@ahoy_m8 I’m so terribly sorry for your loss! Death of a parent is a lot to deal with, and the feelings are so raw. I hope you find comfort and healing during this difficult time.
@joans1976 sorry you had to jump back into the stress pool with your job. You may not need a life coach, just an updated resume and a LinkedIn profile!!!
@sarah7591 most of us have had a rocky start with cutting down alcohol. Sometimes we are cooking right along and get derailed.
It does get easier!
@MissMay congratulations on selling the house! It’s officially official! So happy for you.
@dawnbgethealthy the little turtle nibbling on your finger… I can’t even!4 -
Had an absolutely fantastic weekend of sailing and swimming in the bay. Summer bliss! Except I had 3 drinks each day. TWo High Noons on the boat, and a glass of wine at home with dinner. AF last night. I would have liked a glass of wine, trust me, but didn’t fit into my macros….
So I met with the nutrition consultant this past Thursday. Turns out I am not eating enough calories! I need to up my protein intake, (which according to her, builds and repairs muscle, plus helps me sleep better). I can lose weight and eat more food????
Sign me up! Hence, tracking my food and macros (right now concentrating on protein).
I was really expecting to be told no more bread and no more alcohol for the rest of my life, which would have bummed me out. However, there is room enough for everything. Tracking my food has been very helpful. It was a pretty easy decision to say no to a drink last night. If I do plan to drink, it’s helpful to pre-log so I can factor that in to other food decisions. Fingers crossed!5 -
[@sarah7591 and @Breathe57103 you both have NOT done terrible in my mind.
You clicked on our thread to check us out and then posted, you told us some about yourself and became aware of a change you wanted/needed. ALL POSITIVE forward motions.
Rome was not built in a day and neither is getting to our ultimate "less drinking place".
Your on the right path.
Tell us how you have cut back, even if it was not a complete AF day.
YOU GOT THIS😁6 -

How awesome!!
I actually saw him at a concert when I was 15, so...1975!! Cat scratch fever : - )
That was a big show: Aerosmith, Allman Brothers, Nazareth and others. 10 bands I think, at a very big outdoor event.
You always seem to be doing fun things. Your upcoming new territory will bring even more : - )3 -
I am Dawn. I joined this thread in November of 2018
My usual goal: 16-20 AF per month.
I had 19AF days for July.
Diary style (I post the next morning)
Saturday August 20 - AF - I am sure that I can get 5 more AF days in this month to reach my AF goal.
Sunday August 21 - AF - I really felt like having drinks, but had a mock cherry sling, which felt like it was giving me the little buzz that I was looking for lol. Busy day Monday, so it was best to be AF. I may have a couple of cocktails Tuesday night after work.
Monday August 22 - AF - Long workday with my 2 jobs, felt like having drinks (like usual) afterward, but didn't. My waistline (and weight) sure does reduce after AF days.
Rolling total: 13AF days out of 22 days4 -
Hello to everyone!
Well the tub surround acrylic "marble" walls are up. Now I just need to have the vanity and toilet hooked up then we can finish the bathroom! The rest of the work will be on us to finish. Which is ok. I will be back at it after my stint at the fair.
Ooooh summer concerts I love them. We (have not been in years) would go to a place they call the gorge. It is set at the top of a bluff overlooking the Columbia river. At sunset OMG.
AF last night but my weight is creeping up. It is late night snacking not the alcohol that is doing me in this time. I know I can get that under control.
@MissMay when to you pack up and leave for your new adventure? Doing the U-Haul thing or let the pro's pack you up? Have a place in mind or are you going to wing it? hehe inquiring minds want to know (besides I am nosy)
@Womona I have been told I need to up my protein too! I have lost site of tracking my food. So you have inspired me to get back in and do so.
waving to everyone, back in a day or so

Hey Team! August is challenging for me since every single weekend is packed full with either friends/family visiting or us traveling to see them.
Goal: 16 AF days for the month; no more than 7 in a week.
8/15 M - Drinks - Last day with our guests.
8/16 Tu - Drinks
8/17 W - AF
8/18 Th - Drinks
8/19 F - Drinks - Hanging out with family in NC for the weekend
8/20 Sa - Drinks
8/21 Su - Drinks - Celebrated MIL's 93rd birthday
8/22 M - AF - Home again, home again, jiggity-jig ... well you know the rest (lol)
8/23 Tu - Drinks - Had 2 glasses of wine at dinner. We're heading out for a camping trip on Thursday. I'm not going to meet my goals this month but I'm finding that tracking is still extremely helpful.
Rolling total: 5 AF out of 23 days,5 -
This thread has been a game changer for me and I sincerely appreciate every one of you!
I joined in July 2022 and it has already made a big impact!
8/1-8/7: 5 AF out of 7
8/8-8/14: 5 AF out of 7
8/15-8/21: 6 AF out of 7
Rolling total 16 AF out of 21
8/22: AF Back to work yesterday and it was as bad as everything I stayed up the night before worrying about. I need a life coach to get me away from this job. Sorry, just feeling sorry for myself this morning.
8/23: AF
I thought not drinking was supposed to make you happier?7 -

@lmlmrn
How fun that you are working the fair again!
I somehow get emails about what is happening at the Gorge, they get big concerts there!
Every time I try to get more protein I get too much fat. Nuts have more fat than protein, as do eggs and most meats. I will be interested to hear how those of you upping your protein make your choices.4 -

Tuesday August 23 - 2 drinks, felt like a 3rd but knew that would be too much. Enjoyed the flavour and my little "buzz". 7 days to get 3 more AF days in, pretty sure that I can do it.
Rolling total: 13AF days out of 23 days3 -
My goal for Monday and Tuesday was AF. I ended up drinking both days at golf. On the bright side I have not been drinking while home alone. I have easily gone 30 days without alcohol before, but I am really struggling to get back on the AF train. At least I am keeping my commitment to post!

Goal is to go AF the rest of the month! I would be thrilled if that happens.
Thank you all for your support!5 -
Well I was AF last night and Monday. But my AF days will be less than 20 this month. No excuses it is all me and my choices.
Why is it alcohol does tend to take up too much head space as it was put so nicely a few posts back
@joans1976 what type of work do you do? look under the ICF or International Coaching Federation .. org. See if they can offer you some discounted coaching. To be a member coaches need to log x-amount of hours. They need subjects, or they have in the past. Worth a look into maybe.
I am still fussing/coordinating finishing the remodel. My guy to install toilet & vanity is ....I get the feeling.....his heart is no longer in it. I am about to move in another direction to finish this up. They have delayed this project now for weeks. Thankfully they have not been paid in full either.

@lmlmrn I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician. I work remotely transcribing for the owner of the practice. I transcribe her in person appointments and her virtual appointments. She sees about 200 patients a week. I also handle all of her follow up care and her chronic cases so I spend a lot of time on the phone with owners going over lab results and future care plans. It's a laugh a minute, let me tell ya. I started working remotely in 2020 and would like to keep it that way. I REALLY appreciate the coaching recommendation and plan to look into it this weekend. Thank you!
@dawnbgethealthy I hear you on the fat content. I have my calorie count under control but my macros are all over the place. Most days I dont sweat it because I can only concentrate on watching so many factors of my health at a time or I will get burnt out. I try to hit my protein goal and watch my sodium intake. I cashews. Hows your sleep nowadays by the way?
@Breathe57103 We are glad you are here and posting everyday. Your honesty is admirable.5 -
Made it through the day AF. I stayed home this evening which makes it easier. Right now, while dealing with my grief, I feel like I am only able to socialize if I am drinking alcohol. It helps to set aside my sadness and forget everything for a few hours. I know that isn't helping me heal and I need to let myself acknowledge my feelings.
Goal tomorrow is another AF day.

** 8/25 plan AF6 -
Monday & Tuesday all day I looked for potential vacations online and talking to travel agents ... trying to plan something for September. Well let's just say I was unsuccessful and last minute you can't book what we were trying to do. On Tuesday DH was having anxiety about the $$ and being retired with no income flowing and then me planning travel that was expensive. So he took off and returned with 6 bottles of expensive wine (cheapest bottle was $25). Then my sister came over unexpectedly for dinner Tues night as well so a couple of bottles were opened. I should have had 1 glass of each bottle but I'm pretty sure that DH refilled my glass once so calling it 3. The good news is that I did not polish off the bottles (my sister did that) and I left my glass for DH to drink as I went to get a glass of water as we sat around talking at the table after dinner.
AF again Wed night! I was in a training class for volunteer teaching ESL again this fall. Looks like DH did not open another bottle while I was out. So that is a win too.
August accountability: 10 days AF
Alcohol: 14 days (30 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
8/1 - AF
8/2 - 2 wine
8/3 - 3 wine
8/4 - 1 beer; Passed on the open 1.5 bottles of wine available to me during dinner and drank sparkling water instead. The old me would have said you blew the day and can’t count it as AF so go ahead and have wine with dinner. But I decided to just be accountable and move on.
8/5 - 3 wine
8/6 - 1 wine
8/7 - 2 wine; Great late lunch out with friends where I remained AF followed by a dinner of just wine & cheese with DH & my sister
8/8 - AF; babysat granddaughter while DIL took her mom to the ER. Returned home at 1:30am
8/9 - AF @ 🍓🍽
8/10 - 3 wine
8/11 - 2 wine
8/12 - 2 wine
8/13 - AF; 1 Clausthaler Original Non-Alcoholic beer
8/14 - 2 wine
8/15 - AF @ 📚
8/16 - AF
8/17 - AF @ 📚
8/18 - 2 wine
8/19 - AF
8/20 - 2 wine
8/21 - 2 wine
8/22 - AF
8/23 - 3 wine
8/24 - AF

@sarah7591 - We've all come a long way. Some have lots of practice and others still have their training wheels on. Me I couldn't even count or remember the number of drinks I had each night nor the last time I had an AF evening back in 2018 when I found this thread during a Christmas break. Now I can claim "some" AF days each month and "usually" I keep it to 2 drinks each evening ... but I'm not perfect. None of us are. But it is wonderful to have someone to help chat through our own ups and down.
Thanks for checking in again this month! Keep looking for the small changes ... like maybe a water after each drink ... that too is less alcohol! Whatever your goal ... make it simple and feel the accomplishment of making the steps.
Good luck! And come back to post often.4 -
@MissMay - I'm nosy too LOL We want to hear your plans for this transition.
The concert sounds like a blast last weekend and especially after selling your home!4 -
Thought for the day ...

Hey peeps
I have been AF on M-T-W since getting back from my concert weekend.
My husband...not so much. Family mega DRAMA on his side with the death of his Father. Why do families choose to cause trouble while planning a funeral???? No wonder I have kept my distance from that dark side.🤐
Yes @lmlmrn getting a PODS container dropped here so we pack it ourselves and they will store it in Florida and/or deliver to our new location when we get there.
More AF days ahead for clarity. No one needs fuzzy or even slightly hung over when packing up thier lives.
💪be strong!

@Lilylady3k how interesting that your husband quelled his anxiety about money by spending $150-200 on wine.
As I told my college age son, don’t burn through all the money you saved this summer by blowing it all on beer. You’d be literally pissing your money away. I think the same thing applies here!7 -
I had one glass of wine last night, and because I’m eating more food, it was a tasty addition to dinner instead of getting me tipsy. I was able to stop at one, no problem.
I’m not too worked up about increasing fat by eating more protein. Our brains need fat to function. Rather get that from a nice juicy steak than a candy bar!
I have a serving of cashews before my workout, eggs, some kind of lunch meat for lunch and meat with dinner. I find that chicken breast has the least amount of fat, but oh Lord I can’t eat that every day. So I’m ok with my husband’s homemade burgers or some sausage. The only pure protein that doesn’t also have either fat or carbs is egg whites. I also look for protein content in things like cereal (for example, Special K has 6g, add milk and it doubles. )
Tonight is wine night at work, and my husband is cooking dinner.5 -

August AF days: 15. My husband joined me in going AF about 10 of those days.
7 days left. I need to make them count!
I do follow a protein+ veg diet only because protein turns my hunger off and the veg gives me volume so my tummy feels full. I do try to keep it under 20g each time because I read the body can only use so much and it's ideal to consume it 20 min-1 hr after exercise. Overeat protein and it will be stored, like anything else.
My go-to proteins:
egg whites with salsa
canned tuna zero fat or low fat greek yogurt jumbo shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce natural & low sodium turkey slices
steak or hamburger of course, grass fed, most fat squeezed out (try to limit to 1x a week)
I go vegetarian 2-3x a week. When I do, with dinner, I eat foods like:
peas
lentils
black beans (yummy with green chilis)
gluten free pasta made with quinoa
chili
bean soups
NOTE: I do not lose weight unless I move throughout the day. My hormones sense when I am sedentary and goes into store mode - whether I am fasting or eating protein or on a diet or not. In fact, most of the items I lost weight was when I ate anything but moved all day long.6 -

8/24 W - Drinks
8/25 Th - Heading out today for a long weekend camping with our son and friends. Yay! It won't be AF but I plan to limit the daily intake. I am taking a surprisingly good NA IPA that I found.
Rolling total: 5 AF out of 24 days3 -
@joans1976
Thanks for asking about my sleep. I have had sleep issues since I was a little girl, too busy of a brain. It is what it is.
@lmlmrn
I bought some bitters at the gin tasting place, mostly because I remembered you talking about them.
You are getting very close to finishing your house projects : - )
@Lilylady3k
Yes, those 6 bottles of expensive wine would have funded quite a bit of the holiday that you were trying to plan. One whole month without any booze probably would have paid for the entire trip. Quite interesting that your DH is worried about the cost of the trip yet is freely spending money on something that is not creating memories like a trip could, and only has fleeting effects. I totally get that you would not be wanting to have a fight by showing actual numbers to him, but your own priorities are being put on the back burner because of it. Where were you hoping to go on travels?3
