LESS Alcohol ~ FEBRUARY 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

Wow, so many pages to read through with all the updates!
I went to dinner Tuesday night and had a glass, then yesterday felt strong cravings, especially since I felt like celebrating a light day at work and getting out at a reasonable time, so I poured myself some wine.
AF days are not as easy at first when you start drinking every day. So far I only have 2 AF days this month. Somehow my weight is down today, so at least it’s not a total wash.8 -

100% agree- I was thinking back over my journey and it's been definite baby steps...1 day/week dry, then 2 days, and many days there's still the craving...6 -

Yesterday was AF! There were a couple of temptations but once I poured my juice and focused on something else, the desire went away!
I did order Ritual Whiskey Zero proof yesterday. My husband and I make more mixed drinks with whiskey vs tequila so thought I'd give it a try. The reviews say it's not good for sipping (which we never do) but works well for mixers.
There was also a suggestion to use it to reduce alcohol content of a drink but get pretty much the same taste. So if it called for 2 parts whiskey - use 1 part actual whiskey and 1 part Ritual.
I'll provide an update once it arrives!

February accountability: 3 days AF
Alcohol: 6 days (10 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
2/9 - 2 wine
Thank you all for giving me a place to be accountable ... stopped at 2 this evening thought another glass sounds welcoming. Night all!9 -
Day 7 0ut of 28 with no wine this month. I had wine on my Friday. Did not finish the bottle. Drinking lime Bubly with a splash of juice.8

Trashed my back somewhere along the way...been feeling the twinges but figured it was just overworked muscles protesting. Today, I had to give Bentley a bath since he got stuck laying in pee, and I almost got stuck sitting on the edge of the tub. Forced myself through it, and went to the chiropractor.
Noticed this evening that the whole right side of my head hurts, my usual indicator for the onset of an ear infection which I've always been prone to, so tomorrow it's off to the doctor and get something for that. I have a Z-pak in my bag but I'd rather not take it without something to put in its place. The bag has all sorts of fun stuff, from tourniquets and chest seals and Quik Clot and Israeli bandages right on down to Benadryl and naproxen. It started off as a pretty basic trauma kit and started growing over time.
I ate pretty healthy today, getting back in the routine of cooking dinner at home so that's good. Wrapping up with a little wine, but not much - gotta get up early and I've been getting garbage sleep lately. Going to try and get that back on track, too. Been making a lot of cappuccinos, too. This morning, I tried Illy Classico instead of my usual Bustelo, that's some really tasty coffee!

@itladyee I failed at any planned relaxation today! instead woke up at 3:45 am, went out to run and went straight to work, yet another 10 hr day (sitting which is not great). I am stuck in a pattern of disequilibrium in which most of my time is spent supporting work colleagues, clients, husband, etc.
I do need to prioritize myself, wellness, and get my work-life imbalance in order in order to get rid of additional stressors.8 -
@joans1976 I see you mentioned: I joined this lovely thread in the summer of 2022 and it has made a huge difference in my life! I’ve gone from being 25% AF to 98% AF.
I am super-proud of you. This is so amazing but it's you who put in the effort that did it

Hey everyone, I’m Amanda. I live in Michigan and it is freezing and gray here but at least it’s staying light out past 5 pm now. ☀️

2/8: AF
Not a lot to report here. Definitely feeling my seasonal affective disorder but not drinking, that won’t help. Very tired all the time.
2/9: AF
TGIF! 6 hours of work today then loads of self care for the weekend.
7 days AF9 -
@globalhiker Thanks, I needed to hear that 🥹5

Hi - Robyn here in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I had 18 AF days last month. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss. I post the next morning.
2/9: Drinks (1.5) - We went out to dinner where I enjoyed one glass of cabernet. I stuck to my guns when DH asked me if I wanted another, then later we were both glad that we didn't have that extra drink. We estimated a savings of $30. Once home, we split a bottle of The Truth Imperial IPA. I'm recovering from a cold and the drinks knocked me out initially but then I had trouble sleeping. I have a big day at work today too. No meetings, so I'm hoping to get caught up on some projects.
TGIF!!!
Rolling Total: 5 AF Days out of 97 -
Ok gang. I have done 48 consecutive days AF.
Dry January, plus 9 days Feb
On the tarmac waiting for American Airlines to lift. A layover in Dallas then on to my destination VEGAS.
I will be having a few while out there. Just saying 😉13 -
Have fun in Vegas. Happy Friday, all.
AF so far this week. More importantly, did ST M-Th. Trying to ease back into my previous weights. Not much DOMS so probably too much ease, too little lift. Will have drinks this weekend, hopefully not too many. No big plans. The interns plan a Superbowl party here with their cohort at several other firms. So great for them to have friends in other companies. DH and I plan to stay out of their hair.
I also woke early (for me anyway, 5:30) and just got dressed and started the day. Slept on my office sofa all week because of snoring situation. Uncomfortable but at least I actually sleep there. Not so much last night, which is a bummer.6 -
@globalhiker
Sorry that you didn't get your hour in the hot tub, but at least you are getting out for runs, which is switching off in its own way.
I do remember the hormone thing, I was already a poor sleeper since the age of 7, then to add meno on to that I was a total mess from being sleep deprived.
Almost the weekend, so I hope that you can schedule in some fun things and some serious downtime, even if only for 10 minutes.
Hugs7 -
Forgot to post yesterday...
@MissMay enjoy that time in Sin City
I have been painting for two days now and my hands are swollen from arthritis. So will have to wait another few days to continue.
We did go out for lunch on Wednesday and I had 2 beers then AF yesterday, plan to be that way today. This weekend is up in the air.
@ahoy_m8 sorry you slept on your work sofa......I call it midnight serenading LOL had a good chuck of time with that myself last night. No amount of gentle nudging seemed to help this time.

I am in.
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 17AF days for January (a long month)
I do this diary style to keep track, and I post the next morning
Saturday Feb 04 - Drinks, one of them out. Having a nice Sunday so far. Plan is AF today, and to stay above 50% for the rest of the month. Planned drinks (and dinner) pre-ballet Wednesday (Cinderella).
Sunday Feb 05 - AF - Felt tempted watching the Grammy's, but didn't imbibe.
Monday Feb 06 - AF - Had some work stress and definitely wanted to have drinks afterward, but didn't. Planned AF for Tuesday so as to be "fresh" to enjoy the ballet on Wednesday.
Tuesday Feb 07 - AF - Felt like having drinks as usual, but planning on drinks pre and post ballet so could wait.
Wednesday Feb 08 - 2 1/2 drinks, 2 would have been enough. The ballet was fabulous, Cinderella and very comedic. I didn't have a chance to post Thursday morning since I was up later than usual and didn't have time in the morning.
Thursday Feb 09 - AF - I will probably have drinks over the weekend.
Rolling total: 6AF days out of 9 days. 50% AF won't cut it to reach my goal in 28 days (reminder to self)5 -

Vegas is aight. I like it best as a place to land the plane on my way to a nice outdoors destination like Death Valley, Bryce, Red Rock etc.
Safe travels!

Ritual Whiskey arrived yesterday....
Hmmmmm..... the jury is still out!
I mixed it with cran-pomegrante (diet) juice. It was ok. I'm thinking if I add some bubbly to it... like sparkling water it might be better.
I want to try it with 7up (7 and 7) and see how that flies and to reduce alcohol content as I mentioned.
It will definitely be mind over matter. Bottom line - it's not whiskey and will never be. They include "flavors" and a hint of pepper to give a "so-called" burn. Ha! It's just different but I can see using it consciously as a substitute just like I use my juice for a substitute for wine.
@globalhiker ~ do you best to carve out some time for YOU, even if it's just 15 minute (to start). Even if it's at work. I'm guilty of working straight through the day - lunch and all, but sometimes I will take that needed break. It does help!
@mfowler883 ~ Tagging you for whiskey update!
I don't anticipate another AF day until 2/13. Tonight is possible, then tomorrow is my grandson's Birthday Party (no concerns there), then dinner that night and Sunday is Superbowl!2/1 AF

I'm another person who is always prepared for disaster. I always carry QuikClot and a tampon (which can be used for bullet wounds), even when I go out with just a small purse. You never know when you might need it especially because I'm out late in NYC sometimes. My partner was walking through Manhattan at night a few weeks ago with a paper bag of crostini bread and someone shot the bag and it exploded and the bread went everywhere. He thought he had been shot at with a real gun but when he got home and told me about it I noticed that the back of his jacket had paintball paint splattered all over it. Still though, like who does that?? I also always carry pepper spray and one of those ResQMe car window smasher and seatbelt cutter things. Some of the people in this area drive like maniacs, especially Uber and Lyft drivers, so you never know.
Anyway probably going to have a drink tonight. I'm not going out, just to an online event (it's sometimes online and sometimes in person but this week it's online). That Lindsay Clancy case and the amount of people fawning over her has really upset me this week, as a survivor of a violent abusive mother. So I've wanted to drink every day this week which is probably bad, but I didn't. Probably going to try one of the Heady Toppers I brought back from Vermont in July. I got them for my partner but he doesn't really drink at home so he never had them. I don't know if they're still good or not but only one way to find out. Then on Sunday I'm going to my friend's Super Bowl party that she has every year and I'll probably bring a pitcher of mojitos since people always like those. What's upsetting though is that my friend who passed away last week was supposed to be at that party. My friend who's hosting said she considered cancelling when she realized he was supposed to be there. But then she realized he would want her to continue with life and she didn't want to be at home alone and upset watching the game. Still I'm sure it will be kind of somber for that reason.8 -
Yeah unfortunately stuff happens. I've never actually needed to provide that level of aid but like some other things, better to have and never need that to need even once and not have.
Bentley is in getting x-rays and labs right now. The vet that provides radiology for our usual guy is speculating that he may have gotten something like a tick-borne illness. That would certainly explain why the previous treatments haven't helped and he has been declining. We're just trying to get him better.

Another day wine free...The rest of my bottle calls me from the fridge but I am waiting. The weight loss and stronger willpower due to not being tipsy when hubby starts eating his nightly sweets is more rewarding than the buzz.. 10 lbs down today. 1shot of whisky to ease post work aches. My Job involves a little heavy lifting and hard labor; better than pills,

2/10 - 1 drink; Blackberry Creme de Mure Liqueur with club soda6
-
Shopping with SIL then have the grands overnight so that equals a dry day and evening. It makes it easier when I have a reason to not drink. I look forward to the day it feels more natural instead of so tough sometimes. As far as Super Bowl Sunday I will jump off that bridge when I come to it. We will not be going anywhere so won't be on the roads with drinkers at least.7

You would think I had multiple drinks last night with the headache I woke up with but no! Just a crazy headache.
I made a comfort stone yesterday in art therapy and it was such an excellent shot of dopamine, I am going out today to buy more materials to make more.
I hope everyone has an excellent weekend!6 -
@MamaJammy Congrats on 10 lbs off! Very inspiring!7

Hi - Robyn here in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I had 18 AF days last month. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss. I post the next morning.
2/10: AF - Stayed AF because I snacked big-time between lunch and dinner - all healthy food, but dang it! I got in a workout with weights and Pilates during lunch. I was still surprised when my weight was down this morning. My foot still has a lot of healing to do, but it is feeling better. I'm going to try to do/learn a Dance Marshall routine today and maybe get on the Peloton.
Rolling Total: 6 AF Days out of 107 -
I have to try out Dance Marshall. They do some of my favorite songs - particularly the 80s stuff. I think I can probably keep up with grandma… But I have to find a time when my husband is out of the house because he thinks I dance like Elaine from Seinfeld! What can I say …. I am enthusiastic! And he can occasionally be a bit Kramerish, so we belong together.
Do you think you dance better sober or with a few drinks? What does the rest of the world think …..
6 -
@Sinisterbarbie1 Ha! I dance in the bedroom with the door closed! One time, hubby came in and joined me. It was a good laugh. With Dance Marshall I have to practice one routine over and over before I can even come close. It's a lot of fun. I laugh at myself.
I agree with the mantra to "dance like no one is watching." However, I/we don't generally dance in public, but enjoy being at a music venue where others are dancing. Occasionally, we will dance while out and not totally sober.6 -
@joans1976 What is a comfort stone? Share a photo if you are so inclined.5
