LESS Alcohol ~ FEBRUARY 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

Hello friends, I am late- but in for February! I haven't thought much about drinking the past week which is unusual and that is my honest excuse why I haven't posted, I really forgot.
I am actually doing really good (I re-started running which helps with my mood and depression and overeating and overdrinking). I am taking no supplements or anything but do crave lemonade).
I am fully convinced how well I succeed in my goals has everything to do with my mood and outlook.
AF is my goal for most of this month, except Superbowl. Not giving up the occasional social drinking just yet.

Hey everyone, I’m Amanda. I live in Michigan and it is freezing and gray here but at least it’s staying light out past 5 pm now. ☀️
I joined this lovely thread in the summer of 2022 and it has made a huge difference in my life! I’ve gone from being 25% AF to 98% AF. My last A day was Christmas Eve and my last A day before that was 10/28/22.
The people here are kind and real and smart and fun! Welcome to all newcomers!
2/1: AF
I can’t even post here what has happened with work, for one it is too long and for another it’s too infuriating. I definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
I downloaded one of the apps @missmay has in her recommendations at the beginning of the month. It’s called “Reframe.” So far it’s telling me about the psychology of alcohol but letting me put in my “why” and AF streak. There is a forum too. I tread lightly there as I have pretty high standards for my LA friends 🙃 I’m using a 7 day free trial now.
39 days AF
2/2: A 2
Ugh. Such bad decisions last night! I had 2 vodka drinks but they were pretty stiff and I feel like total garbage this morning. I am so, so, so disappointed in myself but I also know that this doesn’t mean I will start drinking daily again. This hangover is too atrocious. Yuck. I’m off to hydrate and find something for my rolling stomach.
2/3: AF
Feeling bad I will have to start my AF streak over but I can otherwise look at it as only having 3 A days in a 4 month period, which is pretty amazing if I do say so myself. And oh how I paid for that short lived little buzz yesterday! I got my Covid vaccine and went to the doctor with a very sick stomach and the sweats. No bueno. It was a balmy 9 degrees F here yesterday so errands were fun.
Hopefully a quiet weekend inside with some self care!8 -
Did not end up babysitting and I wish I had. Our daughter rescheduled to tonight. We went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and I could not resist sangria which turned into a pitcher for us. Then of course because once I start I cannot stop, more at home. Cue the heart palpitations at 1 am along with thirst and anxiety. So I had 6 days in a row AF. Instead of calling this day 1 I will just say out of 7 days I was AF for 6. I need to get back on track today or this will go on for weeks. Wish me luck!10

I'm Robyn and live in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I had 18 AF days last month. I post the next morning.

2/3: AF - AF last night. Today is the Polar Plunge at Virginia Beach, with the weather in the low 30s, upper 20s F. This is not for me but it will be fun to watch!

My sister always says if you are 98% alcohol free, then you are doing great!!!
I feel for you because those hangovers are so atrocious- I never want to have one again. That's a great deterrent.5 -
I need to spend the day looking for mocktails.... The AF wine is horrible, in my opinion🙂
@lmlmrn ~ what book do you have?
Saved all my calories for crustless pizza last night, which was good. Wine said, what about me? I was decent (mindful drinking, they say) , only two glasses and I enjoyed them thoroughly. When I finish the 30 day experiment, I think my goal will be 0 Sunday - Thursday and then allow for the weekend but not go overboard. Still trying to figure out what will work for me. Goal - no daily drinking!
@joans1976 ~ thanks for the feedback on the app. I'm giving it 30 days and then going from there.
@SunnyDays930 - Good luck getting back on track. I know the feeling well!
Happy Saturday. Our weather went from -2 yesterday to a balmy 40 degrees expected today! I think I want to get outside a bit!2/1 AF

What is it with February? LOL
went out for lunch yesterday and had 2 beers, yep. then home and took a beer nap....then in the evening was restless and drank 2 shots of vodka. Was awake most of the night with sweats, chills and arthritis pain. Was all that alcohol related? Pretty sure it was
I am going to be feeling this pain all day today I am sure. So reset for me. That's ok I recognize the symptoms. I am trying to find other ways to deal with the stress of caring for my mom, packing the house, painting inside the house (2 rooms). Sorry to whine as opposed to wine.
With all this chatter about the apps I am going to have another look at what is out there. Dry Days worked for a bit for me but right now it is having no impact on my behavior. I need to change things up I think!
Happy Saturday everyone9 -
@ahoy_m8
I admire the way that you stay AF M-Th ... always!
Lol, chipping ice off of pavement relieves all of my stress. Perhaps I have a better specific shovel for just that.
Glad that you got to have a nice massage on a heated table. I have never had a heated table, but it sounds like they all should be.
@RockinRobyn672
Jerk chicken sliders? Yum!!
@joans1976
9 degrees F = -12C. That is colder than here!3 -
I am in.
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 17AF days for January (a long month)
I do this diary style to keep track, and I post the next morning
Wednesday Feb 01 - AF - I felt like having drinks, but then decided that I needed to start the month off right. Having this thread has helped me very much with accountability.
Thursday Feb 02 - AF - Picked up an extra shift yesterday, so really felt like having a couple of drinks after getting home, but I have a busy day on Friday so resisted. I have been "allowing" myself to have treats and drinks on the weekends, that also helps me refrain on other days, I can have those things another day.
Friday Feb 02 - Drinks including 1/2 of a Caesar which I don't normally have in the winter. I may or may not have drinks today (Saturday), I am mindful that February is a short month.
Rolling total: 2AF days out of 3 days.5 -
@dawnbgethealthy - Very good point! "I am mindful that February is a short month." Thanks for the reminder.

I was successfully AF on 2/2. Last night (2/3) I went to the Volksfest and tried the Kolsch from a local brewery which was very good, then 2 IPAs and ate Schweinebraten (braised pork roast) with saukerkraut. Everything was really good but the meat was pretty greasy. Came home and had a couple more beers (why do I do this?) and then had to sample each of the shortbread cookie flavors I bought there, lavender, orange cardamom and vanilla cardamom. I only has a small piece of each and they are now tucked away in a brown paper bag in the freezer! Out of site, out of mind!
I'm meeting my mom, uncle, brother and various other family members at the Volksfest tonight but I am going to eat at home and limit myself to the two beers I already have tokens for. I am going to try the Pilsner and then maybe another Kolsh on IPA.
I am hoping that posting will give me some accountability, saying in advance what my plan is and then try to stick to it.
There are so many posts on here that I can relate to but I am still figuring out how to work this message board so have not been commenting much but I wanted to say that I appreciate everyone sharing their successes and struggles!8 -
February accountability: 2 days AF
Alcohol: 2 days (4 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
2/4 - 2 wine; small glasses DH & I got 6 glasses out of the bottle6 -

It’s amazing to me how long it takes to feel better after drinking when you do it after not doing it for awhile. My weight was up, I felt bloated and just…No. Besides the psychological effects.
It’s a balmy 34 degrees F here today so I think I’ll go jump in the lake…4 -
Good morning all. I absolutely agree with @joans1976 about how long it takes to feel better after drinking when you haven't for a while. I was feeling FANTASTIC, almost drugged, with the wine out of my system. I just have to be patient and know that it will return by tomorrow or the next day. I woke up this morning and did the youtube meditation on sobriety I like. She says something along the lines of "I will make choices today that will make me feel good about myself tomorrow." This resonates with me.
Have a good Sunday, Friends.7 -
AF yesterday and slept very well. Heart rate all night was perfect according to Fitbit. I got a resting score of 22/25 which means quality sleep. When I drink, my heart rate is above normal most of the night and my sleep quality is 15/25. The data is right there for me. This week, plan to be AF and get blood work for upcoming physical.
One more note: I started back on Naltrexone. I was on it a few years ago. It must have worked last night because I didn't crave at all.8 -
Hi everyone, welcome newbies and hello again to oldbies !
Oh, guys, not good. I had two glasses of wine every night since the beginning of the month, which is just too much for me. Weight is creeping up, sleep quality is creeping down. Shocker. So, I am resetting today. I have a dinner out on Tuesday, will most likely have a glass of wine then, but if I can keep it to one on my planned days, and stay AF tonight, Monday and Wednesday, that will be a win for me.
On a good note, I went to my strength/cardio class three times last week. Plus, of course my tennis drill. It helps to be consistent, something I’ve been struggling
with. Today I feel the energy I was lacking yesterday, time to tackle my languishing paperwork and get this joint straightened up. I know Sunday is a day of reat, but boy howdy, did I rest yesterday! I was a complete slug.6 -
I'm Robyn and live in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss. I had 18 AF days last month. I post the next morning.
2/4: Drinks (2) - We had pizza and beer for lunch after watching folks in costumes do the Polar Plunge. Fun day. @joans1976 Ha! Sounds like you contemplated doing the "plunge" yesterday too! I also had to have a beer nap (@lmlmrn) and felt sluggish the rest of the day. For dinner, I poured a Key Lime La Croix into a Weizenbier glass, which was fun.
The plan now is AF until Thursday.

Hello and happy Sunday to everyone
Weight ballooned up this morning for no reason I can identify LOL but I know me I go up and down on a daily basis regardless of AF or A the day before.
AF last night, made several mocktails, pom juice with a splash of lemon and tonic water. Three of them in a long stemmed glass.
We are contemplating lunch out today, if we do most likely I would have 2 beers. But if we don't I have meals planned so not to be tempted at the house. We will see how the day pans out.
@itladyee I purchased Zero Proof Drinks & More. It has some wonderful recipes including how to make the mixes including the syrups and shrubs. Then use those to create the delicious drinks! I am now venturing out and creating my own flavor combo's I enjoy...usually something pretty tart/bitter with a hint of sweet

Saturday Feb 04 - Drinks, one of them out. Having a nice Sunday so far. Plan is AF today, and to stay above 50% for the rest of the month. Planned drinks (and dinner) pre-ballet Wednesday (Cinderella).
Rolling total: 2AF days out of 4 days. 50% won't cut it in 28 days4 -
2 days AF
3 days A
I'm satisfied with my progress so far.
Goal is 14 days AF for February.6 -
So last night I stuck to my plan, until... I didn't. I actually went to the Volksfest, came home and made dinner for my son and then went back! But, no regrets, I got to spend some time with one of my brothers who I don't see often. Back on track today, definitely AF today so that is 3/5 AF days for me so far this month. Looking forward to getting a good night's sleep and feeling rested tomorrow for a new work week.

Ha! I needed a straight edge shovel. Love the hockey stick!
@zensome the festival and family time sounds super fun.
Had a moderate weekend (by my standards)… 2 wine Fri (one before dinner, one after), 2 wine Sat with dinner (had stepdad over) and a cocktail tonight=5 for the week.6 -

I agree with @joans1976, we are a kind and real and smart and fun group.....wonderful for you to say...!
So February is the month I am taking a break from counting, just challenging myself to put in the time for daily cardio exercise and socializing. This is really, really hard for someone like me (nerd with many desktop spreadsheets tracking it all) but I think it will help me because I need to quit all the micro-counting (calories and drinks and miles and steps and the points and the scale weight) and re-focus on devoting quality time to my physical well-being and socialization.
This aside, I understand each one of us is unique and we need to find our own solutions...and any solutions that work and do no harm are perfect...doesn't matter if it's prescribed medication, psychotherapy, sticking to tracking, herbal teas, stress gummies, AF drinks, etc. I think it's smart and perhaps necessary to lean on friends or a professional if going at it alone hasn't proven successful.
The important thing is that each day we work on doing it..being better than the day before and we move towards realizing our better selves.8 -
