I have recorded the Queen’s funeral but have not had a chance to watch it yet.
I have been out both nights so far this week and will be again tomorrow night.
3 nights is probably 1 night too many to do something during the week, but my former coworker that just left asked me last week if she could take me out for supper for my birthday. I had agreed. Last night was unplanned, but I ended up having supper with Rodg unexpectedly so I’m not complaining.
Tomorrow night is ceramics.
Heather - sorry your window can’t be fixed. I would be upset too.
Rosemarie- I hope you get to go swimming soon.
For those of you that remember, I took swim lessons and ended my last lesson just before I injured my hip. I am finally feeling that my hip could handle a very small amount of swimming and then start building up. Now I’m nervous, I’ve forgotten how.
Kelly - I’m glad you are going to have a checkup. I don’t know how those of you in the States handles the financial worry when there is a medical need.
I was thinking today, I think there are online lessons from Microsoft or Microsoft Certified that can be purchased too. I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure there are.
Rita - congratulations on 1005 days.
Mary - have a great trip home.
Michele - I don’t know if I could decorate as much as you, it takes a lot of work and dedication. I sure enjoy seeing houses all done up though.
I have and still am crying about house repairs. If it was just me, I think I would go back to renting again.
My Grandfather was a huge popcorn person. So is my Son in Law.
I don’t know why I don’t eat it more.
Barbie - sorry to read about Bernie.
I am up way past my bedtime. I should say good night.

Shake the sugar challenge: not meeting it but finding it leading me to be more mindful of my choices. e.g. today when I splurged on a BLAT sandwich, instead of having a coke that would have gone so very very well with it, chose an iced tea. Did I add 2 tsp sugar? Yup. Was that around 8 tsp fewer than the coke would have had? Yup again.
Dark tonight coming back from line dance class. Ugh I do NOT like these shorter days.
Rita brava on your streak. Hard choice, root canal vs extraction. Neither are any fun, but that meme sure is.
Debbie, understand your DH won’t yet, but could you start “couples” counseling without him? Sounds like he’s in a very bad way and you may need some more coping tools. otters.
Karen please share pics of whatever you devise for extra narrower shelving.
Pip, what, you don’t think you really did 210 m/hr? Whooshing good thoughts for tomorrow’s cataract surgery. Stunning streak.
Annie popcorn for dinner, one of my faves!
Barbie ((hugs)) ((hugs)) Bernie’s been with you a long time. ((hugs))

Soo, today was low on protein, have plenty of calorie allotment for a bowl of yoghurt, but I’m yawning. Will I eat now? Or go to bed and see if I wake with the hungries? Who knows?

Barbie - So sorry about Bernie. Losing my cats were some of the worst episodes of my childhood. I hope it all goes gently and calmly and you have a chance to grieve and honour your beloved.
Yesterday I came across, in my Memory Box, a prize I won when I was 9 years old, for writing a criticism of a Theatre for Youth production of Alice in Wonderland. I remember being called to the headmaster's study and thinking I had done something wrong. I found I had won the county prize! I chose 'The Observer's Book of Cats'. So I was well up on cat breeds when I was young. When we moved to Horsham, not long after, we got my true love, Oscar, a Sealpoint Siamese. His birthday was October 14th. The same as Cliff Richards.
Quiet day today. DH at cricket. I have to post a birthday card to my friend L. Make a dinner that can be eaten at two different times.
Yesterday I was a bit off-course and ate far too much. A little mini down day, with Bea as the bright part. I will get back on track today. The Memory Box is essential work, but can cause me to descend. It has been interesting to see the old binge eating habit revive! My old journals are a spiral of self doubt and self-recrimination. I recognise myself in them, but I am so grateful I have moved on and now have a more balanced perspective on life. She is still within me, but I can comfort her.

One of the things I have done most of my life is to avoid drinking my calories .... unless I am on a really long bicycle ride and drinking a coke or Canadian iced tea is about the only source of energy my stomach can tolerate.
I drink plain water, black coffee, unsweetened tea, and diet beverages.
I won't say "black tea" because that suggests literally black tea ... I tend to drink rooibos and chamomile teas but without sugar or milk.
Not drinking my calories leaves me more to eat so I am not as hungry.
And (coincidence maybe?) I have been slim most of my life.

I've been thinking about the Queen.
She was "on duty" ... working ... for 70 years, until the age of 96.
Meanwhile, here I am at 55, wishing I could retire because I am so tired and wish I could spend much more time doing things I like.
So I wonder how she did it.
She had staff, of course, so she wouldn't have had the same long Things To Do list I've got. She wouldn't have had to worry about laundry, housecleaning, etc. She wouldn't have had to research to determine which is the best insurance, or make a trip to top up her bus card, or to mail letters. In fact, she would have NOT had most of my Things To Do list - that would have helped.
But I'm sure she would have had events, meetings, documents to sign, etc. at all hours of the day.
I think I'd like to read a book about how her days went. How she organised herself so that she was able to incorporate rest. What she did to rest. Things like that. I don't know if that sort of book exists.

My day has been much, much better ! I think identifying why I was feeling low really helped. Amazing how all those associations brought me down and how I didn't see it at the time. Duh!
Plus I washed my hair! It always lifts my mood.
Plus I slept last night.
Plus, I started the day, while I was exercising, with two really excellent podcasts. One that might really interest this group is one by Dr Rangan Chatterjee. His podcast is called Feel Better, Live More. It covers loads of health topics, some of them conflict with each other (of course!!), but today's was of special interest to our age group.
#296 The Critical Importance of Strength Training and Eating More Protein, with Dr Gabrielle Lyon.
She specialises in geriatric and end of life, but the message is for everyone, especially older women.
I found it fascinating and I think it will change my exercise regime a bit and perhaps some of my diet. I know some of you enjoy my podcast recommendations. I listen on Spotify.
Been out to post my card to L and I've done 40 extra squats so far! Good dose of king prawns in an oriental soup for lunch and lamb curry with spinach and peas is in the IP. Yummo!

I've been to get my Covid & Flu vaccinations the morning.
I didn't sleep well last night because of thinking about my brother, so I finally turned on my computer and filled out the complaint form to Social Services about the group home he is in. I had been avoiding it because I was afraid it might get him kicked out, but his LCSW said to go ahead and do it, because the more authorities know what is going on, the less likely he will be kicked out without due process. So I filled out the form and will send the last letter I wrote over the weekend to the group home owner, as well as the DHHS inspector for this particular home. It is a licensed home, which makes it better for us, as they have to follow certain mandated guidelines to stay licensed.
Going to shut my eyes for 20 minutes and then start in on the downsizing task at hand.

Barbie so sad to say goodbye to Bernie the cat. Wishing you comfort as you grieve.
Pip hope your cataract surgery goes well!
Popcorn is the best! I never heard of hulless. Thanks Debbie! Amazing that you can grow your own.
Just groceries and laundry today. And see what I need to get shots. But I got a new book from Amazon. I'm studying Sara Paretsky/V. I. Warshawski as inspiration for my writing. Such fun to read!
And I need to get back on the yoga kick. I was exercising daily for a while there but the last month I have fallen by the wayside. Now my jeans are tight and the scale is scaring me.

Hi Gals!
Kelly – good job to make that appointment
Tracey - the financial worry for health care is huge for many of us. I feel lucky to have insurance right now, but know I could lose it at any moment, as mine is part of a government plan that could be changed or eliminated at the whim of a politician. It is part of why myself and some of my friends who are lower income, have come to terms with earlier death than might because in some cases we can’t afford the preventive care.
Barbie - sending hugs to you and Jake, I am so glad you have been able to make the hard decision to allow Bernie to pass with dignity.
Karen – so glad you were able to fill out the forms and send the letters about your brothers home. How many others there are being abused too that this may help.
Pip – best wishes on cataract surgery!!!
Heather – so sorry about the window. Any chance that the window guys were able to tell you what it might cost to have it replaced? With your writing maybe you can make enough extra to cover it.

Still rooting through my Memory Box.
I've enjoyed looking at my stamp collection from primary school. I learnt an enormous amount from collecting stamps. Shame kids don't do it nowdays.
I read through some community newspapers from 1974/5. My DSIL's death notice in there, which I must have written, and my columns about local food shops, with recipes. Interesting that so much of the newspaper was about local housing issues.
Also found the patterns for my wedding dress, which I made in a beautiful white crêpe, 1970, and another dress which I was very proud of in a grey wool. I was obviously not daunted by the difficulty of the pleats, cuffs etc.
Good day.
Hope you are OK, Barbie.

Annie- here is a picture the last year he grew popcorn.
we grew it all the time when I was a kid then he stopped growing it, not sure why, they he found an old feed sack full in the barn. Tried it, still popped and the next spring he planted it. He LOVED sharing it with everyone but also loved having a big bowl full along with a Golden Delicious apple (or a bowl of ice cream)

ENT today and laundromat. That’ll take most of the day. I need to stop and find a night guard for my teeth to help stop some of the pressure of clenching in my sleep. Dentist recommended I get one to use until we find out if insurance will pay for a custom one from dentist.

Heather, Wow, fabulous patterns! I admire that skill! I have a love hate relationship with sewing machines. I'm not very good, though with persistence I can accomplish a modest project.
Rita, You probably already know this, but there are some semi-custom bite guards that are not terribly expensive over the counter until you get your custom one. Oral B is one brand - it's about $20.
Kim, I've been so indecisive about making the complaint, but with the encouragement of the LCSW therapist at Gary's doctor's office, it was actually a great relief to share some of the worry/burden about how Gary and the other men are being treated. Gary said one of the hired help barged into the bathroom last night when one of the residents was taking a shower and a lot of cursing and yelling ensued. I told him to put his headphones on and try to steer clear. Poor guy, I can't wait to get him out of there.
Thinking of Pip with cataract surgery and Barbie with Bernie today.
___
I found some very cool pictures of movie stars like Lana Turner, James Cagney, Shirley Temple, Clark Gable, etc., in my mother's belongings - just on thin paper, but very vintage, and I think they would be desirable to some people. I was planning to take a few things to auction that I can't in good conscience sell, so I think I will make up some packets of these vintage prints to include, just for fun. I'll just take a couple of packets, and if they sell well, I'll make up a couple of more packets for future auctions. There are a lot of prints. This is pretty fun! I like sorting.

Pip--You go Girl!
Mary--What a Blessing your nephew is. Honoring God!
Katla--Good news about DH being transfered. Is it closer to where you live? Baby steps, but he is getting there.
KJ--Glad you have an appointment to have it checked out. Better to be safe than sorry later.
Annie--Glad you had a nice visit with your friend.
Barbie--Hugs as you say good by to Bernie. It is hard to lose one of our fur babies. Bless you for knowing it is time and not letting him suffer.
Getting some much needed rain and it was great to turn off the AC and open the windows. Sounds like the high this week is in the high 60's. I love Fall weather.

Barbie - so sorry about Bernie the cat.
Pip - hope the cataract surgery goes well.
KJ - glad you are getting checked out.
Really smokey here again today. I had to do a 2 minute walk today at PT and was really having trouble breathing by the end of it. It was to see how far I could walk in that amount of time. I think I need to get on the decluttering bandwagon. I have company coming for Thanksgiving and I still have a few things of my mom's I need to go through.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
I did my yoga for the first time in a few weeks. And my beginner aerobic walking video. So I am getting back on track. Yay! Now to stop eating cookies at night. I should be done eating for the day, but I will be in the kitchen making meatloaf for my parents.
Annie in Delaware4 -
Barbie - (((Barney)))).
Pip - Thinking about you and your cataract surgery, hope both go easily, with a speedy recovery.
Katla - Still here, in your pocket, my dear. Hope they're able to get your DH's move accomplished so you can see him more.
Annie - well done on the yoga and the walking video!
Heather - You're making me think about looking through my memories and photos, which I haven't done since I married Corey 13 years ago! I was divorced from my first husband in November 2008, and between that and when Corey and I married in mid-2009, I went through everything that reminded me of my previous marriage and mailed them to my ex or pitched them out. Decluttering things like furniture etc., isn't necessary because of the many moves and downsizes, but there are still lots of keepsake things that could probably be discarded or shredded. I'll keep that thought for the "think about this later" list.
Got cornbread in the oven for dinner, half plain, half Mexican (added RoTel tomatoes, drained, and shredded cheese with taco seasoning. Would have added corn, either canned or frozen, if I'd had any around.) The plain cornbread is for me, and the spicy is for Corey, who can decide if he wants chili or taco meat to go with it. I'll have pinto beans with mine, something I've been craving lately--childhood comfort food, I guess.
Note - cornbread is one of the few baked things that I've never mastered as a cook, but luckily, I found one of the best packaged mixes ever from Shawnee Mills, just requires milk and an egg. One of the few that doesn't put sugar in their mix. If you didn't know, in the South, sugar in cornbread is just as welcome as beans in chili. If there are beans in it, it's not chili. And if there's sugar in the cornbread, people think you've lost your ever-loving tiny mind.
And... an update on my daughter in spoiler:Soldiers did not look like this when I was in the military... The sheer bliss that radiates from her face, and is there in her voice in every phone call--I have no words, but I have the memory of that soaring joy when I met her dad... Utterly irresistible. Whatever my worries, I won't be sharing them. Everyone deserves to feel like this, and I'm so hoping the third time is the charm for her.
She said yes to the dress!
Love y'all!
