WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2022

Beth - So glad y'all are OK! Those images of the snow are incredibly scary.
Debbie - So glad you're healing well in spite of your environment. I grew up in a house that was saturated with anger and contempt and pain. It is... corrosive to all concerned. Everything Beth said was spot on. You deserve to be treated better.
Annie - I do the same thing with clothes... I pitch them in the washer and dryer, and if they survive, then I keep them! I don't want anything in my closet that I cannot wash. Please note, though, I'm not exactly a fashionista. My winter wardrobe purchase this year consisted of two long-sleeve T-shirts.
Today is better than yesterday--had a hard time getting ahead of the pain yesterday, but today is already better. Last night, put in a Walmart delivery order for this morning, and they'll be here in about 30 minutes, so I need to go open the gate. Corey's sleeping in here on his last day off... I need to unplug the gate alarm before I go down there--the alarm is right outside our bedroom door, and I don't want to wake him.
There - that's all done, plus gathered up all the trash and took that down, one more thing he won't have to do when he gets up. I love seeing him relax. He works a hard, physical job, and making sure he gets time to rest and enjoy these days off makes me happy. And... it's time to go make me another cup of tea.
Love y'all,

Rebecca - It was sweet of you to ask about the cards If you can find a way to message me on here with your email address, I can send you the photos I took for you to do what you want with. I do think, though, that it would be great if you could do something similar yourself. You could copy mine if you need ideas, but all you really need is good watercolour paper and a child's paint hox. Plus a bigger brush than usual. I had never tried that kind of thing before, so I'm sure you can produce something worthy of a card. We had some lovely robins on some wrapping paper, which I might experiment with. And I'm going to do some more spring flowers in card ratios. It's great to have fun.
This week our painting session will be on our own, but next Tuesday all the kids are joining us.
DH asked me to join him on his afternoon walk today, so I went out with him down to the sea. Beautiful sunny day! The tide was in and big brown waves were pounding the sea wall. We caught some spray. I love the sound of the waves on the pebbles. Loads of people on their Boxing Day stroll.
I'm going to watch a film I recorded last week, Shiva Baby, while DH goes into the other room to watch football.
Then tonight is a Christmas special of Death In Paradise.
Skate for dinner. Yum.

Lanette, I loved the cat picture in your spoiler. I texted it to Jake and he howled with laughter.
Barbie in NW WA
Barbie - I know. First thing my cat did when she decided to come back in the house was to take over MY recliner! Darn cats. Glad Jake enjoyed it - I could hear my DH laughing too.
Looks like Earl should have stayed in the manger, lol:
Annie - so glad your dad didn't go out for midnight Mass. I'm ready to get back to "normal" routine too. Good luck with that shoulder.
Did I mention I checked out "Farmers Only" the match up group this fall? I was missing the farm and wondering if any widowed Kevin Costner types that lived close by were looking for a friend to help them feed chickens, lol. Well, all of a sudden my email is filled with photos of hairy old geezers with fishing rods, beer bellies, working out at the gym hoping to find that 40 year old body that left them 30 years ago, etc. Probably nurse/purse seekers.
Thing is, I didn't put in anything about me. I unsubbed (though I never really signed up) and blocked that site. Good gravy.
I am hoping they have either Slimfast or Metrical (remember that?) at the brunch this morning.

Hey everyone! Been reading, but every time I would begin a response/post, I would get interrupted by my family and 2 hours later be trying to finish the post... I love my family; and I would never wish for alone time, because I firmly believe God has a wicked and weird sense of humor or way of answering prayers. My wish for alone time might end up with dead family members, which I don't want. BUT it would be nice if my rest/relaxation time could be uninterrupted time. Maybe I need to do this type of thing in a room with a door that locks?
Anyway, Christmas Eve (or as my son calls it, Colinmas, because it is his birthday) and Christmas Day were nice. On the Eve, I made Salmon and wild rice cups, shrimp, salad, (and a personal meatloaf and potatoes for hubby because he doesn't like seafood). On the day, I made a big brunch of cheese quiche, chorizo/gouda (and veg) omelet, cinnamon rolls, and salad. Brunch was at 11am, so we ate and opened gifts. Just the three of us. We snacked our way through the rest of the mealtimes this holiday weekend. Popcorn, apples, cucumbers, nuts, cheese. Little bits and bites here and there. Minimal cooking/baking for me.
I have only two days left of my week off. SO...today and tomorrow decorations will come down, house will be cleaned, I will be planning my activities for the three days that I work this week and for the week after I get back from Texas. I also need to make out my meal plan and grocery list for the week after I return. DH has said he will do the shopping for me. That will be interesting. lol
Joaquin vibered with me yesterday (Miguel and my daughter have a "bug"). He asked me to help him make a doll that he wants. SO...I took pictures of all of DD's old Barbies that she has here and asked him which one he wants me to bring to TX with me. He chose a couple of them and we are going to paint them to look like a female Green Lantern that he wants. I found one at Walmart, but it isn't the one he wants. The one he wants (he saw at school because a friend has it) is a custom made ($200) one. That is not happening. So I suggested they make one for him. My SIL majored in Art and hand painted Joaquin's nursery and also his little helmet that he wore as a baby. But no, Joaquin has it in his mind that I am the only one that can do this. (This will be interesting) I think I will bring a third doll for Miguel. Because I KNOW, once Joaquin has one, Miguel will want one as well.
So, I will also get my bag packed for the trip (I leave for the airport at 4am Saturday morning), I need to tuck 3 Barbies and some good paint brushes in there. SIL says that he has acrylic paints we can use.
The blustery blizzardy weather made some beautiful pictures this past weekend! Putting them in a spoiler:
All pictures of the power of wind, temperature, and water. Winter is so much more dramatic than summer, around here. I love that.
Machka and Debbie- You both are healing so nicely!
Lanette- I love the Earl meme! I am sure Earl thought that manger looked extremely comfortable!
Lisa- Love the pic of Levi. Oh, the ecstasy of sugar/sprinkles!
Allie- Miles is such a cutie! His love for you is evident!
Heather- Christmas with the family looks wonderful! I am still waiting on delivery of your book. Hopefully, with the weather clearing it will arrive today or tomorrow!
Well, it has taken me an hour to get this posted. So, I need to get up and get busy around my house. Sending hugs and all of the love to all that I have not mentioned. You are all in my thoughts daily! ttfn xoxox KJ (Kelly)8 -

December just flew by! I overextended myself and couldn’t keep up with the thread, all of my projects and work. Next year I will plan better.
I finished 3 more stockings and managed to have them all reach their destinations by Christmas Eve. I am still waiting for my brother and his wife to send videos of when they opened theirs but they have been without power since the 23rd. Luckily they have wood heat, we’re already planning a BBQ Christmas dinner and I’m sure my brother has out grandfather’s old Coleman lanterns. It sure is frustrating though.
We battled frozen pipes and cars the end of last week. Finally on Christmas Eve, against DH’s pessimism, I went and bought a heater to put under the trailer. When we returned from Christmas at Kaitlyn and Brodey’s around 10pm the drain was thawed and flowing. I only argued for 4 days that that is what we needed to do. He will tell me his memory sucks but when I try to tell him how we did something previously he argues that I’m wrong. 😂. I laugh at it because if I don’t I would want to smack him with a frying pan. He bought me three nice heavy ones for Christmas. 😅
I had asked for a record player for Christmas, I was envisioning a suitcase style portable one. I should have known to be specific. I asked for a Ford and got a Cadillac. He bought me a turntable that I need speakers to go with. I am returning it and buying what I wanted.
I had a beautiful Christmas, we invited a friend and her dog to spend Christmas with us, she is alone and needed a happy Christmas for a change. She only has a brother left and although he invites her for everything he criticizes her the whole time she visits. He is very well to do and she struggles constantly, when she visits she is treated like an intruder. She thanked me last night for inviting her for a peaceful Christmas with no tears.
I have been reading along and staying caught up, but haven’t taken the time to make notes.
So much I wanted to comment on. Debbie and Machka I hope you both heal fast and can put this behind you.
Debbie my cousin did not get the support she needed when going through the same procedures. It has been a long 2 years of rebuilding their marriage and funnily enough it was his Mother and her needs that broke the camels back. It has been long and strenuous, I hope you get some help soon from him. I worry about you.
I have missed conversing with you daily and hope that I can get back into routine now that the rush is over.
I am waiting for DH to wake up off the couch and move to the bed. I will do some puttering and such while he rests for his night shift tonight.

Well my dad bought himself a fitness watch that needs an Android smartphone. His cell phone is only a simple cell phone. So he wants me to make it work with his Fire tablet, or Windows computer. Not gonna happen. I've tried four times to tell him so, but he only listens to me when it's good news. This is not my favorite part of Christmas.
Meanwhile my sister sent my mom a lap robe with a letter from her embroidered on it. It made Mom weepy.
I had a second cup of tea, and next up is some exercise!

My Subaru’s radio is acting all weird right now. If I connect my phone, the radio randomly dials people, changes radio stations, and other weird stuff. Car dialed my DMD 6 times! Lol so, I had to call her for real and apologize, LOL. Did have a nice conversation with her though.
DH is making lamb for dinner which is about all we are doing for Christmas. Heard from friends and relatives this morning, so nice day overall. Plus, 2 days ago it was 19 degrees in the middle of the day, yesterday was 40, today is already 50!
Merry Christmas to all!

We are so fortunate here. Two days ago it was fourteen degrees with many inches of snow. This morning it is 44 degrees and the snow is nearly gone. I set my boots with YakTrax aside and returned to regular winter walking shoes I'll walk by myself this morning before dawn and then with my Sunday walking friend at 9:30. I finished listening to "A Christmas Carol" and am now listening to "A Child's Christmas in Wales". I hope you will all be safe today.

thank you so much ladies, for the comments and support.
Things won't change until I make some big changes.
I guess he got off early. Wasn't supposed to be off until noon. He walked in and woke me up about 8:45(I was awake but not up yet) and handed me food- it was left overs from what he took to his mom's from Denny's. Didn't say a word. I thought he was just dropping it off and going back to work. I started to feed the inside cats, thinking he was leaving and going back to work. Nope- he came back in. Started washing the cat dishes or something then went in his room. Hasn't said a word to me and he has been home for over an hour now.
I am just leaving him there- not getting into it with him. Not in the mood for dealing with his petty behavior.
Daycare girl should be here any minute- I have some projects ready for her to keep her busy.
Thanks again!!
Have a wonderful day.

Belated welcome @Highmtnlady68!
Rebecca, thought of you yesterday as I balanced the checking account to the penny. So satisfying! Was a bit of a struggle due headache from whatever bug is trying to get me down ;} Now on to reconciling and paying the Visa bill love your and Barbie’s snow pics.
Rita your “snow on the mountains (but not where I am)” gratitude made me LOL too. Ditto in spades.
Lisa thanks but no history of anemia. Think the fatigue was precursor to whatever bug got me Thursday night. Flaming sore throat, earache and “stupid head” since then. Spent yesterday and today in bathrobe. Joe is relieved there will be no holiday dinner ;} If the fatigue persists after the bug departs will definitely ask the doc to test. Thanks for thinking of me! the pics of sleeping grands after “accidental” hike
Still skimmin’ only through pg 48 but head is pounding so it’s back to bed with an aspirin.
Merry Christmas one and all!

Yay! You are officially in the " penny pal club" lol! And with a headache too, that's commendable!
I looked at the register since we had $130 left last Thursday, and we spent $220! I had a list too! I was buying extra because it was snowy outside, plus I did the "I deserve this" when I was reasoning with my mind if I should get it or not. The deserving thoughts won ever blasted time! It didn't help that husband was buying too!
I banish your headache, "mumbling some weird incantation*..... 😜🙃🤗🎶🎵🎵🎶

Husband and I went to the on base galley for our Christmas chow.😁. The info on Facebook showed a huge turkey, but there was no turkey. There was Cornish hens, and slices of roast. I had a bit of both. No pie, but I had a sugar cookie. Loaded mashed potatoes, and then a salad plate. It was a $10 worth husband stated. We came home and then at 4 pm we video chatted with Guam son, and middle son and family. It was great!
I Recd a nice canvas bag with the Oklahoma state/snail mail pen pal guy/ Washington state from one of my pen pals. Then a tag that was embroidered an R with an anchor from the admins of my Facebook group Navy mom strong. I put it on the book bag. Then a sweet handmade gnome couple, that my cousin had made. The Viking hatted one is Lee and I have the armored boobie. She admitted that my character did have braids and was holding a chefs knife, but the kiln ruined them. She is very talented! I love them! Athena looked great in the kimono and pretty umbrella uncle Galen gave her.💖🤗
The photo of all of them plus dogs is great. It was a nice day!
Tomorrow is my kidney doc appointment. Hope all goes well.
Today is our Asian feast! Its crisp honey chicken, chicken fried rice, and pot stickers. I will only cook half of each box, so we can have another feast later next year.🙃👍🏻
Hugs ladies, especially Machka and Debbie!

I will have to go back and look at who was buying the drum set for one of the grands! I wondered if that was a big hit!
One caregiver made a sweater for my husband that fits like a gown with ties and has a Christmas tree on it that lights up. The other caregiver purchased several clothing items for us. These caregivers did not have to do this and I am struck by their caring and generosity. Their gifts mean the world to me. They caught me by surprise!
Just relaxing today. The sun is out and pouring into the house. That can make all the difference in spirit on a cold dayl
My table really did look nice at the luncheon on Saturday. I am very with this!

This was Christmas Eve at DOS. Their children and grandchildren. Which I realized later is 2 short of being half of our children. Was a very nice day8 -
Rori--What a great friend you are.
Kylia--Great to see you post. Missed you.
Beth--Glad you are safe and warm. The weather this year is nasty. We have finally gotten about 0. But the wind just keep blowing.
Carol--Sorry to hear of your family's loss.
Beth--I think you said it just fine. Debbie deserves to be treated well all the time. We all do.
Been a nice weekend. Christmas eve with DOS and his family. Then church Christmas eve and Christmas day. Spent the rest of the day just relaxing and doing stuff at home. Today back to work. Next Sunday we will have Christmas with other DYS and DOD. Other 3 children live out of state and so just talked over FB yesterday and watched them open gifts.
Weather is finally warming up starting today and next couple days. Just wish the wind would go down.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE4 -
Weather is wet and windy today. We lost power for about an hour and a half this morning but it is on now. Hope it stays that way. DD is off today and we need to repair some damage to the fence of the goat pen. Don't want them visiting the neighbors.

Debbie and Machka - glad you are both doing well.

I did my yoga Yay! My shoulder is okay so far Yay!
But on the eating side, I forgot we have steak tonight that was for Christmas Day, except that my Aunt fed us so well we postponed. So I skipped my mango smoothie and tilapia in favor of the celebration steak. I will be over on calories but that's okay.
I think the phone solution is that my mom will swap phones with my dad. She has a smartphone she doesn't use. I'm not looking forward to this set up. He can't remember how to text or dial the phone, but he thinks I can teach him to use the smartwatch app. Harrumph.
So things are going well.

Could he be resentful/jealous of your friendship with your ex-husband? I have been wondering if that could be a contributing factor, especially since his mother is unreasonably demanding. What you have been describing sounds as if your husband feels angry at & resentful of the two most important people/women in his life - his mother & his wife.
I am so sorry you are dealing with this; it is hard not to be adversely affected by a spouse who seems to be seething with resentment, but unable or unwilling to articulate it. It's uncomfortable to read about it; I can only imagine what it must be like to be living it.
My first husband, the father of my son, was difficult to live with - he expected me to make his world right, interpreted simple questions as criticism, and sabotaged me with passive aggressiveness time and time again. I was unhappy but not good at communicating with him; I was afraid of pissing him off and I got secondary gain by being the martyr. My neuroses contributed to the toxicity.
Eventually he had an affair, and I was unable to forgive him.
We had a lot of therapy, couples and individual, and many conversations over the years; we have both grown up considerably and now treasure each other as co-grandparents and friends. He is still intolerant and impatient, but it doesn't affect me at all anymore because I have time and distance on my side, and I don't have to go home with him, or be a captive audience in the car with him.

Fri. morning did some HIIT and then drove to Jess’. Couldn’t do any formal exercise, but I did go for a walk in her block for at least an hour each day. It was COLD (at least for NC) so I only walked for an hour. Had it been nicer weather, I probably would have walked for longer, but it wasn’t. I’m constantly amazed that this coat that I got when she was in Iowa is so very light but how very warm it is. The only thing is that I wish it had snaps in addition to the zipper. Most mornings I have a banana (or two like today) before I go out for my walk.
She is one of those people who waits until the last minute. So Fri we were shopping. At that point they only had 2 containers of the lobster bisque (the only soup that Vince will eat) so we got those and three crab corn. Not bad, I had one.
Christmas was nice. I honestly don’t think Jess would have been ready on time had I not helped her. She’s always saying about how she can do the time so well. Well, she’s learning. I did find out some things that she doesn’t have (like a toaster or ice cream scoop or serving utensils). Got some nice appliances. Now to try them out and as long as they work, the old ones go to the Salvation Army.
Denise called on Christmas day. Unfortunately, we didn’t talk to her much, she had to go.
When I got back from my walk on Sat. I went to turn on the kitchen light. Then Colby told me that they didn’t have power. It did get cold in the house pretty fast.
Karen – I’m sorry for your son’s family.
Jess got Vince the same book that I got him so I’ll return my copy. Gotta take it to Kohl’s hopefully, tomorrow
Debbie – use any excuse you need to not to go to dh’s mom’s house. You deserve it.
Rori – so glad you’re safe from that harrowing trip to the airport! What a wonderful friend you are!
Here’s hoping everyone had a great christmas Eve and christmas Day
Kylia – great to see you. Isn’t it great when a pharmacy is in different areas of the country? We get some of our prescriptions from WalMart and others from CVS and both places are in FL when we’re down there.
Allie – what a thoughtful gift from Tracy and Kyle. Love seeing Myles
Apologies to anyone that I might have missed saying something to. Know that I was reading. I’m tired from the weekend and so am skimming to a certain extent. I usually don’t stay up as long as I did there.
Carol – so sorry about SIL’s mom passing
About the only thing I use checks for are my donation to the church.
Jess told us that she is on call this year, not next year, but she will be oncall again the following year. Guess we’ll do the same thing – she’ll host Christmas Eve
Debbie – I agree with everything Beth said
Annie – I do the same thing. If something says “dry clean only” so many times I put it in the wash. If it shrinks, then I figure I wasn’t meant to have it
KJ – have a great trip.
Love all the pictures
Rosemarie – we got electric drums for PJ. From what we understand, he’s already banged on them. I did think they came with headphones, but I was wrong. We should probably get some for him when we go up there in June. I have a suspicion that Denise doesn’t hold onto our gifts for PJ until Christmas but gives them to him when she gets them. That’s OK, because it makes the gift more special rather than getting them with everything else. What a wonderful thing those caregivers did!
I am really bushed. Going to get to bed early.
