Lisa yes, I remember “Soap” and will check out “Why Women Kill.” You sound like you’re feeling a little better, are you?
Barbara AHMOD - Edit to add here: So pleased that your remedies have finally got things moving! Thank you for asking if I'm feeling better. There are still good days and bad--I'm engrossed in learning as much as I can while I'm researching as much as I can handle of the results of the CT scan and what it means for the future. Then I scare the heck out of myself, and try to get my mind turned to other things so I can quit grinding away at research. I am feeling better physically, and was out in the yard for almost two hours yesterday weeding the flower beds, just hoping I wasn't pulling up the flowers. I see it as Darwinism in action, you know. If you are a flower, but you are indistinguishable from a weed, you may not survive.
Observations on television as distraction with a side trip into comedy styles:The reason I love series like Season 1 of "Why Women Kill" is because they absorb my attention completely, which is a relief in and of itself. They engage my whole brain, and not much does these days. No spoilers, but the stories it tells begin and end with that season, no cliff hanger to the second season, which I appreciated enormously.
Unfortunately, I watched the first half of the first episode of Season 2, and it's a very different setup and story construction. I don't know why, but I just can't make myself like what I call "awkward comedy," where an earnest, well-meaning, sympathetic character humiliates themselves for the audiences' laugh. I don't think it's funny, and never really did--wasn't fond of most of Jerry Lewis's comedy, but loved the ensemble cast of Carol Burnett's show, for instance. Much of current comedy revolves around awkward constructions, and I often don't even last five minutes.
Tracey - Lots of hugs and hopes for your daughter's egg retrieval and eventual IVF. It's such a stressful time.
Karen - I'm so pleased that your spouse is literally making strides in her recovery. Hope she is a candidate for the ultrasound tremor ablation. Had to go look that up! You sound so happy with the friends you've made there and the activities you're enjoying. I'm so glad it was a good move for the two of you.
Just in the high 30s here, but should be in the 70s this afternoon. I do love cool spring mornings, and plan to enjoy them while they're still here...The back of my calves feel quite stiff this morning from bending over weeding yesterday.
For those who are new, Barbie will create a new thread for us this evening to start us all out once more in May. She will post a link to the new thread here. Hope to continue to see you there!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Good Morning!
Not sure where the energy came from this morning. Caught up with all of you while in hot tub. Listened to podcasts while walked for 25 minutes and decluttered a bunch of papers sitting on my desk, shredded, filed, and dealt with. Emptied dishwasher, wiped down, and mopped kitchen. Now to do paperwork for work, ugh.
Out to dinner last night. Had one drink. Lots of leg cramps. Ouch. Not sure if alcohol, or food. Had lots of water.
Healing thoughts for medical issues!
Cheers for activities!
Thankful for all of you!

April 2023 Action for Happiness
Word of the year: Appreciate : today I appreciate the well behaved Boy Scouts (40 of them) that camped here this weekend.
Thank you all for the kind words. Walking and meditating, plus meds keep me from a full blown panic attack so that helps. Talking it out here also reminds me you all have my back. Thank you so much for that. I’ve been doing a LOT of walking lately including walking meditations and sitting meditations. So much so that now I feel like I’m spending too much time on me. But, I know it helps and I need it.
Thank you all once again! You all are the best!

ACTIVE APRIL
1.
Commit to being more active this month starting today. I commit to this by adding the exercises from the 6 minute book for over 60’s.
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Easy! LOL
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. I do this during walking meditations every day.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yogurt and raspberries for breakfast with 17 oz water bottle and coffee, more to come.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Not sure. Joked with hairdresser while getting hair cut. Everyone was laughing and joining in.
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. I do this often in my meditations.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening. Morning done. Will do in evening.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh. I will as soon as I can! Did this with friends.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise. Hmmmm tbd
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement. I’ll try.
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge. Already have goals: Yoga 10 mins 3 times a week, Walk 7,000 every day, 6 min HIIT -2x a day, Arm weights twice a week
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside. I will do. Vet this morning then normal day, so will be able to do this.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time. Easy Peasy!
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation. I will meditate and try to find time for yoga too. I did all I wanted to do.
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing). I can’t sing but will sing along with music anyway. Sang “When the ants go marching in” during my walk.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things. OOOH, this sounds like fun.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds. I will tend my container garden. I have watered it but need to remove dead leaves from tomato plants.
18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class. Not sure if I will have time today. Did not have time today.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often. After the last 2 days, this is a welcome change!
20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today. I did that on Tuesday but will try again today.
21. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day. Ahhhhh. But forgot to do it.
22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it. Going to try to remember to do this. Forgot.
23. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor. I do this every day in my hosting.
24. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting. Will do! I love doing this.
25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself. Did this![
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes. Already did this today, first thing in the morning.
27. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.) HMMM. Will have to think about when to do this.
28. Meet a friend outside for a walk and a chat. Not sure about the walk, way too windy, but I will chat outside with a friend.
30. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today. Already went for a walk.

Good morning ladies!
First things first... a friendly reminder
Unfortunately our weather on May 1 is cloudy with a high of 60.
Barbara- hope something works to get things moving. You mentioned coffee... the memory of coffee and a cigarette before breakfast came to mind. Glad you have a good list of helpful foods and OTC meds. EDIT - glad to see you are having success!!
Rita - I am so glad you have a counselor to help you right now. You have a lot of things going on in your life that you don't have the power to change. As you said, the all at once part is so hard to deal with. Sending many, many hugs.
So very sorry about Brownie's failing health. Keep walking and going outside, as others have suggested.
Beth - regarding those invasive onions - have you tried contacting the Master Gardeners at your county Extension Service? They might have some ideas too. I have invasive "cheat grass" and other little pesty weeds that are taking over my barked beds and driveway gravel. I'm so done with Roundup and the cumulative effects of that stuff. I got some high powered vinegar/acetic acid at Wally World a few weeks ago and I'm anxious to give it a try.
Carol - the chickies aren't free ranging, they are currently in a small coop with teeny attached run. As they get older they'll need a larger fenced area to roam around in, Roger will help. He came over yesterday with the improved metal ridgecap and finished fastening the corrugated poly roofing material which we hope will help this coop last for years. I'll attach a few photos. He put a fancy extension on the ridgecap, it was stunning.
After we finished up with the coop, we went into DH's workshop part and starting looking at his tool and machine/doo-dad collection (under loads of dust!). It finally became evident to me that Roger and DH spent a lot of time (for guys) together working on things as Roger pointed out this and that tool and told about how DH helped him with various projects.
And Roger said during DH's final year, DH would sit on his little bench by the shop and wave to him while he was mowing and he missed that. It hit me that Roger was mourning him too. Why wouldn't he? I'm so glad he shared that with me.
They were friends... as friendly as guys can be with each other.
The sun will soon be up and I'll open the coop door the chickies.
I just checked on Kitty in the shop. She's 17, and quite ill. She's been off her feed the past week - actually the past month or so, but not losing weight so it might be kidneys not working and fluid build up. She's been meowing and wanting loves - she's normally pretty stand-offish. Yesterday it was hard for her to walk, she hid outside. I finally found her before sunset and put her in the shop and she went straight to her bed.
She hasn't eaten anything this morning even though I gave her scrambled egg, cottage cheese, pieces of cooked chicken. I'll try to get some hairball meds down here today, that might be part of the problem.
She was DH's buddy. They would sit on his little bench and he'd pet her. He'd lay on the sofa and watch TV with Sophie and Rosie piled on his chest and and Kitty would perch on the back of it and nap. When they were little, she and Sophie were pals. My favorite photo of those two as youngsters:
As you may remember, Sophie passed in February last year.

Barbara AHMOD-11 days??????!!!! I can't even imagine. Congrats on getting that taken care of!
Back to work-just stopping in during my break for early lunch.
Ginny in Ohio2 -
Heather - I will look at some info about dealing with narcissists. Great idea.
Ginny - when my previous supervisor left and tried to get EI, she was told she was denied because she hadn’t spoken to her doctor or documented anything. I’m learning from her.
I need to start walking again, I’m also thinking of starting swimming again.
Karen - walking without her scooter is a huge improvement. I hope she continues to improve.
I feel so angry that I’m being forced to leave a job that besides her is perfect. We have a great team except for her.
Unfortunately, she has all of the power in the whole facility so I can’t just move departments to get away from her. I was hoping she would retire soon, she turned 64 yesterday but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Lanette - 😂 we all need a Jack in our lives. Mine is named Rodger.
I think I’ll find something too. I saw one last night that I’m going to apply for today. It’s payroll for an airline. Might be good, cheap flights!
We had chickens growing up, I also remember a pig and some work horses. I didn’t like the chickens at all!
Margaret- I love the Art in Bloom. Thank you for sharing.
Carol - yes she does need to leave, but doesn’t seem like she will anytime soon.
I wouldn’t have been a good carer if chickens either.
Lisa - I’m sorry you had a terrible boss too. It sure is difficult to deal with.
😂 is the Biker gang comment sort of like “Look, cows”?
I also enjoyed “Why women kill”. I think I don’t think I finished the 2nd season though. I didn’t enjoy the storyline as much.
Just saw your comment about comedy. My favourite comedy right now is called Ghosts. I do watch The Conner’s and Young Sheldon. I like to have a few comedies in the PVR for something short and light to watch before bed. I struggle to find many I like though.
Rita - hugs to you. I hope your son gets the help he needs and you get it as well.
Barbara - Maybe there something is to the old adage, “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away”.
I see the doctor on Thursday.
Heather - Jonah will be 12 in September, the years go just too fast.
Do your teachers strike just on a rolling basis? Not daily? When ours strike they just continue day to day until it’s solved.
Machka - I hope you can figure out what has set up home in your beautiful garden and evict them.
Kelly - I hope DH isn’t in pain for long. Men are weird. I don’t get it either.
Our youngest daughter’s BF contacted me yesterday to tell me she was making a basket for “egg retrieval “ day and asked if we would like to go in on it.
I sent her some money. She sent me pictures of the basket and a card last night. I’ll post pics in the spoiler. Quite the sense of humour this one.
These friends have such a great relationship.
I am going to pick up their dog this afternoon. They won’t have to worry about getting a hotel room that allows pets and won’t have to worry if they are delayed for any reason getting home.

Machka ... I think the weed mat is a good idea for the flower bed areas. The stone areas will be more difficult as the stones are sitting in packed clay on top of an abandoned septic system. I don't have the strength to tackle that.
Lanette ... good advice about calling my county extension office. And that's some spiffy chicken coop!
Beth1 -
Tracey - You are such an amazing mother and grandmother... I hope I learn to be a better one from you and Heather and Karen and all the rest who have grown children. Kelsey calls me every day or every other day now that she's in Hawaii. She calls after she picks the kids up from school or daycare, late afternoon my time, so I get to hear all their voices. I just keep trying not to think about how long it will be before I see them all again.6
-
Lanette - Very smart accommodation! I could almost want chickens so I could have one of those! I might move in myself.
Tracey - Oh gosh! Exciting times. Personally, I would find all that a lot of pressure, but friends usually know each other.
All our strikes seem to be rolling and there are loads of them at the moment. Teachers, nurses, doctors, transport, ambulance etc etc. The cost of living has rocketed. Especially food.
DH went off for his 6th covid jab this afternoon! I may not get mine before the cruise.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
Tracey — You are a wonderful friend. Taking care of your friend’s pup while they are traveling is generous and kind. They are lucky that you are their friend.

Lanette ~ Love the chicken coop and pens. They look so professional. And, your chicks are getting big.
Tracey ~ Best of luck to your daughter. Her friend's gift basket is lovely.
Carol in GA2 -
Did Gilad’s Express Workout’s DVD and started to take my walk but it started drizzling so I came home and did a Leslie Sansone DVD.
M – I love my roomba so much that we got one for downstairs, too. What did you name yours? The one upstairs is Buzz (as in Buzz Lightyear) and the one downstairs is Hubble (as in the microscope)
Ania – welcome!
Made soup, really need to clean the kitchen floor, then maybe go for another walk, then work on the jigsaw puzzle some more
Barbara – relief isn’t spelled R-O-L-A-I-D-S, huh? I’m so happy for you
Tracey – oh, I like Ghosts and Young Sheldon, too (and the Connors). I thought it was especially funny (YS) when Mandy and Georgie were discussing names for the baby and she suggested “Alice” and he said “yea, Alice Cooper, that sounds good”.
Going to divide up the soup and then go for a walk.

Of course ... plus they're cute.
Can you spot the bee butt among my Nasturtiums?
They just do things differently from honey bees.
One of the things they do differently is that they'll move their nests each year. So if you've got a nest under your shed this year, like we did, next year it will likely be somewhere else.

Update from Destiny's mom:
We were told that her pet scan doesn’t show any new spots in her bones. However, she does has a few new spots in her lungs. We need to get her back on chemo asap. And do more radiation. We will be starting chemo this coming week and hopefully do radiation soon as well.. we have an option to give her radium 227. ( which they use for prostate cancer that has gone to the bones) With her chemo, but we have to see how fast her counts recover while doing the chemo. We will probably be moving her care from UCSF to Stanford do to the fact that we need a team that is willing to fight for her. We then will be looking for other hospital to move her to . Maybe md anderson in Texas, Saint Jude’s or the children hospital in Arkansas( because that is where we will be moving eventually) ..
we do need prayers for a miracle and the medication to work to stop this horrible disease..10 -

Good evening ladies!
I think I fixed my laptop! Yay! We shall see if it stays fixed. The old trackball was just too old. When Windows 11 updated, Logitech didn't update the trackball driver I needed. So I got a new trackball. Note - a trackball is a different kind of computer mouse.
On the other hand, my sniffles have turned into a full head cold. Drat. I made it through lunch today with my cousin, and that was excellent. She likes to hear about my parents. The restaurant we picked for brunch had a live blues band, surprise!
Hope you all had a great day, my friends!
