Karen - Full marks for standing back and letting your spouse (and dogs) almost save themselves. What a great rehearsal! I hope the management continues to schedule such drills so the dogs (and spouse) get used to the noise and throng.
On our cruises, before we leave port, there always has to be a fire drill where we have to go to our muster stations. There is a special procedure for disabled people. On the June cruise, when there was a very late embarkation, we had to do it at midnight! We were clambering down the metal spiral crew stairs.
I had a bad night last night. Could not sleep. Too much Agatha Christie I think. Of course, my ruminating turned to negative thoughts about my writing, (what's the point of it all, yabber, yabber) but I did get a doze eventually, and with the dawn, the excessive darkness has vanished. Old insecurities and family scripts surface when you are feeling tired and vulnerable. Come to think of it, that's what I'm writing about at the moment!
Still haven't got my Advance Decision witnessed. Haven't seen the next-door neighbour around, or in her garden. Must get that organised, photocopied, and off to the surgery for scanning and filling. My sons will have copies and the original will go in with the wills. I will mention it again to DH, but not make a 'thing' of it. I will send off for a card for my wallet.
Love to all. Glad to be here to see the sun rise this morning.
Thoughts are with Kim.
Welcome new people! I hope you will stick around.

Kim, thinking of you and your mom.
Katla, very happy that you were able to get your screen name back with Pip's help!
Pip, so happy that you were able to help Katla!
Allie, do you ever take Miles out for a walk? I think you would both enjoy it! Him in a stroller or some equivalent ofcourse, sure don't want him getting away on you! It's amazing how fast those little legs can move! lol When my grands decide they want to go somewhere, I sometimes have a really tough time keeping up with them and they are only 3 and 6! (Very soon 4 and 7, where does the time go??)
Tracey, good for you for applying for the position in the other LTC! Thinking good thoughts for you!
Karen, sounds like the fire drill went well, good job!
Debbie, I hope your hubby will be able to deal with his mother better now that he won't be working so much. She truly is a piece of work!
So many more comments I wanted to make, but this is what happens when you just read and don't make notes or anything.....
Feb was not a good month for me, goal wise. I fell off the wagon in a HUGE way (go big or go home...), but am trying hard to clamber back on. I was trying to figure out why I was in such a funk for most of Feb and then realized that it was the anniversary of my mom's passing on the 15th. So many things made sense after that!
It's getting late, I must get to bed, I do NOT make good food choices when I'm tired and I have to get up early tomorrow as I have our granddaughter all day. She's a sweetie, but she can be a lot of work! And then of course I pick up her brother after school and sometimes the two of them try to kill each other, at least that's what it sounds like is happening! lol They love each other, but if one of them is tired..... more bad choices. Oh well. It will all work out in the end.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Debbie-that is good about husband. It was huge for him. Most all of us make change small steps at a time. Not too long ago he went on a walk with you didn't he? Even if he decided it wasn't for him he tried and didn't just reject-small steps!Hopefully with less fatigue he can cope better.
Karen-good job with fire drill. It brought back a memory for me. When kids were little and both of us were working housework could get behind. One thing my husband would insist upon was that walkways to doors were clear every night before bed. Sometimes it would mean we would just kick toys to the side and out of the way-but there were no trip hazards out of the bed to the doors.
Tracey-sounds like you are getting bad to your routine.
Heather-not surprising those things came through in your sleeping difficulty. They say sleep is where we work out problems.
Lisa-you are correct-the counseling sessions aren't fun. I have come to the conclusion that this one today is a classic Peter Principle case. The person is not without skills and can work at a first line supervision level, but they don't demonstrate ability to see big picture and think five or six steps down the line (which is what they need to do for current position and future advancement). It is interesting that some people are good at hiding this lack for a while-but it does always come through. Of course I always get stuck examining my own behavior in depth!
A bit of headache this am and joints are achy-matches the rain forecast for the day! Luckily it looks to be a 24 event-but lots of flood watches. Kids in Phoenix called last night and said it had snowed in Tucson last two days and rain in Phoenix. The front is just rolling across the country. Since weather isn't helping-off to do stretches for sure. Will most likely have to walk indoors. May do some treadmill and bike to get minutes in today. Since working from home this am-may throw laundry in wash to get a head start on weekend.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio6 -
My old friend and I managed to get a phone call together this morning! She wanted a video call, but I wasn't up to it. It was lovely to hear her voice and talk about what we are doing now. We've swapped addresses, and current photos of us and our partners, and hope to meet up in London in May.
I always find it a bit awkward talking about the grandchildren with someone who doesn't have any children. I tend to make less of it.
I think I last saw her in person around 17 or 18 years ago.
We asked DDIL if Edie could come over for a painting session at the weekend. She jumped at Sunday morning! She also sent this photo of the progress of the building work at their house. I must say the kitchen extension looks absolutely HUGE!
Did nearly 300 words before I called my old friend. DH is writing the blurb to his new book. All good.

Yeah, I worked in the oilfield from 2008 to 2010 = and they were horrible about promoting wonderful field lease operators who were incapable of making themselves into a supervisor or manager. The company gave no traIning, and it was very much sink or swim. And being that very macho culture, no matter how bad it got, those promoted just couldn't get themselves to say, "I can't do this, I want to go back."
Heather, Good on you for getting some words done. I've been up since 3, pretty much, and haven't written a blessed thing.
Annie, I keep forgetting to say "Well done!" for your weight loss! 😎 Proud of you for looking at what's happening with your body and modifying your routine as necessary. You are so good at that. Pleased and proud of you, dear heart. You've fought for every pound.
Debbie, no advice just many hugs. My ex-mother-in-law, I would have happily given to Goodwill. She operated at the top of her lungs, which I despise, and even more unhappily, wanted me to call her "Mom." My ex-husband expressed this to me, and I told him that I came pre-installed with a mother who I loved beyond reason. I was never going to call her that. Really frosted her flakes.
And speaking of frosted, a chill woke me up about an hour ago, and would NOT subside until I curled up under a heated blanket. I despise shivering, it always leaves me with a headache from clenching my teeth.
And... the rain came in, will stick around most of the morning, and possibly longer At 48° and 97% humidity, you might as well put my feet and hands and all joints in a deep freeze. Tired, achy and cranky.
Love y'all,

Hello Sandy good luck with your knee! A few of us have knee issues. I'm working on mine with exercises and I just ordered a small stationary bike. Hopefully it will get stronger and the stairs will get easier.
Debbie I'm so glad your DH is improving. Better sleep is good for the whole household.
Karen good job on the fire drill!
Machka glad you are enjoying time off. Great success with the honey!
It's going to be a long day of taxes. My dad is missing so many papers, and most of the relevant websites have his email wrong. He can't log into his pension website at all. It's a mess.
Weigh-in is later today, when I have access to the scale. I'm not expecting much because I'm thinking muscle growth. Lisa I remember you saying to track inches, but I never found a place to keep the record. Lousy excuse, isn't it?

Annie MFP has a spot on the progress tab to record measurements. Just tap tab that says weight and it opens different options.

Kim - thinking of you. Hope your mother's surgery was successful and that she has a rapid recovery. No scare stories, I know you've heard them all, and not one single one matters. What matters is how badly your mom wants to heal and get back to her life. You are loved...

Kim ... so, so sorry to hear your mom has fallen and praying that her surgery was successful. Long road ahead for both of you. Hugs.
For the first time in over a decade, my husband and I will be receiving a fairly large tax refund. We think we are going to use it to build a raised bed garden. Because we have so much wildlife walking around in the back property (and a misbehaved dog), we need to enclose anything we build with wire fencing. I also want the garden to be pretty as well as functional. More of a hobby garden really. If we hope to have anything this summer, we need to get moving on it though.
More winter weather forecasted so my plans this weekend are to do some more major decluttering in the basement (decluttering is really too tame of a word for what I'm doing) and cleaning out the kitchen refrigerator and freezer. I find that when I feel like I have control over my living spaces, my health goals follow suit and become more manageable as well. "Stuff" just zaps my mental energy.
Beth near Buffalo5 -
Beth - Corey wants to do the raised bed garden, this year, too. Considering that he has never described what HE considers to be a raised bed garden, I'm going to wait this out. We often have completely different visions in mind for such things (not saying one's wrong, we just think differently about things like this.)
Totally agree with "stuff" being an energy suck. The less cluttered a space, the better my mind works.
Love,

Oh gosh, YES! Lisa! I am often dumbfounded at how differently we imagine things. I think we have exactly the same thing in mind and are using the same words, and it turns out to be completely different! I do have to bite my tongue, or he gets upset. I once wrote a short story about a husband and wife getting divorced over a mango.
One thing we always disagree over is whether something is blue or green.
Had a nice long nap this afternoon. Feeling human again. I did 25 minutes rowing first.

Ha! My ex and I argued for DECADES about whether things were blue or purple. With my current and final husband, I let it get to one, "no it's, not... " and then depart the conversation.2 -

For some reason the DVD I was planning to do (Kristen Dowell) wouldn’t play in my DVD player so I did one by Michelle Dozois. The plan for tomorrow is to Non Stop Strength Cardio Sculpt DVD
After exercise stopped at Brevard Charities where I got some shorts then the SPCA thrift store where I found a pair of pants in the color I want. Hope they are OK. Then stopped at Upscale Retail but didn’t see anything. Now home. Got dinner ready to microwave. We need to go to WalMart so hopefully we can do that later and I can go in the pool.
Debbie – at one time I bought the prune puree, too. But I can’t find it anywhere. The only alternative is prune puree baby food, and that’s hard to come by just prune. It’s usually something like prunes and apples. So I wonder if I made my own puree would that work????
sista – try having lots of snacks (of good things, of course). Like cheese cubes, popcorn, even pretzels. Maybe that will stave off your hunger so you don’t overeat at night. I know that’s my downfall so for Lent I’ve given up eating after dinner. So far, so good. I tried that for a few years and I always failed. So we shall see how it works this time. Can you try having a bowl of fruit out so that you grab that first?
Pip – you are an angel for helping katla
Sandy – welcome.
Karen – great job with the fire drill

One note about raised bed gardens: remember to plan the paths in between. You might want to make them wide enough for the lawnmower.

Happy birthday Rita!
Ginny I too really enjoyed my work and the local people I worked with. What tipped the retirement scales for me was plans for wholly new industry specific software including email and ultimately operating systems. Never regretted my choice, especially after the merger with another company the next year. Good luck!
Debbie those were two very BIG deals. Sure hope your DH’s fewer hours let him rest and get a better perspective all around.
Rebecca when you figure out how to let go that need for family approval, please share with me. Haven’t been able to flip the switch so that my (and Joe’s) approval are all I need. Yours on food prep. Truth this.
Annie when I first read “went up to five pounds” I skipped over the word “to” and thought uh oh, poor Annie gained five despite all her hard work. Was I ever glad to be mistaken. Well done!
Katla hope you can feel the floods of happiness and relief whooshing to you from us all!
Michele I agree about the scripted “reality” shows. The competitive cooking shows like “Worst Cooks” and “Holiday Baking Championships” hook me in but afterwards I always feel cheated, so much more “television” than cooking/teaching.
@sista67 Susan pre-logging is a great idea. “failing to plan is planning to fail” It helps me is to keep something wholesome to chew when I “want to eat” like measured amounts of raw almonds, vegs, fruit. Many times I eat because I really want to chomp something or someone into bits…
Tracey look forward to the pic of your latest creation.
@nanerkay Sandy from KY praying also for PT not surgery for your hurt knee. Skipping meals can play heck with blood sugar. Good luck, you can do this!
Karen, yours to Debbiie. Wise words. What a warm and compelling invitation. Sorry, but wouldn’t want to leave Joe and the dogs for long enough to get there, much less appear in public in my swimsuit  What a successful evacuation drill. Hope the facility has spare rollators in strategically located storage structures outside.
What Heather and Evie said about fatigue, old mental scripts and choices.
Heather got a belated birthday call from an old friend/roomie/coworker at 7:30 this morning. Debated answering as I was on the toilet, but thankfully I was done and it wasn’t a video call. warm memories and grateful thoughts. I am so much happier and content than I would have been, had he reciprocated my feelings Johnny and Joe must be brothers from another mother. He still refers to his old aqua blue truck as green. SMH
Beth the idea of your enclosed raised beds. Spring come soon!
Lisa has Corey recovered already?
Barbie your raised beds. Wish we had more sun, but unwilling to lose any trees to get it.

Barbie - where did you get those nice frames? Are they wood or plastic?
Every time I think I'm not going to do much of a garden, I get the bug again. I watched a video yesterday on reusing the potting soil in containers. I've been doing that anyhow, this video showed different additions - compost, etc. a person can add.

Ginny - what will you do when you retire? Do you have a bucket list? I admit, I still miss some parts of work - some of the neat tasks I performed and some of the people. If I could have designed my "retirement" I would have kept working 2 days a week. It was so nice to feel needed and a part of a team I respected, and that I was making a contribution.
Managing the dog doesn't always cut it, lol. Especially when I realize SHE is the manager and I'm her subordinate!
Heather - is the new kitchen going to come all the way out to where the kids are standing? If so, that is huge! Barbie could hold dance classes and all of us would fit, lol.
I saw on Bob & Brad this morning it's good for us to walk sideways in our house now and then, keeps our hip muscles strong.

If some of you remember, my DH had a colonoscopy about two weeks ago and has been feeling very off. We went to the ER yesterday and when we were finally seen 4 hrs later, they said his red blood cells were very low. Now they are thinking that he has internal bleeding going on. Will be doing several test today and tomorrow to try and diagnose the source. Prayers would be appreciated.
