you have some amazing willpower there. Your post is making me crave an oversized super-sour virgin margarita in a heavy glass, frosty with salt on the rim. I will have to find a lo-cal recipe.
@Womona, for me it's the diet or AF, I can't do both at the same time because that is just too much change for my brain to accept. Luckily, my appetite goes away when I am AF several days in a row. Now all I need is that frosty AF margarita for breakfast3 -

I have been sleeping very poorly for a few months which doesn't help my will power.
Have a good Tuesday everyone.5 -

@MissMay My parents are in the midst of selling their house and buying a condo. It is an emotional rollercoaster! They get their hopes up, then an inspection happens and something awful is wrong and they have to start all over.
@Lilylady3k You do have great willpower and determination! I don’t know how I would do drinking less with all that alcohol around me! Nice work!4 -
@Lilylady3k
Incredible willpower on your part with so much alcohol around!
I bet that you feel really good today, not only clear headed because of the no booze, but also proud of yourself for resisting. One day at a time right?
Do you have some friends that don't drink btw? I don't think that I do.4 -
I am Dawn. I joined this thread in November of 2018
My usual goal: 16-20 AF per month.
I had 19AF days for July.
Diary style
Friday August 12th - Drinks - Sunday will be AF, and as many AF days as I can string together after that. It might be hard after drinking every day! So wonderful having my old friend here! We haven't been overdoing it after both puking the first night : - )
Saturday August 13 - Drinks. We bought some bottles from a Gin tasting that we went to earlier in the week, lots of cocktails made with the 4 varieties. Sunday will begin AF, hope that it is not too hard after drinking every day. Really, no regrets, had a fabulous time and didn't feel like being AF.
Sunday August 14 - AF - I have quite a few to try to string together here. I had an AF beer on the porch, a new kind with 40 calories instead of my usual 35 calories. Really not much less calories than my gin cocktails, going to switch over to Ice 0 calorie drinks for Monday.
Monday August 15 - AF - I had a cherry limeade Ice 0 calorie on the porch after work. I got used to having a gin cocktail while my friend was here. I need 10 more AF days this month!
Rolling total: 6AF days out of 15 days4 -
This thread has been a game changer for me! I so appreciate every single one of you!
*August goals: 18-20 days AF with no more than 2 drinks in one night
*Stop and think before opening a drink to prevent pouring alcohol down the drain-save some money!
Good luck everyone!
8/1-8/7: 5 AF out of 7
8/8-8/14: 5 AF out of 7
8/15: AF Staycation agrees with me. I realized the other day that I’ve gone to sleep many nights without any alcohol in the house, which was a concern for me last month.5 -
good day to everyone
AF last night....coming back from days away has been a little harder than I remember. But I will continue to moderate and/or weekends only then only 2 drinks per day. I can live with that right now
OH funny I will be working our monster state fair again this year. Yeah. I don't find out my 'shift hours' until next weeks mandatory staff meeting. Thats fine. I only hope this time I am not the 'float' that has to close each night. I am not a night owl believe me.
So maybe I did a so-so thing. I put a review up on yelp of the restaurant that we went to in the Dalles in OR. It was not the most flattering but it was honest about the level of service for an what I call a bit of $$ place. Including a few words on the food. The bright side I tried burrata cheese and am totally hooked!
Ah remodel is still ongoing. The granite counter top people are back today taking apart what they did last month. The glue they used seeped out and discolored the granite. (IMHO they did not use enough hardener and it never cured + DH works with that type of epoxy everyday and knew exactly what happened.) Next Monday the imitation marble company will be putting up the tub surround in our main bathroom then I can have the contractor come back in to assemble the rest of the bathroom. Then my hiring/paying people will be done. The rest is on us. But the end is in sight.
I need to get back in here an shout out some personals. I am sorry I am not ignoring you I have read everything.
The aging parent(s) (mine included), the sale of homes, the loss of a loved one, the delicious zero calories available to us poor folks
Still shaking my head over the woman who would not sell me a $15.00 pair of earrings. LOL4 -
@lmlmrn mmmmmm…. burrata! My favorite! Maybe that crazy jewelry lady will like you better if you paid in burrata??? Haha! What a nut job.
AF again tonight, and still doing great with logging my food. I will tell you, I cannot look at any more spaghetti squash, I’ve had it for the last three nights as leftovers! We still have one more from our garden to cook up. I can’t. Of course we don’t can or anything, and I’m not sure how it would keep if we froze it. I may just donate it.
AF again today, went to lunch with friends planning to have wine, but since they didn’t, I didn’t either. Good thing because I had a bunch of stuff to do and wine would have just made me tired. I could go for a glass right now, not gonna lie, but there is no wine in the house, and I’m not going to the liquor store just to have some.5 -

@dawnbgethealthy I used to drink zero ICE all the time. My go to flavor was mango. You can really dress it up ina fancy stemmed glass. One day I added a rounded scoop of mango sorbet and a bing cherry garnish on a cocktail skewer. It was so beautiful and refreshing and no one questioned my choice of "beverage" as we sat on my deck enjoying the view.
ENJOY5 -
Well I did it yesterday....signed off on my house!!!!!
Now the paperwork is in route to the buyer to sign by 11:00am Friday morning.
I will breath easy when the check is in my bank account. So no celebrations yet. POSITIVE THOUGHTS.
AF still because I don't need a foggy brain.

AWESOME accountability, strength and control to all.

@dawnbgethealthy - I do have a friend that doesn't drink because she is allergic to almost everything. She is the one that I go shooting sporting clays with Which is a great sport since I don't eat or drink during that activity! She is also in my Wed night book club so it helps there is at least one person not drinking at the table.
Many of my friends are not daily drinkers ... they are social drinkers and usually only have 1-2.
However the people I'm around the most are my husband and sister ... where it seems the cork is always popping.5 -
@lmlmrn - What??? The earrings didn't fit your aura or something?
@MissMay - CONGRATS!!!! Selling your house has you headed toward a wonderful adventure. Crossing my fingers that all goes through on Friday.
@dawnbgethealthy - I used to drink grapefruit zero ICE all the time. I need to pick some up again and pour it into a pretty glass. Thanks for the reminder!
@Womona - Great on avoiding wine at lunch and tracking all your food! It really does help to surround ourselves with friends that don't drink all the time and then not buy it for our homes as well. If only I controlled my circumstances ... but it is what it is.

AF last night!
Long story short. My son is out of town, the AC went out on their house so DIL, granddaughter #1 (7months) & their 2 dogs are now staying with us until we can get her AC fixed. DH did not open a bottle of wine. Not sure if it was because they were staying with us or his overindulgence the previous night. Either way I was not tempted.
My plan is to stay AF tonight at book club.
August accountability: 6 days AF
Alcohol: 10 days (21 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

I joined in July 2022 and it has already made a big impact!
8/1-8/7: 5 AF out of 7
8/8-8/14: 5 AF out of 7
8/15: AF
8/16: AF
Yesterday while I was swimming I was really craving a drink. I’m not sure why. It passed by the time I was done swimming. 🤷🏻♀️

@MissMay
Such great news for you! Can't wait until Friday and beyond : - )
@Womona I stopped growing Squash, it takes up too much space for getting like 6 squash.
I have carved out and frozen spaghetti squash, it worked out fine.
I don't have pasta very often, but have swiveled to Kanjac or shitake noodles - 10 calories for the whole pack. Not as soggy or flavourful as spaghetti squash, and firmer.
Have you been out in your boat?

Tuesday August 16 - AF - Those Ice drinks last me 4 sittings, and don't lose their fiz in the fridge. Pretty good for a dollar! I had it in a chilled champagne flute after cutting the grass, and then was asked to come back to work to cover for somebody. I really felt like drinks after that, but didn't because on Wednesday I am going to a lake after work and don't want a bloated belly : - ) Long way to 16 still. Calling Friday my day to have drinks so that I can avoid them until then, knowing that one is on the horizon.
Rolling total: 7AF days out of 16 days5 -
I've been checking my sleep score and it seems consistently higher on AF nights.6
