Good morning ladies!
Tracey those stockings are gorgeous!
Debbie and Machka, hope the nose surgeries go well. Too bad you have to wait. And the restrictions sound dreadful, but it will only be for a short time. You might sleep through most of it. I barely remember my nasal surgery to realign my broken nose.
I would quit the stockings if I had a choice. But it makes my parents happy so that makes it worthwhile. Thanks for the suggestions! My main hobby is reading, and I'm switching to e-books. And I ride horseback. And I do dumbbells and a walking video and yoga. I cook simple dishes. And there's Teddy. And the car. But I have pretty much everything I want, except for that audible subscription that I'm debating. I will keep considering.
Hope all your Christmas preparation is going well. Have a great day,

Tracey, I missed the stockings the first time around because they were in a spoiler, but after everyone raved about them, I went back and found them. They are beautiful and look like a ton of work. I sewed on a few sequins once and remember how tricky they were. Do you do new stockings every year? or this this a once in a lifetime project.?
Barbie1 -
Tracey and Carla ~ You are two very, very talented women. Your crafts show love and time well spent. Tracey, are all those little beads on the stockings hand sewn? I would never ever have the patience to do that. And, the designs are fantastic and show so much thought. Carla, your Christmas village also shows so much love! Enjoy!

Carol - I agree - Tracey and Carla - amazing!! Thank you for sharing those pix and letting us enjoy them. I know how much work goes into making those stockings and setting up that wonderful village.
Ran across this -
Allie - did your electric company say why rates will double? I've discovered a person can get accustomed to cooler temps in the house. At night, thermostat is set on 59 or 60. When I get up (real early) I turn on a small space heater next to my chair and at around 3:30 I build a fire in the woodstove which heats the front of the house to 67 or 68 within an hour. Then I up the main thermostat which basically pulls the warm air throughout the house.
Our electric rates may rise a little - the local power company commissioners put out a statement that rates aren't projected to rise for the next couple years, or if they do it will be minimal. Same with water company. Rising costs of replacement parts for all of the mechanical parts to keep these systems running seem to be the drivers.
Gratitude- This tops my gratitude list every day.Grateful that Charlie brought me that load of firewood even when I said I wouldn't need any this year and was going to use the electric instead. Grateful that my legs and back were strong enough to get the wood into the woodshed and/or stacked within a couple days. Grateful the old greenhouse has strong shelves and clear floor where I was able to stack about 1/4 of a cord which dried out in a heated environment. Grateful the office part of the shop, which has a small heater set on low (60f) to keep the kitty warm, is a great interim spot to further the dry the wood before it comes into the house.
Heather - good topic re: perfectionism. I agree, I'm satisfied with 80% to 90% these days. Life is much calmer.
Annie - I think it was you who was eating mangoes? I bought one last week and figure I'll dice it up and start adding it to my breakfast yogurt along with some chopped walnuts. Sounds like you are making great headway with your Christmas shopping. Neat story about how you now staying with your folks is working out well. It sure helps when they tell you how much they appreciate you caring for them - even tho it's hard sometimes. My DH thanked me several times during his final months and that's what I remember the most about him as his health was failing.
Cleaner coming today, I'm getting things straightened up. Mainly picking up all of the dog toys, dog beds, you name it.
Make it a wonderful day, ladies!

Sorry to hear about the extent of your surgery.
Mine (in a week) will be similar except my Dr is going with a Bilobed flap at the same time as the removal. She says that often gives a better result because the skin used for the skin graft is pretty much the same colour as the rest of the nose whereas getting skin from elsewhere (butt, hip) may mean that the skin is different and a different colour.
I will also be doing the sleeping with my head up thing. I'll be getting a chunk out of my right hip too so I won't want to lie on that side for a while.
Get a couple different neck pillows. They help. I've got 4 in preparation for this! I had 3 from my deviated septum surgery but bought 1 more. They have different pressure points.
I won't be able to wear glasses or drive or watch TV or exercise for up to 3 weeks. No digging in my garden or cycling over Christmas! No bending forward. No lifting. No picking up our little Rhody.
But I can read and colour because I can do those things without my glasses.
And I have a lot of soups on hand because eating hurt with the biopsy!
M in Oz [/quote]
he is doing two surgeries so they can send the full thing they take off to pathalogy to make sure they got it all then go back and do the reconstruction.
he mentioned the flap that he might do that.
I was trying to listen and understand all of it but was very overwhelmed
he didn't mention not wearing my glasses- will have to wait and see on that. I can see decent without them but not great
2 -
I finally thought of something for my stocking- nice bath soap. Something with lavender. Yay!
Yes I am eating mango smoothies with frozen mango. I thought about a mango for my stocking but I don't understand their ripeness timing. That could be a big mistake if it goes bad! I'm really kinda limited in the kitchen, although I have learned how to pan fry a tilapia filet.
I need to dye my hair today but I am procrastinating.

Ladies – thanks for the Oregon invites, but Levi and I will not be wandering that far.
I did offer Christmas Eve dinner to my only single friend, and she is waiting on some communication with her brother to see if she is available, so I told her to bring him with her…. They are working that out, so I may have plans for Christmas Eve.
I can still go to my girl friends Christmas dinner if I want but can not bring Levi. The rescinding the invitation of Levi is what threw everything into a tail spin. So it is 4 hours of driving (2 up 2 back) for dinner and a gift exchange. I would be driving home in the dark and the first hour of it on 2 lane country roads, they did offer to move dinner from 8pm to 6pm, but that still has me not getting home until after 10 pm… I am thinking about it, a lot of late driving, and who knows what the weather will be like.
Tracey the stockings are amazing!!!
Annie – we do stockings here too, and they were a challenge until we started adding things like favorite shampoo, toothpaste, lip gloss, hand cream… so things we would buy any way but getting them in the stocking instead of the grocery bag. I also add a pair of fun socks to the stockings… my goal is most of the items need to be under $5 and take up a good amount of space, and 1 or 2 items can be more of a splurge, This year my mom had cataract surgery so no longer needs prescription sun glasses, she bought a pair of ugly ones at the dollar store, and is so frugal she will not get another pair until these break. So every one including Santa is going to buy her a pair at the dollar store, so I think she should end up with 7 pair…. I think she will think it is funny.
Machka and Debbie – take care with your surgeries – sending good thoughts to doctors for great skill, and focus.
Our electric, water and gas rates are all going up on Jan 1…. I already keep the house on the cold side (63 during the day max, and off at night) It is warmer when I have a fire in the fireplace insert. I added to the ceiling insulation, would love to do the floors and walls, but the price is too much right now.. still need to finish paying for the plumbing of last month. Oh well – I should get to work!

up early to trap two of the cats to get them fixed. First one put up a fight- got a few scratches and popped my knuckle in my pinky finger- typing without using it is hard-(use the A key so much). Put Voltarin cream on it but still really hurts. Second one was simple but he got out so had to do it a second time- zip tied the cage after that. Son and his girlfriend are taking them up. One is her cat the other is my kitten. I paid for it- went through the feral cat group- $25 each instead of the $165 and $85(females are more expensive) at the so called low cost clinic. Vets around here are now charging up to 400 for fixing a female.
One more stress of my list. The female got outside once over night and we were worried she had gotten pregnant- luckily she didn't. Now no more worries. And, if she doesn't stop peeing on my side of the bed(I keep a pad here because of her), in the spring I will kick her outside like I did her brother, for the same reason.
Waiting to hear if I have my daycare girl today- got to the school yesterday, sitting waiting when the mom text me to say , oh sorry, forgot to tell you she didn't go to school.
Need to start on decorations-maybe that will help get me in the holiday mood. So far, not feeling it.

Didn’t sleep well last night. Went to therapy yesterday and touched on some tough stuff.
I am reading “French Women Don’t Get Fat” that someone on here mentioned. I like it mostly because I’ve got French roots but the advice is really the same as every good healthy eating book out there. Nothing really new, just with a French twist to the recipes!

Heather--I am working on the not trying to stress myself out about everything being perfect. I am getting better, but it is a work in progress for sure. Working on just relaxing and being in the moment and enjoying it.
Deb--Prayers that all goes well with the sugery. I agree you need get things lined up a head of time so that you can relax and heal when the time comes. But will say I would not be happy about having to wait until after the first of the new year.
MIchele--The Cookie Walk is something they have had for years. Before Covid they would lay the cookies out on tables and you got a box and gloves at the door and picked your own out. They sell by the pound. Since Covid they have them already boxed and you just pick out what you want. The cookies are made by voluteers at the church and Habit for Humity. They usually have several thousands. It is a big fund raiser.
Tracey--Those are beautiful stocking and so personal. I hope they enjoy them.
minicooper--WOW!! Beautiful Christmas village.
We are on budget for our lights and gas. Our light, water and sewer went from $121 a month to $135 this month. Still not bad in the long run. We pay $112 a month for gas.
Church Women's Christmas party last evening was fun. My oldest DGD went with me. We had 5 women at our table and they had a guess speaker that was very funny. Lots of good food, which I did pretty good with. But weight was up this morning so have to get a better handle on it.

Nyquil is great for most people but I (and my mom) are NOT most people. We have the opposite reaction- it is like have 6 cups of coffee and trying to sleep.
Found out that Benadryl does the same thing to me. Found out the hard way that the "pm" in TylanolPM is Benadryl- was up for hours after taking that.
Oh no! The sleepy qualities of Nyquil is the best thing going for it. Plus the taste is like old spinster sherry.😜😁

We had such a good time today. Picking up Bea was a hoot. I found out from my son that they are going to send her to theatre school once a week! She can imitate anything and remember every song and dance. She decided today that she was going to be a spy.
We stayed until 6, watching some Japanese cartoon on the TV. The two girls were curled up on DH. Edie said, 'No offense to you, but if you hadn't split up with Grandpa Roger, we wouldn't ever have met Johnny. ' Bea said 'Johnny is a great fun guy.' Warms the heart.
Then we set off for the microbrewery and had a lovely half pint. Warm and toasty in there after their chilly house. Then the Persian. Wonderful, and packed out on a Tuesday night! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, which I paid for with the last of the credit card deposit I got back from Saga. So, free.
Had a nice chat with a guy at the next table about hats.
Here I am, just about to leave.
A good evening.

Barbie: Pretty blanket. I like the color!
Machka and Debbie: I hope the procedures go well. It is a pain having to reduce your activities and change where you sleep. Hopefully the time will pass quickly!
Annie: What about pens! One can always use pens! A new pedometer might be nice for a more expensive gift to yourself!
Lisa: I read in a writing group this summer. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't that bad either.
Heather: I have decided I am a professional dabbler and will never have expertise in anything. Next summer I want
to weave. The Georgia summer's are hot and can be depressing so it is good to have a theme each summer.
Terri: I ordered my cards and hope to have them out this week.
Carla: WOW! I love the village! What a great project!
Grandmallie: I am going to mention you keep the heat at 62 in CT and watch his reaction. True he is a quad now and heat control is not easy for him, but still he keeps the heat up...and we are in GA!
When I was younger, I liked books by Rosamunde Pilcher and would like to re-visit these now that I am older. She helped me settle into home life and nesting. I remember tiring of the idea of traveling and wanting to put resources into my own home instead of looking at other places and the homes of others.
An unexpected turn for this Christmas season. My son...who got married in May at his wife's family home....his family wants to visit us on the 24th. I believe they want to visit my husband and know he really doesn't leave the house. They offered to do the cooking, but I think I will make lasagna and a salad and brownies and maybe one other side dish. Does anyone have a good lasagna recipe? I have never made my own sauce. Does anyone have a recipe for a meat sauce for the lasagna? This will be for 8 to 12 people I believe. I was thinking 3 lasagnas. We usually don't entertain this many people. And on the 25TH....I believe my son will go to his new in-laws. So we will be alone on Christmas day which will be fine with me!3 -

Went to the gym and did a body pump DVD. Then went to Dollar General but, I swear, that store had practically nothing. Then went to Kohl’s because Vince got $45 in Kohl’s cash and it expired tomorrow. Got Lynette a sweater, Colby this hot sauce thing of different sauces, Denise’s dog a chew toy, either Jess or Denise’s cat a cat toy. All for $5. Then the other Dollar General by me and found two towels for 70% off, then to the Dollar Tree to get Christmas cards for Denise and Pete, Jess, and PJ.
Ceramics tonight. Work tomorrow and after I take Jerry home (assuming that I do) I’ll probably go to Sam’s since I have a Newcomer luncheon to go to Thurs when I was planning to go but now I’m not sure I’ll have time.
I wanted some of the silicon mats to use at the condo. Now, to get them to fit the cookie trays I have down there I would have to cut them. Vince said that he read that you should never cut them, there is something inside them that the border protects and if you cut them, this can get in your food. I’ve never heard of this. Has anyone else?
Tracey - What beautiful stockings! Wish I had a flair for doing something that beautiful. I remember one time many years ago I made these sequin pictures on shirts. You had to glue each and every sequin on in place. I enjoyed it, but it also was work.
Barbara – my first inclination was to get him a full drum set. No headphones, you know, the kind with the bass drum, cymbals, all that stuff. But Vince talked me into the electric drums with the headphones and rechargeable battery.
Right now I have a pineapple angel food cake in the oven for when Steve gets here. I’ll just put it in the freezer. Update: the first one fell, not sure why. So I made another one and it cooled while we were at ceramics. Just put it in the freezer now.
Stockings: every year in their stockings everyone (well, it’s just been Jess, Colby, Vince and me lately) gets an orange (for a good girl/boy) and some coal. It’s real coal, but I wrapped it in saran wrap so that it doesn’t get everything dirty. My stocking is small, enough for a book calendar or a bag of Dove chocolates. I really don’t need anything more. Now Vince has this real big one so he gets a bag of coal….lol
M – “indoor plumbing”….ROTF
Allie – I’m sure Myles will remember the warm feeling his grandma gave him. How I wish I could see PJ more, or even talk to him! In a sense, I can’t wait until he gets his own phone. Then at least I can talk to him and text him pictures of our home/pool/etc.
Carla – lovely village. I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into it
Karen – what kind of fundraiser was it?
Kim – ooooohhhh I like your idea of personal care items for the stockings. I’m always stuck for what to put in it, that’s a great suggestion. I think I’ll use it this year
Debbie – I can’t help thinking of Bonnie when you mentioned about getting the cats fixed. We got her from the Humane Society and she was fixed. After we’d had her for a few months, she started making this horrible crying sound. And wherever she was laying down, when she got up Clyde and Loki would sniff that area like crazy. At one point Clyde was humping her. But she was fixed (and so was Clyde!). We called the vet and he said “it doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. Bring her in when this all is at its worst”. Well, it seems that when the Humane Society fixed her, they didn’t get all of the ovaries out, a tiny bit...no larger than the head of an eraser….was left. But enough to produce the estrogen. So we had to take her to the vet to get her re-fixed (funsville!)
Barbie – beautiful blanket! Yea for Jake
Heather – what a lovely thing for Bea to say about Johnny. Bet it just warmed his heart and yours, too
As promised, here is the shark. Monday my manatee should be ready to come home. Looks like I have to get the goldfish off my phone which is in the trunk of my car right now. I'll have it tomorrow

Hello ladies!
Yes I should get some pens - great idea!
I did my dumbbells today- Yay! First time since I hurt my shoulder. I did twenty reps, and I could feel it a little when I picked up my "heavy" weights at eight pounds. The row, the shrug, and the tricep kickback were all a little weak. But not too bad. And the planks were fine. Yay!
And I got my hair dyed today to be ready for my date Monday. Yay!
Tomorrow I have to go to the bank and the library. I will do yoga if my shoulder feels good.
