AF today. Worked, took a Pilates class (I have a long way to go to get back to where I was), joined Stretch Zone (cried while talking to the employee when we finished...maybe the stretching and breathing released something), now off to a massage (hope i don't blow away. Its so windy i have already retrieved a chair from the pool.) I crave physical touch so bad.
Tomorrow I will be golfing with 24 people I don't know from my housing development. Maybe I will find some new golf friends.
Ate healthy and under goal all day.

Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?

Doing some serious resting up, I feel like I could sleep for 3 days straight and still be tired.
Good news is mom doesn’t need surgery on her knee (🙏) bad news is she has to wear this monster of a brace on her leg and she is very uncomfortable. And everyone around her is going to hear about it. No driving either. Six weeks. We’ve been through worse and will definitely make it through this.5 -
@MissMay Im sorry I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday on the right day but I’m glad you had a good day! I’ve been thinking about you with hearing everything on the news and am glad you are safe.
@ahoy_m8 Welcome back! That picture you posted was lovely, if I could paint I would paint it and hang it in my living room.
You’ve touched a nerve with me on your article, I come from a long line of self medicaters (sp) who suffer from anxiety and depression.
I’m sorry to hear about your stepmom, as if leaving for vacation isn’t stressful enough! You made it though!
@forestdweller1 Happy belated to you as well! 💐4 -

I chose to drink in Sunday after saying I wouldn't which was stupid. However, back on it yesterday and will be again today.7 -
October accountability: 1 days AF
Alcohol: 2 days (4 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
10/1 - 2 wine; Girls Trip with mom & my sister to one of mom’s friend’s 90th birthday
10/2 - AF @ home
10/3 - 2 wine; last of the Joseph Drouhin Rully Wine
10/4 - Plan AF3 -
@ahoy_m8 thanks for sharing that article and your thoughts. Your idea about willpower being a limited resource really hits home for me. It does seem that way. I can feel it crumbling as the days of the week go on. Last week, in order to make my 15 days for September, I had to abstain on Friday and it was so difficult I couldn't believe it. So then my backlash happened on Saturday when the floodgates open. I do hope that M-Th becomes a habit for me so it doesn't use so much of my willpower just to make it through the week. Then maybe weekends will be less challenging. Super interesting thoughts about any drinks after one chasing off the effects of withdrawal. I always thought of it as thinking "the first one made me feel good, surely the next ones will make me feel better and better". But of course that last one can have the complete opposite effect and lead to the mindswirl and anxiety and whatever other physical effects in the middle of the night.6

@ahoy_m8 really interesting article! I’m glad non-alcoholic beer and liquor have come such a long way, even though I don’t reach for them. Gives people some good options. Alas, non-alcoholic wine may never be a successful development. “Like ripping the backbone out of the product”. Yep.
I also thought it was interesting how the feel of the glass, the ritual of opening the bottle, the setting in a cozy bar, are so important to the experience. I don’t enjoy my club soda/cranberry nearly as much if it isn’t in either a martini or a wine glass!
Speaking of which, just had one of those, which makes me AF tonight!

DH bought a dozen bottles of nice wine and opened one this evening. But I skipped tonight! I'll plan wine for tomorrow's steak night (Wed).

Had 2 beers today, but not because I was lonely or depressed. I met some great new people to golf with and played really well for me. I went off the anxiety meds the doctor put me on in July and honestly I feel so much better. I think they may have impacted me in such a way that i didn't feel the real lows or real highs. I'm just not comfortable taking them because i truly believe they contributed to my husband's suicide.
I ate healthy all day and stayed under my calorie goal.

So many "firsts" going on for us since relocating to Florida. It makes me feel younger in a silly way.
Taking our time to find the right place to settle. Right now we are staying at a Marina right on an inlet. Of course this lifestyle is short term, I lived on an "island" for 40 years before, I don't need to see water everyday(said no one ever🤣)
@Lilylady3k we had checked out margarittaville living, my goal is to rent with simplicity and not get back into the purchasing of a home.
I just literally, sold, gave away or donated over 75% of my personal belongings in the last year and a half. I came to the conclusion I did not NEED all those things and don't want to drift back into the habit of buying stuff.
Buy yes, that retirement community is 20 minutes from here and looks like a great place for parrot heads. LOL
October accountability:
3AF
1A( one chocolate gelato rum martini)6 -
@MissMay - I can understand the wish to rent not buy AND to not weigh yourself down with "stuff". Also the parrot head community might just be a little too much with the drinking but I understand they have great activities. I have friends that are moving there ... one day when they retire.
I'm still cleaning out my home "in case we move" but really after 10 years of decluttering don't think we'll move. We'll see if that changes. The good news is the special toys that I saved over the years in the attic (legos, duplos, American Girl dolls, books, etc that the kids loved) are getting pulled out for the next generation and will move to my kids homes over the next few years. This is the last of "their stuff" that I have in our home since I made them clean out their rooms the summer between high school & college.
I've been cleaning out my holiday bins as I pull them out for the season reducing the decorating headache to just the special touches that I really enjoy! Baby steps.4 -
Hello to all!
I am getting bad about posting..yikes.
The article about drinking. It was for me just like my thoughts in many ways. And like so many of us when it comes to weekend indulges. I can do great M-Th and I am finding now that weekends are usually (just) 2 what I call medium weight beers.
I have and can go without on the weekend (I managed it 1 time, really!) But I am still working n skipping that Friday, and making just a Saturday or a Sunday adventure.
But considering where I was 1.5 years ago, I have come a long way baby! From the large super sized bottle of spirits gone in a week (hubby dipped in but not as much as me) to two beers, two days a week.
Another change, it does not look like we will be selling and moving in 2023. After my mom's covid health scare and watching her slowly recover. She now has to make several trips to the grocery store a week because she is unable to carry what she needs in one trip. She calls for little things and I love doing them but I see this as her progression to needing more care. Until she is ready to go to some type of assisted living that is how things will be. I do think in 2023 she will make some changes. She will be 89 in March.
Thanks for listening, this group is such an inspiration to me.9 -
Thanks for the birthday flowers, ladies.
@lmlmrn Virtual hugs to your Mom. The after effects of covid can be long lasting.
Independence is a hard thing to give up...but have you considered using a delivery service for your Mom's shopping ? Instacart has been a game changer for me. I "splurged " on a membership to get free delivery & also discounts on other charges. Groceries, drug stores, big box stores, just make your list online & the elves leave your purchases at the door. Don't know if your Mom is friendly with computers ?? Or she could give you her lists.
Might free you up to do more fun things with her, like hair appointments, or take her to lunch.
Good to hear that your local liquor store is missing your business. 😭
Getting more "days" from a bottle of wine than I used to...couple 4 ounce glasses & the cork goes back in. 😇

I couldn’t face cold club soda tonight, so I opted for a glass of red wine instead- all of this after a long, busy day at work. I didn’t even enjoy it. I felt the effects after 4 sips and didn’t like the feeling, plus I didn’t even enjoy the taste. Huh. That’s a new one for me!8

AF today. Stayed under goal for calories, 1 hour Pilates class, 1 hour Stretch Zone, flu shot, and got my 10,000 steps wrapped up waiting for my car to get done with oil change. Genuinely feel content today. Taking off early in the morning for New Mexico. Looking forward to loving on 2 of my grandbabies.

@MissMay Chocolate gelato rum martini That made me smile. One of the things I remember from when I've posted before is that I've almost never heard of the cocktails you order

2 glasses of wine with steak dinner as planned.
Trying to target 3 nights AF this week which seems to be harder than I planned. There just isn't enough days in the week! LOL Targeting Tues, Thurs, Sat this week. Thinking through it and what I have on tap social wise ... my plan is to have a drink with friends Friday night but then skip on the beer & other stuff while watching LSU & celebrating my son's birthday during lunch on Saturday. His wife is buying a mini keg from a German beer garden that he really wanted to go to for his birthday but with the little ones it is best to let them have space to crawl and comfy area to sleep during the game. Babysitting the littlest one that evening so if I can make it through the game & celebration I'm good to go for an AF Saturday.3 -

New psychiatrist today! I’m hopeful/nervous/wary. This will be the first time I can go in 5 years and confidently say I am not drinking. I have to get help for my anxiety, it’s consuming my life!7 -
This is my third week of AF weeknights and it feels like it's getting easier. Hopefully having the weeknights get easier will help me keep things under control during weekends. It wasn't my plan to implement dry weeknights, and I will be flexible depending on social activities, but I'm loving how easy this week has been. Obviously the weekend is staring me in the face, but we have so many kid-friendly/driving plans that it would be hard to go too far off the rails. I love love love this time of year. I think we're nearing peak foliage here and it's just the best. I live in the Appalachian mountains in SW VA and it's mesmerizing to take in the views. I lived in Colorado for a while and the gold hues were beautiful but I really missed all the other colors leaves could be. To take advantage, we're going hiking with the kids tomorrow, Saturday going to a pumpkin patch with great views, and Sunday going to a potluck at the farm we get our CSA from. I'm also sneaking out this afternoon for a mountain bike ride with a friend (I love working from home!). Hope everyone has or has had a lovely Thursday

Happy Birthday to all the peeps with Oct. Birthdays!
I have no clue where you all get your energy! Send it all my way please....... you are all doing amazing super cool stuff, flying off to Italy or move to a Gulf Coast resort town, landing in AZ to only to turn around and drive to New Mexico, Andy is jetting off to Malta. And Dawn is somewhere on a tropical island.
I feel so boring!! Oh well, logged 5 AF days for the books but today after working so many 12-14 hrs days straight, caved and hit the pinot grigio. The whole bottle.
Fun and self-care is in order this weekend.....I am going to pressure my husband to drive me to Sedona.

@pezhead your upcoming weekend sounds fantastic! Have a great time doing all those fun activities surrounded by beautiful scenery!
@Breathe57103 your upcoming weekend sound amazing too! Enjoy!!!
@globalhiker I am boring with you! No plans at all for the foreseeable future- except tomorrow we take the boat out of the water for the season. So, basically chores this weekend. Sigh.
One glass of wine last night for “wine night” at work. This one went down much easier!5
