Harvested a few items in the garden yesterday.
Pictures next.…Will jar some pickles soon and roast the squash tonight.
@itladyee I am so sorry to hear about your beloved dog. It is never easy to let them go. Take care of yourself.
Good to ‘see’ you @ahoy_m8 and hear all is well. Sounds like you are enjoying your summer and yes, the heat is real!
@dawnbgethealthy love the black petunias! Honestly I have never seen them before in any CA.
Going to the gym for 45 minutes of strength training this morning. Looking forward to stocking my refrigerator with something new for our camp trip next month, or maybe before — Bud Zero.
AF until Fri or Sat.

I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style:
Wednesday July 19 - Drinks. Made myself a Mojito out of my Ginger Mint, very delicious and different. Planned AF for the next 5 days.
Thursday July 20 - AF - Quite smoky here on Thursday, pretty much stayed inside.
Rolling total: 12AF days out of 20 days.4 -
Been focusing on being particularly intentional with food and drink over the past few weeks as I continue to work towards my MFP / BMI goals. I’m finally down to my lowest weight in over 30 years and I’m kind of pinching myself. Some might say I have less to lose than others, but I am thinking the effort is the same. Of course life has many stages to it with high and low stressors which those won’t change. The most significant impact has been because of choosing Less Alcohol and staying active. Thank you to each of you for showing up here, and thanks to @MissMay for keeping this important thread going.
We are now having the grandkids over this afternoon until late evening so will postpone my planned Rose’ until tomorrow.

Hugs to Yoda's Mom...you did the right thing, but very sad for you. It is so hard to say goodbye to our furry companions of the heart. 💔
Nota bene... I never ordered anything from that Vermont lily catalog...all my weird & fancy deer munchies came from a friend who closed a landscaping business and had no place for the bulbs in the new quarters. If I coulda-woulda, without deer intervention, I'd invite "Punk" and all his purple friends to my yard.
Finally a cool breezy day without smoke... enough said ??

Under siege...after 3 days, I'm stirring up a skillet of sausages & peppers & onions and opening a bottle of Malbec. AF be damned !!
It began on Wednesday, with a rat-a-tat-tat on a livingroom window over my greenhouse. Female Cardinal clinging to the windowsill obviously seeing a rival in her reflection. Cute, silly bird. Hours pass, she's still there, still pecking. She becomes more upset, flying at the enemy bird and flapping her way up all the way to the top of the 3 foot window. Rinse, repeat. All. Day. Long. Sunset, she quits.
Thursday morning, frantic bedraggled Cardinal is back at it. This needs to stop since there is a shelf under this window that Catpucinno is not allowed to access, and he is showing "interest". Placed a white throw pillow against the window to block reflection. No change. Still a daylong flapping, cheeping , pecking assault .
At some point, "nature calls". At the 2nd floor bathroom window, Cardinal appears, flapping, pecking...Is she FOLLOWING me ??
I trade out white pillow for a burgundy throw pillow...bird stops pecking and tries to peer around pillow. Things are quiet for a while. Evening news is turned up a bit to drown out Cardinal squawks. Cat is no longer "interested" , more like "afraid". Thunderstorm stops all activity.
Friday morning at 5 freakin' 30, she's back at it. It HAS to stop. No creature can keep this level of insanity. I have already e-mailed my daughters that I believe this Cardinal is a former understudy for the Hitchcock film "The Birds".
I think she is getting tired. I HOPE she is getting tired. I PRAY she is getting tired. Friday the assaults are less frequent, but by then I have other issues to deal with.
My heart and COPD meds are delivered by my pharmacy, and Friday is the scheduled delivery day. Because I have a substantial fence, I ask to have the delivery person call me before they enter so I can assure them that I have "no dog" so they can bring the meds to my front door. Today, Friday, I get a call from the delivery person [tiny Asian lady] asking me to come to front gate. Why ? Doe-Doe is lunching under the apple trees and shows no signs of leaving. Delivery lady and I shouting back and forth across 100 foot yard does not inspire Doe-Doe to vacate the area. No delivery. No return attempt. I can only imagine the story the delivery lady has to tell when she ends her day !! Yes, Doe-Doe is bigger than both of us....
Well, Middle Daughter has a pick up scheduled from the same drug store, so, please, please, add mine to yours this evening ?? Okay-fine. When MD arrives after work, Doe-Doe is back and still not inclined to allow anyone to enter HER munch area. Still no meds delivery. 5 days til I run out.
What's next ?? A Groundhog revolt ?? Carrying flaming twigs and chanting "Plant more broccoli !!"
Will Animal Control believe me ??
It's a large bottle of Malbec.

@forestdweller1 OMG I am having the EXACT same issue with a male cardinal at our front window. All. Summer. Long. My dog goes berserk. Plus now my windows are dirty. Super annoying, cute as he is. Spoiler alert: it will not stop. Hope you can get your meds! I hate when the deer eat our landacape like they paid for it or something.
I had that second big glass of wine last night. Big mistake, I was up half the night. Have to work early this morning. Pass the coffee.8 -
@itladyee my sincerest thoughts on the loss of Yoda. It is so unfortunate our fur babies do not have longevity like we do. Such a sweet face and I agree how the heck with those hangers? My first pup died in 2003, the next 2018 and my last one 2021. I still have deep emotions for all three even after 2, 5 and 20 years. Memories can help, big hugs to you.7

@dawnbgethealthy your plants are amazing. The black theme a nice touch. Once I planted EXPENSIVE black bearded iris bulbs and black dahlias both rotted in the ground before they ever had a chance to produce. Another cha-ching of $$ down the drain.

@Michieb125 your garden photos are great. Nothing better than fresh veggies. Do you get so many that you secretly leave them on relatives door steps or in friends cars? It was always a good way for me to distribute excess produce. LOL.3

@2timesacharmmfp what wonderful news you PASSED!!!! WOO HOO!
It is a new day, tweak your goals if you need to. Main thing is your aware of wanting to change and you come here for accountability.4 -
@forestd1weller1 YOU my friend never disappoint with your posts. I would bet you could scab through the writers guild strike and be hired on spot. You write and say what you feel, no holding back and raw. I love that about you.
So yes I too have had the mentally challenged cardinals when I lived back in Maine. They ruined the huge side mirrors on our one ton dump truck. Those were not cheap to replace. My late husband thought it was cute the first day then after 2 or three days he came in the house like Tony Saprano and stated you wont need to worry about that cardinal any longer. I never asked and never looked for the body.
Hope you enjoyed that Malbec.5 -
First day yesterday at new job went so fast. Real lunch break, omg an actual break room, coworkers all seem nice, management is helpful and kind.
But the view....it might take some getting used to. LOL
Yes this is tough to deal with at work.

You are such a great writer. Seeing a post from you really starts my day off so well, thank you!
Oh gosh y'all about the Cardinals, I had no idea!
@MissMay I am so happy for you with your new job.4 -

Friday July 21 - AF - I probably could have had drinks last night after my 2 jobs because I only have 1 on Saturday that doesn't start until 3. I have plans to walk over to the Farmer's Market, do some weeding and some watering. Very hot here, so I am grateful that I wake up so early in the mornings before it gets too hot.

@ahoy_m8 such an adorable photo of you and your husband. Glad it was a nice get a way. Was that a golf course?
It was a mountain trail that kinda kicked my *kitten*, TBH https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7093550/nambe-lake-out-and-back4 -
Those cardinal stories are hysterical, and happy we don’t have these birds out in the West! But, Woodpeckers here can be very menacing on a house and I’m thinking they must be after something behind that wood siding or stucco.
Had little grandkids here for about 6 hours yesterday. Once they went home, I finally sat down and gave in to 2 1/2 glasses of white wine and a movie. It was the last bottle in my nice wine refrigerator. Back in the day my husband and I used to never allow it to get below 9-10 bottles. Another new revelation.

@Michieb125 We've let our inventory get low, too. Still lots of Cabernet, but no white wine except for sparkling and champagne. DH actually pinged me to pick up something I would want for happy hour but I was lazy and didn't. Rather than opening a nice French champagne, we opened a handmedown bottle gifted to one of our daughters who dumped it on gave it to us. Gruet from NM, and I do like it, so half a bottle down for me last night. Tonight we go to a party and I plan to start with a hard drink like a limey tequila soda then just refill with soda. Tomorrow we usually shake up a margarita before dinner. We will not be following that with white wine because we don't have any.5

Nice late afternoon sail yesterday, and will be on the boat all day with my sister in laws’s family. Should be fun! I had one drink in the boat and a glass of wine when I got home. I’ll stick to two drinks today in some combination. I need a vacation from all the fun.
@MissMay so glad the new job is awesome! And what a view!3 -

@MissMay that new view from your new job, though!
Temps still hovering pretty high yesterday - kind of feel like a slug when it’s 100 degrees outside. Planned to have a Stella NA 00 while cooking dinner but had the white wine from the opened bottle instead. Then, half of a Smirnoff ICE zero sugar on ice in the same glass (dumped the other half can for calories sake). Still LA compared to June’s 2+1 shenanigans. Closing in on the last week of July! Time for me to rack up AF days this week.
