Note to self, while watching Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, have Tumble and grooming tools handy, not wine and chocolates.
Welcome back @CMac060820 Chris in MA. Sorry for your loss, my friend T went through the same with her mom, moving her into assisted living just before Covid hit, then not being able to visit her or take her out to do things really contributed to her rapid decline. ((hugs)) Many here do not do the “friend” thing but have formed strong and lasting friendships on this thread. Hop on in!
Pip gentle, long distance hugs for Kirby and for you. Echoing others wishes for a quick and easy C-19 case.
Kay getting up after journaling, good way to link habits. “Another reminder that life is short and we never know” Truth this.
Allie sorry that cold is lingering. ((hugs))
Karen “Leek and Thistle”? Welsh and Scottish food???
Rita, wow, that crocheted Christmas tree, just wow.
Kim thanks for the Google hint. Yup, that food looks both wholesome and delicious. Karen and her brother are lucky to have such a resource.
Machka “service bell” meme. A real tea snorter.
Michele I’ve been calling our Roomba Maizey… maybe cuz she’s so amazing.
Speaking nof our Roomba, Tumble still barks when Maizey starts herself up. But Tumble comes in from the outside while Maizey is already working, she just sniffs a few times and accepts… that is until Maizey bumps into her. Shadow is much calmer about the situation but still backs Tumble up once she gets going
Still haven’t quite figured out the mapping. Named the “rooms” and told her to clean my bathroom, she cleaned the area of the bedroom leading to my bath then sent herself “home.”

Went clothes shopping with DD and came home with several pretty blouses. It was quite a treat and the clothes were on sale. 😊
DD also dropped me off with DH and we had dinner together. I gave him a cute fake Christmas Tree like the one I bought for myself at Walmart. It was the last one on the shelves. I was lucky. Afterwards DD drove me home. It was a good day for me.7 -
Katie - How right you are about life not to be taken for granted. It is coming up to the first anniversary of my friend L's partner dropping dead with an aneurysm, right in front of her. Then after Christmas her sister's husband dropped dead getting out of the bath. Similar thing. L's partner was 9 years younger than her.
I am going to ring her now for a chat.

Love all the puppy/kitty stories that you all keep us entertained with! Makes my day just imaginging the pets!

Sunday --
I spent quite a bit of time in the garden today, and my trench for the dry stream is dug!
The next step is to decide where I want pools and see if I need to widen parts of the stream. I did widen a couple places so those might be my pools, but I might need to make the bottom of it a bit more pool-like.
Then I will need to line it with plastic, fill it with basic gravel, and top it with river rock.
And then it'll be the decorative stuff ... the resin "pools" and the planting.
I also started digging another garden bed - it's a dirt area under bushes. Two sides of our property are lined with these bushes, but they're really thin in this one spot - probably a 6-8 feet long spot. I'm not sure why the bushes haven't grown up as thickly there, but I've discovered the soil is full of rocks and fine roots. The roots are like a carpet they're so thickly entangled. There are roots which come from the bushes, but I'm not sure about these other ones. However, I do know that this area also produces a lot of weeds.
I want to dig it up, remove some of the rocks and roots and add soil to make it more suitable for plants to grow. Then I'll probably put in some ground cover plants.
So I've had an upper body workout the last couple days!!
In the evening, we did some more decorating for Christmas.

I looked up Roomba's to see if they might be a vacuuming solution for us too.
Cough, cough!!
They're not cheap!
I suppose the next time I've got over $1000 sitting around and doing nothing, I'll think about it, but meanwhile, I think I can manage with the vacuum we've got. I did spend $18 on a set of vacuum bags for ours.

Went for my 5k this morning. Cold and grey outside, but NO WIND! The weather is set to get colder over the next week, so I was glad to fit one in. Bought 4 gorgeous croissants from an artisan baker for the next time when our guests do make it!
Later I rang L and she was a bit tearful because she had moved some antique stuff her partner had arranged on a shelf and replaced it with essential kitchen equipment. She felt guilty. Otherwise was doing well, making new friends and getting ready for her sister's visit on Tuesday. Apart from her drinking too much, all is well.
I'm sprouting Indian beans in the IP today. Unfortunately it takes too long for our meal tonight, but I can freeze the result for other occasions. I love it with fish.
Tonight is sea bass, (no spicy sprouted beans ), smashed butter beans with olive oil and garlic, and broccoli.
So now a bit of rowing and then a nap. The USA went out of the World Cup yesterday, and England are playing Senegal tonight. DH may go in his study, or may watch it on his laptop. I suggested he went over to my son's house, but I think the cold weather is putting him off.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -

Morning ladies
Well i took nyquil last night and slept well, woke up feeling so much better and got up and got the laundry in the dryer .and got the garbage together and folded laundry and wrapped a few presents..hey its great when you have a little bit of energy...4 -
Barbie, Thanks for the new month.
I found a Silver Sneakers face to face class near where I live. I went twice last week. It’s a good class with lots of lovely seniors, and a great instructor. So I’m hoping this change up and exercise will help me move forward over the holidays. I’m still exercising an hour every day, but now it’ll be very between the class, my exercise bike, and my archery practice.🤞the scale starts moving again.
Jeannie, Edgewood NM7 -
Good morning ladies!
Allie I'm glad you are feeling better!
Machka I'm sure your stream bed will be gorgeous!
Michele I would worry about that dripping water too!
Heather glad you have clear weather!
My aunt across the street has a very bad cold. We are all worried because she is my uncle's primary caretaker. But she is telling us to stay away.
I read a mystery by Louise Penny yesterday. She is so good at painting a somber mood. And writing characters for whom I feel fondness. Now I can take that one back to the library, and then switch to Kindle and Libby. And keep working on my birthday pile of paper books.
Not much on my agenda today. I have to answer a note from Chuck, a guy I met online. He is eager to meet me, and I am less enthusiastic. There's no warning signs, I'm just tired of the dance. I suppose I ought to give him a chance. It will be lunch in a public restaurant in broad daylight. Probably in Wilmington. Part of my problem is that I have been wearing my fat jeans, which means few of my attractive outfits will fit. My own fault, and I have turned the tide but not soon enough.
Anyway, back to gratitude. I am grateful for my fingernails. I finally found the right supplements to keep them growing well: Biotin, fish oil and calcium. I'm glad they look nice with very little care.
I am also grateful for my wrinkled brain. It has served me well through four degrees, and three careers. It has its flaws but overall I am very happy with it.
Have a great day ladies, and take care not to catch the illnesses going around. I will be wearing a mask if I go out at all.

I visited DH yesterday & shared dinner. He was tired after dinner. I sat with him in his room for awhile. Our daughter picked me up to bring me to my apartment. I’ll check on DH this morning. I hope he is resting and feeling better.5

OMGoodness, each year this village gets harder and harder to put up. My knees and back are just not up to the challenge anymore. Takes at least two-three days, but I love it so much and hubby loves it so much that he'd like it to be up all year! LOL! (NOT happening)
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? past, my gram, who taught me to be grateful for everything I have and to pray always, present, my new relationship with our oldest daughter, Lacy

4. Someone I am grateful for...My ex-boyfriend who helped me through some very tough times just by loving me. My parents who are so willing to cheerfully share their home. My college buddy who gets me out of my comfort zone of activities.

Hope everyone's Sunday is/was serene and peaceful.
Up four times last night, finally gave up at 5am. They can't all be good, and I've been quite spoiled of late with 7 to 8 hours of sleep and only one nocturnal trip to the bathroom. Hopefully tonight will be better...
Finished a couple loads of laundry, ensconced now in my recliner with the bingly-bangly noises emanating from the kitchen of Corey making his own breakfast - I made and ate mine almost two hours ago... The weather is strictly ca-ca, rain, sleet, dark and gray--supposed to be better this afternoon...
Putting together a few tentative meal plans for feeding five extra people. I'll probably get Corey to put together a big pan of lasagna, and then taco night for one night and hot dogs for the last night if they stay that long. They may just be here for two nights, or it may be three. No worries either way. Only two weeks away, and can't wait to see my grands!
Hope the weather's good enough for them to go hiking up in the Ozarks one day that they're here. Corey will go with them, which will leave me a few hours free from too many people, which is always a good thing.
Always wonderful to see new folks on the thread - and as someone said, don't worry if you don't get a ton of friend requests from this thread. For many of us, including me, this is our only interaction with others on MFP.
I have a book calling my name...
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Well heckums. After putting together bean dip for fellowship, the storm moved in so decided to forego in-person church. Wonder how half an avocado with a half cup of refried beans and an ounce of cheddar cheese will taste with tea for breakfast?

Well I sent a message to Chuck saying I would meet him for lunch in a week. I'm trying not to panic about what to wear. Or what the weather will bring. Or just getting back on this merry-go-round of dating. It will be fun. I like meeting guys.

Chris in MA: I remember you! Welcome back. You know how it is in this community: jump in anytime about just about anything.
Pip: LOVE the Lucy+Chispas+Santa photo! Will you giving your mom a print of it? Made me smile. They are lucky pups to have you.
Allie: Hugs and healing vibes coming down the wire.
Rita: That tree pattern is awesome. I love crochet but have just gotten myself some simple embroidery kits. A new skill to practice, especially at night. Especially to keep my hands busy.
Machka: “Service bell” so perfect. Once I take some photos will post the holiday decorating I applied to Mars’ kitty condo. He loves it. I am quite immpressed with how your dry stream is coming together.
So grateful I slept well last night after ushering for 11 hours yesterday. My back, still feeling the snow tubing oweee, was really barking during the entire second shift. But otherwise it was a very interesting day of music, children singing, brass bands playing to the city shoppers outside the doors as I was scanning tickets on a very sunny day. There was also a symphonic mélange with mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile, good conversations with colleagues, and even better people watching. Never dull moments at a busy, holiday entertainment venue. And, just about 90 seconds before we hit the pinnacle of every usher’s evening (one minute to curtain, afterwhich there is a holdout till first applause), the president of our company showed up, introduced himself, and said in his previous visits to the Boettcher Concert Hall, he had never left the lobby level. So, my colleague Lise and I, manning the third level, stopped for an impromptu chat with Dave explaining some of the nuances of the hall and our jobs and interactions with patrons. Then we hit that one minute mark, and we dropped him cold. He bid us a quiet good night mouthing the words "I can see you're BUSY". In the seconds I had with him, I recited the 20 second recap of how this job, putting me in healing proximity of live music, nature, and fun people, has been a positive force as I heal from grief. And, I meant it sincerely. Then, ZOOM! Had to dash to help a couple find their seats.
GRATITUDE with 🎅🏽🎄🎅🏽🎄 Attitude
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”. I can recite almost every line, and it still cracks me up.
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is on almost every channel, almost every hour…”
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? My memory. God forbid I should ever forget the lines to “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, and even worse, the good feeling I get from the story.
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? The character Clark Griswold. His story inspires me. He dreams of the perfect fun old fashioned family Christmas, but it goes sideways and but he remains positive and optimistic through the chaos and mess ups.
Stay well friends. We can do this.
