@shanaber It’s great to hear from you! I am so sorry to hear you had to have major surgery. I hope your recovery goes well. It sounds like you have a nice partner to keep you company.
@quilteryoyo A friend of mine runs a u-pick for organic blueberries in Southern California, so they definitely grow there. Where I am from there are also lots of citrus trees, avocados, and strawberries. I hope there are still some blueberries left when I get there at the end of the month .
@Scott6255 That sounds like a horrible run! You must have been happy to be finished!
I didn’t run yesterday, because I couldn’t motivate myself to go out in the heat at lunchtime. I did talk myself out of the house today before it got too hot. I ran 7.3km. It was nice but humid. After my run the weather got progressively hotter and we were outside the whole time. It really zapped a lot of energy out of me. I hope I can at least convince myself to go for a short run tomorrow , before it gets unbelievably hot again.
44.1km/150km for July .5 -
Just me checking in after days away...tarun_yadavA wrote: »@polskagirl01 hahaha... Was it you? Lol
I'm over here eating junk myself, so if I was reporting anyone, I should just report myself 😆
@shanaber so sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope all is well now and that you feel better quickly, even if you can't run for a while. Looks like you're in good hands, I mean PAWS!
Some friends came to visit me, and we stayed over at the lake. Fortunately it was a pretty calm visit even with small children and my pre-teens involved. We did a lot of laying around, having tea & easy meals and taking naps. It was lovely. However, there are a few other stress points going on here at the moment that I wish I could put a stop to, and I'm really wishing I had understood certain situations before I made the decision to purchase plane tickets to come here with my children for the summer. OK, need to think calm thoughts now, getting mad is very bad for my health 😎 Weather looks good for postponed fireworks tonight, so we'll go over for that and I'll try to forget about the drama.None of this is running related, LOL. Sorry!7 -

I ran 2 miles this morning for my streak. I slept in so it was already 84°F, but it was overcast and only 2 miles, so it wasn't unbearable.
It's so good to hear from you @shanaber! I have been worried about you.

Good morning everyone!

Still not got round to fixing my upload issue.
@polskagirl01 - you're a runner. Doenst matter if you are inactive at the mo... All chit-chat is welcome! Love it! 😊.

Bloody Mary incoming...
Have a nice Sunday everyone8 -

I applaud you for trying to run in those conditions yesterday @Scott6255 .
Great running @Mari33a . Great running. I hate it when I forget to turn my watch on.
Great consistency @Zaxa2021 .

@shanaber so glad you keep us in your life.
@polskagirl01None of this is running related, LOL. Sorry!
Understand this, all of you, it is all related. Running just happens to be something we have in common. Highs, lows, ups, downs, training, tapering, racing, running, walking, succeeding, failing/falling, getting up again. We grow and we learn.
10 -
Thanks Everyone! I so enjoy all the posts and following along. @AlphaHowls I love having you all in my life and yes it is all running related one way or another!
I am taking it day by day. After my walk on Friday I continued doing things at home and apparently overdid it. Yesterday was mostly spent in bed. So moderation... I will go for a short(er) walk today.
@polska_girl - Glad you had a chance to spend some time with your friends! Hope the drama dies down and you can just enjoy being at home with your kids. I bet the kids are loving spending time with their grandparents!
@tarun_yadavA - it could be worse than brunch ya' know! Make good choices and enjoy your time with family! What will bring you to Wisconsin? More family?
Looks like most all of the US is going to have really extreme heat and storms again this next week. Please be safe everyone!6 -
The running shoe trials continue (and likely will forever!) I had gotten a new style of Nikes in but they felt really flat and had zero energy return so I sent them back. Looking thru the "best women's running shoes" lists I espied a new brand which I had not heard of before so decided to give them a whirl. Apparently they are made with catnip.😳😂✅ As soon as I opened the shoe box I had cat wars over who could claim the box. I put the On Cloud shoes in the "next run" ready position in the afternoon and they were guarded by one kitty or another full time. hmmm. My impression is that they are a good shoe but nothing to get super excited about like I was with the Fuel Cells last year when I tried them. They are heavier at 7.5 oz than a lot of other shoes and perhaps not quite as comfortable to me as other brands. I put 5 plus miles in on them as sometimes different shoes need to have a "break in" period. So I will reserve total judgment until another run or two. I did not feel anything really special about them.

Last night when I went to bed my weather app said it should be 80° at 6:00, 79° at 7:00, and 81° at 8:00. So I thought if I could get up around 6 and get out the door by 7 and home before 9 when it would be 82° it wouldn't be too terribly hot. But when 6:00 am came around I was not ready to get up and finally dragged myself out of bed at about 6:45. I let the dogs out and to my surprise it was raining, and not that hot. I checked the weather and it was 68°. But the rain would be ending around 7:15. So I missed the "cool" weather.
I finally headed out around 7:45. It was cooler than I expected at about 75°, but it was pretty humid. Then the clouds broke and the sun came out and it was hot. I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. Around mile 5, I found some water sprinklers and stopped to cool off there. Then some clouds came up and it stayed overcast for most of the rest of the run which really helped.
I saw a couple of rabbits today. Not the jackrabbits that I sometimes see at the cemetery. These were just cottontails. I haven't seen many cottontails this year. I also saw one other runner, but it was a pretty uneventful run. I did end up running 11 miles. I started out telling myself that I would at least run 8 miles and somehow I just kept going a little further and a little further until it turned into 11 miles 😁

@SummerSkier The cat guarding your shoes is adorable.
Thanks to all who offered encouragement and enabling me to continue my non-running ranting 😆 I'm currently enjoying tortilla chips and good salsa (all the store-bought salsa or guac I've tried in Poland has too many extra ingredients like sugar, etc, and tastes yucky). I'm hoping the family takes the Poptarts with them on their camping trip though. They are yummy but have no redeeming quality nutritionally (the toaster pastries, not my family). I should have this week to myself and should probably not be left alone with Poptarts 🤣.
Have I mentioned that curbside grocery pickup is awesome? If I happen to buy my own Poptarts though, it's going to be the good ones (like brown sugar cinnamon), not this blueberry stuff my kids picked out.
Last night's adventure consisted of sitting around at the lake with my sister and brother-in-law and watching the fireworks that were postponed from last weekend. We made smores, and I actually agreed with bro-in-law about something related to politics, which may be a world-first.The lake house is right next to where they set the fireworks off, so we just sit on top of the boat dock, but it's fun seeing all the other boats gathering for the show. Afterwards, people from a big house across from us started their own show as well.7 -
Hi, morning all!
9K (5.65M) at 09"10. Bit sluggish. Effects of Friday night beers and wings (and McDonalds!) and Sunday brunch.
@chris_in_cal yes, will open up my diary. But I hate Brunch because...
1. Timings. Just weird. Hungry again at 4, and then 10. Just everything goes out of sync.
2. More me. I workout (run) daily. Done by 10ish usually. Bowl of fruit. Shower. Work/calls. Then have lunch at noon. On a 90%+ of the time, vegetarian diet... Couple of pieces of toast, eggs, mushrooms, tomato, spinach. (And protein shake after). By twelvish - eaten two meals, got in the bulk of my nutrition/protein. Brunch is literally ALL of the above... Fruit eggs yaddi yadda yadda... But you're paying Double digits in Pounds/Dollars (pick your currency) for literally what I eat every day PLUS a few slices of Avocado on the side. The most overrated veggie (fruit?) Of all time ever. And of course, you're obliged to have a drink with all that.
Bleurgh. No thanks.
Rather hold out for another hour/hour and a half... Drink a beer or three, and order regular person food off the lunch menu
No eggs. No avos.
LOL
Rant over.
@shanaber no, no family. Doing Milwaukee and Montreal. Milwaukee - solo; meeting someone there. Montreal - doing with my buddy from Ft Laudy as our annual guys' trip.6 -
Looks like a good time @polskagirl01!
Rant away @tarun_yadavA
Really wasn't feeling in the mood for a time trial, but looking at the weather, today was going to be the coolest morning of the week (79F), so bit the bullet and did it. Was a 2mi WU, then 5:00 best effort, then 1 mi CD (which turned into 5). The time trial wasn't nearly my best effort, but it satisfied the Garmin coach 😉

Perfectly said! I usually don't respond to each and every post (@quilteryoyo is my hero for doing that) but I enjoy reading them all and am cheering each of you on no matter what it is.

My dad got to come home from the hospital yesterday and is doing well. Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and support. I met some friends at 5 am for a run this morning. We were a little over one-half of a mile into the run when one of the ladies tripped on a broken place in the sidewalk and went down. She scraped up one knee and both hands pretty badly so we walked back to the car with her and cleaned her up as best we could. She went on home as did two of the other ladies but one friend and I went back out and did an abbreviated route.
@SummerSkier – I have a pair of OnClouds that I use as travel shoes. They look nice plus I use them to run in while I’m out of town. Like you, they work fine for running but not “the one.”
8 -
@Teresa502 I am so gald your dad is out of the hospital!
@alphahowls I enjoyed your words of wisdom .
@Scott6255 I feel for you! Great job getting so many miles in those conditions. I’m glad your Garmin coach was appeased .
@tarun_yadavA Nice rant . It sounds like you survived. Although personally, the night out would have done me in a lot more than a fancy breakfast .
@chris_in_cal Great job on your longest run of the year.
Sunday was so hot here that we all cowered inside until the early evening trying to stay out of the heat. It rained a lot over night which cooled everything down for my run this morning. It was still insanely humid and abound with slugs but no longer hot, so I made it 9.2km. Tomorrow I have to work until lunchtime and I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to motivate myself to go on a long run in the heat. Maybe I will copy @kgirlhart ‘s playbook and just run a couple miles to maintain a during the week streak .
So far for July 53.3/150km.6 -
@AlphaHowls Great running/HM streak! I'm glad your house is back to being quiet and love the picture of your "nephew." You are amazing. And, I agree, it is all related!
Sorry you had a tough day @shanaber . At least you know how much you can do at this point before it is too much. There is often such a fine line between not enough and too much. Hang in there.
@SummerSkier That is hilarious that your cats were fighting over the box and then guarding the shoes. I think that is the best shoe porn picture ever! I hope they work out well for you, because the cats may declare war on you if you send them back.
Congrats on your long run @chris_in_cal !
Great run yesterday @kgirlhart . Sorry you missed the cool weather, but I'm right there with you when it comes to staying in bed as long as possible. You did great getting in 11 miles!
@polskagirl01 Haha about being left alone with pop tarts! I love your pictures of the lake and all of the boats coming for the fireworks. So cool. Which lake is this? Also funny about you and your brother-in-law agreeing on something political.
Nice run after your weekend @tarun_yadavA . I totally understand why you don't like Brunch. I dislike things that throw my normal routine off and, like you said, your system is just off the rest of the day. Enjoy your vacation.
Nice run @Scott6255 . Laughed when I saw that Garmin coach was satisfied.
Aww thanks @Teresa502 . I'm glad to see that your dad got to go home. I'm sure you are both glad. Sorry to hear about your friend's fall. I hope she is okay and it was great of you to continue running after you got her safely on her way home.
@Laurz9191 I'm glad you got a run in while it was relatively cool. Be carful in the heat and humidity, as I know you already know.

July 10: Walk 1.00 miles - Run 2.30 miles - treadmill
17.60/80 mile goal
Apparently, I haven't posted my runs since the 6th. I thought I had only missed a couple of days. Wait, that is just a couple of days. No, it was three, today makes four. I think I'm losing it!
On the 7th I got a haircut, worked, ran errands, and then did a treadmill session. Besides the warm up and cool down walks, I did a run/walk of 2 x (7/2 min at 4.5/3.8 mph) then ran 9:11 min at 4.5 mph for a total of 2.00 miles. Avg HR was 132, max 145 bpm - during the last 9 minutes.
On the 8th I had mandatory CPR/First aid training for daycare until noon. I ran some errands and then mowed my lawn after I got home. After resting a few minutes from that, I did another treadmill session - it was just too hot for outside running. I did my "fast 30" plan and did 10 x (2/1 min at 5.5/3.8 mph). I really wasn't expecting to make it 30 minutes, but I did and it wasn't awful. My avg HR was 144 with a max of 157 bpm.
After CPR training Saturday, I stopped at a local auto zone to have them check a check engine light that had been on and off, but decided to stay on. The gentleman had me take a picture of the two codes and said he would probably get it fixed, or at least looked at, before driving to FL. Of course, it was already after 5 when I got home, so couldn't call to see about getting an appointment. So, I knew that I would have to try to get that taken care of today. Mom and I had planned to go see my cousin at the assisted living today and then go shopping, so we rearranged and did those things after church yesterday. We didn't get home until after 7:30 pm, so I just did a mile walk on the treadmill to keep my streak going.
Car problems under the spoiler, if you are interested.I called the dealer, who usually works on my car, first thing this morning. They are behind and I couldn't get them to look at it until the 25th. That's a bit too late. So, I called around and found a shop that told me to bring it in and they would see what they could do. My neighbor followed me so I could leave it and then took me out for breakfast. That was nice of him. (I got a call later that, if everything goes well, my car will be ready tomorrow afternoon. It is a rocker arm solenoid valve that they had gotten an alert about. She said it can fall apart and pieces can get into the oil and wherever the oil goes, so they have to take it all apart to make sure there are no pieces anywhere and replace the part. I just hope it gets fixed tomorrow. If not, I'll try to get a rental car for my trip.)
This morning, after my trip to town, I did things to get ready for FL...things that need to be done before I leave and laundry. I went down for a treadmill exercise session mid-afternoon. Today, I just wanted to traverse 3 miles, at least. I walked one mile total for warm up and cool down. The run was a run/walk at 5.0/3.8 mph for 3x(0.25/0.15 miles), 0.55/0.15/0.40 miles. I did the 0.55 miles because I got a phone call I had to take at the 1.4 miles point. When I got back to the treadmill, I just ran the next 0.25 mile, but wasn't paying attention and ran a bit further before I noticed. Total run was 2.30 miles at a 13:00 min/mile pace. Avg HR was 120 with a max of 139 bpm. Not too bad. And, it felt pretty easy after the first half mile or so.
Why is getting ready for a trip so hard?5 -

I ran an uneventful 3 miles this morning. It was a decent run.
@Teresa502 I am glad your dad was able to come home.
6 -
Some great runs out there everyone and some drama - simple is boring!
Impressive best @Laurz9191 and @chris_in_cal ! Running in a group can bring out the competitive in us.
Really pleased your Dad is home @Teresa502 , hope the road rash for your friend isn't to bad.
Glad you came through the unexpected op well @shanaber and looking forward to you posting about your walks.
Where was you marathon @tarun_yadavA ?
So I tried following the running tips, head up, nips, glutes, etc. and decided I looked drunk so back to flopping about for a bit. Maybe do one thing at a time.
Finally an overcast day, a bit of drizzle and a breeze. Ran my first 4 miles, longest run for nearly 3 years, and kept my HR out of zone 5 (recent park run was 50% zone 5 with the heat and humidity. Pace is still slow though it is all about hours on my feet right now.
I am 3.5 months, and 35 lbs, into my 100 lb weight loss plan @chris_in_cal . Similarly I weigh some things avidly and guesstimate others. As long as things are moving steadily in the right direction I will keep to that. No special diet, just CICO. If I fancy a bit of something I will have it. Keep us updated on progress.

Morning all.
Got in 7M (at 9'06).
@Teresa502 - glad to hear your Dad is home 🙏
@quilteryoyo - thank you!!!!! Glad someone gets the brunch thing!!! 😂
Hate over-eating so early in the day. Hate paying 10 extra because something comes on a fancy plate with some sliced avocados on the side. Let's be honest the omelettes at Denny's are better. Hate being hungry again at 10pm and picking at stuff in the fridge... Ok I am ranting again. I'll stop.
@Scott6255 no more brunch rants! Lol
@Laurz9191 haha. Night outs I can handle the next morning! ... Glad you got some KMs in, despite the heat3 -

Holy Moly! I don't think 4 miles is going to be good enough!8
-
@quilteryoyo you sure are busy. Hope your car gets fixed before your Florida trip.
@TheMrWobbly congrats on your longest run in 3 years! And woohoo! You got in the London Marathon!
Did 6.2mi this morning. 84F, Feels like temp 91F , but dew point at 75! I can't remember running when the dew point was that high. It was miserable to say the least.

That is awesome. And maybe a bit terrifying? Can't wait to cheer you on through this journey!
@quilteryoyo This is basically on the other side of the trees from the Flight 93 Memorial.
Yesterday everyone left to go camping. I slept well last night (they took the barky dogs with them) and am thinking maybe my travel/stress crash is over 🙂. I'll try to not overdo it today! I'm also going to repeat the 2-week nicotine patch experiment, because I think it actually helped a bit last time. Not a cure, but maybe brought me up a level, combined with all of the other stuff I do.8 -

Holy Batman it was 58F (14.4C) when I ran this morning! Almost felt like a Fall day. The humidity was still 97% but what a difference in the temperature. I did an obliques and shoulder workout first so I didn’t out until 5:40 am but it was a beautiful morning. @quilteryoyo – Ugh for the car trouble. I hope they get it all repaired before your trip. I love to travel but packing for it is one of my least favorite activities in the world!
Great progress on the weight loss and running fronts @TheMrWobbly! Congratulations on getting in the London Marathon!
@polskagirl01 – Glad you are feeling better and I hope the nicotine patch experience works again.
4 -
@polskagirl01 I hear you on pop-tarts and their lack of redeeming nutritional value. But, if you’re going to have a pop-tart my vote is s’mores. By far the best pap-tart flavor.
@shanaber I had been wondering about you. I’m sorry to hear that you had to undergo major surgery but glad to see you are back and starting your recovery.
@TheMrWobbly Congrats on the London Marathon!! Now for the training.
@Teresa502 Good news that your dad got to go home!
@tarun_yadavA I will never understand people that don’t like brunch. It’s the best of all worlds. You can have breakfast food, lunchy stuff, or things that are a mixture of both. A favorite brunch meal of mine is chicken and waffle. Little sweet, little savory, little breakfast, little lunch. And, avocado is awesome.6
