Miles and Big Sibby watching Home Alone..
I used to make peanut Brittle for my dad and Father in law
I didnt do to much today other than pick up stuff ffrom Shop Rite and go to UPS and go see Lil and come home.5 -
Messing up is not so terrifying any more.
Heather, I have stopped trying to be perfect (most of the time anyway....) and have started to relax my idea of perfect also. I think it's a priority choice, pick your fights etc.
Kim, I also wish you were closer, you would certainly be welcome at our table!
Rebecca, the peanut brittle sounds yummy and I just may have to try your recipe!
Allie, I'm so glad Carmine is taking an interest in their baby brother!
Pip, glad to hear that Kirby is doing okay and that the "new" pups are also doing okay.
House is decorated, just need to find an extension cord for a small tree that is in front of a window. It's one that a cousin of mine was making as a fundraiser for one of her kids. She roped her parents into helping also and my aunt decided that her three sisters also needed one and my mom was one of those sisters. It's very cute, I will try to remember to take a pic and post it once I find the cord. It really isn't much to look at when it's not lit up.
Listening to Boney M's 20 Greatest Christmas songs. I've always loved the album. Our DIL and DS gave me two tickets to see Boney M a few weeks ago. We did enjoy it although the warm up band was a little weird. Some techno pop group, as I said to hubby, they weren't horrible.... The lead singer of Boney M is still with the group, apparently she's the only original member, her name is Liz Mitchell and she's still got it!! She did a bit of a capella and WOW!
That's it for me for now, have to go figure out what I'm going to make for dinner tonight, sigh. The last couple of nights I planned, but kind of fell down for today. Oh well, it's not like there's no food in the house, I'm sure we will survive!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Well, the candy I bought for the stockings came in a flat box that won't fit. So I found stuff on Amazon for my Mom and Dad, but I'm a little stuck on mine. So far, all I've got is a new pair of dog trimming scissors with round tips. I might throw in the earbuds I got myself for my birthday. It's a strange problem trying to fill stockings. I looked at office supplies and hair and nail things. And toys. I don't use makeup. Candy is kind of the standard, but I bought enough of that. Oh well it's a minor problem.

Worked today then bowling. Ceramics tonight. BUT...no work tomorrow so that means I get to go to the gym to do a body pump DVD
After work took Jerry home and then went to WalMart. Got a gift certificate for Denise and a few other things.
Ordered a Christmas gift for PJ yesterday. We decided to get him an electric drum set. Denise might not appreciate it...but I think PJ will. It does have headphones so he doesn’t need to disturb the neighbors. And who knows? Maybe we have a budding musician in the family! Also got him a box of snacks (Goldfish, gummys, that sort of thing). We’re going to send her a voucher for gas that’s payable upon presentation in Newton. Who knows if this will do anything or not? I’m guessing not.
Kim – this year we’re going to have Christmas at Jess’. We usually have it here. Assuming we’re going to next year, I’ve already planned to ask two couples I know who will be alone on christmas Eve.
Karen Oregon – welcome!
Vicki – this Cookie Wall, does someone make the cookies?
We’re having the bowling Christmas party next Monday. I put down that I’d bring cheese. Wonder if Sam’s makes a cheese tray? Well, I have to go there Thursday to get coleslaw for the weekend, so I’ll look. I also need to get a Visa gift card for a friend of mine. I did find out that if you buy the gift card at Sam’s, most of the time it costs a bit less. Like a $30 gift card might only be $28. But it’s something, and something is better than nothing
Rebecca – I hear ya about not being keen on doing things for Christmas. For some reason, I have absolutely no ambition to write out the Christmas cards. I usually do that the first week or so of December, but I just have no desire to do it this year. I probably should get on the stick and at least send the ones out to the people I absolutely want to send one to. But first...soup kitchen Friday and since I’m down that way, I should buy stamps
Debbie – I’m so sorry to hear this. Well, at least you won’t have the surgeries until after the holidays and you can enjoy yourself (as much as you can). When I have to take a Sudafed, I’m up at 3:00 watching Mary Tyler Moore.
Heather – I find, too, that the older I get, the less little things bother me. Which is a refreshing feeling. Also, I feel like something doesn’t HAVE to be done asap, if it waits, it waits.
Went to ceramics. Vince picked up his Bumble (from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer), they fired my goldfish but we didn’t have room to bring it home tonight so I’ll bring it home tomorrow, and my shark. Will post pics tomorrow.

I am moving and it is in December—definitely unusual. The good news is that I will be very close to DH. I will also stay in touch with all of my friends here in Women 50+.7

I can't ever remember if it is actifed or sudafed that keeps me up so I dont take anything, just in case.
I need to check with the doctor about my sleep aid stuff if I can take that or if that is on the list of things to avoid for the week before surgery- he says no herbal suppliments or any of the things on a long list. Nothing that might be a blood thinner

Carla - I can’t wait to see your village tree! I can understand the work it takes to put these villages up. I’m on a FB group called Christmas Village House Hobbiest. I suggested they get an HGTV special for some of the collections.😃
Lanette - your fire starting reminded me of my first attempt at keeping a fire going.
A friend was sleeping over and my parents went to a Christmas party. (My grandparents lived right next door) it was the first time I was allowed to stay home for an evening. My friend and I fought all evening to keep the fire going but didn’t want to give in and go to Grampie for help. Instead we burned a whole box of kindling and paper. My Dad was not impressed when he got home. Of course, I hadn’t thought about flu fires or anything of the sort. That must be about 42 years ago right around this time of year.
I enjoy my alone walks too.
Heather - what a great way to spend an afternoon. You both did great jobs.
The miserable post is something I need to remind myself of.
I just started following you on Instagram. I will need to go through your posts. I looked at the first few and they are lovely.
Barbara - I’m going to try to follow along with the Gratitude List this month. Like others have mentioned I need to get back to my journal.
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Rodger - almost daily I love that he still makes me laugh.
2: Something about the current season you’re grateful for: Family time, if we’re talking about the Christmas season. Spring will come again, if we are talking about Winter.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I am grateful that my back and hips are healing and I’m finding I am able to do more again.
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? My husband. We have done a lot of work over the last 5 years to make me feel this way again. It was a long 12 years before that that I’m not sure how we got through.
5 What is a book that changed your life? The Gratitude Diaries. It helped me change my mindset. I need to read it again.
Machka - I clean before Christmas decorations too.
Allie - I hope you feel better soon. Is there not anything you can do about Alfie’s barking, it seems he gets to rule your remote.
Are you not invited to Tracy and Kyle’s for Christmas dinner?
Barbie - there are so many choices in Christmas lights and decorations. I enjoy putting them up because it’s not something I had a yard to do them in previously.
Annie - Rodger and I were talking about Columbia House a couple of weeks ago.
My grandmother did the Double Day Book Club. She would sign up shortly before my birthday to get me books. Between Christmas and Rodger’s birthday she had fulfilled her obligation and would cancel the subscription. The next year she would do it again. She did that for about 5 years. She would read every book she gave us and we would never know they had been opened.
Rita - that’s a pretty tree
Rebecca - thanks for sharing the tree on ship.
Rori - what a blessing this job has been for you.
Out of curiosity to see the price difference in different countries I searched the Roomba here in Canada. The I3 is on sale at Canadian Tire for 449.00 and 699 for the self emptying. I miss living closer to the boarder.
Kim - I you lived closer you and Levi would be more than welcome. I have a friend that is in your situation and I have told her she is coming this year. I am also making her a stocking and filling it.
Vicki - busy time of year . I so enjoy it though.
Rebecca - I was having a conversation with my Son in Law these evening about things we’ve done to or with microwaves. He mentioned he melted his Mom’s Tupperware. I told him I did the same making peanut brittle. I should make some again.
I have been reading an making notes all weekend and hadn’t got all the way through to catch up until tonight.
The craft sale wasn’t as much as I was expecting it to be and I was a bit disappointed. However, I made my table money back and made a little extra so I am grateful.
I have all of my NB stockings finished and will be sending them off tomorrow. I took nicer pictures of them. Harley is my brother. The scene on his reminds me of him. Mom and Dad are Rodger’s parents. His Mom always had an overflowing toy box for the kids and his Dad always thought it wasn’t Christmas unless you couldn’t get near the tree. Rodger and I watch It’s a Wonderful Life every Christmas Eve as it was what his family did when he was growing up.
Olivia is my “niece” she loves Christmas Vacation and watches it every year with her Dad. Her scene is looking into their living room bay window. I hope they all appreciate how much thought and love went into these.

Just got home from the weekend with mom's
Well, the appointment at the plastic surgeon didn't go as simply as I was expecting.
I will be having the surgery to have the spot and border around it removed which I knew about. A week later, I will be going back in for skin graft/reconstructive surgery. After that, I will not be able to drive for two weeks, have to sleep in the recliner or propped up 30 degree angle(will be hard because I am a side sleeper usually). No bending or lifting for two weeks. No zumba for at least a month.
I wasn't expecting to need the second surgery because they had said they caught it early. The way he was explaining the areas that they will graft from was scary. Still processing all of it.
My doctor is going to Wales the 17th so most likely will have the two surgeries after the first of the year.
Got quite a bit of candy made at mom's but not as much as I had hoped. Mom was busy running around with errands so no help at all.
Still dealing with the pain in my chest from the pulled muscle from my fall two weeks ago so sleeping on her couch the last three nights didn't help that.
Got to the school today to pick up my daycare girl and text her mom to let her know about the upcoming surgeries and she said, oh, I forgot to tell you, she didn't go to school today because she has pinkeye- so, I drove back home after sitting there half an hour(go early for parking-usually I go walk but not today)
Zumba tonight- will take it easy but will be nice to get out for something fun. Want to enjoy it while I can
Now to catch up on the 8+ pages I am behind.
Debbie

Sorry to hear about the extent of your surgery.
Mine (in a week) will be similar except my Dr is going with a Bilobed flap at the same time as the removal. She says that often gives a better result because the skin used for the skin graft is pretty much the same colour as the rest of the nose whereas getting skin from elsewhere (butt, hip) may mean that the skin is different and a different colour.
I will also be doing the sleeping with my head up thing. I'll be getting a chunk out of my right hip too so I won't want to lie on that side for a while.
Get a couple different neck pillows. They help. I've got 4 in preparation for this! I had 3 from my deviated septum surgery but bought 1 more. They have different pressure points.
I won't be able to wear glasses or drive or watch TV or exercise for up to 3 weeks. No digging in my garden or cycling over Christmas! No bending forward. No lifting. No picking up our little Rhody.
But I can read and colour because I can do those things without my glasses.
And I have a lot of soups on hand because eating hurt with the biopsy!

Debbie and Machka I’m sorry that you both are going through this. I hope that all goes smoothly with the surgery and recovery. If it’s okay I will be praying for you.

Back from symphony. Sat too close to the percussion section, thank goodness for earplugs in purse. Amazed at how such a sparsely populated region can field an orchestra of 40+ talented musicians. Enjoyable evening.
Welcome @200Karen Karen in Oregon! Lots of Oregonians (past and present) here.
Michele, didn’t realize Silver Sneakers was part of Medicare Advantage. I’m with you, prefer traditional Medicare part B.
@Roseabc123 Rosemarie good to see you post again, sorry to hear you had computer problems.
Rebecca that’s quite a cocktail! Glad we don’t have a microwave, that peanut brittle recipe looks WAY too easy.
Machka can you get to IRobot’s .AU and bypass the middlemen?
https://www.irobot.com/en_AU/roomba-j7-robot-vacuum/J715020.html
Allie did the Roomba ask you for your wifi password? the pic of your grands.
Kim we’re part way from you to Flea. You and Levi are welcome to come and take pot luck with us, spend the night on the couch or in the van. Joe and I eat different things at different times so I may not even make a meal, but there’s always stuff to eat…
Vick sorry your DDIL and DGD tested positive. Hope no complications and quick complete recovery.
Debbie ((hugs)) Hate that you have to wait more than a month for this surgery. ((hugs))
Lanette thanks for the Wal~Mart tip. Freddie’s does the same and its saved me hours of wandering/searching.
Lisa had I been your friend, I’d have PM’d you the typos, then when you corrected them would have given it the five stars your writing deserves. But that’s 72 year old me. There was a time when I would have given typos a one star review. Glad I’ve mellowed.
Michele, an electric drum set? Oh you are a NAUGHTY Grandma!
Tracey those stockings are beautiful. You are a thoughtful artist.

Holiday season is often hard for me, and while I thought I had this one figured out it turns out that my plans were dashed yesterday, and while there are 20 days to figure out new plans, at this point I’ll be home with Levi. In my day dreams I would have had a big family with lots of folks around; too bad it is just a day dream. To any of you hosting holiday meals if it is in your heart and budget consider inviting folks to join you, even the most connected person may not have a place to be. And it is so much easier to accept an invitation than to ask to be invited.

Sorry your plans fell through. Is one of your local churches doing anything?
I'll be having a very quiet Christmas too.

Tracey, those stockings are truly amazing! I hope that the recipients realize how much love and work went into them also!
Annie, if stockings cause you so much angst, why bother with them? Hubby and I have ours hung up (I hung them up!), but nothing will go in them. Well, maybe some lottery tickets to scratch, but that's about it.
Hubby and I don't even bother exchanging gifts, we just go out and buy what we want/need throughout the year. It does make life simpler! lol A few times when we have been talking about getting a bigger ticket item (tv, new bed) we've said "it will be our Christmas present this year". It works for us. This year, our son had a suggestion for them (chair pads for their "new to them" wooden chairs) which made me happy, but I also bought them a set of sheets that they know nothing about! One of our neighbours is selling them as a fundraiser for her kids speed skating club. The price was right and the sample that I got to feel was lovely! They will be surprised and it's something that they will enjoy.
That's it for me, it's getting late again and I need some sleep!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Machka--Beautiful pictures of where you are able to walk. The water is so blue.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE
The colour depends on the sky. Right now the sun is going down and there are clouds around so it's kind of a pinky grey.
I like that about our bay ... it changes.
It's an ocean bay near the mouth of a large river.
This was in October:SophieRosieMom wrote: »I'm trying to remember - didn't we have a discussion several years ago about going to a restaurant as a single person - not necessarily on Christmas or a holiday. And someone mentioned that restaurants often place "singles" together at a table for conversation? I just checked - looks like Applebees might be open on Christmas, at least around here. I think if I didn't have an invite and really wanted to have a nice meal, I'd look into this.
You never know who you might meet. I'd probably ask to be seated at a table with a gentleman without prison tats, lol, and start up a conversation about cleaning gutters, pruning, etc.

I would not like that! If I go to a restaurant by myself, it's because I want to be by myself.

I've never been a perfectionist ... and I've always liked to learn and try new things.
As for being miserable, I was increasingly unhappy with my ex but once we separated, the "miserable" went away. That was in my early 30s.

Tracey: 🥰 the stockings. You’re so talented and thoughtful.
Awake and refreshed. Ready to work on finishing my cards today. Most will be hand delivered, so no stamps required 😝 but I have a few that need to be posted off pronto.
DH is going to badminton, and then to their Christmas lunch, so I will be able to focus on the cards. He has an MRI scan scheduled at 7 pm.
Tomorrow we will do our shopping early. We are going to the Royal Yacht Club with our gardening buddies for Christmas lunch. The dining room has wonderful views over Bangor Bay.
We discussed Christmas with DED on Sunday when we visited her. She is doing Christmas Day dinner this year. We will provide the turkey. Next year DYD will be hosting.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them. Take care of yourselves.

If you were in Canada, you'd start with a mandarin orange in the toe of the stocking. There might be some other candied fruit or something and a piece of fruitcake.
My husband and I don't fill stockings although we have 3 Christmas stocking as decorations.
But if I were filling one with things I bought for myself (???), I'd put the alcohol pens I like colouring with in there plus maybe some sketching pencils.
Regarding other aspects of Christmas ...
I stopped doing cards years ago, except for my parents, my sister-in-law, and my husband. Which reminds me, I should get cards for them or see if I have cards already. I still had a few cards left when I stopped sending them.
I think I'm finished gift shopping. Oh wait, no. I have 1 left - my secret santa person, and I think I just have to go get it. I got a gift for my husband and me since we're not going anywhere at Christmas this year + 3 other gifts. Nothing major.
Decorations are almost up. Meetings in the evenings are kinda getting in the way. But I also put up a couple things at work too.
We'll see about attending a service. Many are after my surgery, unfortunately, but there is one this week in the evening we might attend.
And that's about it. Christmas Dinner may be chicken soup.

I have electric heat and in Connecticut they will be doubling the rate come January 1st.so I keep the heat off in my bedroom and keep it on 62 in the living room and a sweater on Alfie
And my electric was still 130.00 this past month.. sheesh.
Well im up and off to the shower..1 -
Just wanted to jump in and add my appreciation of Tracey 's wonderful Christmas stockings. So glad you've got good photos to keep.
DH and I are just doing our small Santa's presents this year, that we open in bed. I've got two, need a few more. I might jump on a bus and pop down to M&S in town. Their cherry dark chocolate liqueurs are much cheaper in the shop than on Amazon. Then I might buy something from the art shop around the corner. They are expensive though. I've already got him A4 watercolour paper. Other than that, I'm done. Cards will be posted today. DH will do the 3 neighbours.
Now to write!

Here with Miles and he is snoozing on his first nap.. bought him 3 books.. and read those to him before he fell asleep..
I know the kind of books he likes and would rather spend the money on books for him than on other things..
I adore when he is snuggling in my arms about to go to sleep and just looking at me.hopefully he is loving on grandma and somewhere in his subconscious he will remember that.6
