Hello to all of you who will be supporting and encouraging me this month as I meet life's challenges and continue my journey to health and fitness. This is a path best followed with others.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. We talk about all sorts of things that impact our personal wellness journeys.
Please sign your post with a name or nickname and a location either specific or general to make things more personal and easier to remember.
Don't forget to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.
The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.

Watching Elton John concert. DD is spending the night at the warehouse where she works. Snowy and icy here. Choir was cancelled tonight because of the bad weather. DD is trying to work as much overtime as possible. She wants the money for a planned trip to Madagascar in June and was afraid if she came home she would not be able to get back to work in the morning. She took things with her and was planning to spend the night with a friend but the friend had a pipe freeze and burst so no water at her house hence the night spent at the warehouse. Hope she is somewhat comfortable.
Katla - glad you are able to move closer to DH.
Pip - you are getting those doggies in shape.
Had a mammogram 2 weeks ago and now they want me back for another mammo on the right breast but not scheduled until the middle of Jan so they must not be too concerned. They told me to plan on 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Sounds like a lot of waiting to me.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA9 -
Allie - Sounds like a positive visit
Carla - So happy your Mom went along easily.
Lisa - you need to write a book about how you learned to sleep. I’m suffering terribly.
Katla - I’m so happy for you, what a difference that will make.
Barbie - thank you for a new month.
Sue - glad your daughter is safe and off the roads.
My heart melted a bit today, my grandson read to my granddaughter. The book was called “Merry Christmas Amelia Badelia”. My daughter pointed out that this was their Auntie’s book given to her when she was Michaela’s age. My how the years fly.

Barbie, thank you for another month!
Rebecca, I'm so glad that your surgery went well and hope that you have a speedy recovery!
Katla, I'm so happy that you will be moving so much closer to your hubby! It will be so nice for you to go visit whenever you want instead of having to rely on others to get you there.
Tracey, so sweet that your grandson is reading to your granddaughter!
Our three year old granddaughter has started calling me gramma! Well, gamma, but I'll take it! lol I've been mommy, mama, baba and a few others that I can't remember, but when I was leaving after getting them home today, she said "bye gamma!"
Our grandson and I played a couple of board games today, sorry and trouble. It was fun! He was half watching the tv and I had to keep reminding him when it was his turn, but that's okay. He was sort of sad when I told him I was taking them with me, but I said I would bring them back. The problem with leaving stuff there is that it gets lost, or parts of it get lost. If it's in my car then all the bits will be there when we want to play again!
My fingers don't seem to want to cooperate tonite, so I think I'll bid you all a good night. It's about that time anyway, need to get my rest in order to contain the three year old again tomorrow! lol
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Thank you so much Barbie for your steadfast service . I have been in this thread for over ten years! It is a very big part of my life and I often dream about one or other of you. Last night I dreamt about Tracey!
DH is still jealous of you all and still thinks some of you must be axe murderers in disguise.
Lunch today with G. I will be meeting her at Brighton Station. Then we will walk down to the fish restaurant. She might not catch the earlier train because she has a hair appointment, but she will let me know. Either way, she won't be late, but I would like to get there as early as possible for the best table. Oh well.
Must wash my own hair!
Lots of Amazon coming today, including the last of the small foodie presents for my son etc, and another thermal, long-sleeved top for me. I'm wearing them 24/7. Lovely!

I expect to start my move in just a few hours. The distance is not too far but I suspect it will take several trips to get there and start to settle in.
DH and I will both be happier. We will be able to visit one another every day. My new apartment is in a building that is an easy walk to the the building where DH lives and works toward better health.
I toured one of the apartments that was empty last week, and it is likely my new home for the next while. I am excited. It is time to decorate for Christmas and meet my new neighbors.

Barbie-thanks for link. I have been extremely busy this week so not much screen time but I woke up early this am and instead of doing something for work-I caught up so I could start the month on the new link. Good start to my day!
Health Issues-sorry to hear about the skin cancers, colds, things unknown. We are fortunate that some of these things can be caught and treated early.
Rebecca-congrats on successful surgery. Make sure to follow recommendations/restrictions too. have successful recovery.
Katla-so good to hear you can move closer to DH. It sounds like perhaps you are moving into the same continuum of care community.
Allie-sounds like a good visit with kidney doctor. Did he have any advice for the pain you have been experiencing?
Short day in office today. Will go in for an hour or so then go to Columbus for committee meeting. Afterwards taking afternoon off and stopping by casino (it is my mindless distraction). Tomorrow have budget hearing in morning and plan to take rest of day off. Need to use some vacation and personal time before end of year.
Have a good Thursday-one day closer to weekend!

I posted this in January 2022 with the following comment:
I was struck by the phrase "joy in the waiting" as I feel like most of my life since March 2018 has been waiting. And I'm not known for my patience.
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10852237/women-ages-50-for-january-2022/p1
And I continue to wait.
But while waiting, a lot has happened this year.
2022 GoalsMy 2022 goals are a continuation of my 2021 goals.
Upcoming Appointments
Education/Career
Medical
House
Office
Computer
Garden
Spiritual
Fitness/Sports
Cycling
Audax Tasmania
Recreation
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (sleeping room, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania also become more specific as they go along. There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
The goal it to improve my fitness level.
Garden is a very small category because that's my husband's domain but I'd like to finish weeding the place and get some flowers and other plants going to choke out the weeds.
The goal is to have a relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Medical is mostly my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition.
The goal is to keep him as healthy as he can be.
Education/Career ... little things like becoming really good at SQL, brushing up on VB, and learning data analysis software.
The goal is to expand my skillset.
I've got a new year to work with ... I've got a list of things to chip away at. If I just finish organising the sleeping room. If I just finish the weeding. If I only make a start at organising the files on my computer. If I just start working on things, I've made progress.
At some point this month, I'll likely comment on the progress made on my goals.

Thank you for our new thread Barbie!
Welcome December. I can't believe how quickly you've arrived!
Wish I had some list to follow and post like last month. That was just wonderful. Thank you to whomever shared that. Off to work in my cave. Have a great Thursday.

Katla ~ So very happy for your move to a close by apartment! I think you will be so much happier!

Thank you Barbie...
Heather I have a plaque in my home that states my all your weeds be wildflowers. Now when I see what others call weeds I realize it shows that the soil is more healthy. When a lawn looks like a golf course it means they are using chemicals. Someone approached my sister about building a golf course on their land as a way to attract more buyers to their lots. They turned them down flat. The land has a number of natural springs and they knew how badly the golf course would pollute them. I try to keep DrewB off lawns where I can tell they use chemicals. You could tell your association we have quit using these chemicals for their and their pets health. It also protects the bees and other pollinators.

Thank you Barbie! Always love the clean slate of a new month.
My goals for November were:
✅ - Be lighter: I was 164 on the first of October and 154 this morning. Still don't recommend how it's coming off, but I'm nearer to my goal than I've been in well over a decade. Eventually, I hope to settle down into a maintenance weight of 145 to 150, but am not setting a time goal.
✅- Be healthier: My annoyingly incremental health progress is finally beginning to show some results. Lots of symptoms have diminished, if not disappeared. I'm not out of the woods yet, but I can see the edge of the treeline!
✅- Stick to the budget: Yes, indeedy, we did. However, the biggest temptation of all has just opened up. Will explain later...
Pleased to have met my goals for November, and really enjoyed the gratitude list! I need to start a gratitude journal again, it helps me maintain my equilibrium when life gets a little hard.
My first two goals for December will be the same, but it's possible we're going to blow the third one wide open. I will share more later, I promise.
I woke up from a dream I was helping the Masterharper recover from his heart attack, while my fire lizards circled my head... If you know the Dragonriders of Pern series, you'll know the reference. One of my absolute favorite sci-fi/fantasy many-book series. There were 18 or 20 books in the end before Anne McCaffrey died and her son took over. I've read them all many, many times. Not lately, though, and not sure what sparked it.
Hope everyone's day/is was lovely, and welcome to December!
Much love to all,
Lisa in Arkansas3 -

Good morning ladies!
Thank you Barbie!
Katla I'm so happy for you, to be near your DH again. Wonderful!
I lost one of my paper bills. I simply must restore order in my room. The task is overwhelming.
On the happy side, I got new socks and underwear from Amazon on Black Friday. I wasn't sure about ordering clothes online, but they are marvelous. 😊
Today is a great day for excellent diet and exercise!

LISA ~ Congrats on your weight loss!
As most of you know, Georgia has milder winters than many of our Northern neigbors. I just got my gas heating bill and it was more than $20 more than it was in Nov of last year. Making me wonder what it will be during Jan and Feb.
Carol in GA4 -
I have been lurking a bit on and off for a while. Just trying to really start focusing on my whole health. Everyday do something for my physical body, my mind, my spirit, my creative side and do something productive. Yesterday was a good day and so is today! Onward !

OK, as promised, our possible budget buster.Corey and I have lived in our current home for more than four years now, and during that time have seen quite a few people come and go from the little house that sits just in front of ours, near the highway. When we first bought our house, we asked the owners of the little house if they would be interested in selling it, and they told us they couldn't, it was in some kind of trust. They rented it (probably under the table and off the tax books) to a series of folks. The last couple had been there for two years and finally evicted a couple weeks back.
We put up our privacy fence three years ago now because everyone who has lived in that house has been trashy beyond belief. I don't mean small trash, I mean mounds of it laying around the yard, piled up on the porch, just horrible. Occasionally they would set one of the piles on fire, scaring the crap out of me, and the stink was ungodly, with burning plastic, etc. Throw in dogs that weren't being taken care of or cleaned up after, and the place is past eyesore, it's a health hazard. We couldn't change the situation, so we just put up a fence so we wouldn't have to look at it. Made me feel better. Here are a couple of recent pictures, but it's much worse than these pictures show. I refused to walk into their yard to take a picture of the rest.
The blue square is our house, which you can see past the car in the second picture, and the green shading is the 11 acres of land we own now. The red house and the area around it are about half an acre. And whatever the legal hiccup was that meant they couldn't sell it, that has apparently been resolved. The owner has been there all week trying to clean up the ungodly mess, bless him, and stopped Corey when he came home Tuesday night to tell him they were selling it. THAT is the budget buster I was talking about.
We want that piece of land--the house is basically a gut job, and possibly a demolish job. We can put together the funds to buy it, but it will probably require putting ourselves back in debt. Much depends, of course, on what they're going to try to get for a price. I can't imagine they will offer it for as little as we would like, but now we just have to wait and see.
I'm not really good at "wait and see."
TL;DR - The house in front of us is up for sale... and we want it.
Cheers!

Go for it Lisa! You can let it to nice people and get an income. It's an investment!

Had a nice lunch with G. She came on the early train.
I had hake in caper sauce, as usual, with a bit of salad and a few boiled potatoes. She had fish and chips. I had a small glass of white wine.
Afterwards we went up to M&S and I bought some gluten free millionaire's shortbread for Edie if she comes to do the tree.
I saw a beautiful black, sparkly skirt, perfect for cruises, which G also loved, but they had completely sold out!!!!
Then I came back on the bus and stopped off in the Mediterranean shop to buy my favourite frozen artichoke hearts, plus some stuffed olives for Saturday when our guests arrive. 😋 I have some posh crisps in the cupboard.
Got back to find that DH had trimmed the lilac tree and put up the two new bird feeders. One for seeds and one for peanuts. They are designed to be squirrel proof, as we have some very determined and clever squirrels!
My chilli tonight, from the freezer. Lovely salsa with avocado, crême fraiche, and a wild rice combo mix.
Love Heather UK xxxxxx
