4. Send a friend a photo of a time you enjoyed together. Look for one with C, make happy hour date?
Welcome back @momzilla11 in Portland. Well done for keeping on track and increasing walking despite all the bumps in this year’s road.
Lisa “probably would have bonked him…” and “pull him up by his lapels” made me laugh out loud. You and your writings are treasures. Glad you stopped when your energy did. The rest of the vetch will be there tomorrow or whenever.
Evelyn needles near my eyes have been a phobia since childhood. The bratty son of my parent’s bridge playing friends stole my TinyTears doll and threatened to give her a “shot in the eye.”
Debbie prayers continue and intensify for Destiny Hope.
Sue in WA “…don’t like the side effects, but do like to breathe.” There it is.
Rori, was going to suggest the Royal Highlander overnight train from Inverness to London and thence to Brighton, but alas, it withdrawn in 1988. Took it from Brighton through London to Inverness in the late seventies and it’s a fond memory. The scenery, the private little roomette, the cute porter… ah!
Tracey I’m sad and angry about your work situation. No one should be made so miserable as to cry for an hour at work. Can not understand why they’d want to get rid of you, you were the one to persist through the he!! Of the new accounting/payroll system. Maybe someone is embarrassed by all the flaws in it that you found? Hooray for massage and pain relief!05/03: Move: 2 sets PT w/x&a, line dance class, Jeopardy walking. steps:8392 so far.

Tracey, our son is in Manitoba, but just barely! He's about 20 min from the MB/SK border. I worked for a housecleaning company for a few years, they supplied polo type shirts and fleece jackets. When a person left, the company would hold the last paycheque "hostage" until you returned all your logo'd clothing! No chance anybody would ever rob anything while wearing one, but no company wants someone wearing their advertising and being a jacka$$. I'm so sorry about your situation, Barbara is right, nobody should be so stressed they are crying while at work. {{{HUGS}}}
Debbie, my heart goes out to Destiny and her family, there is just so much that is wrong with that whole scenario.
And just like that it's bedtime already!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

I had a busy couple of days and got very exhausted. I went out of town to a funeral and stayed in a hotel. Good to be home! I attended a church luncheon which was very nice. It is 4:34 am right now. I intend to sleep 3 more hours and then treat myself to Starbucks and pick up my food and then go to a church group by zoom. I plan to stay in the rest of the day and rest! I need to water my new Dogwood tree!

Kylia-good definition for OHIO-I have never heard that either. Thankfully the sun did come out a bit late yesterday.
After tromping around damaged building yesterday in the cold, sneezing this am and full sinuses. Don't know if allergies, a cold or maybe just reaction to the insulation that is laying about the building (fell from the ceilings). Good news is structural engineer thinks is salvageable. Only one load bearing wall compromised. Helps that is was a brick building built in mid 70s.
Other excitement yesterday was state computer system was down until about 3:30 yesterday so we closed (staff couldn't work either in office or at home). Something happened in Columbus to it. That's the problem with everything electronic. I'm not sure we have any staff who remember the days of hand computing stuff for our clients! Hopefully all worked out for today.
Hope everyone has a day with only the excitement you want! No injuries or illnesses today please. Prayers for Destiny and others.

Just come off the phone to Saga about my injury. Insurance works in mysterious ways, and one is to find every which way not to pay up. I had to tell them in case I got taken ill on board and they could refuse to pay because of my wrist. It's like trying to hold water. They are going to ring me back when the underwriters have had a look.
DH is feeling a bit under the weather. Didn't sleep last night with anxiety. Tummy upset. Stiff back. And last week's dizzy spell threw him. I think my injury has been a shock for him. Anyway, he has gone off to the cricket and I hope that pulls him out of his funk. He is supersensitive to anything to do with his loved ones, especially me.
I've paid off my credit card and reorganised some savings. Funds are temporarily low, but hey ho!
Now to put some face on for the hairdresser!

Machka sorry to hear about your kidney disease. Is there a particular diet that helps? Or just drinking lots of water?

I need to lower my BP and cholesterol somehow!!
Both my BP and cholesterol are "high normal".
My BP sits about 145/85 ... nowhere near high enough for medication, but high enough that exercise and diet changes are recommended.
My cholesterol is 6.0 ... again, nowhere near high enough for medication, but high nough that exercise and diet changes are recommended.
The recommendations are the following ... but I'm already pretty much there.
1. Do regular physical activity
2. Maintain a healthy weight
3. Follow a healthy diet high in fruit, veg, and grains
4. Use less salt
5. Quit smoking and limit your alcohol intake
https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/how-to-lower-blood-pressure
The DASH diet is supposed to be good, apparently. Or the Mediterranean diet. But that's more or less how I eat now. My current diet is heavy on the fruit, veg, and grains and I've cut back on the salt.
DASH Diet for Heart Health -- Lowering Blood Pressure and Cholesterol
https://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/ss/slideshow-dash-diet
I would like to be more active, but I just don't have the energy.
I am working on losing weight.
My diet is pretty good and I've taken steps to cut back on things.
I have never smoked and don't drink.
As for water ... I already drink a lot of water because I've got kidney stones and have had since at least 2009. The water eases the pain of the stones.OregonMother wrote: »Machka, I had a kidney scare a few months ago, but the nephrologist decided it was a combination of COVID, Paxlovid, UTI, and antibiotic all in about two weeks. My kidney function plummeted, but it has rebounded to it's normal slightly compromised level, so everyone has calmed down. The nephrologist still wants to see me every six months to monitor, so I just add that to my bevy of medical appointments. I don't have any risk factors for ckd, so his advice was to drink lots and lots of water. Because of cancer and the meds I'm on, he did not recommend cutting back on protein. What is your kidney function score? GFR? Mine hovers between 48 and 56, depending on how hydrated I am. During the scare, it fell suddenly to 35.!

We discovered my first kidney stone in 2009 when it got lodged and I had to have it surgically removed.
Later in 2009, when I was hospital with DVT, we discovered that my kidney-related blood numbers were slightly low and they've been very gradually dropping since. But my eGFR isn't as low as yours!! It should be >89 but mine currently lands between 75 and 83.
Now my urine numbers are also slightly high.
And possibly most significantly, the ultrasound I had last June (it has taken that long for me to get in to see a specialist because my previous doctor wasn't particularly competent) shows "mild renal cortical thinning bilaterally (both kidneys) in keeping with chronic kidney disease".
Yesterday the specialist looked at one thing and said it wasn't anything to be concerned about, turned the page and looked at the second thing, and said it might possibly be really, really early hints of CKD, then looked at the third thing and told me that yes, the evidence indicates an early stage of CKD.
But if I do the exercise and diet stuff above, it shouldn't progress quickly.

Machka I’m always interested in the different “standard of care” between the US and Oz. e.g. dilation. Seems you once mentioned that someone’s stated BP was normal but here was considered “pre-hypertension.” All of these “pre-“ diagnoses (pre-hypertension, pre-diabetes” are making me wonder about how the standards are set. By studies financed by big pharm? Getting cynical in my old age. As for the high blood pressure, dailyish dark, dark, dark leafy greens with some citrus is the best I can find online. Gonna ramp up on my arugula/romaine/mandarin salads You are doing everything you can to manage the stress of your husband’s accident and subsequent impact on your lives. Whooshing supportive energy your way.

From my experience, it appears that the doctors here prefer to encourage me to be physically active and eat something along the lines of the Mediterranean diet rather than putting me on medication.
I LOVE mandarins. Fortunately they are coming into season again just now.

Good morning ladies!
Machka sorry to hear about your kidney issues.
The roofers are here, and they have tarps over the windows. Teddy barked a lot for half an hour but he seems settled now. A little clingy, but quiet. I'm a little concerned that they haven't told us what to do to leave the house. Or maybe they told Dad and he didn't hear. I have a telehealth zoom in a bit, and then I leave for horse after three. My nerves are going to be shot all day anyway from the noise. I may hide in the basement. That would be better than eating.
Annie in Delaware2 -
Machka- yes he was barking at 2 am dont know what he heard...and he will run to the sliding glass doors and start barking.. so I have to get up and go get him and calm him down.
Poor Tracy.... she is getting frazzled.. not getting enough sleep Miles is getting into everything and not sleeping great...Carmine is being her nasty hormonal self and takes it out on her.So Miles when I show up is all over me ,and hugging and kissing me,and he doesn't give his mom the kisses which makes her feel worse.4 -

Annie- glad you are feeling better and the roofers are busy. Will the solar panels be reinstalled?
Got a quote on the gutters - it was good so they'll start today, and I'm getting the leaf guard on the west side of the house where the huge maple tree sheds. It's quite a run and I think it added $400 to the bill, which isn't bad. They are installing new gutters on both the house and the shop and doing a few other things like plugging a few holes in the soffit where the birds knocked out the screen. Total $$ just under 4K.
Heather - so glad you went to the doctor and had your wrist X-rayed.
I had surgery on my right wrist/thumb for tendonitis about a decade ago, similar to Carpal Tunnel. No cast involved, just a warning to not lift anything, don't get it wet, wear the brace with velcro fasters for a few weeks. Being right handed, there were challenges in the bathroom, lol. Yours isn't an open wound like mine was so you should heal quickly and just fine.
Was on the go and outside a lot the past couple days, so have just been skimming. Hope to play catchup today - the rains are back so no outside work. Gutter guys will be putting Rosie on high alert so will give her a CBD treat in a couple hours.
Cat is still alive, eating and making deposits in the litter box so she's not to her 9th life just yet.

Yes Lanette the solar panels go back up first thing tomorrow. The solar power is supplemental to the town power grid. Unfortunately when the town power is down, it all goes off.

Hi Gals,
I am excited to report a good week here….
About a week ago I hit my breaking point with my mom and told her she had to be more thankful for all that was being done for her and all that was going right, for about 30 minutes I rattled off all that was good, all she had to be thankful for and told her how fed up I was with only hearing thank you 3 times in 26 days (who’s counting -LOL) She sputtered about and did some denial, but has straightened up and I am hearing thank you and I appreciate …… I truly think at first it was an act to shut me up but I did not care it made me feel better, and now that she has done it for 6 + days it is beginning to sound more sincere. WIN!
Some of you will remember that during the height of the pandemic I took in a young man I worked with (the ending of his job ended his housing, as housing was a perk of the job) we lived together for 9 months and both really enjoyed it, we did a lot of cooking together and I also got to know his girlfriend.
They moved in together in 2021. They are getting married September 30. Well this Monday they took me out to dinner, I thought just to get me out of the house and away from Mom as they know how hard this is. But it turns out that they wanted me to officiate at their wedding. I have never done this and in fact have never even thought of who does this or how someone was picked…. Just never crossed my mind. I was/am so honored and of course have said yes, so now it is figuring out the ins and outs of the rules, what to wear, what to say…. But so nice to have something positive to think about!
Smiles,
Kim in N. California

Tracey, dear heart - Truly, as said already, no one should be crying for an hour at work just to survive their day. My heart just aches for you. We all want to come up with a solution for you, because every one of us knows that feeling of despair in a situation where we feel helpless to change what's happening. What does Rodger say about all this? Are you able to get time with a therapist perhaps to be able to spill some of this out in a safe place? I'm so glad the massage is really helping your pain.
Heather - Take care of that wrist and don't overdo, woman!
Kim - Woot! Way to go on bowing up to your mom's behavior and helping her correct it! Congratulations, too, on being asked to officiate at your dear friends' wedding. What a lovely request to get from people you care about.
Should have looked at the weather earlier - looks like the storm is going to get here any minute, and I need to go batten down a couple hatches...
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

I have gained weight! I removed my weekly weigh in chart from the bathroom wall, because when I started it 2 years ago I was 249. Now I am 250. So in the scheme of things I have only gained a lb. I got down to 229 in "my heyday" but its back up. I am trying to give myself grace about it all. I have a lot on my plate, pun intended!😜. I am doing ok, just didn't need that darn piece of paper staring at me.
-stop buying carbs ie; chips and cookies
-drink more water, less coffee
-stop buying creamer for my coffee

My daughter has plans for me today. I have mixed feelings about the day. I was up very late last night waiting for DH to return from his doctor’s appointment. He was tired from the long time he was there. He was also doing okay.

Kim how wonderful that your mom is “seeing the light”! You certainly deserve her appreciation for all that you are doing for her! Also congrats on being asked to officiate the young couples wedding, such an honour.

Not much planned for today. I do have my granddaughter, but she seems to be wanting a quiet day too. I think I’ll just do as much crocheting as she’ll let me! lol
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

DH on his way home. Dinner is cooked. I've eaten mine. He will have to hang up the laundry. Can't do it with one hand! He also has to go out to vote. He will be knackered.
Painted a very simple anniversary card today. One handed. Not quite what I envisaged, but better than nothing. I've told him I won't be able to wrap his presents!
