Day 19: 12/14 - 230.2 Still testing negative for Covid at home but not feeling well. Plan to quarantine till Sunday which means skipping out on a number of holiday parties. Skipped ZTA holiday party.

Day 38: 01/02 - 231.9 - DD & family moved to her husband’s family’s home since it is closer to work and day care (in town) until the Houston inspectors can review the construction work to replace the pipes and reattach to city sewage.
Well the scale is NOT pretty at all. My annual goal totally took a side trip in 2022.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 292.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.

I find that when I journal every bite I always always eat less and skip many temptations. So glad that I prioritized this part of my better habits for 2023 to get back on track because I think it pays off more than any other habit I try to maintain ... results weight loss. It is the biggest habit that I skipped out on in 2022 which resulted in regaining 23 pounds that I had gotten rid of in previous efforts.
So no skipping out on journalling even if it is guess work!3 -
@cpanus - I hear on the news about the continuous rain in Northern California. I hope that you are able to stay dry!!! How old is your grandson? My granddaughter turned 1 this week and she is really starting to get around ... the chase is on LOL

@dawnbgethealthy - Just ouch! I'll be thinking of you this weekend as you get that steroid shot in your ankle and begin recovery! I know if will be difficult for you to sit still since as you say you are always moving. Have you read the book or seen the movie ... Daisy Jones & The Six? I think I remember you were in a band in the 90s and just curious about your take on it. I enjoyed the book. I want to see the movie but mainly because Elvis' granddaughter Riley Keough is Daisy and Sam Claflin is Billy Dunne.
@deepwoodslady - It sounds like you are able to get a little more movement as you progress with your cardiac rehab. The couch sounds like a perfect place to try out a new exercise routine! Have you seen the exercises sitting on the floor with your back to the wall? They sound like great support for the posture and you aren't getting up and down all the time. I wish I could do jumping jacks like I did in my 20s but my knees at this weight would be painful ... maybe in the future we can both be more active! LOVE my Strength Training class with hand weights. The teacher just started her new 3 month routine and the core portion is all standing with hand weights ... LOVE when I don't have to lay on my back and do crunches ... this is much much better!
@ashleycarole86 - You are so close to being back in the 60s! Keep it up. I love that you are red and green during the maintenance mode last year ... the all red is a strong indicator that something is not working or losing focus. I should have done that last year when I too started gaining because it just got out of hand and I kept ignoring the weight gains. I might see about doing that at least on a weekly basis when reporting gains and loses to help jar my image of the direction I need / want to go and keep it in focus. Rooting for you to reach 169 on your daily report!

@dawnbgethealthy I will be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope all will go well both during and after. Now you know how I feel about the exercise changes in my life! It really sucks! I'm not allowed to do ANYTHING unless I am hooked on an EKG while doing it. No walks, hikes, or exercises of any kind. However, during rehab so far, I have not had any EKG incidences. So I sneak, at home, on my exercise bike and am considering some soft couch yoga and stretching exercises. I've just got make sure I'm keeping it at the low-level that rehab would and I feel confident that I will be okay. I have nitro if I need it here. It won't do as much as my old full exercising, but I just want to stay as active as I can.
I know that this changes the game for me for life, although I should be able to do some wimpy stuff once this 12 weeks are over. You are right, it does affect you physically and mentally too. Until someone is told they "can't" I don't know that anyone really understands how much this impacts you, including your weight. Anything we can do from rehab to steroid shots, anything that will help us stay more physically active in the future is a good thing. I hope during your treatment and recovery that you will be able to focus on that. You'll be skating soon!2 -

My mini-challenge is to lose 10 pounds by Easter 2023. I started my efforts on Dec. 10th weighing 198.4. My wish is to weigh 188.4 by Easter April 9th, 2023. That gives me about 4 months to lose 10 pounds. Sounds easy but, trust me, it won’t be. Especially when outside exercise is so limited for me this slippery time of year!

Day 41-01/05-199.0-(Trend weight 199.2) A touch up but trend weight is down. I am required to eat breakfast before physical therapy (which is early) so I end up with 3 meals instead of two and a long day of eating at that. Luckily, the therapy itself burns a few calories. I also finished putting away the Christmas stuff when I got home, so lots of stairs to the basement. Therapy involves travel and lunch out, but I kept it simple and did not finish it bringing half home for my son. I am noticing that I just can’t eat as much as I used to. I’m often still filling my plate the old way, or ordering out the old way and it has changed to smaller portions. That is a win, my friends! That should yield some results in 2023. Just gotta deal with the every other day (and after travel) bloat days and let not them depress me and make me give up! I’m happy today with all my results after 3 days of travel. I've actually lost 1 full pound during week 6 of this challenge so far.

I want to see how much I can lose, starting off with something relatively easy, 50 grams a day. Each 20 day block I want to increase the amount I lose each day. Goal day is calculated using 7 day averages most recently and a month ago.
Day 01 27-Nov 88.2 kg, goal day in 715 days, so I overate, but that's alright because I always overeat the day I restart my weight loss
Day 02 28-Nov 88.5, goal day in 780 days, I overate again, I guess this is why my weight loss is very slow
Day 03 29-Nov 88.2, goal day in 650 days, I ate too much unfortunately
Day 04 30-Nov 88.1, goal day in 630 days, I didn't overeat, but I think I didn't eat below maintenance

Day 21 17-Dec 88.1 So I'm in Singapore briefly right now and the obesity rate is 9% compared to New Zealand's 35%. It's quite a noticeable difference. It's a constant reminder that if I am ever to achieve my goals I'm going to have to start today. So I'm going to aim for a 3 grams per day trendline reduction on my weights spreadsheet graph today. Tomorrow will be 6 grams a day etc etc. Currently it's 4.6 grams per day although that number will jiggle up and down a lot which is fine.

So we shifted hotels and I only ate apples and crackers today, not a good menu plan, hopefully we get into a proper food buying routine soon

Day 28 24-Dec 88.5 I had some sugary food today, which means that I went about 5-6 days without sugar, a huge achievement for me. My weight loss is happening, but it's quite slow, Christmas day is tomorrow and I expect to gain a bit then. So things are happening slowly
Day 29 25-Dec 87.7 trendline 22 g/day which is okay
Christmas Day saw me eating a lot of cake (plus some chickpeas surprisingly) and not much else. I guess I gained weight today. That's fine, thankfully Christmas comes only once a year. I want to speed up my weight loss, let's see if I can do that.

I'm having trouble figuring out what to eat here, it's hard to get quality food without walking a while, I guess I'm used to driving to the supermarket, now I don't have a car. I didn't expect to have such simple problems causing me to slow down my weight loss.

Another day of not so good control of what I'm eating, it's hard to figure out how much to eat/how much hunger to tolerate when you're eating food you're not used to. I guess I just need to keep trying until I'm successful, rather than "taking a break" as I have done in the past.

I don't want to jinx it but I had a sugar fest before the turn of the year, a packet of M&Ms 2 minutes before midnight and now I'm doing well, still sugar free. From today onwards I'll ask whether I have lost weight, hopefully the answers are mostly 'yes'.

Day 36: 12/31 - Got mom on a plane and her pipes did not freeze … no water leaks at the camp house! I paid someone to turn off the water and drain it due to the freezes … worth it since many of the community had issues.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 292.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 292.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.

I am required to eat breakfast before physical therapy (which is early) so I end up with 3 meals instead of two and a long day of eating at that. Luckily, the therapy itself burns a few calories. I also finished putting away the Christmas stuff when I got home, so lots of stairs to the basement. Therapy involves travel and lunch out, but I kept it simple and did not finish it bringing half home for my son. I am noticing that I just can’t eat as much as I used to. I’m often still filling my plate the old way, or ordering out the old way and it has changed to smaller portions. That is a win, my friends! That should yield some results in 2023. Just gotta deal with the every other day (and after travel) bloat days and let not them depress me and make me give up! I’m happy today with all my results after 3 days of travel. I've actually lost 1 full pound during week 6 of this challenge so far.

Dieting is tough through the week because of my cardiac travel (and other appts) and tough on weekends with her here as she is a tiny petite little foody who can get away with eating anything. I’ve got to stick to my guns for the weight and the T2D. My glucose numbers have been running rampant throughout the holidays. Time to get back into some form of control. Thank you all for your kind words as I head into my medical procedure today.
My car battery died Wednesday night, so I was running around dealing with that during the times around work yesterday and didn't get on to post. Of course I logged and weighed, it is habit now (and has been since I joined MFP).
I had a really great skate Wednesday during my break, and am going to have a nice Fitness Marshall workout this morning before I go to get the ankle steroid injection. 2-6 weeks for results to happen, but the first 48 hours sounds like it will be intense. I have to stay completely off of my feet for that, it will be very weird for me. Looking forward to my ankle ceasing to hurt. I have a plate and screws in that same said ankle, and it seems like arthritis inflammation occurs at sites that have had previous trauma.
I had side effects from my second Shingles vaccine all week. 7 days of those was what the pharmacist said, although I refused to believe that I would get any. I got them all! I had no side effects from the first shot 9 weeks ago.
I have been feeling less than invincible of late, that is for sure. I have been feeling like 62 instead of 22 lol.

Day 36 – 1/1 - 145.4 - double ouch. I did eat some fun food and went into the red, but also they were salty, so I drank a great deal of water. Hoping that it is just that. I definitely did not eat 3 pounds of food.
Day 37 – 1/2 - 144.6 - Yesterday was a write off for me. I had my second shingles shot Saturday afternoon and suffered all day Sunday with side effects. I barely got in any activity even though my plan was to get outside lots. Friday I am having a steroid shot into my ankle joint and have to stay off of my feet for 48 hours, hence the reason for really wanting to get out on the trails this weekend. All good, I would much rather not get shingles. I fit in just a few dance workout songs yesterday.
Day 38 – 1/3 - 144.0 - Couldn't sleep last night. Quite worried about the shot in the ankle and the recovery time to get back to work. Short shift today at the restaurant but lots of Foster Grant jobs to do which might not get done. The pharmacist that gave me my second Shingles shot said that side effects would last 7 days, but I think that I didn't believe him since the first shot didn't affect me too much. I am feeling run down and like I have the flu/cold. Soldiering on. Split shifts the next 2 after this and I will not be allowed to move about after Friday morning, so I will get everything that I need in to the house during my work breaks.
Day 39 – 1/4 - 143.4 - A good night's sleep is always favourable for weight loss I feel. As for pasta, I moved to nupasta and various other brands made from the root of Kanjac several years ago. I honestly can't tell the difference. I make it with: marinara meatballs, a mix of fresh garlic, shredded chicken, parmesan, and sour cream, peanut sauce made from the dried kind (90% less calories), shredded pork. Before finding this pasta I didn't really eat pasta at all. The entire package of it is 10 calories, so I pile on the meat, cheese and stuff. Perfect texture. I had experimented with Spaghetti Squash, but find it a bit too wet unless baked, and way more work than opening a package of Kanjac and giving it a rinse.
Day 40 – 1/5 - 143.6
Day 41 – 1/6 - 144.6 - Plan is to eat everything in sight this weekend of staying home and off of my feet. I will log it all, but not going to try to keep calories low. About to have my last workout this morning for a few days.

Tomorrow will be 6 grams a day etc etc. Currently it's 4.6 grams per day although that number will jiggle up and down a lot which is fine.

From today onwards I'll ask whether I have lost weight, hopefully the answers are mostly 'yes'.

I even logged for the first time in awhile. 30 minutes straight on the exercise bike too. I also babysat my DGS which means a LOT of stairs up & down and the upstairs steps are STEEP! But I also know that I ate 1/3 of a Chinese dinner (Almond Boneless chicken) and a small amount of egg drop soup. Also, no water pill day yesterday so the bloat is real today. It’s difficult and frustrating to track this way, but I’ll just keep trying to keep my hopes and my spirits up.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 292.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.

I have had a bunch of time to basically just lay around. I listen to lots of radio normally anyway.
I heard a really interesting piece on hidden sodium.
2,300 per day is the maximum we should have, restaurant meals can easily have 6,000-14,000.
I remember telling everyone that I once went out to lunch and had a salad with grilled chicken and was up 3 pounds the next day. Restaurant chicken is soaked in salt? They shake salt over the salad?
Salt is different than sodium it sounds like.
It was eye opening to say the least.

5th Week Goal Weight: 139.2 - Not likely with holiday eating, but going to plunk in this number until I hit it. Turned out that Turkey dinners carefully portioned actually lost me weight this week.

Day 36 – 1/1 - 145.4 - double ouch. I did eat some fun food and went into the red, but also they were salty, so I drank a great deal of water. Hoping that it is just that. I definitely did not eat 3 pounds of food.
Day 37 – 1/2 - 144.6 - Yesterday was a write off for me. I had my second shingles shot Saturday afternoon and suffered all day Sunday with side effects. I barely got in any activity even though my plan was to get outside lots. Friday I am having a steroid shot into my ankle joint and have to stay off of my feet for 48 hours, hence the reason for really wanting to get out on the trails this weekend. All good, I would much rather not get shingles. I fit in just a few dance workout songs yesterday.
Day 38 – 1/3 - 144.0 - Couldn't sleep last night. Quite worried about the shot in the ankle and the recovery time to get back to work. Short shift today at the restaurant but lots of Foster Grant jobs to do which might not get done. The pharmacist that gave me my second Shingles shot said that side effects would last 7 days, but I think that I didn't believe him since the first shot didn't affect me too much. I am feeling run down and like I have the flu/cold. Soldiering on. Split shifts the next 2 after this and I will not be allowed to move about after Friday morning, so I will get everything that I need in to the house during my work breaks.
Day 39 – 1/4 - 143.4 - A good night's sleep is always favourable for weight loss I feel. As for pasta, I moved to nupasta and various other brands made from the root of Kanjac several years ago. I honestly can't tell the difference. I make it with: marinara meatballs, a mix of fresh garlic, shredded chicken, parmesan, and sour cream, peanut sauce made from the dried kind (90% less calories), shredded pork. Before finding this pasta I didn't really eat pasta at all. The entire package of it is 10 calories, so I pile on the meat, cheese and stuff. Perfect texture. I had experimented with Spaghetti Squash, but find it a bit too wet unless baked, and way more work than opening a package of Kanjac and giving it a rinse.
Day 40 – 1/5 - 143.6
Day 41 – 1/6 - 144.6 - Plan is to eat everything in sight this weekend of staying home and off of my feet. I will log it all, but not going to try to keep calories low. About to have my last workout this morning for a few days.
Day 42 – 1/7 - 142.8 - I had some activity before my medical procedure, tomorrow's weight could be quite different.

I want to see how much I can lose, starting off with something relatively easy, 50 grams a day. Each 20 day block I want to increase the amount I lose each day. Goal day is calculated using 7 day averages most recently and a month ago.
Day 01 27-Nov 88.2 kg, goal day in 715 days, so I overate, but that's alright because I always overeat the day I restart my weight loss
Day 02 28-Nov 88.5, goal day in 780 days, I overate again, I guess this is why my weight loss is very slow
Day 03 29-Nov 88.2, goal day in 650 days, I ate too much unfortunately
Day 04 30-Nov 88.1, goal day in 630 days, I didn't overeat, but I think I didn't eat below maintenance
Day 05 1-Dec 87.6, goal day in 660 days
I was doing well throughout the day then I bought a large bag of chips unexpectedly
Day 06 2-Dec 88.7 goal day in 850 days, and I bought sausage and chips in the evening, I guess I should have predicted that, rather than overeating. I will see if I can eat below maintenance everyday until I can get back on track

Day 21 17-Dec 88.1 So I'm in Singapore briefly right now and the obesity rate is 9% compared to New Zealand's 35%. It's quite a noticeable difference. It's a constant reminder that if I am ever to achieve my goals I'm going to have to start today. So I'm going to aim for a 3 grams per day trendline reduction on my weights spreadsheet graph today. Tomorrow will be 6 grams a day etc etc. Currently it's 4.6 grams per day although that number will jiggle up and down a lot which is fine.

So we shifted hotels and I only ate apples and crackers today, not a good menu plan, hopefully we get into a proper food buying routine soon

Day 28 24-Dec 88.5 I had some sugary food today, which means that I went about 5-6 days without sugar, a huge achievement for me. My weight loss is happening, but it's quite slow, Christmas day is tomorrow and I expect to gain a bit then. So things are happening slowly
Day 29 25-Dec 87.7 trendline 22 g/day which is okay
Christmas Day saw me eating a lot of cake (plus some chickpeas surprisingly) and not much else. I guess I gained weight today. That's fine, thankfully Christmas comes only once a year. I want to speed up my weight loss, let's see if I can do that.
Day 30 26-Dec 86.9 New Low trendline 32 g/day which is good
I'm having trouble figuring out what to eat here, it's hard to get quality food without walking a while, I guess I'm used to driving to the supermarket, now I don't have a car. I didn't expect to have such simple problems causing me to slow down my weight loss.

Another day of not so good control of what I'm eating, it's hard to figure out how much to eat/how much hunger to tolerate when you're eating food you're not used to. I guess I just need to keep trying until I'm successful, rather than "taking a break" as I have done in the past.

I don't want to jinx it but I had a sugar fest before the turn of the year, a packet of M&Ms 2 minutes before midnight and now I'm doing well, still sugar free. From today onwards I'll ask whether I have lost weight, hopefully the answers are mostly 'yes'.

Today I managed to keep control of my eating, it's hard because I have tracked my intake on an app for so long that I need to learn the skill of eating less (without eating too little).
Day 42 7-Jan 86.9 lowest weight in 12 days so my controlled eating went well
I guess I ate more than yesterday, so did I eat under maintenance? Maybe.

Day 19: 12/14 - 230.2 Still testing negative for Covid at home but not feeling well. Plan to quarantine till Sunday which means skipping out on a number of holiday parties. Skipped ZTA holiday party.

Day 34: 12/29 - 233 - Mom’s plan was cancelled so she too moved from my sister’s to my house since my sister had plans to leave town.

Day 36: 12/31 - Got mom on a plane and her pipes did not freeze … no water leaks at the camp house! I paid someone to turn off the water and drain it due to the freezes … worth it since many of the community had issues.

Day 38: 01/02 - 231.9 - DD & family moved to her husband’s family’s home since it is closer to work and day care (in town) until the Houston inspectors can review the construction work to replace the pipes and reattach to city sewage.
Well the scale is NOT pretty at all. My annual goal totally took a side trip in 2022.

Day 39: 01/03 - 230.2 (@ 2am) - Back on track. Journal every bite, 80oz water, AF, packed away all the Christmas decor into the attic (lots of stairs). Decided that for January I will strive for lower carb days (not Keto) and cut out candy, cookies and bread but retain rice, potatoes and pasta in my menu planning.
Day 40: 01/04 - 230.4 (@ 4am) - Journal, 80oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, walked to the library and the mail box twice (3.2 miles).
Day 41: 01/05 - 229.2 (@ 4:30am) - Journal, 64oz water, 2 wine, played with granddaughter all day which led to no snacking and pushing her new little tikes car .3 miles. DH bought groceries while I was out. REALLY wanted cookies after dinner but gave myself a good talking to and had black coffee instead.
Day 42: 01/06 - 229.0 - Journal, 48oz water, AF, Strength Training 1 hr, no walk. Broke my bread plan … avocado rye toast w/ poached egg for breakfast and then ate the biscuit with Popeye’s fried chicken at lunch. But skipped rice with the gumbo and had no bread or crackers with it for dinner to try to lower my carbs for the day instead of tossing the towel in completely. DH thought I was crazy skipping the rice for the gumbo but it felt good to make that tradeoff given my choices earlier in the day.
January Total Walking Miles = 3.5 / 100
Day 43: 01/07 - 230.0 - Journal, 80oz water, 3 glasses wine, 3 mile walk. DD & family are still displaced from their home due to the sewage line and moved back out to live with us this weekend to give her husband’s family a break. Big steak dinner last night last night with lots of veggies and wine.
