Heather: Your plan for Easter Lunch sounds delicious!

Heather and Karen: I envy how you are both working out. I feel so short time with so many tasks. I did walk 2 miles today on the treadmill at the gym.

Terri: I hope your hospital stay goes okay

Debbie: Praying for Destiny. How is she?

Machka: Sorry your spouse had a melt down. You are doing a great job caring for him, loving him and also holding a job. What you said about high school not having to define a person's future...you gave math as an example.. was inspiring.

Katla: I hope Carmine has several friends. When my spouse passed recently 3 of my friends took me to dinner. We don't regularly stay in touch, but they were there for me in February!

RV Rita: I know it will be awhile before you move...but at least this time will give a chance to decide where you want to go.

Kylia: I hope everything is okay with your heart and that the tachycardia isn't a problem.

Anitanap2: Enjoy your new book! And work on getting strong!

I am still sore from squatting at my new volunteer position on Tues and Wed. To the point where I am taking Tylenol. I walked on the tread mill today but did not do the elliptical in order to rest those muscles. I do sit in the red recliner quite a bit and hope this changes in the future. I might try to add in some gardening next week, so that I move about a little more. Thank you to all that wished me well and had kind things to say about the loss of my husband.

    Best,
    Rosemarie from Georgia

    Rosemarie

You have just lost your husband!

Whatever you choose to do with your time, I wish for you for it to be based on your personal priorities and include self-nurturing activities, whatever those may be for you. And 2 miles on the treadmill is superb in my book. Well done!

Regular exercise is part of my self-nurturing and is high on my personal priority list...but I also must admit that getting my house excavated, emptied, spiffied up, and on the market needs to be a bit higher on my list than it is.

I know this because my house is intermittently chirping quietly in the background of my awareness. That “low battery” chirp is not going to go away, so I am gearing up to rearrange my schedule to get over there more than once a week.

I will be at peace once I rebalance, even though it will necessitate temporarily giving up some self-nurturing activities here at the Old Folks’ Home.

Not the exercise, though. If I don’t exercise, I don’t have energy to do things like work at the old house.

But I can give up jigsaw puzzle time, or TV time, or any number of other low priority activities to work on the house, and I will. Soon. ;)

Karen- That is just not acceptable behavior from the restaurant! I have never heard of such a thing and have worked in several restaurants. Wow! Just Wow! As for Steven, well, I deal with folks like him everyday and just shake my head.

    Hugs!

Machka May this weekend give your batteries a chance to recharge and your body a chance to reset.

No pork for me any more. Ended up in shower last night with 2 Imodium after dinner. Ugh. Just not doing it any more.

    Much love,

Thank you ... thank you to many of you who wished me rest and recouperation. It has been a long and hugely stressful week.

We rarely eat pork or beef anymore, and if we do, it's a very small amount. There's no point eating something we're not that fond of and which doesn't sit all that well.

The picked Carpentry as what he wanted now he hates Carpentry.

Kids their age should try out different things ... try carpentry for a while, if you like it, great, if not, try something else. Drafting? Cooking? Mechanics? Music?

I am looking forward to a good day and a fresh cup of coffee. Breakfast with friends is always nice.

I plan to spend time practicing yoga this morning in my room. I have my yoga mat ready to go and I look forward to stretching exercises. After that, I’ll see what comes next.

Lisa You made me laugh! I am allowed to do that because I too have those days! "Following little animals" and "hazmat cleanups"!!! LOL!!! I realize that it isn't really funny in the moment, but otherwise I would be crying more often. Hugs as this gets sorted out.

Today is no patience day.....mechanics that don't write all the information on an invoice, mechanics that only order half the parts needed, just no patience.

Rosemarie Give yourself grace! You are hurting and healing. We have your back!

At home at moment waiting on furnace person. Will try to do something productive.

    31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life. Like kissing Joe good morning, petting the pooches, inhaling then tasting that first sip of tea.

Inspired by you all I got down on the floor yesterday to do some of my PT stretches. Miracle of miracles, was able to get back up, thanks to the foot forward torque method. Will try again today with the other foot. Forgot to scan body before and after, will try to remember to do that today too ;) Monthly average step count way short but daily creeping back up toward goal. Looking for an easier way to measure “Fuel better.” March average weight one tenth of a pound less than February but happy to end the month four pounds lighter than at beginning.

Lanette hope the Roof Doctor give you some credit for the 30 yr shingles if they have to be replaced sooner ;)
Barbie “…waiting for congratulations from others is a recipe for disappointment.” Truth this. Just like having any kinds expectations for others’ behaviors… ;)
Tracey yours to Annie and  for your MIL having to face such material losses :rage: after losing your FIL. :heartbreak:
Likewise Mary and Heather to Annie, especially “You will have to change the habits of a lifetime from being a dutiful daughter to being their proper carer.”
Whooshing healing and comfort to Terri, Destiny. Comfort and strength to Machka.
Machka hope your weekend is truly restful and restorative.
Karen what an annoying chirp! It takes so much energy to ignore… Could the dining director be under some pressure to cut costs, staff? If not, then perhaps he is no longer a good fit… What Heather said about dealing with people and meetings. :astonished:
Kylia glad to hear Grey Bear’s surgery was successful ;)
Lisa many hugs back atcha. Appreciate your wit, writing and grit. Wish I could woosh the doody days and pain away.

Anne - I think that in the US the cancel the contract window is just 3 days! But you can cancel - do the research and then do a new contract with the same company if it turns out that it wasn't a scam. and you and dad would have the other quotes to help get the best deal you can.

    Hello, my darlin's,

Rain's coming in shortly, but if it follows the predictions, we will see only the northwestern edges of it. That beautiful scent in the dawn air of rain just departed and more coming in is filling the house through the open windows, and at 65 degrees, it's really lovely. Spring at its best, at least for this moment.

Tales of Lisa and Poo... TMI
Had to go back and look, but I was at 145 the last day of February and 141 this morning. Am willing to call that good for maintenance mode. There are days I wonder why I think I have any control at all - my body knows what it wants, and it will be the weight that it wants, and any control I think I have over that is just an illusion.

I say this because yesterday, I was at 144, but it was one of the D-days (D for "doody" B) - Look, you either laugh at this stuff or they find you out in the woods following around behind the little animals.) The D-days are about once a week now. I can only get a few steps from the bathroom and then I'm headed right back. Hours of that are exhausting, at best.

Fortunately, on this side of D-day, I get a few days where I can actually leave the house and do things like get my hair cut, which I hope to do this morning.

I am trying to get the rhythm sorted out, but all the options are the nuclear options - imodium stops me up for days, and any form of laxative, even at a quarter of the dose, pushes me immediately into D-day, but in liquid form. Right now it's awful, but at least it's not exiting at 90 miles an hour and requiring hazmat cleanup protocols.

To add to that, I know, I know, I know that people who really want to help me feel better are going to suggest taking fiber. Fiber, no matter the ingredients, in almost any form, whether it's food, pills, chewables, dissolve in liquid, whatever, adds razor blade edges to D-days. After finding myself curled up on the bathroom tiles more than once, crying, I stopped doing that. Fiber is not the answer for me, but I'm awfully glad for you if it is the answer for you.

So, I'll continue to work on it. I have added a probiotic, but if it has made a difference, I can't tell it. I'm going to finish the bottle and see if there's a change when I stop.

If you braved all that, it my not sound like it, but the new medication really is helping. Some of the brain fog has lifted. Days that aren't like yesterday are really good days. I feel like myself for hours on end.

I do read everything y'all write, but of course I haven't written anything down to reply to anything. My brain fog has a lot to answer for. Sooooo many hugs to those who need them, and cheers for everyone who celebrates their own triumphs. Love y'all more than you know. I spend time every morning with you, and appreciate your presence in my life.

    1. Set an intention to live with awareness and kindness. I intend to live with more awareness and kindness every day.
    2. Notice three things you find beautiful in the outside world. The blue water of Lea Lake, Snow on the mountains at a distance, walking a nature trail. All at Bottomless Lakes State Park.
    3. Start today by appreciating your body and that you are alive. I am healthy and above ground. I can walk, talk, hear, see, taste, and smell (mostly). I appreciate that I alive and have a healthy body.
    4. Notice how you speak to yourself and choose to use kind words. I will try…
    5. Bring to mind people you care about and send love to them. I sent texts to my long distance friends to send them love.
    6. Have a ‘no plans’ day and notice how that feels. Most days are like that for me. So much less stress!
    7. Take three calm breaths at regular intervals during your day. Sounds like a plan.
    8. Eat mindfully. Appreciate the taste, texture and smell of your food. Started at breakfast.
    9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. I will need to keep this in the front of my mind all day.
    10. Get outside and notice how the weather feels on your face. Every day!
    11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee. In the process of doing that right now!
    12. Listen deeply to someone and really hear what they are saying. I will have to really try to get this done today.
    13. Pause to watch the sky or clouds for a few minutes today. I love doing this!
    14. Find ways to enjoy any chores or tasks that you do. I made a necessary task to go for a liver scan enjoyable by buying lunch for myself for a change.
    15. Stop. Breathe. Notice. Repeat regularly. I really need to do this today! Didn’t remember to do this.
    16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity. I have stones to paint. Will be distributing along the trails in exchange for free peddle boat and paddle board rentals. Didn’t do this. Too windy out. I colored instead.
    17. Look around and spot three thing you find unusual or pleasant. Will do. 1. Lady wanting us to cut a lock off of her propane tank. 2. The rock formations around the park. 3. The lake surface when wind blows over it.
    18. If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down. I will consciously try to do this. I completed this!

    55. 26. Choose to spend less times looking at screens today. I will! I had 58% less screen time this week than last week. Working on this!
    56. 27. Cultivate a feeling of loving-kindness towards others today. I’ve been working on this in my meditations.
    57. 28. Notice when you are tired and take a break as soon as possible. I will try.
    58. 29. Choose a different route today and see what you notice. If I have the chance will do this. Probably with a walk. Did take a different route for my walk. Different scenery to look at (but not my favorite)
    59. 30. Mentally scan your body and notice what you are feeling. Will do this during meditation today.
    60. 31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life.

Now I don’t have a yoga class any more but I practice the yoga positions and movements I learned in my class in Oregon right here in my home. I bought a new yoga mat and strap that help me stretch and move more. I feel better day by day.

Thanks for the post-nasal drip suggestions!

I am hesitant to use garlic pills on a regular basis. We were on a trip once and a guy in our group took them (supposedly to repel mosquitos) and he stunk.

I have been tested for allergies, and I have many. However, I've been taking an allergy pill and steroid nasal spray daily, for years, and they don't stop the dripping. I'd like to be off the steroid solution. I've been trying Musicnex and it helps a bit, but I don't think it's a long-term solution.

    I will try Astepro.

A dental surgeon was diving with us on my trip earlier this month. He said there are procedures that can open the nasal passage non-surgically that can be done by a dental surgeon. His mentor actually has a practice very close to my house, which is coincidental since our fellow traveler was actually from Australia.

I don't know if I will try the dental procedure, but I think it's worth looking into. He guessed I had allergies, post-nasal drip, and congestion based SOLELY on the fact that I told him I am a bad sleeper.

The very negative of living where I live is year-round allergies!

Tina, I had an issue with this too. I went to an ENT and he ended up doing a nasal ablation (sp?) which stopped the nightly post nasal drip. Perhaps look into that for help. Nothing else I did worked except a decongestant nightly which is not good for my blood pressure.

Annie Tina is right. If you report it to the police immediately, they will help with the situation. Does your father have any type of dementia? My mother-in-law started showing signs of dementia, and we found out that she was being scammed by telephone order operators. As well as by mail. She was literally giving her money away. She handled her own check book, and we had no idea. We had to have a hard talk with her! We also took her checkbook away. Even people that she considered her friends were getting money from her and giving her sob stories. She even gave one of her credit cards to one of the ladies. Even if the guy is legitimate is your roof leaking? Did your dad call him? or did he just drop by and convinced your dad that he needed it replaced. Sorry I am harping on this a little. I was just so disgusted with the people that took advantage of my mother-in-law. It can even run deeper than that. My own sister committed credit card fraud not once, but twice on our mother. You talking to your dad is only protecting your mom and dad! He may be really angry like my mom was! I called social services and reported my sister. They sent out the police to talk with my mom and sister. She had to repay the credit card companies. But it had to be done! Sometimes it’s better to get social services involved. That’s what I had to do. I know one of the ladies mentioned elder abuse. They do have elder abuse hotline’s.

Well I weighed myself again and now instead of up half a pound, I'm down seven tenths. Crazy scale. You all are right.
