Hey all! Thanks for the welcome backs.
@polskagirl01 covid sux so much. Ironically I think my "cure" was getting the flu. I had Covid in april and it took 2 months before I could really run again. And I so so slowly got a bit better until September, when I got a flu. Ans this flu was a doozy. I was literally in bed for 4 days, could not move at all. Then I got a viral ear infection that turned into labyrinthitis - it affected my balance etc. Which means I got bad vertigo and nausea. It was an awful 2 weeks. But it seemed to have reset my body so to speak and since the middle of October I've been getting way better. I would not recommend it as a course of treatment though lol.
It's the 2nd Jan here - so far 2023 has not imploded haha. Am about to go out for a slow base run. Be about 4k.8 -
BOOM. No worries about joining run the year. I like it because it challenges me and except for a spreadsheet I don't have a great way to keep mileage since I am not on Strava. I actually thought so were already members which is the only reason I suggested it.
Starting out the New Year well with a 10 mile run. It was going to be a 4 miler and then a 10K and then well it just got away from me. Weather was OK but I kept getting Air quality alerts and it had that FOGGY feel to it.
So 10 out of 120 goal for Jan.
My brother and his wife are both covid positive right now altho he was the only one who was sick with fever and she was non symptomatic except what seemed like allergies I guess. Glad I skipped their Xmas parties this year as I am sure that is where they picked it up.
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one left in the world who has not had Covid or the Flu or something. I am pretty careful with masking etc but I know that work is a cesspool of germs also so surprised I have avoided it. My biggest outing was a family thanksgiving celebration tis year.
Fingers crossed I manage to avoid it still because none of it sounds like fun at all. 😞😞😔
I am really enjoying reading everyone's goals for the year (small or large!) and Jan 1 is such a bright new shiny day. Let's keep that going.7 -
@SummerSkier glad you dodged the Vid and well done on the 10Miler 🙌1
-
1/1 15.5 miles, 1707 days on the run, 889 days HM+ Streak
Dense fog this morning, did not get any sun until I was almost back home
*!* HAPPY NEW YEAR *!*9 -
Happy New Year All, Count me in!
Recovering from Covid at the moment and should be up and about in the next day or so hopefully.
Going to keep it simple for January;
1. Get out and do a run. I’ve not run since lockdown. Making the first run happen seems to be my hurdle.
2. I need to get my weight back into the healthy range. Goal is to find out exactly what I now weigh. I assume I’ve got about 3 stone to shift, whatever my excess I will lose 2/3rds of it this year. Focus for January is simply to think about the food choices I am making and to reduce general refined processed sugar intake.
3. Get more sleep and stop using nighttime to create more hours in my day.

@emptydog Nice cold run. I suspect there weren't many people today due to too much late night shenanigan's and it being pretty chilly.
Welcome @spl8 !
@Oberon21 I think the fact that you have run those distances before and know how you felt then will help to motivate you to get back there again. One day at a time. One step at a time. You can do this! I think 2023 is the year! I'm sure you know this, but be careful not to go out to strong in the beginning. Slow and steady will get you back there.
Great goals @Fit2btied2016 . If you really want to do a Polar Bear swim, I'm sure there is a cold body of water somewhere to jump in.
@Avidkeo Interesting that being so sick made you feel better. Humm. But, I'm glad it did.
@SummerSkier Great 10 mile run today. Love that you just kept going and it turned into that. I didn't check. Were you able to add me to your team on RTY? I'm not on any other thing, like Strava either. Sorry that your brother and wife have CoVID. Glad you have been able to avoid it so far. You just might be one of the few who hasn't had it at least once.
We had our neighborhood lunch today. It was good, and of course I ate way to much food. It was 61F (16C) when I got home. I couldn't NOT take advantage of such a nice day, so went out for a 2.3 mile walk on the driveway (for 2023). Too full to run, but the walk was nice.

Great job getting something in today to start the new year off on the right foot @Fit2btied2016 !3

Super excited to see this challenge. I'm just getting back into running and finished week 1 of a 12 week 5k training.
My 2023 goal is 1000 km, so about 83 km/month6 -
Hi I’m new to the group - thank you for allowing me to join!
Signed up for the Shape 1/2 Marathon in NYC in April 2022. I need to exercise to manage my anxiety/stress. Love any and all advice and accountability. Use my treadmill and peloton runs right now but lack consistency. Have a very early job so I want to wake up early (any really early birds on here 430?) Thank you for any help! I’m here to be accountable for anyone who needs it.7 -

Welcome!
Exercise is a very big help for my mental health so I definitely get that! I get cranky if I have to skip.
4:30 is very early but I do best when I get it done first thing too. I can ride that accomplishment all day. My preference is to get up at the same time whether or not I plan to work out, so it (eventually) feels natural to just get up and go at that time. It's also easier to get up if you get enough sleep anyway, so check that too if you find it hard to get up!
I got 1.6 miles (walking) in unexpectedly today! I didn't think we'd have time for it with church and family visiting, but somehow I wasn't spending every spare minute asking kids to find their shoes. 50F and cloudy, very little wind. After last week's below zero with windchill it felt almost like summer!
I do have an indoor bike I will be using some until the weather is more reliably warm in the spring, but at least this month I won't be counting those miles!
Distance Log:
1.6 miles
Goal: 20 miles8 -
January Goal: 100 Miles
1/1: 10.50 miles
10.5/100 miles completed for January
Welcome to all the newcomers and welcome back to those returning. I need to think about my goals for 2023, but I will set a goal of 100 miles for January.
I started out the year with a lovely 10.5 mile run. The weather was really nice at 55°F. I didn't see as many loose dogs as I expected on New Year's day. I did stop by to see Lilly/Sunny the Donkey. My son and his girlfriend came to pick up their dog. When they got here the four of us took the three dogs for a walk. We ended up with .89 miles. I would have gone a little more to get an even mile, but everyone else was good so we stopped.
@summerskier I have already signed up for RTY. I have been counting running, walking and steps. I am open to being on a team.
@Martindale I am getting so excited for Dopey.

Good morning everyone!
Happy New Year!
Wow - so many newbies! And to think not long ago I was the 'new guy'.
WELCOME 🤗
got a gentle 9K in!
For January - gone Teetotal 'Dry January' and near-Vegan (will still eat egg, and the odd *SMALL* serving of chocolate [sooo much leftover from Christmas!] ). Declining all social invites and zero restaurant trips for next 5 weeks!6 -
Welcome to the new faces! I recognize a couple of your names from years past. Glad to see you back!SummerSkier wrote: »Sometimes I feel like I am the only one left in the world who has not had Covid or the Flu or something.

You and me both. So far my little family of 3 and my in-laws have dodged it all. Honestly, I am shocked my kid didn’t catch one or both at school at some point over the last year. The flu was terrible there right before the break. I may be the only one, but I’ll be wearing a mask on the plane on the way to FL because the last thing I want is to catch some random bug right before this race.
@tarun_yadavA Going for the hard reset, I see.7 -
January total: 9.2/80 miles run
1/1: 5 miles
1/2: 4.2 miles
Rainy run this morning! Love those. It has been really warm here the last couple of days so a little sprinkle was welcome.
Just about done packing. I am usually such a light packer, but this trip requires so many contingency plans. Not just my daily clothes, but running clothes for 4 days and a few pairs of shoes. Then options for if the weather shifts colder or warmer. Foam roller, throwaway layers, and I’m bringing a little food so I have a breakfast that is predictable and easy to eat in my room at 2:30am along with some snacks and my usual recovery shake stuff for the longer races. So much luggage!9 -

Love the community here. Looking forward to being motivated by everyone's progress.5 -
Yeah @martaindale I can't imagine how much stuff I would have to pack for 4 races, plus all the normal clothes and other things. Hope you can fit everything in (and don't forget anything)!
OK, this must have been divine intervention today. When I started out I thought I would do an easy 10 miles. But around mile 4 I decided to turn left instead of right because it looked like it was about to rain. So ended up with 8.36 miles....at 8:36 pace....and finished at 8:36am!!! 😳
10 -
@martaindale thanks Sarah. Yup, hard reset! Full detox! No beer or wing shall pass these lips in the month of January! Haha.
Anyways. How are you feeling about your races?! Nervous? Excited???
Everything crossed🤞 for you!!3 -
@tarun_yadavA cleverly does not mention mince pies of course.... wait until he gets invited to a night out with the guys....
@Scott6255 your numbers are really FREAKING me out today too So ended up with 8.36 miles....at 8:36 pace....and finished at 8:36am!!! 😳 😱🙃8️⃣.3️⃣6️⃣
@martaindale I am so excited for your races and trip! I feel like I am going to be doing the Dopey also alongside you. So fun packing and of course better to have TOO many options than not enough. You are going to do so well. 👏🎉👏🎉👏
I would be PROUD to have you join my RTY team @kgirlhart !! The more the merrier it seems this year which is fine by me. I enjoy the camaraderie of it esp since I am no longer stressing about trying to run the whole way anymore. Sometimes you just have to let things go. Team name is bONs2023RTY if you search.... all other already doing RTY are welcome as well.
@quilteryoyo I love your goals for the year and am excited again to watch you train for your Dec 10 miler! You are definitely on the team too.
Welcome to all the new members and may the gods be ever with you as we venture into 2023 (can you tell I have been rewatching the hunger game series?)
I completed my 10 sandwich today (10km/10m/10km) this morning. Totally unplanned of course like everything about my running . 😁😁😁🤣 16 out of 120 goal. It was humid and almost 70 this morning but luckily a nice southern breeze. The weatherman had predicted a very rainy day but when I walked out to check I could see blue sky so I decided to run before it changed its mind. Of course I figured it would start to pour on me when I hit the furthest point but surprisingly altho it was a sweaty clammy type run no rain. I also was surprised yesterday that the trash was not too bad and no loose dogs. I did step on a cap in the street I think which made me jump but other than that both runs were surprisingly uneventful.
MILE month ytdate
1-Jan-23 10.06 10.06 10.06
2-Jan-23 6.25 16.31 16.31

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry I keep going MIA. Ever since my marathon went poorly, I have been in such a running funk. I feel so much better (health-wise and mental health-wise) when I am running though, so I started following a 10K plan last week that has me running 3-4 times per week. I do have a goal of walking at least a mile on any non-running day to keep me moving. I really hope I will keep it up. I'm also trying to do Les Mills BodyCombat 3 times per week for at least 30 minutes.
I'm not going to set a mileage goal this month - I would rather just focus on doing my minimum mile of some sort each day and work my way back into it. I will say I was pretty happy (but very surprised due to my lack of running lately) that I met my goal of 750 miles for 2022!
I read everyone's posts so far and am glad to see all of you. For those of you who have been sick, I send you positive vibes to get through it. Good luck to all who have upcoming races this year as well! Maybe in a month or two I will be motivated enough to train for something.6 -
@Scott6255 Maybe that’s the universe telling you it’s time to go buy a lottery ticket!tarun_yadavA wrote: »Anyways. How are you feeling about your races?! Nervous? Excited???

I’m really excited and not at all nervous for everything except the marathon. It’s my first marathon so I would be nervous even if it wasn’t the tail end of a 4 day challenge. I really think it’s just normal pre-race nerves and that everything will go fine. The proverbial hay is in the proverbial barn. Now I just have to show up and trust the training.9 -
@SummerSkier - hahaha, no Guys' nights till Feb!
@martaindale - truly amazing. A marathon on day 4. Inspiring 🙌. And then some!1 -
Morning all. Went out and did 31 min base run today. Definitely noticing that it's getting way easier. I try running on HR when not doing pace and when doing base runs I try keeping in the green. Definitely staying green longer on these runs.
I keep checking to see if my VO2 is going up at all, slightly increasing though fairly steady till now. Slow and steady is fine.7 -

Wow, I sneak away for a birthday night away and come home to 3 pages already! Welcome to all the newcomers and welcome back to old faces. @Avidkeo pleased to see you getting going again!
@SummerSkier @martaindale I have also escaped Covid so far, at least as far as I know. No idea how... I'm the only person in our household or my husband's family, my husband and daughter were both with me when they caught it (though they did self-isolate) and my father tested positive while I was visiting him! I did have a cold a month or so ago, but test was negative, so who knows?
@martaindale so excited for your races!
@quilteryoyo in response to your comment on the December thread... I still remember when 13km would have been far from 'only', especially over a mountain! Remembering that helps when I get frustrated at not being superwoman.
I haven't thought about a goal for the year yet apart from finishing my marathon in April (gulp). There are so many crazy things I want to do that I have to force myself to focus on tackling one at a time.
As for January, the goal is (yet again) to do the damn strength training (I only skipped one functional and two core last month and that was because of working over xmas) and to enjoy the race and not break anything.

I didn't run today. I thought about it since I had the day off. But I usually take Monday as a rest day so I took the dogs for a walk instead and then did an hour yoga. We had a nice walk and ended up going 1.35 miles which is quite a lot for my 15 year old and almost 13 year old dogs.
@Scott6255 That is really cool about your pace, mileage and time all being the same.
@martaindale Have you posted a link for us to track you yet?
@marisap2010 Congrats on getting your 2022 mileage goal. Hopefully you will get your running mojo back soon.
@SummerSkier I sent a request for your RTY team.
I am supposed to be taking down my Christmas decorations, so I guess I'd better stop procrastinating and get to it. 😁5 -
Welcome @JennieMaeK ! It's a great group. Great job on completing your first week of the training program. Which program are you using?
Welcome @ptabibian ! Is that 500 miles on your ticker your goal for the year? You may already know this, since I don't know how much you are currently running, but don't increase your mileage too fast or you'll risk injury. Are you using a training plan to get ready for your half? Will this be your first? @Alphahowls gets up at 4 am, I think. Me? Nope. I am not a morning person.
@penguinmama87 Great job on getting a walk in on such a busy day.
Nice 10.5 miles yesterday @kgirlhart . Glad there weren't a lot of loose dogs and that you got to see Sunny. Good job on your "rest day" exercises. Hope you managed to get your Christmas decorations down.
@tarun_yadavA Nice run. Good luck with your teetotal and vegan-ish January. It would be really hard for me to give up eggs and cheese.
@martaindale I sure don't blame you for wearing a mask on the plane. I think I would too. You do have to pack a lot, but sounds like you will be ready for all the contingencies. Exciting.
WOW @Scott6255 . Maybe you should play the lottery.
Thanks @SummerSkier ! Great job on your 10 sandwich!
Glad to see you back @marisap2010 ! We can do the mile streak together. I'll be starting year 3 in 10 days. You can do it! Congrats on 750 miles in 2022 too! Amazing!
Nice run @Avidkeo ! Glad it felt easier for you.
@Fit2btied You'll figure it out eventually. How did the new pup do on it's walk? Great job getting in as much running as you can. Also glad that you are feeling so much relief.
I did a treadmill session this afternoon, after taking mom for her eye doctor appointment. I had to cut it a bit short due to an unscheduled visit with my cousin and his wife. They stopped at mom's. She called when I was in the middle of my run. I finished up 2 miles and cut my cool down walk to 0.25 miles so that I could go down to see them. He was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer 2 or 3 years ago. Mom and I had just talked about needing to go see him soon. He is doing great and looks really good.
I have a question about the ticker. I haven't used it in a while until this month. When I used it before, I thought there was a way to save it and just add your miles. I don't see how to do that now and had to totally redo it today from yesterday. Am I missing something?

The run on my plan for today had me doing speed work. Because I have been slack for several months, I did not maintain the desired pace on all of the speed parts, but I did my best and ended up with 4 miles.
January running: 4 miles
Walking and running total: 5.6 miles4
