@katharmonic Woohoo on half the drains coming out. That's a big step forward. My old Garmin 45s is not charging, so it may be time to get a new watch. What do y'all use/recommend?
Good suggestion from @chris_in_cal about checking the cord and charging port for buildup. I have had to clean that out too. I currently have a garmin vivoactive 4S. It's a few years old and still works well enough that I can't justify a new one, even though I kind of want one! Overall I like it. It does what I need it to. I like that it has some smartwatch features so I can use the same watch all day. It is GPS enabled, which is 1 feature I would absolutely require on any future purchase. I don't even know if you can buy a sports watch anymore that doesn't have that feature, but it was a game changer for me. It has music capability but I can't speak to how well it works since I've never used it. And it's a bit smaller than some of the other Garmins, which kind of overwhelmed my wrist.2 -
Got in a slow 6.2 miles this morning. It started off very warm, but by the end it had dropped over 10F just in the hour I was out. Cold front coming through
You reaped the benefits of being slightly farther north. We aren't getting that front until this afternoon. At noon it will be cooler than it was at 6 am and tomorrow morning, it will downright pleasant though probably raining. Can't wait!3 -
@spl8 I had a polar watch a few years ago. It wasn’t that expensive, but I wanted to go Garmin after the watch refused to charge (even after cleaning). I do prefer Garmin connect to the Polar software.
After that I bought a Venu. I liked it ok, but was bothered by the fact that it seemed to me more of a smart watch than a running watch. I mean, it did what it was supposed to do and all, but I was upset the whole time that I hadn’t bought a forerunner.
So after several years, and extensive research I decided in December to splurge for the Garmin fenix 7 saphire solar s (normal size seemed gigantic on my wrist). I have been really happy with it despite the cost. It basically does everything, but sometimes I have to watch a YouTube video or 2, to figure out how to adjust the settings to my liking.
I don’t believe you can really go “wrong” with any of the watches that are out there. It just depends how much you want to spend and what exactly you want your watch to be able to do.2 -
Sorry yesterday was a tough day for you @eleanorhawkins . I hope you are feeling better today and ready to kill that marathon!
Sounds like a great run @martaindale . Glad nothing hurt.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great run. And you're right, it is the pythons. I'm glad I never saw one of those either.
Sounds like a very active day for you too @Laurz9191 . Glad everyone enjoyed the hike. I hope your back is okay today.
You did great @kgirlhart . I'd count it too. Excellent paces. Love that mile 6 was so speedy.
@katharmonic . Glad your appointment went well and Stella is feeling better. Sorry about your car repair. My light is still on and off, and I don't have time to take it in and leave it, so will probably wait until next week to see what is wrong. I hope your repairs aren't too costly. I was thinking it might be time for a new vehicle too. I hope your BF does well and gets to come home today. Hugs to you with all you have going on.

April Goal: 110 Miles
4/2: 11.03 miles
4/4: 6.02 miles
4/5: 5.25 miles
22.3/110 miles completed for April
I ran 5.25 miles today. It was much cooler this morning than yesterday morning and the temperature dropped as I ran. It was a little windy, but all in all a pretty nice run and the moon was very pretty.

I went on a nice run this morning on the “love bench trail“. It was really beautiful, and involved lots of climbing. I almost had the feeling I was cross training, because I am not used to steep uphills. There were some really beautiful views and lots of little lakes along the way. I ran 10.4km.
Yesterday, the kids requested that we didn’t go on a long hike, so we took a steam train to a nearby town and walked around there. That was also very nice.
So far for April I have 32.8/175km.8 -
Morning everyone from Sunny Florida
Got in a 9K6 -
honestly I liked Marie Calender NY style cheese cake the best and you could buy a whole cake for the cost of a SMALL slice at the Cheese Cake Factory. I think their prices are way over inflated for the size they sell. ANyway, my brother likes the graham cracker crusts the best I believe. LOL.
Nice running everyone and happy to hear 2 drains are out K.
Scott I have had those heart racing moments before on my runs and usually they are dog or car related. I tend to run a little faster after wards.
The weather today and tomorrow is miserable for running. 40's and steady hard rain. We need it but I really don't want to run in it.
Quilter sorry about the car but WOW you have been absolutely killing getting your workouts in! well done this year with all you have going on.
April is of to a pretty decent start and 2 days off won't kill me and I might find a window to run in anyway. I decided to work remotely as the worker who sits across from me went home sick MOnday and came back to work today coughing a lung out. No thank you. Even masking spending hours across from that was no bueno. So I took myself home.

@Laurz9191 The view from the love bench is beautiful!
@tarun_yadavA That cheesecake looks decadent. I have a serious sweet tooth but I'm not sure I could manage more than a few bites of that before I was sugared out.0 -
April total: 18.2/115 miles
4/1: 6 miles
4/3: 4 miles
4/5: 5.1 miles
4/6: 3.1 miles
It was misting and cool this morning when I went out. So much more pleasant than yesterday! The rain has officially started here and will continue most of the day. I am headed to the hill country after work today so hoping I can catch a little break and not be driving in pouring rain the entire time!5 -

@SummerSkier you're right! Cheesecake factory is expensive! Notice that every couple of years I'm in the States...
Luckily the whole dining strategy is based around dessert, so go easy on apps and Mains, and if hungry up till dessert, eat that brown bread mini baguette thing.
@martaindale hmmm 🤔
Other than a 'Can I try it?' bite, wouldn't be too happy splitting one with my wife... She'd have to get her own (she did).
I'd rather eat 1 1/3, than 2/3!! 🤣😂6 -

I ran 5.5 miles today. It was cold today at 43°F. It is hard to believe that it was 73° on Tuesday. I had to get my sleeves and gloves back out. It was a good run, uneventful, but nice.

Fewer bugs tonight at the lake. Feeling good.

Morning! Squeezed in a 5K6

Hahaha @tarun_yadavA . That cheesecake looks yummy! Glad you enjoyed it, guilt free. You are doing great getting in some running plus all the walking at the theme parks.
@Laurz9191 You did great on your run and being active with your kids, even if it wasn't a "long hike." The pictures are beautiful. I know you probably told us where you were going, but I have forgotten. I know it isn't, but the pictures remind me of E. TN.
Thanks @SummerSkier . You are doing great and a couple of days off won't hurt. You made a good choice to go home, since that was an option. Why would the person come back to work when they were still coughing so badly? I hope you don't get sick.
I hope your drive was uneventful @martaindale . Sometimes the rain seems to make drivers lose their minds.
You're doing great @chris_in_cal . You'll be ready for that 5K and kill it.
Looks like I'm caught up. Absent again yesterday because I got home late and the internet was spotty. I just didn't have the patience to deal with it after spending time with 13 hyped up 5 year old's during a full moon.

Hope everyone is having a good Friday 😁
Was off today so got in a longish 11 mile lunch run.
43.3 miles in 5 days was pretty tough, but now I get to have 2 days off 😊 Going to Austin tomorrow for Easter celebration with the family. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Great running @Scott6255 ! Enjoy your Easter weekend with family!
I didn't post yesterday, but I got up early and went out for a 2 mile wun on the driveway. I was supposed to play tennis last night, but it was cancelled due to one of the ladies having a hurt foot and we couldn't find a replacement on short notice.
Today, I did a short run on the treadmill - rainy and cool outside and I'm just not feeling the best for some reason. I didn't want to push it. I walked a total of 1.25 miles for warm up and cool down and ran 1.25 miles - no walking. I ran a ladder from 4.2 - 5.0 mph for 2 min at each level. Avg pace was 13:12 min/mile. Avg HR was 135 and max was 148 bpm. I hope to feel better and get in a longish run tomorrow.

4/1: 6 miles
4/3: 4 miles
4/5: 5.1 miles
4/6: 3.1 miles
4/8: 8 miles
It was really nice today after being cold and rainy yesterday. I couldn’t make myself get out the door yesterday. I ended up spending the day watching TV and baking cookies. It was glorious.
The run today was nice. Sometimes when I’m out here I have to talk myself into running but once I get on the road, I’m glad I did it. I think it’s because this house feels like being on vacation. I like to have a leisurely morning out here and then my schedule is kind of thrown off. I need to remind myself that I have yet to regret going for a run. I’ll get out again tomorrow. Should be another nice day.8 -
Thanks for the challenge! Joining late indeed but better be late than never... Restarting the running again after a long hiatus.
Baby steps in April, goal is 30 km in April.7 -

Congratulations @Mari33a . So glad everyone is doing great!
You are doing great @AlphaHowls . I love reading your little explanations of the day.
Great running @martaindale . I've always heard, from the running community, that the only run you regret is the one you didn't do.
Welcome @mustb60 . It's great that you are getting back into running. You'll find this group very supportive.
@spl8 I hope your knee is getting better every day and the wun is fun on Monday.
I had some obligations this morning and by the time I was done, I was worn out. I think not sleeping well most of the week caught up with me. So, when I got home, I chose to take a nap instead of running right away. Once I gave in and wrapped up in a blanket, I must have gone to sleep pretty quickly, because the next thing I knew it was 5 pm.
I did get up and go down for a treadmill run. Since I was getting a late start, I just did another short run instead of the long one I had hoped to get in today. I think I'm just going to call this past week a fail as far as the plan goes and regroup on Monday. Today, I walked on mile total for warm up and cool down and the run was a wun of 2 x (3/2 min at 5.0/3.8 mph), 5/1/3:13 min at 5.0/3.8/5.0 mph. That was 1.5 mile in 19:13 min for an average pace of 12:49 min/mile. Avg HR was 135 with a max of 154 bpm.

Happy Easter Everyone!
(I am waving at Scott here in my town of Austin too)
It's been a rough couple of days here - rainy, cold, you name it and I am craving some warm and sunshine which is silly because come Sept I will be impatiently waiting for it to rain and be cold again
I tried out some Hoka's again yesterday and put them thru their paces with a 7 miler. I had used them a couple years back and loved the first pair but after that I really did not like how I felt I was sinking into them like a too soft mattress. These were nice yesterday tho. I seem to have that problem a lot. I will try a new and upcoming brand like my first pair of Mizuna I was in love with but after that nothing seemed to live up to that first pair. sigh. Sometimes I go to Academy and just pull a bunch of shoes my size off the rack and try them on - not looking at price tag. It's amazing the variety of fit and comfort and cushion there is.

Happy Sunday.
It's sunny out but still chilly here. It's supposed to keep climbing up this week and end up maybe even 80 degrees by next weekend. Which sounds good compared to the cold and wind we've had the last few days.
Anyway, I'm not tracking super carefully but I know that I have walked every day at least once. Thursday I had 3 walks I think, between friends and Stella wanting to get out. Friday was miserably chilly but Stella and I took a loop around the neighborhood. Yesterday was a bit better and the sun was out so Stella and I had a good walk up on this part of the state park by my house that is called informally "the Serengeti" because it's a big open plain type area. You have to go uphill somewhere to get there and some of those trails are harder than others. We took one of the easier ones and I wanted to go up there to get maximum sunshine and not be in the trees. It was very nice.
This morning I hiked! We'll call it my first post-surgery hike, but it was a walk uphill and back down. About a mile and 800 feet elevation to the top where it's a pretty nice view (people hang glide from that point allegedly but I've never seen that). I used to train there and my trainer and friends are going every week, although they usually go up and down multiple times and run it or hike with weighted vests. I just walked it once and felt pretty good about it. There is also a waterfall nearby so as they were repeating the hill I wandered over and took a look at the falls for another 1/2 mile or so (flat). Then of course I got home and had to walk Stella as well (of note on that walk I saw a couple taking pictures of their cat in a stroller parked in front of a heastone in the cemetery - interesting). I'm ready for a nap now after all that.
I'm feeling good about recovery and looking forward to building up to some real hiking. But this was plenty for now. My knees reminded me that I haven't done this in a while.
Hope you all have a lovely day. Happy easter to those who celebrate or just enjoy chocolate eggs and bunnies!9 -
