Wow, 3 people finished that crazy race! I watched a documentary on the Barkley marathons (The race that eats it's young) and it was absolutely nuts. From the registration to all the requirements to the actual race. It was hilarious and ridiculous.2

Got to run outside today 😁 6 miles.

@tarun_yadavA and @Laurz9191 - I would 2nd strudel as a pie! Yum! I have not found any here that can compare to those made in Germany and Austria, even at the German restaurants here.
@Scott6255 - I wonder if they made changes earlier this week that impacted the formatting. I was having a lot of problems even getting in and chalked it up to MFP system changes...
@chris_in_cal - glad you got thru the procedure and hopefully will heal just fine. I have had a couple on my hands removed too but my dad had melanoma and had so many surgeries for it. It is so important to get them taken care of as early as possible.
I think some of you are getting our storm as it moves across bringing the high winds and rains. I saw there were some tornado winds and hail around Dallas and I hope none of our Texas friends or their families were impacted.
We are actually having a bit of a respite from the storms for a couple of days. Today it got up to 70F and tomorrow it is supposed to hit 75F. We do have more rain coming Sunday and into next week but then a break again. I have read they think we may have this pattern on into April but I don't see anything yet on the forecast after the one early next week.
I got out for a run with Hobbes the Vizsla today. The plan was to do my warmup fast walk to the trail, run at least 3 miles on the trail and then a cooldown home. I got a warning that my watch battery was low but thought there was enough left to finish my run. I was wrong. It died and I had no idea how far I had actually run or how much more I needed. I switched to Strava on my phone but it had issues getting the GPS signal so I just ran back to the trail entrance and towards home hoping to get at least a mile to get me to 3. Well I had already passed the 3 mile mark on my watch when it died so the additional mile plus I ran brought me to 4.15. It may have been a bit more since I know I ran some before I realized my watch had died and when my phone couldn't find the GPS. In any event I am up to 26miles so far walking and running. No pain or problems with my toe, it seems to be healing fine.
I had my regular appointment with my cardiologist this week and they review the recordings from the pacemaker over the last 6 months. I had asked previously about the range that they see and was told the lowest it could go was 50 so any measurement on my watch below that is wrong. This time I asked about the high side. It will only pace up to 140. My HR can push higher without the PM but it is unlikely. I told him I had seen it much higher when I run and he said again the watch is wrong. They typically see the high in 110-120 range even during times when I am running! I was shocked and it makes me question all the measurements my watch is taking when I am running.5 -
Morning everyone!
Got in 9K!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!6 -
@shanaber that is interesting about your cardiologist and your HR. I sometimes wonder if when my HR spikes over 190 (and I am not faint or passing out) that things are accurate. Even the polar chest strap I use seems to go stupid sometimes. I know it's important to track but 110 seems a little low for when you are running. Since you stay at a slower rate I could definitely see 120 as your avg tho. My fitbit always reads pretty high. My apple watch reads high (maybe because both of these are on my wrist?) and the chest strap seems most accurate. But I have always had a high rate when running (160's typical for not pushing the pace too hard). And it drives me crazy that it never improves for sprinting no matter how much I train.
Halfway thru the month but I think I have settled on a 120 miles goal. LOL. I was going to try for avg of 5 but that is just too much for me.
I ran thursday night and it was 80 and I literally was melting down. Then yesterday I had to bundle up because it was 40's and strong north wind. Even had to switch my furnace on again in the house... Luckily no freezes predicted so my Purple Martins and the spring buds and flowers should be fine. It's colder this morning but the wind seems to have died. If it's not raining it might be pleasant to run.

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far! It's a busy busy weekend for me. I play upright bass, and I'm an occasional ringer with a symphony orchestra in the next county. It's a concert weekend with them, so I had a looooong rehearsal last night, then a concert tonight and another tomorrow. Plus, I have a birthday party with family this afternoon, so I'm booked pretty solid today.
Anyway, I did end up getting a few miles this morning. I knew that if I didn't go out this morning, I wouldn't make it out for the weekend. Did 1.4 mile of mostly running with a few walking intervals, then another mile of just walking.5 -

Not a cardiologist here, but I seem to be able to get up to 110 with a tiny effort. I can't imagine that's a max while running. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ BTW: that is the best job in an orchestra. Triangle too.2 -

Last run at the hill country before heading home tomorrow and back to the real world with work and school. It’s always a little sad to have to leave.
After only a few runs on the hills I can feel the improvement in my fitness. When I am out here for a full week, the hills feels remarkably easier on the last run than the first. The usual amount of wind today, no crazy gusts, and nice cool temps. This week has been a nice respite from the warmer temps.6 -

So basically didn't expect to run this month, or any of the coming months as I'm trying to recover from a rather bad running/traffic accident at the beginning of December. Still have another round of surgery ahead of me, probably in June. Until then I'm mostly doing lots of mobility and strength training. Thus not really time and energy for running. This was interesting though, done after an hour of pull exercises. Surprised I got this far. My HR was super high though at 187. That's even high for me So basically every bit of running is an unplanned extra at the moment. And this was the first unplanned bit in ages.10 -
12 miles this afternoon. I made it harder on myself than it should have been on the way to my highest weekly mileage PR (51.2 miles). First, I forgot to start my watch at the beginning of today's run, losing almost a full mile. Second, going out on said run with 20mph sustained wind 😄. But glad I went out...I figured out a problem I was having at work that I couldn't figure out for weeks. Nice end to the week.

@tarun_yadavA, @Laurz9191, @shanaber et al - first it was Cadbury eggs, then pie, now strudel. Oy vey. I love strudel. Haven't had any proper strudel anywhere but Austria and southern Germany, though. But speaking of German desserts - Pflaumenkuchen (plum cake) - was my favorite as a kid. In the pie department, I'm all about strawberry rhubarb pie, which I make once a year when rhubarb is in season. And I love savory pies, which I make fairly regularly.
Got my longish run in today after missing it yesterday.6 -
March 1 – 5.05 miles
March 4 – 12.01 miles
March 6 – 5.02 miles
March 8 – 5.09 miles
March 11 – 18.97 miles
March 15 – 5.14 miles
March 16 – 5.15 miles
March 18 – 8.02 miles
Total – 64.45 miles
I hate a late night working last night (finished around 12:30) and back up before 6 am so I wasn’t sure I would be in the mood to run today especially in the colder temps. I got out for 8 miles though. Temp was 36F with 8 mph winds. At least the sun was shining.
Good to see you @yirara but I’m so sorry to hear about your accident. Hope your next surgery goes well and you are soon healed.

@SummerSkier - Since my HR has always been so low I am never sure anymore what to expect other than by how I feel. I know a reading of 150 or higher I would really be feeling it and other than when it is really hot or maybe when I have run all out sprint intervals I have never felt like it was that high. Typically under those conditions it has maxed out around 140-145.Even when I had a treadmill stress test, they kept using the speed and elevation and I could not get my HR up high enough. They wanted it at 150 or higher and I never hit that. So who knows maybe 120 is about right, especially lately when I have mostly been recovering and not pushing myself.
@ScienceofTeaching - love that you play the upright bass! Sounds like a very long, busy weekend but hope it is fun!
@yirara - glad to see you poking your head back in here! Were you hit while running? I hope not too seriously injured - yikes!
@Scott6255 - Can't believe you ran 12 miles in 20mph sustained winds. Hopefully you had a good 6 of them with the wind at your back! I have always loved figuring out problems when I am running (more when I was working than now though)! It fascinates me how that works. I guess it is just a matter of clearing out all the 'other' noise that allows for the clarity.
@spl8 - I did not think about rhubarb pie! My mom made the best and I have not had it in years.
Rest and errand day for me today. My legs are still tired from yesterday - I am amazed at how a few weeks of not really running knocks down my endurance and fitness, even though I was walking a lot.

I didn't post yesterday, but I did get a run in for my streak. I ran 3.25 miles. It was cold and windy, but not quite as windy as Thursday and I wasn't running straight into it as much. Today was still pretty chilly, but not windy. I just ran 2 miles today since I am planning a long run tomorrow. It will be cold tomorrow, but it isn't supposed to be windy. We actually are under a freeze warning from 3 am until 9 am, so I may wait until around 9 to run.

Aww, thanks a lot
Yeah, I was hit by a cyclist who bumped me into a pothole from which I took off. I seem to be rather aerodynamic as I flew quite far. And turned my shoulderjoint into a multipiece puzzle. While the bone is healing I still have massive problems with instability, a constantly subluxing biceps tendon and a few other things. Plus the bloody plate is annoying my deltoid. So once the bone is rock solid they'll remove the plate and try to fix these issues. Until then it's lots of lifting weights/bodyweight exercise and mobility work. And maybe a run or two if I feel like it.9 -
Morning all
Hope you're having a lovely Sunday3 -

@spl8 LOOOL! 😂
We run hard here, and eat harder... !!
(Or other way round maybe!? 😂)
PS: kudos on long run! 🙌

@shanaber Nice running. I'm sorry your watch died, but it did let you get in a longer run than you had intended. What kind of watch do you have?. I, too, am surprised that it is so different from your pacemaker. I was pleased when I had my stress echo that my watch HR matched the real time EKG almost exactly.
Great running @SummerSkier !
@ScienceofTeaching Very cool that you play in an orchestra. Enjoy your busy day and great job getting in a run where you could.
@martaindale Glad you enjoyed your week in the hill country.
@yirara Wow. I was wondering where you were. Big hugs to you. So sorry to hear about your running related car accident and all the surgeries. Sounds like you did great to run at all. I hope you have a few more unplanned runs soon. Please keep checking in to let us know how you are doing.
You're doing great @Scott6255 ! Congrats on your highest mileage for a week PR!
You did great @Teresa502 . You are a much "better" woman than I, getting out and running in this cold...after only getting 6 hours sleep....well, I guess less than that.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . That looks like a nice place for a run.
I did a treadmill walk after church and before lunch today. I started to wait and try for a run later, but decided I really do need a "rest day." I walked 2 miles at 3.8 mph.
Yesterday I did the same walk before heading to Knoxville for my tennis match. I dropped my mom off at my nephew's so she could spend some time with her great-grandson while I played. I did get to visit with them some too, before and after tennis.
Tennis was ok. It was a little hard because I had never played with my partner before, so we weren't used to each other. We got trounced 6-0, 6-2. But, a lot of the games were duce games, I felt I played good, the other team was nice, and we enjoyed ourselves. We lost the other two matches too. I guess winning isn't everything.

It was 31°F when I got up this morning, so I waited until about 9:45 to head out for a 10 mile run. It was 39°F feels like 34° so still pretty chilly starting out. It was a little more windy than I expected, but not as windy as it has been lately. I was chilly starting out in gloves, sleeves and capris, but warmed up during the run an took the sleeves and gloves off. I did put the gloves back on briefly after I had turned back heading east because I was cold running into the wind. It was definitely a run that needed layers. Despite the cold, it was a pretty morning and I enjoyed the run. I saw a flock of robins at the cemetery. I usually only see one or two at a time, but there at least 20 or more. A couple of dogs came off of their porches to bark at me but they stayed in front of their yards and didn't follow me or get aggressive.
I signed up for a 10K on April 22nd. I ran this 10K the last two years. I still miss my HM that I used to run, but I like the 10K distance too so I am pretty excited about.

Great 10 mile run this chilly morning @kgirlhart ! I hope you enjoy your 10K next month.

Did my 30 minutes of PT exercises then headed out into the drizzle. I didn't plan to go long and thought I may need to cut it short if it really started raining. Walked to the trail then tried a bit of walk/run but was feeling achy and my legs were not happy. So it ended up being mostly walking but I did get in some quicker intervals than I was doing before. It did spit rain at us off and on and at one point came down heavy but it wasn't not terrible. Knew the rain was coming because all the pelicans, cormorants, and ducks were hanging out together on the water and the Canadian geese were making a racket!
Wore my LA Marathon hat in honor of race day! Our news said the men's winner finished in 2 hours and 14 seconds! Ha! I thought that was pretty amazing but when I looked it up it was actually 2hours 14 mins! Still a fabulous time but not so close to breaking the 2hour mark. The weather was pretty perfect for the race. In the last few years it has been SO hot. Running in 55-60F with a bit of light drizzle was great!
Pictures of the birds hanging out today @SummerSkier as you requested 😊
There were fish or something in the water that they were all trying to get to
Hobbes stopping to sniff the flowers7 -
Good morning everyone!! 😊
Got in a 9k!7 -
WOW! thanks for the photos @shanaber those are awesome. SO.. MANY.... BIRDS.. I think the rain brings the fish up or something.
You will feel better tomorrow @tarun_yadavA I swear sometimes the idea of how awful my run will be keeps me from overdoing it the day before.7 -

I was supposed to meet friends to run this morning but they all backed out last night when they saw the temp was supposed to be 19F. So, I ended up running 3 miles on my treadmill.
@shanaber – Thanks for the article on Laz. I’ve had friends complete his Strolling Jim 40 and the Heart of the South race. The article didn’t mention it, but he also puts on a mini-Barkley, The Barkley Fall Classic, a 50K with some of the same elements as the 100-miler. I had a friend participate one year. That year the course had them go inside the abandoned Brushy Mountain prison. This particular friend is known for thriving on last-minute preparations. She bought a compass and attempted to learn to use it the night before the race. Although she did not get lost, she didn’t make the cut-off and got a DNF. I believe @7lenny7 participated in his GVRAT (Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee) one year.

It was another chilly run. 41°F feels like 37°F doesn't feel like Spring. But wasn't too bad and I ran 2.5 miles to keep my streak going.

I didn’t have time to post about my run yesterday. It was really hard. I couldn’t quite keep the pace my watch wanted me too. I was supposed to do 25 minutes at 10k race pace, but it was just hard to hold that fast of a pace while running alone on somewhat muddy terrain. But I wasn’t letting myself off the hook either and I was giving it my best effort, so I felt pretty good afterwards. For that run, I ran a total of 9.5 km.
Then today was just a 45 minute easy run. I did some strides at the end. It was a nice easy run and I got in 8km.
So far for March I have 145.1km/175km.
