Gratitude 12: Texture=puppy tummies!
Katla our fathers could have known each other in the Solomon Islands. Papa almost never talked about his wartime experiences, neither did Uncle Frank.
Kay yuck! Hope your and Dave’s cases are most mild.
Flea Yikes! Praying no complications.
Lanette, yes I remember WildHorseWendy well and miss her posts.
Hours and hours browsing the Holiday Bazaar and the one at the Presbyterian church. Brought home way too many baked goods, froze all but the frosted carrot cake. Found a purse that is perfect to replace my falling apart wallet. Succumbed to a cute knit had due to its color and warmth. Alas, turns out it is VERY ITCHY. Any ideas for making a little caplet or for lining it?

I'm going to be taking part in a performance on the stage in an hour. Just two of us brave enough from the line dancing group with the show cast members. We will dance in the middle so we can see what the professionals are doing!!!!!
We rehearsed a bit after lunch.
I'm going to wear my sparkly t shirt. It's only for a few minutes, but, of course, I'm nervous. But I believe in pushing yourself.
It doesn't help that the boat is rocking . Now in the Bay of Biscay.
The ballroom dancing class have cancelled our performance because too few are up for it and the ship is moving too much. Because so few turned up for the rehearsal this morning, I got to dance with the teacher. He is South African and World Champion, so it was a great pleasure! I loved it. A strong lead makes anyone look good!
So, a cup of tea and then to get dressed.

OMGoodness, Rebecca, cinnamon apple butter sounds amazing! I love apple butter and I love adding cinnamon to my applesauce, so... YUM!
Oh man! Okay... having a website in the first place is totally amazing. Tearing it down and starting over? I'm in awe of both of you, Lisa and Machka! Kudos and GOOD LUCK!
Blessings on your trip, Pip! I'm sure you're going to have LOADS of fun in your new camper with your new crew!
Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. That's tough. I have a friend like that. I've known her since we were five though. Don't know what I'd do without her.
Grateful for...

Annie – So sorry you missed your show! I don’t drive at night for similar reasons. Respecting that is really hard, but better than wrecking my car or someone else’s.
Kay and Flea – Sorry about the covid diagnoses! Hope everyone comes off with a light case.
Heather – Had to go back to find your watercolor, thanks for posting it! The times I’ve tried, I was unable to get those saturated hues like the blue and yellow in your piece, love the blue tiles. Hope the performance was loads of fun!
Sunday morning's rolling past like a lazy river - just got up to 31 degrees outside. Corey's in his usual place on Sundays, in bed, reading the entire Internet, drinking coffee. I ferry another cup in every so often so Egg can stay asleep between his stretched-out legs. If I stayed in that position, propped up to read a laptop, legs straight out, for even a few minutes, my joints would be in such pain, but he can stay that way for hours...
Finishing up my second cup of tea, and just snarfed down a cheese omelet with Havarti cheese for a nice change. Nearly 25 grams of protein in one dish, and only about 300 calories. I'm still holding steady at 159 pounds, and hope to stay here for a bit.
13. ability. I'm grateful for the ability to love another human being.
Speaking of which, time to go make the bed, now that Corey and Egg are out of it, and to get a load of laundry out of the dryer. The usual domesticity that suits my soul this time of day... no plans today.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR4 -
Pip— I love your dogs! I will have to wait for a pup. Next summer our daughter & son in law are planning to build a house for us on their property. I hope we will be able to get a sweet puppy then. This has been our longest time without a dog in more than three years. It seems like forever and we still miss our Keeshond, Schooner. He was special. ❤️4

Heather, hooray for your dancing adventures and your awesome watercolor.
Katla, you are being very patient waiting for all the good things to come.
Kay and Flea, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Pip, enjoy your trip. We traveled in an RV with two cats and two dogs for several summers and loved it.
Barbara, I used to go to all the holiday bazaars but finally reached the saturation point and now I go to none of them. Jake bought an apple streusel pie at QFC and plans to cut it into pieces and freeze the pieces so he can have a treat from time to time. Now all our shopping is online with curbside pickup at QFC and an occasional purchase from Amazon.
My Sunday walking friend is back from her trip to Texas so we will be walking in a few minutes.

Lanette – oh, Mars, IS a wonderful company to work for. So very family-oriented. And really into cleanliness and quality. We took a tour of the facility (it’s not open to the public but we got one because Vince worked there). The things they did for families! If you had any problem at all, they worked with you.
Just ordered a pattern for a cross stitch that I’ll make for Jess and another one that I’ll make for Anna, the lady who took care of my father. It’s a picture of the flag of Poland. I think she’ll like that. Jess' says that "the secret ingredient is cat fur".
Sunday here: did Tracy Anderson’s Slim and Sculpt Cardio DVD. This one isn’t for me, so it’s going back to the Salvation Army. Work tomorrow then bowling and ceramics at night. After exercise, went for a walk then to WalMart. Soon I’ll leave to go to Rummikub. I really don’t feel like going, but I know that I should and I’ll enjoy myself once I get there.
Flea – let’s hope it isn’t bad HUG
The honey we use is made down the street from us. Can’t get much more local than that, can you?
Barbara – WildHorseWendy – now that’s a blast from the past. Miss her and Penny and lots others
I had to pass right by Rebecca’s cinnamon apple butter. Food porn at its best….lol
Barbie – glad your walking friend is back.
Now to go find the address of where Rummikub is being held then I’ll be off.
Nope, don't have to go yet. I just found a clock that Vince forgot to set back. Here it looked like it was 1:30 and it's really 12:30. Made chocolate bran muffins earlier today

Debbie, - Curious if your husband is jealous of your relationship with your ex? And if you have any regrets? We have an amusing situation here - my ex-husband is not only a wonderful co-grandparent, but a good friend to both me & my spouse. We go out to lunch together and exchange gifts, etc. My spouse and my ex have their own friendship and communication without me in the middle. I know we are weird, but I don't actually care. It works for us.
Karen in Virginia
no, dh is not jealous or seem to care at all. They have met and got along fine.
Lots of regrets on both our parts. Former hubby left with no warning and was out of my life for 20 yrs. He finally contacted me to tell me why he left(I was clueless all those years), basically, he was having some mental problems that he didn't know how to deal with and was afraid his anger would get even worse and he would really hurt me and that scared him. Since then he has gotten help and meds and we are now best friends. I had no say in our separating. He tells me all the time that was his biggest regret.
If we were both single again, yes, I do think we would be back together, but, we're not.2 -
weighed this morning(every Sunday morning) I am down a pound but it is the pound I was up last week that was a gain from the week before. Stuck at 144.6 again.
Back to walking the4 wetlands tomorrow after only walking there Monday(daycare girl was home sick so I didn't go over there, did other walking instead)
Having my tea and then headed to church. Watched online last week which was a nice break.
Would be nice if dh went with me but that is his choice.
Have a wonderful Sunday ladies

Dr. Katie-hope everything stays mild-good job avoiding!
Flea-sorry to hear about your positive test. Hopefully you have a relatively mild case. I hope you can get paxlovid or another treatment.
Heather-good job stepping up like that-your enjoyment is obvious!
Pip-I will be honest-camping has never interested me. I am so glad you and Kirby (and the kids) have a thing you enjoy so much together.
Night driving-becoming less a fan. I am ok in the areas I am familiar (even some of our country roads). Last week ladies' group met at house that is in middle of no where-fields across from property, asphalt drive way, no lights, reflectors, nothing so backing out is very disconcerting. Decided not to attend because of that.
Katla-your Christmas decorations sound very nice.
Lazy day today. Did some online shopping (had gift cards to spend), went for walk. Laid down a bit. Still not sleeping well at nights. Hopefully it settles down soon.
Watching a bit of football. Should be getting some work stuff done but am not feeling it. Maybe do an hour or so here pretty soon. An extra hour on projects can make a difference. Ad if the Browns don't straighten up soon, it will be better for my serenity to work on something else and just check in occasionally.
Stopping by friends house this pm to discuss issues some friends are having with our church. Many members are disturbed with current pastor. I am not sure there is much we can do except support each other.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Take care all,

I had it on a sliced slice of sourdough, and butter rubbed on it after toasting it. She confessed that she wished that she used a coffee grinder for the cinnamon, but the cinnamon bits don't bother me.💖. I had put some foods I knew I wouldn't eat on the free site, and she responded. We texted back and forth easily like old friends. She lives out in the country towards Coupeville, so it will be fun to maybe help with canning. She also does apple leather! And husband makes venison jerky. I traded two tins of mackerel in olive oil, for the apple butter, when her husband brought it by. He seemed nice. Sadly we have never had a couple to be friends with. My husband is so particular, and likes his solitude. When I make friends they are always my friends, not our friends. I'm ok with that I suppose.

Rebecca Yay for pounds lost!
I gained quite a bit this fall. Today I walked twenty minutes but I'm still way over calories and I haven't had any supper. Sundays are always hard for me because my parents like a big lunchtime meal and my mom pushes food on me. But I am not helpless. I will get better at refusing!
It's a brisk beautiful fall day outside. I have been reading a library book by Tana French. Her dialogue is especially excellent.

We also tend to eat a big mid-day meal on Sundays, then I don't eat dinner. Most of the time that works for me.

Thank you Carla!! I do still stay in touch with two of Laurie's three kids on Facebook- seeing all the grandkids pictures.
I do have another best friend- She was in second grade and I was in forth when we met at church. We don't get to see each other often but when we do, it is like no time has gone by. We do text back and forth regularly.
My other best friend is former hubby- so blessed to still have both of them in my life. I actually have his whole family back in my life. I text with his dad regularly.
Great job for those who have lost weight and continue to. Slow is better than stalled!!!1 -
Rebecca - Well done on the weight loss, dear heart. Hope the gallbladder pain is under control and you're feeling better. That apple butter looked so good, I may have to break down and make some.
Heather - So glad you got your time in the spotlight--you look like you are in heaven!
Rita - (website stuff, not private, just boring if you're not into it)I use Bluehost, but don't necessarily think they're better or worse, they're just familiar to me, and I know they work very well with WordPress. My total for first-year registration, domain name and hosting added up to about $180, I think. I do add privacy fees to keep my home address from showing up on the public registration. I looked at Wix, Hostgator and GoDaddy, and they all get good reviews. Don't know whether they're less expensive.
When I was poking around, I seriously considered a free blog/newsletter-type site at Substack. It would have "substack" in the domain name, which isn't that big a deal... I even got to the point of putting together a couple posts, and then decided I'd rather just have my own site again. If I ever decide to monetize (very doubtful), I can use Substack to distribute a newsletter from my own domain. They enable the writer to add subscription pricing, and they take a percentage, which is how they make their money. However, you don't HAVE to charge subscriptions if you don't want to. Might be worth checking out, according to what you want. Do you have a current site that's live?
Quiet day, all in all, just a little laundry this morning. Corey's finishing a slow-cooked roast beef in the oven with roasted potatoes and veggies, the house smells wonderful.

Michele: Sounds like a wonderful company!
Lanette: LOL: I was an adrenaline junkie as well. Nursing and claims. Sometimes I have energy spurts even now! Often I do ok in the morning and then by the afternoon I feel very down!
Dr. Katiebug: Hope you test negative soon.
Rori: From Maui to the cold Colorado foothills. What a change!
Machka9: Love the necklaces. No respite planned. Just continue with the 2 caregivers I have. I guess I will continue to have ups and downs. This week end I missed a family wedding in Rhode Island. At least people sent me pictures by text.
Debbie: Peace to you as you remember your friend who passed away.
Flea: I hope you test negative soon!
Rebecca: So good to hear that you are doing well.
Katla: So glad to hear you got Christmas decorations up! Good going!
Heather: I love the wet on wet watercolor--the dancer!
Lanette: Amazon rewards????? Is there a place to look for those????? I have a compulsion to keep my bedroom light on all day. I wonder how much I spend doing that!
Betsy: Sounds like a nice walk with Ella. Sorry your lost a Dogwood tree!
Annie: I hope you get to see Arsenic and Old Lace. Maybe it will come on streaming!
Lisa: I hope the iron infusion on Wed gives you some energy!
GrandMallie: We spent quite a bit of time on Cape Cod as children. We loved Old Silver Beach in
Falmouth!
Rebecca: 16 years is a long time. Seems like there should be an IRA matching fund match or a defined pension after 16 years....even if small. I hope he can get the 20 years in. That would be fantastic!
I am tired of counting calories and have decided to focus on counting carbs. I am not sure how many carbs a day I can eat and lose weight.......and you would think I would know this by now.....my biggest problem is coca cola in the morning. I do believe I am insulin resistant and need to cut carbs. Carbs are just so easy....grab a bagel...grab a piece of bread. Everything else gets more complicated! I was getting Nutrisystem a LA Carte once a month but have canceled this. I always order the pizzasl...so easy to just heat up.....and not many carbs for a younger person.....but for me I think I shouldn't be eating any pizzas for lunch....not even Nutrisystem pizza.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

The spoiler is full of a first world whine….I do love traditions and sometimes they stop being fun, or enjoyable and become something that is an obligation. My mom has traditions that are fully obligations, and she is unwilling or unable (at 93) to accept that these traditions can be altered or changed in any way. The winter holidays are full of these from Halloween to New Years it is minefield of stuff that was fun and grew and grew into a nightmare.
One of those is cookie making. Last year we made 8 types of cookies, 2 types of candy a total of 150-160 dozen pieces and they were divided up and given out to friends, neighbors, and service providers (aka the pool guy, hairdresser…) they are put on paper plates and delivered in the week or so before Christmas. When I was a kid we did a few kinds and they were given to a few people, and they were always on a beautiful 3 tier cookie tray when my folks entertained over the holidays. I am not sure when this got so out of control. When I moved out on my own, I did start cooking my own cookies – maybe 4 kinds and giving them out to friends, and having them as the desert for my entertaining. I do have to say that my family likes to entertain. I do not remember any time when there was not at least one “fancy” dinner party per month in my home, and many other times when there was an extra person or two for dinner.
Making my own cookies and handing out a few trays to folks was a nice way to acknowledge neighbors and friends without spending a ton of money. For the last 10-15 years Mom and I have done it together and it was fun. But for the last 5-7 years mom can not do it alone, and the list has grown, as she has encouraged my brother to put his friends on the list and her grandson (who she raised) to do the same. 2 years ago, I broke my budget and was exhausted after 4 days of cooking cookies at my house for 12 hours a day. Also, I provided 3 homecooked meals a day. Mom helps with the finances but not enough. Last year I recruited help – her grandson and his girlfriend came and helped – it was better but not enough and this last year my mom has slowed down and is less able to process multiple things. So with encouragement from my counselor, I started to really get some control over this event. It turns out that my brother gives 5 trays, my nephew (mom’s grandson) 11 trays, my mom 6 trays and I do 15 trays. 36 total trays. My mom puts together all of the trays but mine, and averages 3 dozen cookies per tray. That’s 108 dozen and none left for entertaining. This needed to be brought under control!!!!
Of all the cookies we do only one is really a family tradition cookie it is a deep fried cookie we call it a rosette, almost a sweet crepe batter, a shaped mold is heated dipped into the batter and then deep fried. Top with powdered sugar and they are yummy.
Discussion time with mom was painful. She felt I didn’t love her, I wanted to ruin one of her last Christmas’; make her friends forget her before she was even dead…. And believe it or not she is an inflation denier. She was adamant that food prices have not gone up since last year. Well after a couple of hours, we only took 3 trays off the list, BUT we dropped the candy, dropped one of the cookies, and swapped out a very time consuming cookie for a bar cookie. And decided that there were 11 trays that could be all rosettes and no other cookies. The other thing I have done is bought the trays – and they are smaller (not a lot- as that would cause it own set of problems) but a bit smaller so it will only be 2-2.5 dozen per tray. Just that lowers the number of cookies by 18 dozen. I will still be exhausted but I will be able to keep this at 4 days of cooking and control the budget a bit. I do feel like this is a win!

Heather – I’m very impressed with you
Night driving – like Ginny, I do it, but am not a fan. Much much prefer to be on roads that I am familiar with
Rebecca – good job on the pounds lost
Went to Rummikub. Nice turnout – probably around 16 people. The bad thing was that I was at this table with two ladies who talk, and talked, and talked. I don’t mind talking while playing, but they weren’t playing, just talking. I suspect the host wanted people to leave, so while they were talking I told them that I had to go. In 2 hours we only played 2 games. We should have been able to play more. Just had chips, salsa and pretzels to eat. What I think I should do next time is have something to eat before then. I’d probably only go on a Sunday, and we usually have soup. The shirataki noodles are very filling so I will have some of those. Well live and learn…
Kim – I don’t know if I could make that many cookies! I’d probably get to the point of not even wanting to LOOK at a cookie (which might not be a bad thing)
Well...off to bed. For some reason, I just feel so very tired. Not that I did a whole lot today.
