It's been a sucky, stressful few weeks. It's nice to see everyone here keeping on keeping on. I love reading posts here for inspiration and positive vibes.
That's like the Webster dictionary definition of community, sorry to hear about the past few, and I am happy to know when my few weeks show up, you'll be here to help me get through.

It's as if this week's weather looked at last week's weather and said "hold my beer!" Like @Scott6255 mentioned above it was already into the low 80's with a feels like of 90F when I set out at 5:45 am.That was the absolute coolest it will be all day. We have highs of 100+ predicted all week. 😭
I also found a single sprinkler toward the end of my run. I used to see sprinklers quite a bit more frequently during my early runs. I think the POA has changed up the watering schedule and most of the ones I used to be able to hit have already finished by the time I get there. Maybe I can file a petition to get them to move one or two of the sections back into the 5:45 to 6:15 window. I'm sure they will rework the entire neighborhood's watering schedule for me.6 -
@AlphaHowls So sorry to hear you are going through that! It’s truly heartbreaking!
@Scott6255 Glad to hear you are feeling better!
@martaindale I am always inspired by the ways you motivate yourself through horribly difficult weather. Although I have no sprinklers, I’ve been thinking a lot about the best way to utilise the river I always run next to.
@Teresa502 I hope you are enjoying your trip. Good job getting a run in too.
@kgirlhart Great job with the HM in that heat. It sounds like you timed it perfectly.
@chris_in_cal I am always sooo much more motivated in the morning. My motivation just goes downhill after lunchtime and I can’t make myself get out the door. Also, I’m also usually pretty exhausted this time of year from being exposed to heat all the time. It’s hard to escape it without a/c.
A benefit of running later would be not having to go to work right after a run. This time of year I can’t physically hide the fact that I just went on a run and have a red face .
I got a nice early 10.3km in this morning. It felt easy after my run in the midday heat on Saturday. I did funk my hat into the stream on the way out, but on the way back there was a nice little breeze that cooled me off just enough.
Next Wednesday my son and the kid of a friend of ours are running a race through the old downtown area (I am running too, but a longer race). I told them that we could train a few times before the race, so we went out this evening for a little run. They both lost their running spirit after about 2km (their race will be 1.9km), so we walked a bit, then ran the final stretch back. It was fun! I love running with my son and hope that he wants to run with me more often the older he gets.
So today I ran a total of 13.1km today bringing my June total to 103.3/150km.7 -

I've been better at doing my runs than I have been about posting. I think I'll be able to squeak this one out, but just barely.
I want to start working on speed a little more. I've been running at a 5 on the treadmill (12 min/mile), I would like to get to around 10 minute miles, while running 3-4 miles. I think I'm going to work on that in July.8 -

I'm right behind you. In Sept. I'm targeting a 12:04/mile pace in a super hilly 10k. After that, onto the speed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning everyone!
Today's 6K
@Laurz9191 I thought itd be nice to run with mine someday... But blink of an eye... It went from me 'come on, you can go faster' 'were nearly done now' etc TO him being much faster than me now. He's an obnoxious teenager too 😂. I get a lot of 'that it old man?' and 'big guy' type comments (we see each others' Strava).
The nice scenic 10K run along the Thames in the City where we're the same pace just never happened. It went from Empire Strikes Back ending to Return of the Jedi ending so quickly! Lol
(Not really a sci FI nerd but thought I'd throw that analogy in there!)6 -

Right there with you, just without the hills. Currently running 12 minute miles and, with time, looking to get to sub 10.

Now I see why you don’t like to slow down! Kid competition.
@Laurz9191 I’m still holding out hope that mine will regain interest in running. There was a brief window a couple of years ago where they were into it. I ran with them as they trained up for a 10k, they did it, and were so proud of themself. But, the interest waned. One day maybe.5 -

Another hot one this morning. I think I have found the 1 house that runs their sprinklers at a good time for my morning runs. There is this little alcove that I don't usually run through but I can see from the main road. This morning I saw their sprinklers running, so I made a little detour and turned sloooow circles in their sprinklers for 15-20 seconds. It felt amazing. They have cameras so they may be watching me cool off in their sprinklers and I hope they find it amusing. Most of my usual routes don't really go through the neighborhoods. They are more along the main roads, which are faced by people's back fences. This little alcove is probably going to become a mainstay for the next few months.6 -
@martaindale wow, I remember when they did that race, seems like yesterday. Where has the time gone??? Also, really glad you found the sprinkler, hope they keep it running for you. We're getting to the point here where the only thing keeping me from carrying on a couple of miles down to the beach after my runs and just going straight into the sea is not wanting to ruin my shoes. (I'm a wimp about the sea, won't get in there without something on my feet).
I'm crazy busy and behind as usual, reading, liking and hugging where appropriate, but everyone's doing great!
I've done a pretty good job of sticking to the plan this month with only a couple of minor adjustments, and have run more km that I expected to. Like I'll end up at around 170km whereas last month (when admittedly I was recovering from the marathon) I ended up with just under 110km. Doing a lot of strength, stability and mobility work too and praying that jump doesn't cause me problems.
I'll be starting July off with a bang with a race at 10pm (yeah, not looking forward to that part but it's too hot for daytime races now). It's only 14km or so with just one hill but the official cutoff time is 90 min. I'm highly unlikely to manage that, I've run the route a couple of times and always done it in around 1hr45min.7 -

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. I did run 6 miles. It was hot again, but not too bad at 5:30 am. I was tired after running 13.1 on Sunday, but I will be out of town tomorrow so I needed to run Monday instead of Wednesday. I had to work to keep my pace under 12 minutes, but it was a good run. I almost had negative splits, but I slowed down a bit on mile 5 and blew it. 🙃
Today I ran 6 miles again. I felt really good and almost had negative splits again. Mile 6 was 3 seconds slower than mile 5. I am still pleased with the run. Plus I got to run through a sprinkler and it really helped. It seems like people aren't watering or not at the times when I come by.
Today is my mom's 79th birthday. My sisters and I are taking her to stay at a historic B&B that she has always wanted to go to, so no run for me tomorrow and there will be birthday cake tonight.

Happy birthday mama @kgirlhart 🎈🎂 🎉1

Nice running @kgirlhart. Hope your mom has a lovely birthday at the B&B.
Stella and I went for a walk after work today. I was hoping to beat the rain (and my Accuweather forecast said we had at least 60 minutes) but no luck. Of course it started raining when we were at the farthest point from home on our usual route, so we had to walk the whole way back in the rain. It was not terribly hard but we both looked like drowned rats when we got back. But not long after that it really started thundering and then let loose a torrential downpour.
I am going to start back at the gym next week - even if that means just lower body and core work, and maybe some light cardio that is not bouncy like some light spinning and aqua running/kickboarding. I'm going to try to do some more stretching to prepare for that, as last time I went back to the gym for the first time I was really sore. Looking forward to this!
And even more exciting - over the weekend I booked a trip to Germany for September! I will be going for a conference in Cologne (Köln)! I wish I could spend more time traveling around but I will have some excursions and a little free time as part of the meeting. I was just looking at running routes in the city If anyone has been and has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Fantastic...I'll bet that's a nice time of year too. I've never been...send some pics.
1 -
@katharmonic I was just in Cologne last month . My son had a soccer tournament there. I didn’t go running though. The one thing you definitely should see is the Cologne Cathedral, and, if you do drink beer, they have a very unique kind called Kölsch which is served in small glasses. You should try it. September could be nice weather-wise. It could also be cold, dark, and grey. Really it’s a roll of the dice…
I was pressed for time yesterday, but was able to get in a 7.1km run. It has cooled down here significantly and was perfect running weather. It was nice to have a day off from the heat.
Things are only going to be busier for me these next 3 days. Fingers crossed that I can squeeze even a couple of km in here and there before the month is over!
So far 110.5/150 km for June.6 -
Morning all

My Garmin died and I forgot my charging cord so I’ve been using Strava to record my runs for the past couple of days. Yesterday I ran 5.05 miles in Lisbon. The hotel we were at was near the hospital and university area so no scenery of note. I did find one small park to loop through. We had a private tour to Evora and Monsarez which went through beautiful wine country and groves of olive trees.
Today I ran 7.33 miles. When I’m running in a foreign place I hate to map out a run. I prefer to just take off in a general direction and explore as I go. This morning I could see a park on a hill not too far away but I ended up taking a very indirect route and already had 4 miles by the time I got to the entrance.9 -
@shanaber please check in!!!
1 -
@Teresa502 I love to run to explore in a new place too. Looks lovely there. Hope you are having a great time.
Thanks for the tips on Cologne @Laurz9191 and @Teresa502! I will definitely be going to the cathedral, that's on the schedule of excursions including a performance by the girls' choir. And an optional brewery tour after which I will be opting for! I have tried some Kolsch in the past and liked it. I didn't realize that was a Cologne-specific beer. Can't wait to do some sampling. We will also be doing a Rhine river cruise and visit Dragon's Castle, and there is a dinner in a "whine" cellar. I assume that's a typo in my conference materials, but if not, a bunch of researchers whining together, what could be more fun?? . Running along the river looks like a great option.
It's only going to be in the 60s here today but muggy. There was rain in the forecast all day but looks like that may be spotty if any, so hopefully I'll get out there for a nice long walk. The trails are going to be super muddy after all the rain last night so might need to stick to the streets.8 -
@katharmonic You are doing great with your recovery. Glad you were able to catch up with your friends. I hope the weather cools some for you. I'm glad you and Stella made it home before the rain got harder. The trip to Germany is exciting. I think we could all use a "whine" cellar every once in a while.
@Mari33a You are doing great. You have plenty of time to make your goal. We all get down on ourselves sometimes, I think. At least I know I do. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
@Scott6255 I think if I were you, I might have ran laps and went through that sprinkler multiple times.
@martaindale Hahaha I'm sure they would be willing to move the watering schedule around for you. Be careful in that heat.
@Laurz9191 You are doing great. It's good to see that your son is running with you. How old is he?
@Zaxa2021 Great running and great goal. I am wanting to run faster too, but not sure how much faster my old body can go. I'm torn between distance and speed and am sure I can't do both very successfully.
@martaindale I hope the sprinkler owners find it amusing too. I would.
You are doing great @eleanorhawkins ! Good luck with your upcoming race.
@kgirlhart Great running. Happy belated birthday to your mom. I hope you all enjoyed the stay at the B&B.
You are doing great with your comeback @tarun_yadavA . I hope you are able to run everyday without aggravating your knee.
@Teresa502 I love that you are running so much while on vacation. That looks like a great place to exercise. The "tree stretching" is hilarious. Love it. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I started feeling a bit weak so considered just walking. I think it was the heat, which is nothing compared to you TX folks: 82F (27.8C) and the smoke from Canada once again. It was very hazy sunshine today. Once I got started, I tried running and it wasn't too bad. I did a warm up walk, then 5 x (run/walk for 0.3/0.15 miles), and then a cool down walk. Total walking was 1.50 miles. Total run was also 1.50 miles. My runs averaged 12:21 min/mile. For the entire 3 miles, my avg HR was 135 with a max of 155 bpm. My running split paces were pretty consistent: 12:30, 12:23, 12:23, 12:03, and 12:27 min/mile. Not bad considering I was taking it easy today.5 -
5 TM miles after work. Targeting a morning run tomorrow to close out the month. Good riddance June! 🥵

I am on a "sleep" challenge with some friends. I'm trying to go to bed at 10:00 p.m., ten nights in a row. I didn't make it the first two nights (10:30 & 10:15) but I'm getting there.
More running and some more sleep...that seems like a good combo for me right now.

Good morning everyone!
Today's 6KFour in a row. Will go for five and six! 🤞7 -
That's great @chris_in_cal . I'm still working on getting a good night's sleep too. I know it's important.
Great run @tarun_yadavA . I hope the faster pace didn't hurt your leg. It sounds like getting lost in your thoughts just let your body do what it wanted to without any interference from your brain.2 -

@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊 ... Yes. Something like that!
Still applying heat and icing... New orthotic insoles tomorrow 🤞
So hopefully not a million miles off from being back to normal5
