@martaindale those symptoms are worrisome. I am sorry you are dealing with this after being pretty durn careful when it started. Have you ever had something like this before? The swelling to your ankles maybe it is from higher up? Could it be your achilles or some sort of stress fracture ? (both legs! JEEZ!) I am glad you were able to get an appt on Tuesday to see if it can be sorted out.
@yirara hearts rate trends and such are very unique to individuals. There are SO many things which can effect them. The best I think is to do as you are and to monitor and pay attention.
@tarun_yadavA I see the US and England tied 0 0 today. I dont really watch soccer and honestly everyone I know is WATCHING it just because I guess world cup but they probably haven't ever seen a match in person. LOL. Speedy run today!
@AlphaHowls Happy belated 52nd! I think you should rename your 1/2marathon streak to 15 mile streak... just saying. Gorgeous sunrise photo. That and the photo @kgirlhart shared of the moon after the fog lifted the other morning are what makes my early morning runs totally the bomb! I don't run with my phone anymore (just my watch) so I don't usually get photos but some of the skies as the sun comes up are stunning!
@eleanorhawkins hope you re not getting sick because we know you NEED to try out those trail poles. I wonder if @polskagirl01 uses them on some of her more crazy adventures!
I met my monthly goal today with a 7 miler. 122.6 out of 120 and tomorrow I hope to hit 1400 for the year. ALtho it was warm and wet yesterday today felt better with a north wind. I had trouble dressing because I did not want to have to do my hair yesterday before going to thanksgiving with the extended fam but it was too warm really to wear anything but a tshirt and shorts. So today was but easier. Esp because I did not care about keeping my hair nice. HAhahahaha.I am SO glad I did go to the family dinner yesterday. My older brother is a teaching tennis pro and has been for a long long time. I explained to him my issue with my back after playing but that running the next day would be fine. He suggested that I use a one handed backhand and that the torque from using my other hand was the culprit. It sort of made the lightbulb go off in my head because I know that forehands were not hurting but backhands do. I don't have the true Chrissie Everett 2 handed backhand but I do use my othr hand to guide so if the rain ever stops I will try out this theory. Worth it if I have to change my stroke not to keep irritating my back. This was my brother eating the crust from the cheesecake ring.
Some of the trees are finally starting to turn here in Tx and altho this photo would be more stunning with a bright blue sky in the background the tree still caught my eye this morning enough for me to go back later and snap a photo before it starts raining. again. I know. Must. Not. Complain. About. Rain....6 -
@tarun_yadavA It was a pretty exciting game for no score. We have never watched a lot of soccer, but we do like to watch the World Cup.2

I had joined a challenge back in August, to take photo what what made your run awesome/best. Before that, I would 'never' stop during a run. Now, I find it fun to bring back what makes me smile.

@AlphaHowls - Happy Birthday! Love the sunrise pictures! I also am enjoying taking pictures of what makes me smile but often it is just the birds or the way the sun is making the water sparkle.
@martaindale - I hope your achilles are improving and that the sports doctor can help!
@yirara - I agree with @ martaindale that everyone's HR is different and impacted by different things. I find the heat/humidity levels as well as how well rested I am and so many other things...
@eleanorhawkins - I have run with poles and found them annoying as well as helpful if that makes sense? I think annoying because I hate having things in my hands but I love the sense of stability help.
@tarun_yadavA - We have been watching the World Cup too. My husband finds it annoying because he doesn't understand it. I find it amazing how many draws they have had this go round. I have read some pretty funny articles about conditions in Qatar, especially the lack of beer/alcohol at/near the games. I guess it has been especially painful for the England fans π
@SummerSkier - I would be eating the cheesecake crumbs out of the pan along with your brother. That is the best part! I hope his suggestions for your tennis swing help!
The tree is gorgeous! Yes, please do not complain about the rain or at least send it up this way instead. We all need it so badly!
I went out for a run today since the wind had died down to a manageable level. It was warm but the wind helped make it feel cooler. The only problem was it was just so dry that I have a really difficult time breathing through my nose which causes my breathing to be really off. Even though I ended up with a bloody nose but had a pretty good run. @AlphaHowls gave me a great suggestion to use some vaseline in my nose. I will have to remember to try that in the future. Not sure I will make my 100 mile goal this month but I should get pretty close.

Morning ladies! π
@SummerSkier - with your brother on that one!! The crumbs from the base. Love it!
(Side note- get a lot of American chains here, but the one we don't have is Cheesecake Factory π )
Hope single handed backhand returns work for you. And I like Chrissy Evert too! Glamorous! π
@kgirlhart - I think the US, on that performance, should beat Iran and set-up a knockout game against Holland. Who look pretty insipid.
@shanaber - agreed. I don't think Qatar should ever been allowed to host. I think Budweiser should take FIFA to the cleaners with lawsuits.
Side note-
Whilst on the subject of UK v US, on a subject close to my heart (Beer! lol)...
Lot of misconceptions about both.
Over here, British think of American beer as 'Budweiser' and 'Coors' - and typical responses are "it's just fizzy pisswater".
When I took a work sabbatical last year and did my 48State Roadtrip...
Meanwhile in America, more than once I got, "is it true y'all drink beer warm?". LOL
Where I could, visited a lot of microbreweries in each state... Some places like Maine, Wisconsin, Oregon (both Portlands actually) - OMG I was in heaven!!
Disappointed I didn't get to do Denver in CO, or hit up the Austin microbrewery scene.
Anyways... Time for Morning Tea!
And get a run in!
Wife and youngest away at my in-laws... I got some guys coming round in the afternoon till late. France v Denmark and Mexico v Argentina.
Got in a Costco run
24x cans of Brewdog IPA,
12x bottles of Peroni beer,
2 bottles of Chivas,
1 bottle of Gin - in case!
2x party size bags of Chilli Heatwave Doritos,
2x party size bags of Nacho Cheese Doritos,
2x party size bags of Salt and Vinegar twirls!5 -
Squeezed something in!
My friend, who is always always late, told me I'll be at yours for between 9:30-10... Shows up at 9.10.
So had to cut short5 -

We do indeed Ma'am π
I have mayonnaise and ketchup to last through to 2024! π5 -
@martaindale Oh no! So sorry to hear about your injury. I'm glad you could get in to see the sports doctor on Tuesday. I hope they have good news for you and you are able to continue with your training for the Dopey Challenge.
@eleanorhawkins Glad you had an awesome run and that you were able to borrow some trail poles so you know if you like them or not. Funny that your subconscious wants to run the hills.
Great run @tarun_yadavA . Fantastic consistency. Looks like you are ready for the party! I hope you all enjoy!
@kgirlhart Nice job on the Thanksgiving day 10K.
Happy Happy Late Birthday @AlphaHowls ! Looks like a nice run.
Nice running @yirara . Can't help you on your question about HR though. I've not noticed that either.
@SummerSkier Congrats on meeting your months goal already! Love the picture of your brother eating the leftovers on the pan. Love me some cheesecake! Lovely tree too. I thought I heard on the news this morning that TX is getting snow. Does that include you?

@quilteryoyo - thank you! π1
-
@tarun_yadavA I hope we do beat Iran. It's lots of fun to watch. Looks like you are ready.
@AlphaHowls Happy Belated Birthday!
@quilteryoyo I am about 3.5 hours north of @SummerSkier . We've been getting rain, but not cold enough for snow.
I did manage a drizzly one mile walk with my collie yesterday and I am hoping the rain will clear up this afternoon so I can get a nice mile in. I would hate to lose the streak this late in the month. It should be really nice tomorrow for my long run.7 -
No running today. Three days in a row is enough. Today I walked into town and visited a UNESCO World Heritage site spread over two nearby properties.5

@SummerSkier Do I dare ask what your views on 'Light Mayo' are?!? Lol π3 -
Hey guys. (I'm not really back, just had a question for y'all and then saw @eleanorhawkins talking about poles, which I do have an opinion on that might be helpful...)
Trekking poles are great in the mountains. In my experience they're great for going uphill, and it gives your arms something productive to do. You can stow them going downhill, carry at your side, or hold them ready to assist with balance (hands OUT of straps going downhill, so a fall doesn't result in a broken wrist). Definitely get ones that fold up small enough to attach to your pack though. The cheap Decathlon "collapsible" set I got first really only collapse in half, so they're still way too long and are annoying to deal with even when it's my kid that is using them. I've tried so many different ways of attaching them to a pack. It's useless. You need poles to fold up at least into three sections. Also there's a difference between "nordic walking" poles and trail running "trekking" poles, so get ones marketed for trail running.
I love these - Viking Kettera Pro poles
I know, it's hard to see them in these pictures. They collapse, then fold into 3 sections, and fit nicely on the outside of my pack. They also come with a carrying bag.
My question: for those of you with strap HR monitors, can you use them for 24-hr monitoring? And does it record everything so that you could go back and see all of your stats? I've heard good things about the accuracy of the Polar H10 but am not sure if all these strap-sensors are geared more towards just workouts, or if a person trying to recover from a chronic-fatigue-like illness could use it to monitor all the time. I get annoyed having a watch on my wrist, and optical sensors aren't as accurate, so I'm looking for something a little better.3 -
56.60/70 mile goal
Cleaned house this morning, waiting for the temp to warm up so I would run outside. I really had hoped to run out the road today, where it is relatively flatter, but since Tippy hasn't had much chance to run around the last two days, I opted to run on the driveway so she could run around too. (If I ran out the road, I would tie her out so she wouldn't follow me. If I run on the driveway, I just let her loose and she runs some on the driveway, into the neighbor's field, and who knows where else before she decides to lay in front of the garage door and watch me with a judgmental eye as I make my rounds. LOL) It was 57Β°F to 61Β°F while I was out. Had gotten cloudy, but not bad.
I ran/walked 5.0 miles in 1h8m38s for an average pace of 13:44 min/mile. My best mile was the first one at 13:25 min and the slowest was the 4th at 14:12 minutes. Avg HR was 141 bpm. Max was 152 bpm at the end when I kicked the finish. Otherwise it was at or below 149 the entire time.
When I finished, I rested a few minutes and then mom and I took our neighbor's dog for another walk since it was so warm. When I came home, I cleaned out the gutters and blew/swept off the porches again. I didn't turn my Garmin on for that, because I really had not intended to do as much as I did. Now.....I'm beat.
Waiting patiently for a treat.
Watching the water go by.
Glad to know you are at least checking in every once in a while @polskagirl01 ! Sorry I can't help with your question. I had a check strap when I got my first Garmin, but only used it when running. I hope it will do what you want it to.

Checking in and catching up on everyone. Still no running but I did a workout and foam rolling yesterday and went for a walk around our property today. Swelling is basically gone and I can stand on full tiptoes today without pain. Tomorrow I will go for a longer walk and do another workout. It's hard but I'm resisting the urge to run.5
-
@quilteryoyo Tippy is so cute!
@martaindale I'm glad the swelling is down and there is no pain. Good job on being strong and waiting until after Tuesday to run.2 -
@tarun_yadavA - I had the same reaction as @SummerSkier - no idea there were Costco in the UK.
I am not a huge beer fan well certainly not of the 'popular' name brand beer like Bud, Coors, Miller, etc. and I think your general description is accurate. I tend toward dark beers, loved the black and tan when we were in England and some of the local beers at the smaller pubs out in the countryside. I love a good stout and some of the dark Mexican beers and yes we also have so many small microbreweries here too but most have IPAs which I don't care for.
Mayo - I don't eat it any longer if I can avoid it (use avocado in most cases instead) but I have found avocado oil based mayo to be really good.
@polskagirl01 - the poles I had were the trekking variety and also folded into 3 parts like yours. They were actually my daughters that she let me borrow. She got them when she worked at REI and they were so nice!
Regarding the chest strap HRM... I don't think there would be anything keeping you from wearing it for long periods. I have/had the Polar H10 and liked it. The biggest limiting factor will be battery life and you have to have something, watch or phone, to pair it to where the data is kept. I had mine paired to my iPhone before I had the Apple watch and all of the data was available to view on my phone. I am not sure about other phones and any limitations on the amount of data. The battery lasted for at least a year but that was wearing it only for workouts and runs. I wore it for a while along with my watch and the values were comparable so I stopped wearing the chest strap. Also it was very evident when the battery was getting low - the HR values it recorded were really out of bounds of anything I had ever had.
@quilteryoyo - your neighbors pup is beautiful! Is that the one that had the puppies a while ago?
I took Hobbes out for a long walk today. It was finally nice again and the humidity was up to around 25% - so much better. We got in 6 miles and really enjoyed it. Stopped to take a picture of this egret that was hanging out in the shallow water. It was finding something to eat... I keep wondering where all the fish go when it was all dried up. They seem to come back - I see them jumping in the deeper water and the birds are going after them. One of those mysteries I guess.5 -
Good morning all.
This was a struggle!
Feel like that Danny Glover character from Lethal Weapon "I'm getting too old for this *kitten*".
@shanaber not a huge Avo fan. I like it in Guac/Tex MEX, and thinly sliced over a salad... But not in my burgers, and definitely not as a substitute for mayo!
Have a nice Sunday everyone!3
