It was another hot and humid morning. I ran 6 miles today. I didn't see any skunks today, but I did see lots of kittens. I also ran face first into another spider web.

Came home last night and did 2.3 TM miles so I could get to 100 miles by mid month 😁
Had to pick my brother up from the airport this morning, so did a short 5 TM miles.

Way to adjust your run @Laurz9191 . Great run, even if a bit of a struggle.
@katharmonic I'm sorry the recovery is going to be longer than you had expected. I'm sure it is hard to be patient when you feel ok. Hang in there. Those five weeks will be in your rearview mirror in no time. I'm really glad everything is healing well
Nice run @kgirlhart . Sounds like you need to invent a spider web guard for runners.
Great running @Scott6255

@polskagirl01 Agree, the smore looks very nice. That is one massive yard pile too! That looks like a ton of work!
Last night I saw a hedgehog in our yard! It was getting dark, and at first I thought one of the kids left a guinea pig outside or something. So cute! 🦔
Gardening was my workout for the day. I was crashing yesterday and Thursday, so am not pushing it today. We're heading to some community event and there will be walking involved.chris_in_cal wrote: »polskagirl01 wrote: »Hmm, I don't know... @polskagirl01 An Eastern European smile can look an awful lot like a Westerners' grimace, right?written with respect, love, and humor
It's a stereotype that easterners don't smile much.7 -
@polskagirl01 your garden is looking good 😊
10.2 miles this morning. Another hot, humid, no breeze long run...but it actually felt better than last week. Possibly because of the salt tab chews, but more likely had to do with running with my best friend ❤️ (my brother)

I'm very proud of the 5 mile runs, I love seeing the progress I've been making.
That’s awesome! You’re doing great. It is such a great feeling to see progress.SummerSkier wrote: »Next up - VO2 max thoughts. So mine has been dropping a little bit since I injured my lower back/ hip/ whatever in late April. My May mileage was down and then I got a cold in June so my running has been limited. At first I thought the VO2 max was dropping because I was injured or ill but as I recover from both setbacks it seems like it was dropping because I was losing conditioning. 😏 And I am totally NOT impressed by how fast that has happened - in less than 2 months I went from 40.5 to 38.5 on my watch.
I try to take VO2 max from my watch with a grain of salt. It’s not really VO2 max after all. It’s a formula that uses your HR at a given pace and creates more of an estimate/correlate to VO2 max. I love seeing that number tick up a point or two during fall and winter training but also try not to take it too hard when it drops during the summer. Garmin’s formula doesn’t take weather conditions into account so I see a 3-4 point drop from peak training during cold temps to struggle runs with the worst of the summer conditions. All that to say, the watch VO2 max does give an estimate of fitness but it’s not the end all be all. Don’t let it get you down. Fitness comes back and that number will bump up as you go.
@felicityb2026 Here’s hoping your hip feels better. What makes it dodgy? Old injury?
4 -
@tarun_yadavA I’m happy to hear you may have gotten to the root of your injury. I hope that means a lasting fix.
@Scott6255 I had the same feeling with the salt tabs, feeling better at the end. Such a game changer.
@SummerSkier I’ve never tried one outside of a run. When I have taken them I am sweating so much that I taste the citrus flavor and not really any salty.
@polskagirl01 That s’more looks soooo good! And your garden looks nice. You did a lot of work on that pile!1 -

We are experiencing the first big heat wave of the summer and are currently under an excessive heat warning with several days of 100+ temps forecasted this week. When I got up it was already 82F and 87% humidity. After a week of cooler temps, I just couldn’t bring myself to slog through an outdoor run. I found an ifit run in Slovenia that went along a beautiful river. Ended up a little shorter than I intended but it was about what I had in me after a lot of walking this week and a travel day yesterday. My legs were fatigued for sure. It took 10-15 minutes to loosen up, but they felt pretty good by the end.
Today is laundry and packing day. Tomorrow we drive the kid to camp. They will be there 2 weeks and are looking forward to it a lot. This is the 5th year they have gone to this camp. It’s a nice break from electronics, social media, and the daily drama for them as well as a break for the parents!8 -

I hope there is treasure buried under the mats at the bottom of your mysterious big pile.
Gardening is great, I hope it works out.

@martaindale thank you so much! yoga and strength exercises are helping 🤞🏼 yeah, it's a sporting injury from repetitive stop and twisting, it's a tear in the cartlidge which brings on flares of arthritis 🤕4

Welcome, it's great having you.

I'm new here and this thread has really helped me stay on track, and keep motivated. Good luck, see you around.

Hello everyone!
Still "ellipticalling".
Planning a run or two before month is out...
Anyways, Happy Father's Day! (Only 3 guys here anyway! Lol).
Me+boys going to the cricket; weather is nice; will enjoy 2-3 beers in the sun (and may treat myself to Chicken Tenders from the concession stands to soak it up!). Got a single divorced dad coming round mine in the evening (hasn't seen his kid much - bitter divorce/kid small), so will end up drinking with him!
Have a nice Sunday all. 😊9 -
Happy Father’s Day to the dads!4

Another treadmill run this morning before breakfast and last minute packing. We are making the camp drop-off after lunch so we have the scramble for all the little things that couldn’t be packed ahead of time.
It was another miserably hot morning. I may try to run outside tomorrow morning. I have a short run scheduled and I will be out before sunrise so should be ok. Hot but not miserable.4 -
@martaindale you are SO right about the heat and humidity and the watch being just strange... LOL. thank you. that is encouraging. I am really struggling to get my butt back in gear altho I have over 700 for the year. the col on the far right is my intentional walking which I am trying to get in esp on days when I don't run. My lower back/hip is still not 100% but I have found that a single excedrin migraine completely makes the pain go away for about 12 hrs so improvement.
Happy Dad's day to the Dad's here!!!! 🌟🌟🌟

Today's run makes me question my sanity. Two days pushing through yard work, even though I do it on all days off, some days are just harder when 'cleaning' up. I woke up with back muscles screaming at me and right rib/muscle sore. Probably intercostal muscle *sighs*
I have cleared 308 miles for June, still on track to reach 500.
Found two cats sleeping in the dead end. My mom would kill me if I brought them home, so I left them there.
Found this old guy hanging out, abandonment can suck!

It was "Time Trial" day in my Garmin Coach training plan. Two mile warmup, a one mile time trial, then cool down. My race goal is to run an October 10K in 1:15:00. That's about a 12:05/mile pace.
So I was hoping my time trial mile would be at least 12:05. I surprised myself a bit with an 11:21. There is still four months until the 10K, so fingers crossed things are on track.

haha @AlphaHowls you shoulda brought dem 2 home with you!2
-
@polskagirl01 That sounds like a lot of work. I hope the squash appreciate it and reward you with lots of good eating later in the year.
@Scott6255 I'm sure yesterday's run was easier because you were running with your brother. It's always seems easier with a friend.
@martaindale I wouldn't want to run in that heat either. We are actually cooler than normal here - first time in many years that we haven't hit 90F yet. Probably won't next week either as it's supposed to rain most of the week. You're doing great and I hope your kid enjoys camp this year.
Welcome to the group @Destinyallday !
@tarun_yadavA I'm sure that you and your kids enjoyed your day and sorry about your friend's situation. It sounds tough.
Happy Fathers Day to all the father's here.
Glad your back/hip is doing a lot better @SummerSkier !
@AlphaHowls You're running is awesome. Sorry that you were so sore today. Love the abandoned tractor. I started to be sorry for the "cats," then realized your pun. You almost had me there. My brain is slow today.
@chris_in_cal Congratulations on your time trial pace. That is awesome!
I know I haven't posted my workouts this week. I just haven't had time. I'm not supposed to work tomorrow. If that holds, I'll try to catch you up on my very busy week tomorrow.

I am very proud to say that I went on a run this morning! 8.31km plus pre-run physical therapy and a warm up. It was so humid though. I am going to try to bring some water with me on my next run and see if that makes the run easier. I really struggled through the second half of the run even though it was -comparatively to my past months of training - just an average distance/slower paced run.
53.3/150 km for June .6 -

Well, it was miserable. Heat index of 90F before the sun was up. So, I did a treadmill run in canary islands from the comfort of my air conditioned home.
We have landscapers coming the next few days. I know they work outside all the time, but I don't know how they manage these heat waves.6 -
7 miles this morning. Another hot, humid morning run, but at least the dew point was only 68F (lower than the normal 72-75). So it actually felt tolerable.
Oh, and for the first time in 6 months my VO2Max went up. It has stayed at 57 since the beginning of the year, but today it went up to 58.
9 -
Well @Scott6255 @martaindale @Laurz9191 I'm inspired. The way you manage those triple digit monthly running goals is to persevere through the triple digit weather.
Only two more days till summer starts.💥💥🥵💥💥6 -

I am way behind on reading this thread. We had our family reunion this weekend out at the lake that is right outside of town. We had a great time. Last year at the family reunion my mom fell and broke her hip, so we were all a little on edge, but she didn't have any issues this year. We did have a little squabble on Friday between the sister (there are 5 of us), but we got it all sorted out. And there was a small skirmish between my son's dog and my nephew's dog, but we sorted that out too. All in all it was a great time. My daughter didn't make it. She had been planning to come, but she had her appendix out last week and just wasn't quite up to it. I took Friday and today as vacation days, so I decided to do my long run today instead of Sunday.
It was so hot. I should have gotten up earlier, but I was pretty tired and needed the rest. I ran 8.25 miles. I guess that can qualify as a long run. I got out at 8:05 and it was 79°F feels like 79°. By the end of the run it was 86°F feels like 94°. It was just too hot for me to go any further. It is 4:45 right now and it is 104°feels like 115°, so I guess it could have been worse. It was an OK run. I did pick up a dog about half a mile from home. He followed me a bit but then he got distracted by some other dogs and I guess he eventually went home.

I hate the summer soooo much. This week has been really rude. It went from ok to ridiculous in 1 week. I'm ready for it to back off just a little to more normal levels of hot.

Morning everyone,
I have allot of comments to catch up on, will go back and read a little later. My watch broke and I now realise how much I rely on it for motivation. A new face did arrive yesterday an so I am back on the challenge. Just over 11km left - I feel like I should increase my goal from 60km to 75km - so i can be a little out of my comfort zone.
June 2nd - 3.1km (treadmill)
June 3rd - 3.5km (treadmill)
June 4th - 7.05km (outside
June 5th - 4.75km (outside)
June 7th - 2.69km (outside)
June 8th - 3.0km (treadmill)
June 10th - 9.67km (outside)
June 12th - 2.26km (outside) + 3km (treadmill)
June 16th - 6.5km (outside)
June 19th - 3.1km (outside)
Total: 48.62/75

It HAS been a rude week weather wise and people keep asking me if it was really 112 in Austin yesterday and the day before. I think I have been up to 102 and I guess if you put it in the sun in the street it would be that much or more heat index. LOL. WInd chill. I can handle 100 or so but not with 85 percent humidity. Yesterday was pretty hot but right at the height of it we got some clouds roll thru and it dropped into the mid 90's7
