Thanks Ginny and Michele- I am going to church. If dh wants to go shopping after I am done, I will go with him but if he chooses to go before that, I am fine with that too. He needs to man up and tell his mom no once in a while. We have gone out shopping almost every day this week for something for her because she has decided she wants to cook again-but only tells him a few things she needs. He says she gets mad if he doesn't go shopping right away the night she asks for it- Oh well, always mad about something.
Betsy- prayers for your sister.
Tracked my food all week- walked about an hour or so 5 days and did Zumba two nights getting up to 20,000 steps on those days, 10,000 the rest of the week. Weight loss- 00.00
Tomorrow I will be up early to walk because Ezie is back to her early schedule for the next three weeks then she will be back in school and I am supposed to cut back to two days a week- will see if that still happens. She will be in school until 2:10 and grandparents pick her up by 4:30.
Dh has calmed down- he will wait for me to go with him after I get back from church. Not sure which store we will go to. I can work in the garden this afternoon after we get back, when it is cooler
Have a wonderful day ladies-

I sent a birthday card to our son. I don’t whether he has received it yet, & I hope he has received it by now.

Kanye, NH I am a long distance parent/grandparent as well. And as you stated, it is indeed a result of the decisions I’ve made or not made in the past so need to live with it. I do keep in touch will all of them however and that seems to work. My children are ages 39, 40, 44 and step-girls 39, 42. We never hear from the step-girls (at lease 25 years now) but hear from my 3 all the time. It can work. I do know it is better for my anxiety/depression as I am away from the worse of the ‘drama’ but am still informed and can advise if asked.

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them. I did not do this.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation. I worked on this. I also learned a breathing technique to help.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step. I have to think about this.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts. Controlled breathing helped here.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today. I use tenacity often so expect to use it here.
18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter. I will try!
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. I need to really remember this!
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself. I will definitely try.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life. Therapy, someone to talk to, long walks alone all help me through tough times, medication as well.
22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down. 1. I hope my son makes good decisions. 2. I am hopeful that I will find the right place to retire. 3. I am hopeful that I will be able to visit family very soon.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time. I won’t dwell on things or situations that happen causing me bad feelings.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong. My son has admitted his situation is his own fault.
25. Notice when you are being judgmental and be kind instead. I will be aware of judging and simply accept.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath. I am teaching myself to do this through my meditations.
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem. My son is the biggest problem I’ve had lately. I need to accept that he is making the bad choices knowingly and I can’t do anything about them.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right. We could have a good Saturday without police or ambulances having to show up.
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support. Will do31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

I'm in Anchorage AK and closed up my camp until next summer. My sister's immunotherapy caused a failure of her adrenal glands to produce cortisol and other hormones. She is out of the hospital and taking steroids to try to jump start her adrenals. Lucky it seems her pituitary appears to be functioning. She can't travel so we'll be here until she is totally stable, then we will travel to Washington state and she can be monitored by the Cancer Institute.
I'm so far behind on reading but I will catch up.
Betsy
Betsy, we won’t be mad if you skip. I do sometimes when I need to. Take care of you as well as your sister!

On walking…. I love, love, love, to walk outside and do the trails here at the park. I would walk inside, however 10 steps and I’m at the end of the RV. We live 30 minutes away from the nearest store, mall, or adult center so can’t do that everyday. I’ve been struggling with my depression because of not being able to walk or exercise due to the above 100 degree weather here. I know I should get up early and do early morning walks, but (I know its just an excuse) I am a late sleeper. It’s weird because I/we go to bed at 9 pm, I read until 10pm but don’t get up until between 9-10 am. I/we sleep too much and I suspect is a result of depression. I also don’t sleep well at night between my elderly dog getting me up 3-4 times a night and my arthritis/bursitis pain that shows up at night. Oh, well, it is what it is right now.

Tracey - thank you for the stats. I'll add them to the accountability post for tomorrow.
Remote classes and no driving for your college classes - the time saving and gas saving will be a wonderful benefit. So happy you got the financial aid. And I said a prayer for your daughter - hoping she's doing better today, sounds like she'll have to wait until tomorrow for the definitive results.
Other ladies - reminder, if you want to be added to that weekly post, you can message me on MFP. It worked out great this past week when ladies added their stats during the week too.
Lisa - thank you for the osteoarthritis information. I'm doing my share with the coffee. Good job on the higher step count and your progress in the craft room. What a great feeling when you get everything set up and organized. We'll want to see photos of course.
My mom broke her hip in her mid-80's, due to poor balance (I'm guessing, I wasn't in Indiana at the time) falling when she got up out of her chair. OR the hip just finally gave away then she fell. I guess this happens too. Due to her balance issues, and painful feet, she didn't get much walking in so of course bone weakness.
As Leslie Sansone says, walk! walk! walk! I found her channel on YouTube and can play it on the Roku TV. It bugs me that YouTube would plays ads right in the middle of the routine and I haven't figured out how to "skip ads" with the remote yet. I have a few of her walking DVD's and will try to get that DVD player hooked up today. I always liked those routines better anyhow, one is just for seniors.
Knees and kneeling: Years ago I picked up a couple spiffy "garden stools" that are also kneelers when flipped over. I don't think they make them anymore. It's light, sturdy, and so easy to get up from. I loaned one of them to a friend to use as a shower chair and it worked great. When flipped over it has a nice foam kneepad attached with velcro. Anyhow, helps me to not have to bend from a standing position. Same with the tight hamstrings.
Rebecca - that comment you middle son made about being there for you nearly made me reach for a tissue. Boy, it won't be long now until Athena has a sibling. She's getting so grown up. Love seeing her photos.
I started this post 4 hours ago and got interrupted. Walmart and something leaking under the car. I figured it was just condensation but called Roger over for a consult. He agreed about condensation and checked all the fluid levels. I thanked him profusely and he said "that's what I'm here for." (To save ladies from vehicle and chicken coop distress, lol.) When I pick up the Subaru, hopefully on Tuesday, I'll drive the old Camry in and the shop can go over it. I've barely put 1000 miles on it in the last year, but since it sat for so long I'd feel better. There's kind of a "creak" in the steering, hope it just needs some lube.
Kayne - an eclipse! Hope your family can get together for it. Here in the Pacific Northwest, sometimes our night skies are overcast even in the summer - at least during prime eclipse time, lol. I agree, your posts aren't boring. We ladies do a lot of "virtual" sightseeing and cruising so are happy to be with you during some of your daily activities.
Betsy - sorry to hear about your sis. Have a safe flight back from Alaska.
Machka - your bone density scan will be interesting, hope things go well. That vibration plate I got last Christmas is supposed to help with bone density - I don't use it much because I am getting walking and working outside. And it makes my knee a little grumpy. I am happy with keeping at the top of normal on the standard BMI chart. If my goal was 20 lbs under that, I would worry a lot about bone density. I think our bones like to us carry some weight, up to a point.
Your Windy.com storms remind me that in just about 3 months, our fall/winter will be starting in and the "monsoons" will keep everything wet and windy too. Your spring will be coming along and we can hear about and see your DH's neat garden.
OK, need to get going. Have a great Sunday!
Lanette

Tracey ... I will be praying for your daughter through her pregnancy. And have fun with the virtual college experience! You'll still be "working" ... just at a different task.
Kayne ... add me to the others who enjoy hearing about the lives of our group members. We are so diverse that it is always interesting.
Lisa ... the siding project continues! Friday my husband came close to experiencing heat stroke. He was a mess ... ice on his head ... heat on his spasming muscles. Yesterday my husband's friend showed up at the door early in the morning. I think my husband had hoped the rain would keep him away. Nope. They worked for 4-1/2 hours in a steady rain but stopped when it became a downpour. He said it was easier to work in the rain than the brutal heat. This week's weather is to be milder and he's hoping to get a lot more done. As it stands, the longest side of the house has had old siding removed and new wood installed (original construction of house didn't have solid walls as it used masonite boards) and is ready for new siding. A shorter side is just about ready for new siding. The other shorter side needs to have the old siding removed but it also has all the service entrances to deal with so he may be hiring an electrician to help. The 4th side (front of the house) is brick! Yay!
I have been trying to determine what is causing my intermittent painful gas episodes ... another one yesterday after dinner ... I can't see a definite pattern yet but suspect lactose and maybe eating too fast. My weight has been bouncing this week. Rats.
My husband has also had to be my nurse this week. At my last dermatology appointment, a spot was biopsied that then needed to be completely removed this week. Atypical nevus, but waiting on pathology confirmation. I can't reach the dang thing on my back so my husband has to do all the cleansing and dressing changes. What a bother. They asked if I wanted a suture removal kit so he could take out the stitches in a couple of weeks and I said no thank you. He thinks a pocket knife is a surgical instrument! Besides, I'd like a real nurse to take a look and make sure everything is healing as it should.
Hoping this will be a quiet week.

Haven't gotten on bikes other than the stationary type since I was 25. It makes so little sense to me that it would not only not be helpful, but actively harmful to your bones! It's such great exercise. Glad you're getting checked and that you're actively adding weight-bearing exercise to your regimen to compensate.
Kayne - Never bored, always glad to know how you're doing. We should see the eclipse at mid-day here, too, and my best friend has already made plans to be here. I talk to her two or three times a week, but it's been four years since I visited her in Montana.
Just dropped in while my breakfast burrito ingredients are in the air fryer - getting more and more used to it and using it more often.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa
We love our air fryer- have worn out two or three since the first one. That is the most used appliance after the microwave. Even dh actually uses it once in a while(he does not cook anything but may reheat something for himself if he has to).
We upgraded to the one with the two trays a while ago-just replaced the first one like that. Thankfully I kept the trays from it because they not only fit in the new one but are nonstick which the new ones aren't and, the bottom tray actually fits better than the one that came with it.
Need the not stick for things like the wings I did last week- pressure cook them first in my teriyaki sauce then air fry with glaze on them to crisp them up a bit and render the extra fat out. I used to not like wings because of the soggy skin and extra fat. After air frying them, they are really good. I pressure cook them first so they are fall off the bone tender and I know for sure they are cooked all the way through.
I have seen parchment like "coffee filter" things that fit your air fryer so it stays clean.
Regarding your painful abdomen, do you still have your gallbladder? Does is feel spasms pain wise? Does it come and go? Is it tight pressure across your whole abdomen? You might have gallstones!💖🤔

I too sleep like you. Bed by 9, then really don't fall asleep until 10 pm. I usually wake up at midnight, 3 am, 5am and then at 9 am, getting up at 9:45/10. I do sleep though, heavy in between all the times I'm up. Sorry your arthritis/bursitis makes itself known😥.

Beth - Sorry about the painful gas! My system is taking about three days to process solids, and I do well to remember breakfast, so am struggling to figure it out, too. Bless your husband's heart, heat exhaustion is scary stuff. Glad, too, that the friend is helping out. Hopefully that makes it so all you have to do is provide sandwiches, sympathy, and compliments on the work well done. I've always been better at those than actual construction work. Glad y'all are due for better weather.
So far, while there have been a few easily-replaced bad spots, the vast majority of the siding that's been removed has solid T-111 under it, the wood sheathing, and Corey is simply repairing as necessary, then painting it as he goes and installing trim over it. We're not reinstalling siding, because the bug population here just makes that kind of airspace a critter highway. We have evicted more spiders than I care to rememember already.
But, the painted wood makes for a rustic look that I really like with the stone. Like your brick, the front and the east end of our house are almost all stone, just a little siding in the pointy bits, but the west side is the carport, which has two big walls of siding to remove, and will be the last large demolition piece. The biggest/longest was the rear wall, and that's done except for a few pointy bits (eaves?). More 100 to 105 degree weather here for another couple weeks, so I'm urging him to leave it for now and pick it up when we start cooling off toward the end of August. It's just brutal out there.
He's been outside cutting and burning brush through the morning, came in and showered and is now getting his latest batch of beer bottled, while I avoid the kitchen at all costs. I've finished all the laundry (always satisfying), and now that I've got the meds on board and the pain in check, time to get the next thing done in that craft room! And Lanette, of course I took before pictures... Somebody has to pat me on the back, even if it's me...

Betsy, dear heart, so many hugs coming your way down the aether for you and your sister... Hope the steroids do their job soon, and that stability for your sis isn't far off. Was just thinking about you this week, and wondered how your camp was going this summer. Glad to see you back, so sorry it's because the immunotherapy has caused such issues for your sis.

I’ve had a brilliant relaxed day. We got out and finished our planting out. Most of our produce is now yielding well. Excess is being been donated to very happy neighbours. Mostly salad veg, with courgette and green beans. DH always grows too much no matter what I say 😝
We had a lovely chat on Skype with our elder girl and 2 of her adult children who have their own places. Gson just moved into a new place in Belfast. at the end of June. He did a 5K this morning and was quite tired. Gdaughter lives in Oxford. I love these fortnightly Skyped with them.
The Barbie film has just premiered in UK and the 3 of them were having quite a discussion about it. Gson thought it was good. Daughter and Gdaughter were more scathing about several aspects.
Re walking: I do like walking outside, just not in the pouring rain. Love Lesley Sansone. She was my go to for awhile but I have found dance based workouts which are more to my taste.

Betsy- big hugs for you and your sister. That is a lot to go through.
Watched Marple and Poirot this evening. Too much to drink.
I've just started reading 'Persuasion', by Jane Austen, again. Third time I think, but it may be fourth. It's amazing how you notice different things on each reread. This time I'm interested in the social plight of unmarried women. She is so good on that. So acute, ironic, and even sarcastic. She doesn't spare anyone, even herself.
It cost 23 pence, for my Kindle. My old paperback has tiny print. Unreadable nowdays.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
Betsy-prayers for your sister-it is horrible when the hormonal items are out of balance/stop working. Hope everything kicks in soon.
Tracey-continued prayers for daughter. It is hard not to worry.
Beth-you are a very smart woman choosing the nurse to remove the sutures! I agree not a bad idea to get the wound checked since you can't see it. Painful gas could be diverticulitis-it can really hurt. I have a medicine (bentyl) that helps relax everything.
Lisa-Corey is always doing something-a true worker.
Terri-I love that we can Skype/Zoom/FaceTime to have more direct connection in conversations.
I admire those of you doing your own siding and other home improvements. I have some painting I want to get done (interior) but I can do that a bit at a time.
Medicine change up so far so good. I have not had the weird neuropathy feelings in my feet the last two days. I am hopeful.
Dirty kitchen is calling me to clean it and I need to pack lunch.
Take care all,

Terri - any suggestions for dance based workouts you like? Are you finding any on YouTube?
I was finally able to watch one of my Leslie Sansone DVD's. The DVD player hooked to the TV was not a go - can't find the remote for it. Tried it in the DVD player in this laptop - I was unable to get it launched even though I could find the file.
Third time was a charm - a cheap small screen DVD player I purchased a couple years ago. I had to search for a couple minutes but found it. Now I can play my Tai Chi and Balance DVD's too.

Regarding sleep ... the nights before work, I go to bed just before midnight and fall asleep about half an hour later. Then I wake up just before 7:30 am.
I need more sleep but I also need alone time.
Regarding cycling long, long distances and bones ... I will post more after work.
But as I mentioned, cycling shorter distances like say usually under 100 km isn't too bad. It's the really long distances that aren't good for the bones.

Reading Organized Enough by Amanda Sullivan. It is helping me get motivated to do some deep cleaning. A few ideas so far is to go through your home and look for the areas that are not working and start there. Have the things you use everyday readily accessible. Give yourself permission to get rid of those things that you are someday going to get to examples would be half done projects that have been there for years to get done. My favorite thing to do is think of your home like a garden. You constantly tend to a garden with watering and weeding. So your home needs constant nurturing by weeding out the unnecessary, saying no to anything that does not add value. Just because it is free or cheap does not mean it improves your life. Set a timer to get yourself to start a task. The biggies were paperwork, clothes, hobbies that get out of hand, toys. Limit yourself...one is often better than two. Put things back in their home when done using it so easy to find when needed again. Sort like with like. Right now I gathered all my post it notes and I have a shoe box full of them. My goal is to cut these in half to start. I got most of them when I was teaching.4

Flea ((hugs)) hope the estate settling struggles are nearly over. As for the photos, is there a Latter Day Saints family history center near you? Maybe someone there could help trace any collateral relations who would welcome the pics. Ah I see Kim has already suggested that. And love the suggestions to write up as much of the story as you can. Will be welcome by whoever receives.
Annie conVERYgratulations! What others have said about taking time to exercise and letting your sister cope with your parents for a few hours, As for cooking, maybe she’d like to cook for herself and her parents for a day and give you a real break?
Heather ‘I really must get going on a novel about my grandmother's family and how my parents met. (I've been casting around for a next project after the current one)” Impressive passion and energy! Just don’t let your writing edge out your painting, the water colors are just too good.
Only through pg 60 but that’s enough for one evening.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

I have seen the coffee filter type liners and they are great for the basket type of air fryer. Ours has two flat shelves in them. I guess I could use just parchment paper but for things like chicken and other meats, I want as much fat to render out and get away from the meat as possible.1 -

Annie - Well done getting your dad back safe and sound, and your triumph over the drive to the airport.Tracey, Lisa Etc, KJ et al, sorry to disappoint but had to back off the comments, way too far behind. Also the stats, but yes I’m happy, all’s well here, the Flat fire is not near, no smoke here and 20+ percent contained.
Got all silly-sophical about getting rid of my home office, finally, and lost three paragraphs when I touched the touchscreen. You're welcome, it was way too deep for 2 a.m.! Time for one more cup of Sleepy Time tea, not that it has worked yet, but it tastes really good.
Love y'all,

Good morning, chickadees. Another dull morning, with rain forecast. Planning to have another go at my closet, do some crochet, and maybe work on a jigsaw.

Annie: Bravo!! It’s good that your sister was sympathetic, appreciative, and helpful during her visit. Not everyone appreciates what elder carers do for the family.
Lanette: I googled dance workouts. These are ones I have used and will start you off. Once you watch one, YouTube will offer you more. If you click subscribe when you find one you like you will get more by that person.

margaretturk wrote: »Reading Organized Enough by Amanda Sullivan. I got most of them when I was teaching.
My problem with organising is this ... I know how to organise. I know most of the tips and tricks. I read articles with advice on how to do it and think, yes, I know all that.
I just don't have time to do it.
They even make suggestions like ... look around and if there's anything that can be done in 5 minutes, do it now ... but I've done all those things. The next things to do will involve weeks of work.
Today I am resorting to putting stuff in nice-looking boxes. I hate doing that because it doesn't solve the problem ... it only makes things look a bit less visually cluttered.
If you have the time, enjoy the organising. It's fun! When I have had the time, I've always enjoyed it.
Then think about a trip to Australia to help me! 😀
