Less Alcohol ~ OCTOBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

Hello to everyone
@forestdweller1 My mom is not tech savvy in the least. The conundrum is many times she 'doesn't ' know what she wants to cook i.e. frozen dinners until she looks them all over. She has no laptop, her phone is very basic....she can not even respond to a text message. She can read it but can't respond, no matter how many times we show her, write the steps down blah blah. She has no interest. So hence .... our roadblock.
I did go out for lunch and a beer on Wednesday afternoon. But that was ok. Planned drinks on Saturday and possibly Sunday. Family is coming for dinner and I may have a glass of wine with my mother. This will be her first time able to come to my house and see the remodeling.
I started a new exercise routine. I enjoy lifting and really got away from it these past 6 months. This week was my first week back and I struggled all 4 days. But hopefullly next week will see if I can make it without the soreness. Once I achieve that I will increase the weight and/or reps.
@MissMay we need to seriouly edit our belongings but now is not the time for me to suggest to DH. He is stressed enough closing the business and prepping the building for sale. Of course it does not help we have homeless now living in front (2 RV's and a car...all the belongings between the sidewalk and street.) We call 311 daily along with all the other business. Environmental services have a deaf ear to our plights.
And gee wonder why we want out of here?7 -
"Good Evening, Channel 1212 viewers, welcome to another segment of our "Help Your Hood Series", neighbors helping neighbors keep our town safe and beautiful. This evening we are spotlighting an ongoing issue affecting BlahBlah Heights business district. Some of our less fortunate residents have established an "encampment" on Avenue A, unfortunately creating a situation that is not welcoming to the customers of said businesses. After countless calls to local authorities, including 311, nothing has been done to aid the homeless in this area, or to relieve the stress on the business owners. Now, we will present on air interviews with some of the business owners and their former customers. O #1 *kitten*-MOAN O #2 WHIMPER-SOB C #1 COMPLAIN-COMPLAIN C #2 fearful-fearful
We have reached out, but had no response from Town leaders...This is Ron Burgundy, signing off , still waiting."

Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?

Doing some serious resting up, I feel like I could sleep for 3 days straight and still be tired.

New psychiatrist today! I’m hopeful/nervous/wary. This will be the first time I can go in 5 years and confidently say I am not drinking. I have to get help for my anxiety, it’s consuming my life!

Maybe some self care today after work. Or maybe just a nap.6 -
@forestdweller1 I was laughing so hard I had to call my DH while he is driving to 'said business' to read him your post. Thank you for lighting up my day.
Yesterday ...was not a planned drink day but we went out and had dinner plus 2 light beers. I almost look at the beers and almost not alcoholic compared to spirits. ... What an interesting take/twist your brain will do to feed the monster and justify the behavior.
Today had a chit chat with my sister about our 'non' move right now. Anyway she did point out that I can't put my life on hold (true) for the what will/might happen in the future. It seems to almost paralyze me. But then I have to be hopeful that it will all work out in the end. The plan moving forward will be after the new year find a part time job while DH winds the business down. The no income for several months is a bit scary but doable. The part time work is just enough to cover the home improvement loan until we sell the business building. I just don't want to dip into our savings for that. Plus the extra income will be fun.
Todays plan? Self care and a long hike....which in my head is self care.4 -
@lmlmrn It sounds like a rational and well considered plan. And exciting! What kind of part time work interests you?
Well, drink less friends, there is something that makes it pretty easy to stay AF. Covid. I do not recommend it. I suspect the packed 11.5 hour flight from Rome, but you never really know. No one on the flight wore a mask, including me. Wish I had but too late now. I had my 4th booster 2 weeks before the trip hoping to be "peak antibody" which I guess kinda worked because I wasn't sick on the trip. Tested positive 4 weeks after getting the 4th booster. DH had his 4th booster in May and he has not had a single symptom, thankfully.
For me it has felt like 1 day sore throat (covid test negative that day)+4 days flu (tested next day for flu and got the covid positive). I feel better on 6th day, more like a mild cold, but did test positive again this morning. Such a bummer. Never a good time to be sick. Wrecks lots of plans.
Stay safe out there.6 -
HI everybody.
Finally catching up reading all of your posts.
I have been way too busy since getting back from my trip, and got Mexico sick on the last day there and for 6 days. Yeah, immodium for flights and stuff, but once finally home I just rode it out.
I went back to work on Monday feeling kind of drained, but had hugely long exhausting days all week and it looks like all of October will be that way. I may only get on here to post on weekends.
Happy birthday to @MissMay and @forestdweller1
@Womona
Probably sad to be taking the boat out of the water until next summer.
@lmlmrn
I really like the idea of fencing off the area as a construction zone. Can you easily get a permit for construction to post?
@ahoy_m8
Oh my gosh, that photo that you posted really stirred me. Evocative.
@Breathe57103
You are inspiring to me with the choices that you are making about how you are spending your time since moving. Self care. Really glad that you made some new golf buddies.
I realize how difficult this has all been for you, but you are doing all of the right things.

Hi : - )
I am Dawn.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I joined this group in November 2018, and had my very first AF day in many many years then.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days per month, and have maintained that for a few years until September of this year when I had only 14AF days (couldn't resist the daily Margaritas in Mexico I guess).
I do this diary style.
Saturday October 01 - Drinks
Sunday October 02 - AF
Monday October 03 - Drinks
Tuesday October 04 - AF
Wednesday October 05 - AF
Thursday October 06 - AF
Friday October 07 - Drinks - Planning on drinks for Saturday also and then AF most weekdays for next week except for maybe one. If I stick to 4AF days per week I can reach my goal of 16AF days for the month. Monday is a holiday here (Thanksgiving) but I am working a split shift that day (stat pay) so I will be AF Sunday night.
Rolling total: 4AF days out of 7 days.5 -

This is my third week of AF weeknights and it feels like it's getting easier. Hopefully having the weeknights get easier will help me keep things under control during weekends. It wasn't my plan to implement dry weeknights, and I will be flexible depending on social activities, but I'm loving how easy this week has been. Obviously the weekend is staring me in the face, but we have so many kid-friendly/driving plans that it would be hard to go too far off the rails. I love love love this time of year. I think we're nearing peak foliage here and it's just the best. I live in the Appalachian mountains in SW VA and it's mesmerizing to take in the views. I lived in Colorado for a while and the gold hues were beautiful but I really missed all the other colors leaves could be. To take advantage, we're going hiking with the kids tomorrow, Saturday going to a pumpkin patch with great views, and Sunday going to a potluck at the farm we get our CSA from. I'm also sneaking out this afternoon for a mountain bike ride with a friend (I love working from home!). Hope everyone has or has had a lovely Thursday
Progress

Thank you, @pezhed, I can very much feel that serenity you describe... I appreciate your positivity and glad you can enjoy fall in this magical way. It's a reminder to me that I need to focus more on the positive in my life and maybe let go of all the things I can't fix.5 -
Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?
10/1-10/7: AF
10:8: AF By the skin of my teeth! I’m not sure what happened but I went to the store and bought vodka and a mixer. Brought it home, chilled it and then didn’t drink it because I was afraid of the hangover! 🤷🏻♀️6 -

10/8 - AF ; Offered drinks at both lunch and in the evening. LSU game & son’s birthday party they had a mini keg from a local brewery and my sister brought a pitcher of orange cosmos which is a favorite of mine starting around 11am. I tried Betty Buzz Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Lemon Lime and liked it very much in a special glass. In the evening SIL gave us a bottle of wine to go with pizza while we babysat. DH stopped at 2 glasses and I decided to stick with water.

@joans1976 - Fear of hangover can be a great incentive! Congrats on not drinking it ONLY BECAUSE you bought it and it was chilled & ready.
My incentive yesterday was taking care of my daughter's little 3 month old girl for 6 hrs for the first time and not wanting to fall asleep on the job! Plus the long drive home at 11pm. I can't remember the last time I was out that late and not drinking. Guess grandparenting will give me some new incentive.5 -

Wow went totally off the rails yesterday evening.
We had our beer at lunch (planned) then that evening I don't know what devil perched on my shoulder whispered in my ear but 1/2 bottle of wine and 2 oz of whiskey. This am weight up 1.5lb, feel bloaty and have family coming over for dinner. sheesh.
Ok moving on7 -
I see many of you are doing the AF weekdays and not overdoing it on the weekends... this sounds like a good plan to me. So here I go, for this week I am planning to stay AF Sun-Thu. If I can stick this plan, hopefully I will not only feel better in the mornings, but see the scale moving in the right direction!6

Yes, I am inspired by that too.
@Stockholm_Andy is the perfect example of how much weight you can lose if you just lose the booze!
@Lilylady3k has good incentive for AF nights, looking after a 3 month old baby and having to drive.
I am thinking that it might be harder during retirement (if I ever can retire) to not drink for me, since a busy workweek has been my motivator.
I do not have children or grandchildren, so your post about not wanting them to see you as an alcoholic doesn't really apply to me, but sounds like a very good motivator.
Our society conditions us to celebrate every occasion with drinks.
Keeping a drinking crowd out of our lives is a good idea, and sets an example for others.
I like that @MissMay made some new friends and then promptly dropped them after it became apparent that they were the latter.
Pics please @MissMay
@globalhiker
Love what you said about enjoying the positive stuff and letting go of the stuff that we can't control. Easier said than done, but a good goal. I still keep trying to fix things that affect me negatively in the work world. In my personal life I have learned how to avoid negative people.

Feeling overwhelming sadness, but the thought of drinking alcohol to combat it never crossed my mind. Previously all feelings (happy, sad, bored) were a reason to drink. I guess that's progress.

Sunday October 09 - AF - Made a beautiful AF Cherry Daquiri, 5 calories.
Rolling total: 5AF days out of 9 days. .4 -
Family dinner over. Was a lot of fun and game playing. Over the course of 7 hours 1 glass of wine with dinner.
Today back to M-thur and maybe friday AF. We will see. I am happy with my progress. I kinda feel like I need to take a bit of a pause of being so hard on myself if I have a drink. I am going to think of it as an adjustment period then I will work on the next phase. AF Sun-Fri consistently.
I have also started a new weight regime so that is going to help. Can't workout if sluggish from the night before.
As for finding a job at the first of the year. I honestly just want to find a no brainier part time maybe 25/30 hours per week. I have had the high pressure 80 hour work weeks and I am only looking for enough 'fun' money while we transition from DH income to no income while we try and sell the building (including the unwanted guests). That was basically like my work with the fair. No real brainier. Take money, give ticket and make change. And the fun of people watching. Saw it all, the side hustler, the too cool to be a teen, the geriatric scammer, oh the fun I had.
ok off for now
