@chris_in_cal - how was is down your way? I am hoping tomorrow won't be so bad!
San Diego was very wet. It rained all day. Not catastrophic. The Weather Service announcement sounded apocalyptical...we made it through.
Now flowers, weeds, and grass for the next six months.
I miss running. I'll probably go out Sunday. Derm will remove the stitches in two weeks, but I should be good going out gently.7 -
That's a lot of rain @shanaber ! Love your backyard!
@tarun_yadavA You may have struggled, but now you are a local legend! WTG!
Great running @SummerSkier . I have yoyo weight too. Right now, I'm struggling with a 10 ish pound weight gain, but if I can lose it, I like your attitude that at least the amplitude of the gain is less than normal!
I can imagine that your are beat @Scott6255 . Great running though.
Nice running @martaindale . Love that you and your DH are training for the runs in Nov. And that you are doing three. You are amazing. I'm sure you will enjoy the time together.
@ScienceofTeaching You are doing great. I hope you can run tomorrow and it feels better for you.
Enjoy @eleanorhawkins . Look forward to hearing about it when you get back to where you can post here.
@shanaber and @chris_in_cal Glad you are both okay with all of the rain you are having.
I went to town this morning to get some shopping done. I intended to run when I got home, but I didn't sleep well last night and I was tired. Plus our phones were out (yes, I still have a land line) and I was trying to report that and hate dealing with the phone company. Plus it was a cool, drizzly day. I just couldn't bring myself to muster the energy to run, but I did get in a 3 mile walk on the treadmill at 3.8 mph.

@eleanorhawkins - I have friends here who have walked multiple parts of the Camino. They have made lifelong friends with people they met along the way and have gone back to walk other parts with them. The pictures were amazing and they found everyone so welcoming and kind. I will find out where they went and let you know.
@Laurz9191 - There is quite a bit of flooding especially in the central part of the state where there have been several levee breaks. Before this I didn't know there were so many around the state other than in the Sacramento River area. Fortunately we don't live in an area prone to flooding even though we are on a 100 year flood plain. There are many streets and freeways that have flooded but not so much here that are damaging homes. What has been happening a lot though are trees falling over on cars and in some cases on houses. The rivers are really full to - LA river and near my house the Santa Ana River. Hobbes and I went over there to check it out today and it was really moving fast. Unfortunately all of our recharge basins are full so they have no were to go with all the water now. There just hasn't been enough time between storms for the water to settle into the basins so more can be added.
@chris_in_cal - glad all is well with you and you are feeling like you can get out for a gentle run soon. Our weather service really downplayed the rain we would get (focused more on LA County) and we were not at all expecting how bad the storm was here. Surprised us that they closed the 5 and 91 FWYs here because of flooding for several hours.
@ScienceofTeaching - some days are like that and you just do what you can. Tomorrow will be better barring the storm!
I got Hobbes out for a run today in between the storm cells. It felt fantastic even with the wind howling in my face for a lot of it. The river as expected, was very full and moving fast. When we started it was partly sunny but the clouds moved in threatening rain. We didn't quite make it home before the rain hit us just as we turned into our neighborhood. I cut my cooldown mile a bit short as I was cold from being wet and the wind blowing the rain into me. Finished with 2.3 miles walking (warmup and cooldown) under a 14.3min pace and 3.4 miles running at 12.5min pace.
I am now up to a bit over 37 miles for the month but should be able to easily meet my goal and maybe a bit extra.

I forgot to post my run yesterday. (Seems like most of the Texans did.) It was a little chilly, but not cold and I ran 5.25 miles. It was warmer this morning and I didn't need sleeves or gloves. It was a little windy, but otherwise it was really nice. I ran 6 miles. It wasn't a fast run, but I did try to pick up the pace the last two miles and mile 6 was the fastest miles. Both runs were pretty good, but I am tired of the wind.
Happy Belated Birthday @Teresa502 . I would have to say my favorite type of cheesecake is the New York style with strawberry. But the Reese's peanut butter sounds like something I would like to try.

Morning all
Got in a 10K
@quilteryoyo - as always, thank you for the kind words and encouragement 😊
@eleanorhawkins - good luck with the Big walk! 🙌This weekend right?
@Teresa502 @martaindale the Reese's chocolate peanut butter cheesecake does sound good... But I don't know if the Cheesecake Gods will punish me or not for cheating on the Cinnabon Cinnamon Swirl one! 😂4 -

I was halfway to town when I saw the text that my friend was bailing on me this morning. So, I went to my office and ran on our corporate campus. Saw a duck, two rabbits and one skunk. The temp was a nice 48F.
Thanks for the information on the detonations of the bombs @Laurz9191. Very interesting.
@martaindale – It’s so nice that you and your hubby are doing a Disney weekend. Nice to have a training partner, races to train for, and a weekend away to look forward to!
@quilteryoyo – We are supposed to have record breaking warm temperatures today. Hope you have a chance to be outside and enjoy it!
@tarun_yadavA - I ate too many cinnabons after a race one time. That was in 2017 I believe and it still doesn't appeal to me at all!2 -
@martaindale Super-cool to go to races together. I'm jealous :-)
@tarun_yadavA yeah, we travel tomorrow, I should be packing but keep getting distracted.
Just had some super exciting news I know you guys will understand while nobody else will. The first race in this year's World Skyrunning Series is happening locally a week after my marathon, so I signed up to volunteer. (I wouldn't run it anyway, it's more climbing than running!) Just been told I've been given a post pointing people the right way at a crossroads, so I'm going to get to see and direct the elites! And all the other crazy people that like risking their lives and limbs running around on the tops of mountains, of course, hahaha!
I went out and did my last run of the month this morning. I'm not too sure how my brain is going to cope with not running again until the 2nd of April, but my legs will appreciate the rest. Kinda sad when you start thinking of walking 115 or so km as a rest!

You will have so much fun directing the runners!
All that walking is going to be great cross-training and still time on your feet!

@Teresa502 yeah that's what I keep telling myself, especially as at this point with stress, teenager drama and leg issues I'm fully intending to use a Galloway method (run-walk-run) strategy for my entire marathon and as I'm a slow walker I really need to improve my walking!
I forgot, I have more exciting news. As accidentally signing up for races is getting old, for my latest trick I've persuaded the two girls (ok, they're in their 30s) who joined our little local trail club this year to sign up with me as a relay team for a 130km ultra in November. I'm not sure whether I'm going to end up having to do the second (middle) section, which is something unpleasant like 47km with 2700m of elevation gain, or the third section, which is 42k with 2250m of elevation gain, and then all 3 of us do the final 10km, 400m elevation gain, section together. We have from 6am to 1pm the next day to finish. It looks like whoever does the toughest middle section will finish in the dark, and whoever does the third section will be going overnight AND have the added challenge of doing a total of 52km with no rest.
My name is Eleanor, and I have a problem. LOL.10 -
@eleanorhawkins Now you’re recruiting others into your race signup madness!! I love the idea of a relay like that. I haven’t come across any locally and don’t have a group to run it with, but maybe someday things will fall into place. It seems like a fun environment for a race.5

Warm-ish this morning (about 70F) but cloudy so not terrible for an easy run. I went to Pilates last night. It was hard and I expected to be more sore today than I am, so that’s good. I may try for a massage this evening. My legs and shoulder could use some help.7 -
@eleanorhawkins yes, you do have a problem....but know that you are in good company! That is cool about getting to see and direct the elites. And good luck on your walk.
@martaindale very nice that you and your husband will be running Disney together. I guess you have become a fan of Disney races
As @martaindale said, it was a very 70F this morning, and 95% humidity. I actually slept an hour longer than I usually do, so I had to cut it short and only got 7 miles in. But being so hot, I was happy about that.

@eleanorhawkins I hope you enjoy walking the trail. I wanted to do that way back in 2010, but didn’t because I didn’t know what to do with my dog while I was hiking. I would love to hear what it’s like. It is funny you consider multiple days of hiking to be rest .
That’s really awesome about helping out at the cloud race and about the relay. The relay sounds “fun”. I don’t know how I would feel about running in the middle of the night though. That must definitely be a huge additional challenge/adventure.
Today I had my last speed work before the race. I hit all my splits this time so I was happy about that. Oh, and it was “warm” enough for me to wear shorts today. I haven’t worn shorts outside since my New Year’s salami race when we had a day of oddly warm weather. I ran a total of 9.75km, bringing my March total to 168/175 km.

Great running and walking @shanaber ! Stay safe if more rain is heading your way.
Great running @kgirlhart !
@tarun_yadavA You're welcome and great run today. I'm glad to see you are less sore.
@Teresa502 Sorry your friend baled on you today, but you did great on your own. I'm working today, but will be out with the kids after their nap. We had a heavy fog this morning. Did you?
@eleanorhawkins Enjoy your trip and how exciting for your volunteer opportunity. Enjoy that as well. Hahaha about the ultra. That sounds intense. At least you will have company.
Great run @martaindale . Glad you aren't too sore.
Nice "short" 7 miles today @Scott6255 !2 -

I feel that the serious runners in this group should put together a relay team for a race in a pretty location. Then it can be a MFP runners convention.6 -
Plan called for a tempo run this morning. I cut it a little short on the warm up and cool down. I did 5 min low intensity (4.5 mph), 30 min medium intensity (5.2/3.8 mph to keep my HR at 130-140 bpm - times varied), walked 2 min, 3 min at 4.5 mph. I walked a total of 1 mile for warm up and cool down and ran 3.50 miles in 45:20 min for an average pace of 12:57 min/mile (4.6 mph). My avg HR was 133 with a max of 147 bpm. Total of 4.5 miles today in 1h01m10s.

Today's run was another 6 miles. It was 68°F and not windy. It was a little warm, but since the sun wasn't up it wasn't too hot and it was pretty pleasant. It may be raining in the morning. I am just planning a mile or two so if there is no lighting I may just run in the rain. I know some of you enjoy that, but it isn't really my favorite thing.

Went ahead and finished up my morning run with 4 miles on the treadmill after work.

Hi all. I'm home recovering from my surgery on Tuesday. Everything went well and I've been feeling ok, keeping on top of the pain with a whole range of pain meds. I was able to get up and walk very quickly and it got easier the more times I made the stroll to the restrooms (quite a long ways in the recovery unit I thought). I was thankful for my strength training that I could rely on my legs and core to get up and down without using my arms. That's functional training in action! After being discharged I stayed one more night in Boston and went for a short walk outdoors to soak in some sunshine. I had the 5 hour drive home yesterday but it was ok and great to be back in my own bed.
I'm hoping to get a walk in everyday at least once. I'll set some goals for that to keep me motivated towards getting back to running down the road. For now, I'm trying to be a model patient and get a ton of sleep, drink my water, and take my meds. I have a couple of log sheets so that all feels so familiar.
Hope you all are doing well. Thanks for all your good thoughts. Very relieved to be on the other side.10 -
@katharmonic that is so great to hear the surgery went well and you are recovering so well!
@tarun_yadavA happy birthday to your wife! Enjoy all the celebrating0 -
I feel that the serious runners in this group should put together a relay team for a race in a pretty location. Then it can be a MFP runners convention.
@spl8 - we actually tried to organize this once in Hawaii. At the time we had a runner who lived on the Big Island and invited anyone who wanted to camp on her property to come on over. There was a relay race up the volcano and at least one runner and her husband went. It is tough trying to organize and find a time/place that people can agree on and get to but seems like it would be so much fun!
@Laurz9191 - Good luck and have fun!
@tarun_yadavA - Happy Birthday to your wife! I feel you on the ongoing celebrations! Going through it here too. Had a big dinner out with my husband that was actually really nice and I think I kept it under control for the most part. More parties though this weekend!
So happy to hear you are recovering well @katharmonic! Getting out in the sunshine is the best medicine sometimes, I think!
Have a great trip @eleanorhawkins!!5 -

Good news. Your pre-surgery plan to keep your momentum is really smart. Get well soon.

I am seeing my doctor today, a week post surgery. If everything is on track I'm getting back out....today.7
-
@katharmonic So glad to see that everything went as well as possible and that you are home. Walking every day and following the doctor's orders are great goals. You are in such good shape, you will do great with your recovery. Thanks for checking in and letting us know how you are doing.
It was 82F (27.8C) when I got home from work. I was tired, but made myself go out for my run. It was supposed to be a low intensity run. I tried to keep my HR between 120 and 130 bpm, but soon saw that the heat and hills was not going to let that happen. So, I ran more by feel and tried to keep my HR below 140. I did that for the most part. I walked a total of 1 mile and ran/walked 2.25 miles in 31:43 min for an average pace of 14:06 min/mile (4.3 mph). My avg HR was 140 with a max of 153. I'm glad I did it. I'm supposed to play tennis at noon tomorrow, on the team. I hope the weather allows that to happen.

We had thunderstorms overnight, so I did not sleep well. My 13 year old collie does not like thunder and she didn't sleep well either. It was still raining when I got up so I did an hour long yoga and by then it had stopped raining so I was able to get out and run 2 miles for my streak.
@katharmonic I am glad the surgery went well. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Good luck on your race @Laurz9191!
