@globalhiker Well, since you asked, 62 days, 2 hours, 10 minutes!!! Lol I have a countdown on my phone!2

@joans1976 ...if your swim suit choices disappoint...EVEN AFTER A 46 POUND WEIGHT LOSS...[aye, caramba !!] ...then snag a lacy or semi sheer cover up & plunge right into the water...those who judge you don't know you...and you are probably your worst critic....ignore that *kitten*....
Not doing as well as I wanted to with moderation...and what's new about that ?? Hoping that Eldest Daughter will spend a few months in Da'Burgh during a transition from Louisiana to Maine this winter. She's just not someone that I want to be drinking around. Not judgemental, just...."and ???" Middle Daughter got the family "drinking gene" and stopped completely during one of the years that I stopped. She "knows, not knows", that I began depleting my wine cellar again and that's something I would prefer to not discuss with her. Ignorance is bliss ??
Wine is like a bad boy friend. Can't stay with him. Can't quit him.

@sarah7591 Its literally called “Countdown” and it has a star with a clock in the middle. Free.
@forestdweller1 I was just feeling sorry for myself the other day and it was the kick in the pants I needed to get myself to workout more. Losing 46 pounds has way more benefits to cancel out how I look in one swimsuit from Amazon. Thank you for the kind words.
If moderation isn’t working, have you tried stopping for awhile in the past? It sounds like you have.4 -
October accountability: 6 days AF
Alcohol: 10 days (26.5 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
10/16 - 1 wine with steak; DH too only had 1 glass5 -
Hi : - )
I am Dawn.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I joined this group in November 2018, and had my very first AF day in many many years then.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days per month, and have maintained that for a few years until September of this year when I had only 14AF days (couldn't resist the daily Margaritas in Mexico I guess).
I do this diary style.
Friday October 14 - Drinks - I was almost euphoric finally finishing work for the week last night. My short term tenant finished his 6 weeks of schooling and also left yesterday. I felt so happy and free. This weekend I will be digging potatoes after pulling all of the rest of my peppers and tomatoes. I am hoping to have one more week before digging up all of my carrots and beets. The house will get cleaned some other time
Saturday October 15 - Drinks - Made a good dent in the yard, many hours left to do
Sunday October 16 - AF - Continued working on the gardens, time is running out before a hard freeze expected to begin next weekend. Prioritizing certain things, beets and carrots will have to wait. I won't get much time during the work week.
Rolling total: 10AF days out of 16 days.5 -
Housing hunting is EXHAUSTING!
Good news is, its over! Signed on small town house Friday. Will close on the deal and start moving in October 24th. Decided to just take the plunge and buy instead of rent. Rentals are a night mare around here.
Anyhow, never said I was perfect or close to it. Friday night I went drink crazy with celebrating. Did not get hangover or ill. I only felt disappointed in myself for having WAY more than my 2 drink limit. 6 was shameful. No excuse.
On the other chat going on here. YES we can still wear 2 piece bathing suits in our 60's.

I FINALLY made it to 3AF days in October Which means 14 days drinking....The sales conference in Malta left me with a very happy sales team but a fairly sad Liver
Will post some picture of Malta when I get chance it's a lovely place.
Now I fly off to Frankfurt tomorrow so more drinking...
Couple of quick things.
1. Last month was so much easier once I committed to a full month of not drinking. Trying to be good for the odd day is much harder for me. I should have stayed clear Saturday/Sunday but I didn't. At least I did tonight.
2. My mood (wellness!?!) was much better last month when I didn't drink at all. I suddenly noticed myself being more down during the day when drinking again (after a week of drinking) I'm fine while I'm actually drinking, I'm a blast in fact It was a weird feeling, it was familiar, but not something I had consciously noticed before. Maybe another reason to take longer breaks. Its odd to admit this BTW, even to people I don't know as I'm probably your typical repressed middle aged man
Good luck all and I'll try and check in even if I'm not AF this week.8 -

@Stockholm_Andy Nice to hear from you! I feel like you live an exciting life, always jetting off to somewhere! As I’m sure you’ve read here, moderation is harder for most than stopping altogether. I know it is for me. Maybe as humans we just like routine so much, having a drink or five at the end of the day seems natural. Alcohol is definitely a depressant and kudos to you for noticing as opposed to brushing it off. We like repressed middle aged men around here, so feel free to share! Enjoy Frankfurt!8
-
@Stockholm_Andy - Oh I remember those work trips well where the alcohol flowed and I had a wonderful time along with everyone else with me. The next day the mornings weren't that difficult because I guess I was just use to it too. Either that or I was still tipsy for the entire trip. I TOTALLY agree ... moderation is much harder than knowing ahead that I'm not drinking. Guess that is why we are here years later. Just as I feel I have this ... I too slipped on Friday in a social situation fundraiser at that LOL and had way more than I would if I had gone in like some that only started drinking wine when luncheon was served. Should of, could of but didn't.
Good luck with your next trip and hopefully finding the moderation that makes you feel good about yourself and everything around you.
Work story ... that I still find hilarious. I was hosting an event in Vegas and held tons of drink tickets during and after the private Jay Leno stand up and then Pat Benatar concert. One of my customers from a very notable company in Norway roped me into a fun game. When I ordered a drink he said "2" as he did with everyone else walking up and had me throw down an extra drink ticket. I asked what was up. He said just wait for it. So we ordered 2 of everything for about 30-40 people and kept one of the glasses. Then we moved ALL the glasses over to a table near the exit door. When the lights indicated the event was over ... we handed a "to go drink" out to anyone that wanted one which were happily accepted by many. No one cared what drink they got at that point they just were happy to have a fresh drink. LOL
A few of my customers were heading out afterward and I declined their invitation ... they were out until 5am. I knew I couldn't keep up with that crowd though I tried before they left.

@MissMay - Rentals have gone through the roof in the past couple of years. Congrats on being a new home owner in a sunny winter location! Enjoy soaking up the sun and discovering what plants you can grow at your new townhome.3

The demon that is my work anxiety is back. I’m glad I saved a few places to check on job hunting this weekend. Gives me hope 🌞4 -
@MissMay ! My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw your picture! If I looked like that in a two piece (at any age) I would be rockin it! I plan to enjoy my vacation to its fullest extent, no matter what I look like.
Congrats on the new digs!
@dawnbgethealthy Growing up we used to worship the sun and we would say “if you can’t lose it, tan it.”5 -
@MissMay
Awesome that you got a place!! I know that you were preferring to rent, but this will be good. Is there a pool? Looking forward to photos.
You look amazing in your swimsuit!!! You will be getting so tanned living down in FLA.
I love that bathing suit, great colours for you.
Sorry that you over drank one day and feel bad about it, but you will be fine. If I had 6 drinks I would be deathly ill.4 -

Monday October 17 - AF - Worked out of town, of course felt like drinks when I got home, just didn't.
I have found some new AF fun drinks. A champagne flute holds about 3-4 ounces, so the calories are not too bad. Artisanal sparkling lemonade. I had this on Sunday after harvesting all weekend, it was delicious and satisfied the want for celebrating a long sweaty day in the yard:

Wow sorry I have been so MIA, a lot going on right now. From homeless camped still in front of business to MIL falling (93yr old) and breaking her arm and now is in a care facility to my own mom (88yr) still feeling the after effects of covid.
Drinking, well this is not one of my better months and I don't know why I thought I could moderate. I have not over indulged but indulged 10 out of 18 days. Each of those 10 would be either a beer, sometimes two or a glass of wine.
Each time was always mid day with DH never alone. I did not continue drinking into the night like my past self would do.
@MissMay ENJOY the weather wow. I could not rock a bikini like you. There is too much middle age around my middle. LOL
I will do my best to get back in on a more regular basis. I did read all the posts and there have been some good, bad, ugly AND happy, funny and encouraging posts.
Hope to be back later

@MissMay you are seriously incredible....hope you are enjoying your new digs and find your artistic environment in your new spot. You are doing amazing and I am sure the none to less drinking gets you that.
I am trying to not drink since I have my end-of-year medical tests and I am motivated to pass.
I've been up and down this week...approaching my B-day and I think some of us others are too. Happy Birthday to October folks! October is always the best month for me - time for transition, time for change, and time for weather to cool down5 -
@forestdweller1 - I really like your statement: Wine is like a bad boy friend. Can't stay with him. Can't quit him.
Perfectly said and your timing is perfect. You are helping me get to that point where it may be bye-bye for good. Plus I don't need any bad boyfriends at age 57 now, do I?

Love this little community of LESS drinking friends 💕
I have finally found a fun atmosphere that serves Heineken00.
Back in my old state non alcoholic beverages were plentiful. Here now in Fl when I ask what they have on hand for non-A, they say water or soda or juice. Although I enjoy inventing my own non-A drinks, they are never consistently made, it takes too long to explain how to make it my way and I get pissed if it is not how I asked for it (a fault of my own)
Hmmmmmm .... a thought, UREKA!
A non-A based painting experince to go to for us LESS drinking enthusiasts!
@lmlmrn I am going to need your help to set this up. Lol
On the art side of my move to FL, I have already established my name on a short list to be in a gallery with other local( yup I am a local already) artists. I can not accept wall space as of yet because my moving POD is still in storage 50 miles away and my art is inside of it. 😢 This is an amazing opportunity. I pay a very small monthly wall rent fee, NO commission taken from gallery owner. Her requirement is, any artist displaying art is asked to work ONE DAY A MONTH in her gallery.
But wait......she has a total set up for painting in the back and anyone that works that one day can bring their own art to work on during that shift.
WHAT!?
Free work space?
Free exposure to buyers?
NO commission collected on my art sales?
FREAK'N pinch me I'm dreaming!
Now that I had my 6 drink slip up last Friday night and I am once again in tune with my daily, weekly, monthly limits and goals I can get back on my track. Drank my H-00 last night during our karaoke debut at a new venue.
If anyone tells you that at over 50 years old or at any age for that matter, you can not make new changes in your life to do new things, tell them to "go pound salt"!
Everyones posts inspire me to new levels. Thank you all for your continued input to our thread.
We are stronger together!

Monday October 17 - AF - Worked out of town, of course felt like drinks when I got home, just didn't.
Tuesday October 18 - AF - Into a very heavy work week with late nights. Cold weather and rain are in the forecast with so much of my garden needing harvesting and very little time to get it done before the rain (and snow??) begins Saturday morning. Definitely can't add alcohol into that mix. Planned drinks late Friday after work and probably Saturday as I start to peel and cook stuff during the rainy day.
Rolling total: 12AF days out of 18 days.6 -
OMG Look at this: This was in my notifications:

Nobody remembers a time when this person wasn’t a member here.
I laughed so hard.
@MissMay
Woza I am so excited for you and your new adventure! What about DH is he finding his footing? I can't wait for the day we are closer (miles wise) to make a trek or two.
Things are really crazy here with the homeless, elderly parents (DH & Mine), and selling the business building. I have indulged in either a wine or a beer for what seems like daily but I know that is not quite right. Odd thing I have observed. If I eat meals heavy in protein I am less likely to snack and/or crave an alcohol beverage ...so odd.
I know this is short but gosh you guys are doing so good. The 'boyfriend' analogy was spot on!

@dawnbgethealthy no this townhouse has no pool. But this public " pool" is only a 7 minute drive and I don't have to scoop bugs out of this with a net. 😅
