I haven't made it for a few years because it probably has a gazilion calories if you even sniff it, but a household favourite is Easter rocky road. Melted chocolate mixed with golden syrup, crushed digestive biscuits, bashed up creme eggs, fudge pieces and little marshmallows then with mini eggs pressed into the top. Sweet as sin!5

@martaindale Super big HUGS going out to you, your husband, and kiddo 💔3
-
I worked through some aches and pains the last few days. But I feel good today. So I'm keeping at it.
I got out to run last night, and noticed I hadn't changed into my newer running shoes, I was wearing my ancient pair, encrusted with mud from working in the garden. I ran anyway.
March Running Goal: 16 runs, 21 miles- March 2 - 1.63 miles
- March 5 - 1.86 miles
- March 7 - 1.68 miles
Current: 3 runs, 5.17 miles

@martaindale sorry to hear about your kid sitch Sarah 😞
If it's any consolation, mine coulda done with a good kicking last few days.
Teenagers. Ugh. Such a pain in the proverbial.
PS: Cadburys Creme Egg... So gooey. Sooo gold though 🤤2 -
@martaindale so sorry to hear about your kid, but glad that you are getting them the help that they need! Not a parent myself, but I work with teenagers and I can't even imagine how tough parenting a teen would be.2
-
2.3 miles today. Chilly (43 degrees F) and windy, but sunny. Continuing to increase my intervals of running and decrease the walking. Making progress, even if it's slower than I would like.5
-
Did pilates for the first time yesterday and actually felt more upright and strong running today. Go figure.
@Martaindale - Sending you positive energy for fortitude for the upcoming weeks.3 -
@Teresa502 - Wow! What a gorgeous sunrise!
@tarun_yadavA - does London normally get snow? I mean in winter not March? I have always thought it was just cold, cold rain.
@Laurz9191 - so glad you were able to make it back to your car in that cold wet weather and that you ran in the warm gym the next day! Like @eleanorhawkins said be careful with the cold, especially when you are wet!
@martaindale - sending you hugs for you and the kid! It is so tough to be a teen, especially these days and even tougher to be a caring parent doing what they have to, to keep them safe.
I was listening to a podcast the other day about the impact of phones and social media on kids and the pressures it puts on them. Makes me glad mine missed most all of it (didn't get her first phone until she was 16 and driving by herself).
I am also one who loves chocolate Easter eggs! Our favs are the dark chocolate Bordeaux eggs and dark chocolate maple nut. YUM! I just don't go to the candy store anymore so they don't make it home to our house!
I actually got out for my first little run yesterday in over a month! The run part was only a bit over 2 miles but it felt great. I am taking it slowly and don't want to overdo it and end up sick again. I have my big toe nail procedure tomorrow afternoon but I am going to try to get a run in before I go in. I will need to baby that for a day or two and by then the rain will be here again. Right now they are showing the worst of it going north of us and I am hoping it stays that way. So maybe I can get out either Sunday or Monday.

@Teresa502 - awesome sunrise picture! 🌄
Raining this morning and after work so 7 miles on the treadmill today.

March Goal: 115 Miles
3/1: 5.06 miles
3/2: 5.51 miles
3/3: 2.15 miles
3/4: 2.02 miles
3/5: 10.1 miles
3/6: 5.1 miles
3/7: 5.27 miles
3/8: 1.05 miles
36.16/115 miles completed for March
I just ran 1 mile today for my streak. It was really unpleasant this morning. It wasn't quite raining, but very misty and cold. Hopefully it will be nicer tomorrow. But at least it wasn't snowing.
@Teresa502 Beautiful sunrise!
@quilteryoyo Yesterday I mentioned how pretty the moon was to my sister. She works at at school with Pre-K thru 2nd grade. She said it was pretty but she was ready for it to go away.

@shanaber hi! Good morning! Snowfall here (in London at least) is pretty irregular - some years it will snow for a couple of days, some years it won't. It snowed this winter for a couple of days (and I moaned here about the after effects - ie Icy paths which messed with my daily runs). For it to snow in March - weird. But then the weather here is getting weirder. last summer, we had a couple of days where it hit 40C (>100F). 🤷
Onto Teens-
As for cell phones and social media... Yep, you are right. Can't relate to some of the Teen problems here... But the phone bit resonates unfortunately. In my day (our day?? Lol - how old do I sound), a kid getting beaten up in the toilets happened, part and parcel of teen life at school, but back then, it was word of mouth. 'Did you hear? 'so-and-so got his *kitten* kicked by so-and-so?' Now it's filmed, and then shared every where. Social media use (in particular Snapchat) is shall we say, causing husband-wife parenting friction in this house.
It's a pain.
As for chocolate eggs... @eleanorhawkins
Your homemade sugar rush concoction sounds dee-lish! 🤤
I'd have one ready for after your 31Miler! Calories be damned! You'll have plenty in the tank!
That's the thing with chocolate Easter eggs (unlike bars of chocolate) - hard to stop. With a Mars or Snickers or KitKat, once you've eaten one, you know you're done. After that it's just greedy. But with an egg .. just keep picking at it.
Ate an entire one last year , came to about 700 cals 🫣
I have a 14yr old and a 8yr old, so they get a good 3-4 each from aunts/grandparents everyyear. So end-March /April, I have to be good and not over indulge!

Today's sluggish 9K3

Traveling to Charleston, SC today so no running for me and lots of sitting. It's about a 6-hour drive. Lots of drama yesterday/last night which I absolutely hate. Details in the spoiler if interested. One of the girls in our group has a sore throat and has had a low-grade fever. She went to doctor and tested negative for Covid and strep. She texted the group and offered not to go, to wear a mask in the car, to drive separately today, to wait and come on Friday if anyone felt uncomfortable. Myself and another girl responded that we were fine if she wore a mask in the car. She would be able to have her own room at the rental house we have. The other 3 girls never responded which left the sick one hanging all day. She asked me to text them in a separate text that she wasn't in so that they would feel like they could talk freely. 2 of the other 3 finally admitted to me that they did feel uncomfortable so then I had to relay that message... The sick one was disappointed but she respected their choice. When I asked the others if they knew someone who could take her place on her 2-person team or if we all were going to chip in and run it, I think the full implications of their decisions sunk in and the backpeddling began. They ended up telling her that if she didn't have a fever this morning, they were fine with her coming along. Such a difficult spot for everyone. Praying that she feels great today, no fever and no hurt feelings.
Big hugs @martaindale and all you parents out there loving and trying to do the best for your children.
I've never had a "real" Cadbury Easter egg. Don't care for the ones marketed here in the states. What I do love are the Reesee peanut butter eggs! I currently have a stash of the Christmas tree edition in my freezer along with 4 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies...Hello, my name is Teresa and yes, I have a problem. :-)
Hope all goes well with your nail procedure today @shanaber.10 -
@eleanorhawkins I'm glad your coach eased up on your requirements a little. I hope you didn't overdo on the hill repeats and your legs are okay today. That Easter Rocky Road sounds so sinful....maybe that isn't the word that should be used about something associated with Easter. I think I gained a gazillion pounds just reading about it.
You are doing great with the recovery @martaindale ! Big hugs to you re your child. I'm sure the changes are going to be hard and your kid will probably push back with all they have, but just remember you are doing this because you love them and they will realize that one day.....probably do now, just won't admit it.
Glad you worked through your aches and pains @chris_in_cal . You are doing great.
You're doing great @ScienceofTeaching ! Slow and steady will get you where you want to be.
Hope you toenail procedure goes well @shanaber and you are able to get out to run again over the weekend.
Re cell phones: I've said for years that I am glad I didn't grow up with them. I don't think I would have faired very well. It was hard enough being a poor outsider as it was. I can't imagine the pressure to fit in and the cyber-bullying that would have occurred with cell phones. Hugs to all with teenagers in this day and age. (That does make me sound really old. )
@tarun_yadavA It may have been sluggish, but at least you got it done. Great job slogging it out.
@Teresa502 Good luck with your race over the weekend and enjoy the trip! I hope your "sick" friend feels better today and there are no hurt feelings. It's hard to be put in the middle like that.
4 -
@eleanorhawkins I tend to accidentally sign up for races either on my day off or when I am sick . This time, I took a day off . I did want to sign up for the bike race but for the 42k course, but then I thought, the 100k race would be a nice challenge….
It sounds like your coach gave you good advice, to reduce intensity until you feel recovered. I hope the hill repeats didn’t put a damper in that plan . I want to start doing hill repeats instead of sprints because I am afraid of getting injured by bad form. I am currently looking around my area to find the right hill (it’s pretty flat around here, so not many to choose from, but most are too muddy to run at the moment)
All this talk of Cadbury eggs . Those are hard to come by here. I wouldn’t even know where to look. Germans are big on their chocolate bunnies. I can luckily usually avoid buying/eating those.
Today there was lots of snowy slush and it was raining, so I went the the gym again for a 7.2km treadmill run. So far I have 71/175km for March.6 -
@Teresa502 ugh, so difficult since Covid when that kind of thing happens. I hope everything works out and you have a great weekend!
@shanaber hope the procedure goes ok and you're not in too much pain afterwards.
@martaindale hugs. It's so, so hard.
@Laurz9191 you made me laugh, rest days are generally when I accidentally sign up for stuff or buy shoes. Rest days are dangerous!
I really do think that parenting (and indeed being) teenagers these days comes with so many extra added complications. Mobile phones/internet/social media really are not good for any of us (apart from MFP of course!) and especially not for inexperienced youngsters with brains that are still developing. Add a pandemic into the mix along with all the emotional/sexual/identity confusion that didn't really seem to be about when I was young and we have the ingredients for a heck of a mess!
I just realised that Easter is the week after my hiking holiday. Guess I'll deserve a little chocolate egg...
My leg doesn't like me today after those hill repeats. Neither do my glutes, oh boy can I feel the fact that I was focusing on engaging them.
I have a 5k race on Saturday, was supposed to be doing it with my friend but she's unwell so it might just end up being the long intervals I told the coach I don't feel like doing. Or I might just jog it. Or I might not bother, we'll see what the leg has to say after a day off.
4 -
Mmmm all this talk of chocolate eggs is making me hungry, and I already had my lunch luckily, no chocolate in my classroom apart from my emergency hot chocolate packets for days when tea just won't cut it haha.
I'm allergic to milk, so I'm not supposed to eat most chocolate unless I want to make myself sick. Dairy free chocolate is getting easier to find, which is nice. I saw on Facebook that reeses is going to start having a plant based peanut butter cup this month, so I'm really looking forward to that!4 -
I joined Myfitnesspal to track my eating and try to lose a few COVID and menopause pounds. I joined this group for accountability in my running habit. And all you guys are talking about is Cadbury eggs and other Easter chocolate..... aaaaaaaaaaaah!
I think I'll go have a nice salad or some such for lunch now. (*sigh*)

Sorry! I'm having salad too, but at least I can fantasise (sp? D'oh) about chocolate while I do5 -
@eleanorhawkins Sorry that your legs aren't happy with you at the moment. I hope they feel better by Saturday, for your race. Unless it is a long way away, I'd probably run it, but speed would depend on how my legs/body felt. You've paid for it, right? Might as well take advantage and run with a group of people.
Ooops @spl8 ! You'll just have to ignore such talk and move on.
Mom and I had lunch with a church friend today. She made homemade chicken noodle soup. It was really good and I have a huge bowl for later in the week...probably more than a couple of times.
I let the food settle and then went out for my run on the driveway. I was so tempted to run on the treadmill...just because, but Tippy convinced me to come outside and I'm glad I did. It was 63F (17.2C) and cloudy. It felt better than I expected. The plan called for a short easy run with 5 strides. It was supposed to be a shakeout run before a 10K race (which I never scheduled and moved the week's runs around due to tennis Sat.) I probably won't run a 10K tomorrow, but wasn't really in the mood for a run today, so a short one further enticed me to hit the pavement. I have never run "strides" before, so looked it up and think I did it okay. Seemed like it was basically short Fartleks. Anyway, the 5 that I did were all under 10 min/mile pace with the fastest being around 8:40 min/mile. I ran/walked a total of 2.25 miles in 32:13 min for an average pace of 14:49 min/mile (snails pace). I also walked a mile total for warm up and cool down. I didn't post yesterday due to work and church, but did walk two miles on the treadmill.

More rain. 7 treadmill miles. Raised the incline to 6 for the last mile just for some variation. That was pretty hard. Hopefully will be able to get outside on Saturday.

March total: 21.4/100 miles

Ran after it got hot tonight because it was hot. Still about 80F at 7pm. But, once the sun is down you get a decent combo of no sun and lower humidity. Makes it not feel too bad.6 -
No aches or pains, beautiful evening, felt pretty pretty pretty good.

It was misty this morning and even raining at times. It was 50°F and not windy so it didn't feel as chilly as yesterday. I ran 5.25 miles. My weather apps both showed fog but not rain. I wore shorts and a t-shirt with sleeves and gloves. I was pretty comfortable, but if I had realized it was going to be raining I would have worn a cap to keep the rain off my face. I had a man stop and ask me if I wanted a ride. I just said I was fine, thanks. I was not really sure who it was, but felt like it was probably someone who knew who I was. When I got to work one of my co-workers mentioned that her husband offered me a ride this morning. I think they both kind of think I was crazy for running in that weather. But it was really just a light drizzle.
@shanaber I hope your procedure goes smoothly.
I agree with @Teresa502 that the Reese's eggs are the best. I really like that I can get them individually wrapped. I have one almost every day. And when the eggs aren't available I will get the pumpkins, hearts, trees or footballs.
7 -
@kgirlhart hahaha I love it! I actually like rain as long as it isn't torrential, and everyone here thinks I'm crazy :-)
Talking of which, it looks like it might rain for most of our trip at the end of the month. Not sure how to tell my husband he has to walk in the rain for 6 days...4 -
Morning everyone!
Got in a 9K today!
@shanaber - good luck with your toe procedure. Hope it goes okay!
@Teresa502 - good luck with your relay race! Feel sorry for your friend...
Have errands to run later. Will be sure to walk through the chocolate aisle and eye-up all the chocolate Easter eggs 😂3 -

Great job @Scott6255 ! An incline of 6 is pretty steep. I'd probably fall off if I wasn't holding on.
@kgirlhart Haha So funny about your co-workers husband. At least you found out who it was. I have had people stop to see if I needed a ride when I was running in sunny weather. I'm sure people do think we are a little crazy. Mist is actually kind-of fun to run in.
@eleanorhawkins I just wouldn't tell DH about the forecast. The weather people aren't known for accuracy, esp. that far out.
@tarun_yadavA Great run in the cold. As long as you only eye the candy....

First, me too! Love a rainy run. Second, I would also just keep quiet about the forecast. Ignorance is bliss. My husband never checks the weather so as long as he has clothing that works for the conditions, I often don’t mention the bits he won’t like. Like, cold mornings for instance. He’ll live and I don’t want to listen to him complain about the cold for a week when it’s only a couple of hours.
@tarun_yadavA Yep, I am going to Target later and the Easter aisle is already calling my name. I’ll get a Cadbury egg to eat after my run tomorrow. And maybe one for today. I’m glad those are seasonal. I ❤️ them!

Mega humid but slightly cooler this morning. I am off from work this coming week for spring break so heading out to the hill country in a couple of days once we collect our kid from the hospital.
The school has been so understanding. We have been in contact with the guidance counselor and she was adamant that we not gather the school work before spring break. She wants them to relax over the break and already has a plan in place to get them back on track. Once they get caught up she will go back and adjust their grades for the grading period, which ended this week. My kid was really worried about failing math because then they wouldn’t be able to participate in theater. I’m really grateful that they will have a chance to salvage their year and I hope that keeps the stress level down a bit as they head back to school.
I’m really looking forward to being in the hill country. It’s my favorite place and I immediately de-stress when I get there. I could use a little de-stressing.6
