My Name is Donna, Age 62. I am 5’5” tall & I live in Northern Michigan USA
My mini-challenge is to lose 10 pounds by Easter 2023. I started my efforts on Dec. 10th weighing 198.4. My wish is to weigh 188.4 by Easter April 9th, 2023. That gives me about 4 months to lose 10 pounds. Sounds easy but, trust me, it won’t be. Especially when outside exercise is so limited for me this slippery time of year!
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

Day 47-01/11-198.6-(Trend weight 199.4) Whoosh thanks to TMI. Travel again today. I’m going to watch my P’s & Q’s. Horrible sleep last night. I don't yawn often, but this morning is horrid. Getting ready to leave for my travel day to cardiac rehab. That will burn a few calories. A little shopping in the city afterward so that will also keep my legs moving and offset some of the sitting.
Day 48-01/12-198.2-(Trend weight 199.3) I Gotta get Very Very serious about my Carbs. I don’t think I mentioned it, but in cardiac rehab on Monday they had to keep me over an extra hour because my EKG numbers were wrong in some way. I became very sick. This is not the first time. So on Wednesday I drove out of town all the way there for rehab again and they decided to check my glucose and it was at 377 and they would not let me participate. I listened to the ranting lecture and I felt like a child in the corner. I really felt like a failure. I cried while driving when I left. I spent every moment after that yesterday tracking my carbs more carefully, not just my calories. It’s difficult because I really can’t increase my fat due to the heart issues. And, of course, I have the eating disorders that cause me not to eat most veggies and all fruits. This is a challenge. I know I can choke down chicken breast but when I overdo a food I begin getting gag reflex so I really have to vary my meals. I’m a mess folks but I am going to use the MFP calorie and carb info to help me prelog and navigate my meals. I see the endocrinologist in Feb. Maybe I can make a big enough difference to avoid the insulin shots but I really don’t know at this point. I know, at this point, none of my meds are working. They call it insulin resistance. Long post, I know, but staying 100% accountable helps me stay on point. I already know that the big overnight party for my brother this weekend will likely be out-of-control with food and drink, but otherwise, I’ve GOT to make a lot of new and uncharted unexplored changes. I’ll take all your hugs and all your support too!

I want to see how much I can lose, starting off with something relatively easy, 50 grams a day. Each 20 day block I want to increase the amount I lose each day. Goal day is calculated using 7 day averages most recently and a month ago.
Day 01 27-Nov 88.2 kg, goal day in 715 days, so I overate, but that's alright because I always overeat the day I restart my weight loss
Day 02 28-Nov 88.5, goal day in 780 days, I overate again, I guess this is why my weight loss is very slow

Day 21 17-Dec 88.1 So I'm in Singapore briefly right now and the obesity rate is 9% compared to New Zealand's 35%. It's quite a noticeable difference. It's a constant reminder that if I am ever to achieve my goals I'm going to have to start today. So I'm going to aim for a 3 grams per day trendline reduction on my weights spreadsheet graph today. Tomorrow will be 6 grams a day etc etc. Currently it's 4.6 grams per day although that number will jiggle up and down a lot which is fine.

It's my first time I've had a girlfriend who is slimmer than me (together longer than 6 weeks) so I'm going to try and use that to help lose weight

So we shifted hotels and I only ate apples and crackers today, not a good menu plan, hopefully we get into a proper food buying routine soon

Day 28 24-Dec 88.5 I had some sugary food today, which means that I went about 5-6 days without sugar, a huge achievement for me. My weight loss is happening, but it's quite slow, Christmas day is tomorrow and I expect to gain a bit then. So things are happening slowly

Christmas Day saw me eating a lot of cake (plus some chickpeas surprisingly) and not much else. I guess I gained weight today. That's fine, thankfully Christmas comes only once a year. I want to speed up my weight loss, let's see if I can do that.

I'm having trouble figuring out what to eat here, it's hard to get quality food without walking a while, I guess I'm used to driving to the supermarket, now I don't have a car. I didn't expect to have such simple problems causing me to slow down my weight loss.

Another day of not so good control of what I'm eating, it's hard to figure out how much to eat/how much hunger to tolerate when you're eating food you're not used to. I guess I just need to keep trying until I'm successful, rather than "taking a break" as I have done in the past.

Day 41 6-Jan 87.6 So I'm paused in my weight loss, we moved into our new home and without a fridge freezer yet, we're doing a daily shop which is of course not good for weight loss. I don't want to jinx it but I had a sugar fest before the turn of the year, a packet of M&Ms 2 minutes before midnight and now I'm doing well, still sugar free. From today onwards I'll ask whether I have lost weight, hopefully the answers are mostly 'yes'.

Today I managed to keep control of my eating, it's hard because I have tracked my intake on an app for so long that I need to learn the skill of eating less (without eating too little).
Day 42 7-Jan 86.9 lowest weight in 12 days so my controlled eating went well
I guess I ate more than yesterday, so did I eat under maintenance? Maybe.
Day 43 8-Jan 87.3 I controlled my eating reasonably well which probably resulted in...
Day 44 9-Jan 86.7 New Low, lowest weight in 1017 days, Did I eat under maintenance? Maybe

Did I eat under maintenance? Again maybe. I'm really losing weight right now but I get the feeling that my weight is going down simply because there's less food in my system. I haven't been too hungry.

Dinner out with old friends we’ve not seen in 30 years. Definitely could have been more careful with my choices but I threw caution to the wind for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I need to get my mindset back under control. I need to lose this weight. Last time I was at my doc I weighed 206. I don't want to go to my physical and show the doc I'm back up where I was when she spoke to me about aging and needing to knock my BMI back down so that I don't get diabetes. I was on the edge of pre-diabetic ... but had not crossed the line. My A1C was 5.6 at 240. And at 206 it was low enough 5.1 that she said I was doing great.
- Normal A1C level is below 5.7
- Pre-diabetes 5.7 to 6.4
- Diabetes 6.5 or more

Oh Donna, I am sorry that you had to go through that!
I hope that you can find a nutritionist (online?) that will punch in the foods that you like and figure out an eating plan for you. Or even a therapist who can help you to add a couple of healthy foods into your diet that currently gross you out.

Excess calories burned (In the green): 986 - Even 1150 eating days didn't give me much excess because of low exercise during my sore ankle and subsequent steroid injection into it.
Day 43 – 1/8 - 144.2 - I just couldn't get enough to eat yesterday. I am okay with that. Almost zero activity. I have passed my 48 hours now so looking forward to some results over the next 2-6 weeks. I have been sleeping really weird hours over these days. Planning a nice healthy dinner tonight, hope that I get full : - )
Day 44 – 1/9 - 144.4 - Back to work today (way more steps) and going to do a dance workout this morning : - ) This always increases my energy levels and gets the creaks out. Laying around watching TV was actually pretty nice.
Day 45 – 1/10 - 143.6 - My ankle was pretty sore after work yesterday, that was hardly easing back into activity gently. It feels good this morning. Looking forward to a dance workout to fix my emotional and mental state this morning. I feel like it is a nice treat for me, especially after staying off of my feet for a few days. Something that I can do for myself and only myself.

Day 48 – 1/13 - 142.8 - Didn't have time to post yesterday. Really ready to have some Ribs, can't even remember the last time that I did. Crap, we are almost halfway through this 100, and my trend has been to gain almost every 100. 1 week since my steroid shot. Ankle feels pretty good this morning, maybe I can skate on Sunday. I have been back to getting in some dance workouts this past week since my 48 hours of staying off of my feet.

@Lilylady38 PLEASE don't let diabetes kick in for you. It is incurable. Once you have it, you have it for life, even if you get blood sugars under control from time to time. Your pancreas will never work properly again. And it leads to Coronary Artery disease and heart attack (like me) or stroke. Those are the leading cause of death for diabetics. My A1C averages 11 point something most of the time as my pancreas gets worse! Your eyes, your kidneys and so much more are affected. And they take away all your food. Right now you can have it in moderation if you are trying to lose weight. With diabetes you can't have it at all, even if you weighed 120 pounds. And then they take away the rest of your food because of your heart conditions that arise. So in the three macros you can't have the fats (except very minimal healthy fats like nuts and olive oil), and you can't have carbs. That leaves protein and it can't be too much of that as most proteins like meat, cheese, yogurt etc all have too much fat!
Just don't do it! Let's start with this 10 pounds. Exercise what you can, make that commitment.
Sorry for the rant, I just can't stand not saying anything when I know how horrid this life with diabetes is!

My mini-challenge is to lose 10 pounds by Easter 2023. I started my efforts on Dec. 10th weighing 198.4. My wish is to weigh 188.4 by Easter April 9th, 2023. I don’t think I mentioned it, but in cardiac rehab on Monday they had to keep me over an extra hour because my EKG numbers were wrong in some way. I became very sick. This is not the first time. So on Wednesday I drove out of town all the way there for rehab again and they decided to check my glucose and it was at 377 and they would not let me participate. I listened to the ranting lecture and I felt like a child in the corner. I really felt like a failure. I cried while driving when I left. I spent every moment after that yesterday tracking my carbs more carefully, not just my calories. It’s difficult because I really can’t increase my fat due to the heart issues. And, of course, I have the eating disorders that cause me not to eat most veggies and all fruits. This is a challenge. I know I can choke down chicken breast but when I overdo a food I begin getting gag reflex so I really have to vary my meals. I’m a mess folks but I am going to use the MFP calorie and carb info to help me prelog and navigate my meals. I see the endocrinologist in Feb. Maybe I can make a big enough difference to avoid the insulin shots but I really don’t know at this point. I know, at this point, none of my meds are working. They call it insulin resistance. Long post, I know, but staying 100% accountable helps me stay on point. I already know that the big overnight party for my brother this weekend will likely be out-of-control with food and drink, but otherwise, I’ve GOT to make a lot of new and uncharted unexplored changes. I’ll take all your hugs and all your support too!
Day 49-01/13-195.8-(Trend weight 198.9) Finally home yesterday and able to take all my meds. Whoosh! Back to logging all my food and it’s making a difference too. Everything will be out the window Saturday and Sunday during far travel and my brother’s 60th birthday party. I plan on having lots of fun without going overboard, but no worries, I’ll be back in the saddle on Monday. And I’m really going to make today count too - I’ve already pre-logged my food for the day.

Day 16: 12/11 - 229.1 Didn’t get out and walk with DH. Instead shopped with DD.
Day 17: 12/12 - Up at 2:30am and did not weigh. Exposed to COVID but testing negative. Skipped cookie tasting party.
Day 18: 12/13 - 230.2 Headache all day and I was up yesterday at 2:30am with only 2 30min naps during the day. Too exhausted to make the right choice or exercise. Skipped book club holiday party.
Day 19: 12/14 - 230.2 Still testing negative for Covid at home but not feeling well. Plan to quarantine till Sunday which means skipping out on a number of holiday parties. Skipped ZTA holiday party.

Day 22: 12/17 - Dog sitting Otis while kids in Key West so walking a lot since he requires it and it takes both DH & I to walk the 2 dogs.

Day 36: 12/31 - Got mom on a plane and her pipes did not freeze … no water leaks at the camp house! I paid someone to turn off the water and drain it due to the freezes … worth it since many of the community had issues.

Day 37: 01/01 - 232 - babysat granddaughter so DD & her husband could go to a friend’s party … they were home by 9:30
Day 38: 01/02 - 231.9 - DD & family moved to her husband’s family’s home since it is closer to work and day care (in town) until the Houston inspectors can review the construction work to replace the pipes and reattach to city sewage.
Well the scale is NOT pretty at all. My annual goal totally took a side trip in 2022.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 229.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.

Day 43: 01/07 - 230.0 - Journal, 80oz water, 3 glasses wine, 3 mile walk. DD & family are still displaced from their home due to the sewage line and moved back out to live with us this weekend to give her husband’s family a break. Big steak dinner last night last night with lots of veggies and wine.

Day 47: 01/11 - 229.9 @ 4am- Journal best I could since I went to a potluck brunch today after starting back up my ESL class. Water? AF, no exercise. Busy day today but too much food and not enough movement. Since DH is at a meeting in the evening I made a cup of peppermint tea and closed the kitchen so I didn't continue to snack.
Day 48: 01/12 - 228.1 - Did NOT Journal, ??oz water though I did drink it all day, AF, walk to and from park playing on the playground equipment with a mobil 1 yr old. 1.5 miles
Day 49: 01/13 - 230.1 - Did NOT Journal, ??oz water, 3 A drinks, no exercise. Busy day until around 2pm with granddaughter but also taught ESL in the morning. Then a nap! Dinner out with old friends we’ve not seen in 30 years. Definitely could have been more careful with my choices but I threw caution to the wind for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 50: 01/14 - 229.4 @ 3:30am- Did NOT Journal, ??oz water, wine, walk 3.1 miles. Mainly worked on finances … ours and then my mom’s as well. In the evening DH & I watched to old favorite movies ... The Martian and then The Fifth Element. I need to get out and garden … cutting back all the dead stuff from the freeze and water the plants. That will be today’s movement challenge.

My mini-challenge is to lose 10 pounds by Easter 2023. I started my efforts on Dec. 10th weighing 198.4. My wish is to weigh 188.4 by Easter April 9th, 2023. That gives me about 4 months to lose 10 pounds. Sounds easy but, trust me, it won’t be. Especially when outside exercise is so limited for me this slippery time of year!

Day 50-01/14-197.2-(Trend weight 198.8) A perfect day yesterday so I’m not sure why the scale is up. The Universe reassessing? No worries. I’m very much on track. It’s probably just my low level of sleep last night, early weigh-in and maybe because I haven’t been getting REM sleep lately? Anyway, I will be hitting the road soon for my brother’s birthday celebration. I can’t wait to see him and my SIL. He is also diabetic and has some very serious heart conditions now (different from mine, but worse to fix). I love being able to travel with my oldest daughter too. She has been dieting so maybe we can keep each other somewhat accountable, even during travel and party. My youngest daughter eats constantly and showers me with food. My older daughter (12 yrs older) is more likely to be concerned with my glucose and encourage me to watch it! I would love to spend more time with her but she is so busy. Teacher’s assistant at our local K-12 school, in college for early education and has 3 children - High school, middle school and kindergarten. Never enough time for mom. I’m just glad that college doesn’t open back up until the 19th and she can go with me.

Very powerful what you had to say about avoiding diabetes.
I have seen some people on other threads profess to have gotten off of their diabetes meds due to weight loss, but having heard what you have said I am skeptical. Maybe dramatic weight loss means that the body is so much smaller that it is easier on all of the organs and mechanisms? Best to just not get diabetes!
The sleep thing. Tough for all of us to get proper sleep. I heard a program on the radio about it, it seems that lack of sleep is linked to obesity amongst other things.
My own weight loss journey was triggered by my doctor warning me about diabetes and threatening blood pressure meds.
As for our weight fluctuations, I have learned that what I eat or don't eat (or alcohol consumption) can show up as much as 3 days later on the scale.
Tracking is definitely key. Glad to see that you are back to doing that, you had very good results from that in the past.2 -

I have passed my 48 hours now so looking forward to some results over the next 2-6 weeks. I have been sleeping really weird hours over these days. Planning a nice healthy dinner tonight, hope that I get full : - )
Day 44 – 1/9 - 144.4 - Back to work today (way more steps) and going to do a dance workout this morning : - ) This always increases my energy levels and gets the creaks out. Laying around watching TV was actually pretty nice.
Day 45 – 1/10 - 143.6 - My ankle was pretty sore after work yesterday, that was hardly easing back into activity gently. It feels good this morning. Looking forward to a dance workout to fix my emotional and mental state this morning. I feel like it is a nice treat for me, especially after staying off of my feet for a few days. Something that I can do for myself and only myself.
Day 46 – 1/11 - 142.6 - I burn a minimum of 400 calories waitressing each day, and my pedometre is still set at my 130.6 pounds, so it is likely even more. Split shifts the next 2. There is public skating during my break today at an arena, but I'll see how my ankle feels, I may or may not go.

Day 48 – 1/13 - 142.8 - Didn't have time to post yesterday. Really ready to have some Ribs, can't even remember the last time that I did. Crap, we are almost halfway through this 100, and my trend has been to gain almost every 100. 1 week since my steroid shot. Ankle feels pretty good this morning, maybe I can skate on Sunday. I have been back to getting in some dance workouts this past week since my 48 hours of staying off of my feet.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 229.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.

Day 50 – 1/15 - 143.8 - Not too much fallout from the Ribs. I took out a Mumbai chicken breast for dinner later, will have potato (or rice) and veg with it. I seem to do well during the weekdays with my weight and then it jumps on the weekends. I need to address that I suppose, I do generally indulge in a bit of "bad" stuff on Friday nights, I don't get the steps in on the weekends like I do on weekdays from waitressing, although I do work out more on the weekends. I want to do a workout with weights every Saturday, I did yesterday. The weather has been awful here, 5-7C the last few days, puddles on top of ice, huge ruts in the icy road where it has melted weird. Definitely no trails or anything. There is public skating today, I may try to go. Ankle is sore today, so we'll see.

My mini-challenge is to lose 10 pounds by Easter 2023. I started my efforts on Dec. 10th weighing 198.4. My wish is to weigh 188.4 by Easter April 9th, 2023. That gives me about 4 months to lose 10 pounds. Sounds easy but, trust me, it won’t be. Especially when outside exercise is so limited for me this slippery time of year!

Day 50-01/14-197.2-(Trend weight 198.8) A perfect day yesterday so I’m not sure why the scale is up. The Universe reassessing? No worries. I’m very much on track. It’s probably just my low level of sleep last night, early weigh-in and maybe because I haven’t been getting REM sleep lately? Anyway, I will be hitting the road soon for my brother’s birthday celebration. I can’t wait to see him and my SIL. He is also diabetic and has some very serious heart conditions now (different from mine, but worse to fix). I love being able to travel with my oldest daughter too. She has been dieting so maybe we can keep each other somewhat accountable, even during travel and party. My youngest daughter eats constantly and showers me with food. My older daughter (12 yrs older) is more likely to be concerned with my glucose and encourage me to watch it! I would love to spend more time with her but she is so busy. Teacher’s assistant at our local K-12 school, in college for early education and has 3 children - High school, middle school and kindergarten. Never enough time for mom. I’m just glad that college doesn’t open back up until the 19th and she can go with me.
