It was 31°F when I got up this morning, so I waited until about 9:45 to head out for a 10 mile run. It was 39°F feels like 34° so still pretty chilly starting out. It was a little more windy than I expected, but not as windy as it has been lately. I was chilly starting out in gloves, sleeves and capris, but warmed up during the run an took the sleeves and gloves off. I did put the gloves back on briefly after I had turned back heading east because I was cold running into the wind. It was definitely a run that needed layers. Despite the cold, it was a pretty morning and I enjoyed the run. I saw a flock of robins at the cemetery. I usually only see one or two at a time, but there at least 20 or more. A couple of dogs came off of their porches to bark at me but they stayed in front of their yards and didn't follow me or get aggressive.
I signed up for a 10K on April 22nd. I ran this 10K the last two years. I still miss my HM that I used to run, but I like the 10K distance too so I am pretty excited about.

Great 10 mile run this chilly morning @kgirlhart ! I hope you enjoy your 10K next month.

Did my 30 minutes of PT exercises then headed out into the drizzle. I didn't plan to go long and thought I may need to cut it short if it really started raining. Walked to the trail then tried a bit of walk/run but was feeling achy and my legs were not happy. So it ended up being mostly walking but I did get in some quicker intervals than I was doing before. It did spit rain at us off and on and at one point came down heavy but it wasn't not terrible. Knew the rain was coming because all the pelicans, cormorants, and ducks were hanging out together on the water and the Canadian geese were making a racket!
Wore my LA Marathon hat in honor of race day! Our news said the men's winner finished in 2 hours and 14 seconds! Ha! I thought that was pretty amazing but when I looked it up it was actually 2hours 14 mins! Still a fabulous time but not so close to breaking the 2hour mark. The weather was pretty perfect for the race. In the last few years it has been SO hot. Running in 55-60F with a bit of light drizzle was great!
Pictures of the birds hanging out today @SummerSkier as you requested 😊
There were fish or something in the water that they were all trying to get to
Hobbes stopping to sniff the flowers7 -
Good morning everyone!! 😊
Got in a 9k!7 -
WOW! thanks for the photos @shanaber those are awesome. SO.. MANY.... BIRDS.. I think the rain brings the fish up or something.
You will feel better tomorrow @tarun_yadavA I swear sometimes the idea of how awful my run will be keeps me from overdoing it the day before.7 -

I was supposed to meet friends to run this morning but they all backed out last night when they saw the temp was supposed to be 19F. So, I ended up running 3 miles on my treadmill.
@shanaber – Thanks for the article on Laz. I’ve had friends complete his Strolling Jim 40 and the Heart of the South race. The article didn’t mention it, but he also puts on a mini-Barkley, The Barkley Fall Classic, a 50K with some of the same elements as the 100-miler. I had a friend participate one year. That year the course had them go inside the abandoned Brushy Mountain prison. This particular friend is known for thriving on last-minute preparations. She bought a compass and attempted to learn to use it the night before the race. Although she did not get lost, she didn’t make the cut-off and got a DNF. I believe @7lenny7 participated in his GVRAT (Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee) one year.

Did a short run with surges on this chilly first day of spring.5 -

It was another chilly run. 41°F feels like 37°F doesn't feel like Spring. But wasn't too bad and I ran 2.5 miles to keep my streak going.

I didn’t have time to post about my run yesterday. It was really hard. I couldn’t quite keep the pace my watch wanted me too. I was supposed to do 25 minutes at 10k race pace, but it was just hard to hold that fast of a pace while running alone on somewhat muddy terrain. But I wasn’t letting myself off the hook either and I was giving it my best effort, so I felt pretty good afterwards. For that run, I ran a total of 9.5 km.
Then today was just a 45 minute easy run. I did some strides at the end. It was a nice easy run and I got in 8km.
So far for March I have 145.1km/175km.

@shanaber thanks for the article and the pics!
@Laurz9191 good effort to keep going even though you weren't feeling it!
Got 8 miles in the hard way (treadmill). Just didn't want to deal with the strong north wind today.

@shanaber You did great doing what you could. I love all the pictures of the birds and Hobbes smelling the flowers if adorable!
Great run @tarun_yadavA after a weekend of not eating well and not feeling well. But, I hope you enjoyed your weekend!
Great treadmill run @Teresa502 . It was way too cold to run outside this morning.
Nice running in the chilly spring weather @spl8 and @kgirlhart .
@Laurz9191 Sometimes you just have to go with how you feel and forget about what the watch says. If you gave it your best, you did !
Glad you had a good run @Mari33a !
I did a interval run today. I cut the plan 5 min short...unless you count my walking as part of the low intensity, then I went 10 min over. LOL Anyway, I did a mile total for warm up and cool down. Then I did a warm up run/walk of 4.2/3.8 mph 10 min - walking when necessary to keep my HR between 120 and 130 bpm. I was going to try to do the intervals at 5.5/3.8 for 4/1 min, but 5.5 turned out to be a little too fast for me to maintain for 4 min. So, I experimented to find a pace that I felt was giving me the workout I needed. I think I wound up doing 5.5/5.0/3.8 mph for 2/2/3 min, 5.0/5.1/3.8 mph for 2/2/3 min, 3 x (5.2/3.8 mph for 4/3 min), 4.2/3.8 mph as needed to keep my HR between 120 and 140, then the last 6 min was at 4.5 mph. Ran a total of 4.50 miles in 1:00:33 min for an average pace of 13:27 min/mile (4.6 mph). My avg HR was 135 and max was 155 bpm. I was pleased with that.

@quilteryoyo thank you!
1-2 a month.
Planning on running all of March, as April - away for 2 weeks & unlikely I'll get to run much (just hotel gyms)3 -
@tarun_yadavA - I am amazed you are able to still run when you feel so bad. Hope you are feeling better!
@spl8, @SummerSkier, @kgirlhart, et al - I think a lot of the US is getting hit by the repeated storms we are having. I hope things don't freeze and impact the 'spring' that already started!
Yesterday was very wet until late afternoon. Today we are getting slammed with heavy rain and high winds. Tomorrow is supposed to be a repeat of today until late afternoon. At times like this I wish I had a treadmill or access to a gym. Guess today will be a strength training day and maybe yoga tomorrow. I honestly can't remember the last time we had this much rain and it isn't over yet. There is more on the way they are saying but there are a few sunny days coming later this week.
Tomorrow is my DH's birthday and a big one. We are going out to dinner on Thursday when hopefully it will be nice enough to sit outside. Over the weekend his brother is throwing a party for him and I am baking a chocolate stout cake. If it turns out there will be cake porn 😁😁
After all our discussions of food lately I saw this article in the 6 Minute Mile newsletter and thought I would share. It is about Low Energy Availability and performance. I also read some of the articles linked within it and they are pretty interesting too.
And because I have had time to read and look at shoes, I ordered these using my REI member credits and the member 20% off coupon! Caution shoe porn below:I don't have them yet so just a stock photo

Now today feels like a spring day out there. It was sunny and 52F when I finished up my lunch time run. Glorious! And, my Garmin told me I set 3 new records – fastest mile, fastest 5K and longest run yet! Ok, so I may have had to delete the app on my phone on Sunday and reinstall it because it would not sync….but still, it made smile to get those notifications. I need to have technical difficulties with it more often!
Cute shoes @shanaber! I’ve been considering order shoes with my member discount too. Happy Birthday to your DH. Mine was yesterday! I had dinner with friends that included a huge piece of cheesecake. It was soooo good! I will check out that article tonight.

Hello everyone,
Got in an easy 8km today including 4 strides. Tomorrow is just a short recovery run before doing a final short speed work session before the race on Sunday.
153.3/175kn so far for March.
Spoiler about this weekend’s disruption in my city.We are having a WWII bomb detonation day all day Saturday in my city (our 4th time in 2 years!), which means most of the city will be closed down, as a large section of the city will be evacuated and thus inaccessible until they finish detonating the bombs - which usually doesn’t happen until late into the night. Thousands have to evacuate their houses each time if they live within the bombs’ radius (luckily we are just outside it), but I will have to plan my running route accordingly- for example my main route passes right by the area. The train line is also shut down, and, as this is my preferred method to get to Sunday’s race, I really hope the trains will be up and running again by Sunday morning! The night from Saturday to Sunday is also when they change our clocks, so we will lose an hour that night too!4 -
@Laurz9191 hope there's not too much disruption for you...
@shanaber cake porn pics!!!! Lol, love it!!
Please post 🤤
@Teresa502 - happy belated birthday! Hope you had a lovely day!
Soooo what's everyone's favourite Cheesecake??
I'm gonna have one of these on my next trip to Cheesecake factory in a couple of weeks4 -
@shanaber I had read that article before. This is a difficult topic here with the context that though we're all runners, we probably actually came here because we were, or are, overweight. Which makes it even more important, but complicated, to listen to what the article is saying and avoid the perils of what can be a very serious issue.
I learned pretty quickly that I couldn't sustain the volume of training I do on 1300 net calories, which is what the formulas told me I needed to maintain. What I have yet to learn is exactly where the magic place is because either I'm underfuelling or I'm overfuelling and gaining 'fluff'.
Crazy week trying to get ready to leave for our trip on Friday, juggle teenager drama, training but trying not to overtrain and getting ahead with work to make up for the week I'll be off. At least it's taking my mind off the looming marathon. *gulp!*4
