Michele - any chance your painful tooth could be from grinding your teeth? Seems like when I have a tooth giving me trouble I can put in an el-cheapo Plackers "Grind No More Nightguard" and after a couple nights, things have calmed down. I used to get them at the Dollar Tree. They haven't carried them for a while. So I order them from Amazon. The package says use for three nights and I'd get a month out of them because I didn't chew them to pieces like some folks must do. Just pour mouthwash over them or brush with a toothbrush.

I grind my teeth ... one in front has ground down quite a bit and I think I've worn down a couple in the back. I've had a lot of work done on my back teeth because of the grinding ... I've shattered teeth.
I do have a custom mouth guard (the off-the-shelf kind were too big for me) and wore it every night for the first 6 months I had it, then I began skipping nights and stopped when I had the first of 2 nose surgeries in mid-2020. I really need to wear it more again now that my nose is pretty much OK from the second surgery. I did wear it one night recently, and it was OK.

Lisa in Ark so glad you are through the ordeal. Sounds like you got some good information to go forward. Hope the meds help your symptoms.
Machka what a pretty dress!
I have to take my dad to the computer store today. It's a big deal considering it's an hour drive on the interstate, and we haven't researched any new computers. I rarely leave the house anymore, except for medical visits. So I'm nervous about it.
Annie in Delaware6 -
I'm sure many of the older souls around here remember DamitJanet, who changed her reference name to DJ because another Janet had come on board (miss both of them!).
Now that we've got another Lisa (in Arizona, and very welcome!), rather than have y'all try to differentiate, I thought I'd do that myself. Since Egg the cat is such a part of my daily life, I thought I'd try to add her in... For now, I'll sign off as Etc in AR, and see how it goes.
For the new chums, this is Egg, when she did NOT want me to get on the elliptical until I petted her first. She turns into the boneless cat from Charlie Brown and you might as well give in and pet her, because resistance is futile....
Oh - one more good news that came out of the standard pre-scope testing, my hemoglobin has finally moved up into the normal range for the first time in well over a year. The three iron sugar infusions in the winter must have finally jump-started my bone marrow and got it producing again. Finally NOT anemic, for the first time in a long time! Lots of good news...
I think I've said enough of late for y'all to understand my weight-loss history, so I'll skip that bit--and Lanette's proposal for people chiming in on their progress is something that, while it's not for me, may just be what some of you need. If it makes sense to you, jump on board! It's always fun to watch folks succeed, or even to fall off and get back on track, with lots of helping hands here to do that.
For those who hesitate, know that I do not deal with numbers concerning my weight because they jack up my stress levels into the stratosphere. But everyone is different. For me, the last few years, I've simply had a goal of being lighter at the end of each month than I was at the beginning, and for me, that made sense.
The best part about everyone in this group is that we don't believe there's only one way, or that there is a right or wrong way to reach our goals. The fact that you start one way doesn't mean you must continue or you will have failed. You do what you do, and you'll be supported here.
Many good wishes for all who begin, continue or achieve their goals-proud of you! Speaking of which, Terri, you never cease to amaze...

Etc in Ark Thanks for sharing the results of your testing. You've had a rough go and I'm glad to hear how things are going.
Terri, Loved to hear about your plan. It has some similarities to what I've been doing--taking baby steps, doing it one day at a time, focusing on right actions rather than just on the numbers on the scale.
Annie, best wishes to you. going on the interstate is something I don't like doing.
We went to the dermatologist yesterday. There was only one place on my face that he had to freeze off and he said he'd see me in a year for a full body scan. You have all taught me to pay attention to my skin. Since I saw him last, I've been so much better about putting sunscreen on my face before going out during the day..
I plan to take myself on another driving lesson today. Now that I know how to start the car and put it in drive or reverse, I can venture out on my own. I'll drive around the neighborhood (almost no traffic and 15 mph) then venture out the nearby post office.

Terri - thank you very much for your post. I copied and pasted it onto a word document so I can start filling in the blanks. Very inspirational and so much wise guidance. I see you were dedicated logging your meals in MFP - did you also keep some kind of a log to keep track of your other goals?
Machka - that dress is adorable. If I had a function where I had to wear a dress, that's the one I would pick. I don't think I even own a skirt anymore.
About goals - in the past, I've been most successful when I've set my goal at 5# at a time. When I got there, I'd move the goalpost. I need to be more dedicated in doing that. And keeping my goal within a 5# range. And I'm taking my waist and hip measurements too, because that's where the recent gain has settled and it's aggravating that all of my pants are getting tight.
ETC in AR - You'll always be Lisa in AR to me. Thank you for your input on weight loss and goals. Good reminders. I wonder how Janet is doing. Think about her from time to time.
Rori - you asked about chickens. Lookie at what I just found this morning. I let the girls out early for their hour walk, stuck my head out the door to check on them, and they were heading up the sidewalk to the house, lol. I lured them back into their run with treats and just outside the gate, under the apple tree, here was a nice little surprise. I'm pretty sure it was Gladys, 17 weeks old. Which tells me the girls need to stay confined in their run in the mornings, at least until they figure out to lay their eggs in the nest in the coop and not under the apple tree by the gate The egg on the left is a large store-bought for comparison. Pullet eggs (their first ones) start out tiny like this.
Barbie- it won't be long you'll be mastering that new car of yours. Once I got the hang of it, I'd be thinking of excuses to drive it here and there, especially since I wouldn't have to pull into the gas station. I wonder how it will affect your monthly power bill? I've heard they don't draw much current. I'm getting to really appreciate battery operated lawn tools, that's for sure.
Barbara AHMOD - hope the fires don't impact you.
Back later - make it a wonderful day!

Lanette ~ So proud of your first chickee egg! I'm glad you are able to lure them back into their coop.
Machka ~ That is a pretty dress!
ETC ~ Egg looks very comfortable.
Annie ~ I hope you have a successful trip on the interstate and hope your dad gets the computer fixed or a new one.

Regarding weight loss goals, I measure it in weeks rather than weight quantity.
When I started on a mission to lose weight in 2015, I had 15 weeks from the time I started until we went to Canada. So I stuck to the plan, weighing and logging all my food in MFP, logging all my exercise in various places like I have done since April 29, 1990 and netting 1250 calories a day.
I didn't know how much I would lose and didn't pick a number. I just wanted to lose some. The first 10 days I lost nothing! But I was determined to stick with it for at least 5 weeks. By 5 weeks I had lost 5 kg and by 15 weeks I had lost 15 kg. Surprised me!
This time in early May I knew I had about 6 or 7 weeks till the conference so I cut back on what I ate, but didn't log and I exercised more and of course I did log that. I lost 4 kg in those weeks. That was all right. 😀
Now, I am not quite sure what to do. I would rather not cut back more food ... but I might have to.

Went to the gym and did a body pump DVD then stopped at Dollar General but they didn’t have any towels. Then I saw a bunch of cars at 5 Below and since I’d never been in there, I thought they opened at 8 only they open at 9. It’s where all the stuff is in bins and you are to search thru the bins. I have no desire to do that. Also, everything is $1 today, so that’s why there were so many people. Then went to Hamricks because they have pet toys on sale, buy 1 get 2 free, only they didn’t have any cat toys, so I went to Gabes next door and they only had 4th of July towels so I went to Aldi, Now home and have the dentist at 12. Made chocolate bran muffins
Lisa – so glad you got good news from the tests
We’re supposed to go to this music bingo tonight. It’s going to be 50’s and 60’s music. One lady said that she’s sitting next to Vince because he’ll know all the 60’s songs….lol We’ll have dinner at the place, I’ll probably have fish. I’m going to look at the menu online first
Terri – awesome chart! I used to do something like that only I got bored with my weight always being in the same range
Off to the dentist now

Some data about my weight loss journey.
July 2023 - My Why?The sad fact is that there are no hard and fast rules to getting fit and healthy. Each one of us is a unique individual, and there is no magic formula for what we want to do.My How?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Slow, steady, sustainable habit adjustments are crucial to getting to where we want to be.
I started in January 2015.
My WHY! I had developed degenerative bone disease in one hip which impacted my mobility. My weight had crept up, which didn’t help matters. I needed a hip op, but had to lose an appreciable amount of weight before that could happen. I was 227 lbs, and at rock bottom emotionally.
My HOW! By chance, I received an email from my writing coach which set out a way to achieve writing goals which resonated with me. It set out a 4 step plan which changed my life. I realised that it could be applied to all sorts of goals and resolved to use it to create a written plan for my desire to lose weight.
📍My 4 Step Plan for goal setting success
(AKA Jurgen Wolff, 'My Writing Coach')📍Step 1.
Imagine you are at the end of the year. Think of the one thing that you would like to be able to look back at, at the end of the year, and say 'I did that!'
Write:
"At the end of this year I would like to look back and be able to say ....................."
This becomes your primary goal. (If you have an unused note book use the first page to do this.)
📍Step 2
Underneath that write:
"Today, to help me achieve my primary goal, I am going to do............... (Write in one or two small things that you can do now to start you off.)
Now go and do them! You are taking the first step towards success!
📍Step 3.
Now that you have taken the first step write out and complete the following sentences
Tomorrow I will ....................... to help me achieve my primary goal.
This week I will ....................... to help me achieve my primary goal.
Next week I will ...................... to help me achieve my primary goal.
Next month I will .................... to help me achieve my primary goal.
Please take the time to write these out. It reinforces your commitment to the goal.
📍Step 4
Review your progress daily, weekly, monthly.
Adjust the steps as you progress.
CELEBRATE EVERY SINGLE STEP YOU TAKE!
This is what I wrote on the first page of my notebook.
📍At the end of the year I would like to be able to look back and say that I had lost 1lb for every week of 2015.
📍Today, to help me achieve my primary goal, I will:
1. start logging my calories on MFP.
I had been putting this off for far too long. (I got the shock of my life when I realised how many calories I was eating. My dietician had said I should be eating between 1200 and 1500.)
2. walk to the local shops. (This was a 2 mile walk. It took me over an hour, but I felt great afterwards.)
📍This week, to help me achieve my primary goal, I will:
1. park on the other side of the town park and walk to and from the activity centre instead of parking outside it. (This was a twenty minute walk each way as I took a roundabout route through the park. )
2. weigh my food and log it on MFP and stay under goal.( I have done this almost every day now since I started logging.)
3. do a minimum of 30 minutes exercise every day and log it on MFP. (I started walking around the neighbourhood after dinner if I hadn't done this earlier in the day. I also did ‘Walk with Lesley' several times a day as well as doing my out and about stuff.
📍Next week, to help me achieve my primary goal, I will:
1. weigh and log foods
2. increase my walking to a minimum of 60 minutes a day
3. do a minimum of 3 X 30 minute aerobics sessions
4. do 30 minutes of Tai Chi each morning
📍Next month, to help me achieve my primary goal, I will:
1. weigh and log food
2. Join challenges on MFP
3. increase my aerobics sessions to 45 minutes
4. Extend my yoga/tai chi using YouTube vids
5. increase my walking to 90 minutes a day
6. Keep a diary of my progress.
7. Add other goals as the months pass, but never lose sight of my primary goal for the year.
I steadily adjusted my habits. One small thing at a time.
By September 2015 I had lost over 40 lbs and had my hip replacement done.
I hit several plateaus after that, but kept going until I reached maintenance in November 2019. I have continued to adjust my habits and gradually dropped some more weight and now weigh what I weighed pre babies.

Successes
• Back to what is a new normal for me.
• Pre-logging food for the day ahead
• Healthy snacks factored into calorie budget
• Solid Habits development
• Maintaining mindful focus on health and fitness
• Cutting myself some slack on the daily ups and downs
• Finding enjoyable ways to move. If you don’t enjoy it, then it’s difficult to motivate yourself
• I found some great seated Pilates videos from Rachel, The girl with the Pilates Mat., and some cardio with body weight videos that I like. YouTube is such a useful resource.
Struggles:
• Remembering to adjust the intensity of my exercise regimen to take account of medical advice
• Managing the possible weight increase with increased toning strength work

Thank you for writing out some guidelines for us! Me being a visual person I do well with these type of steps.
I also have some index cards filled with motivational things and on times when I struggling I read thru them, each and every one. I call it reprogramming my brain. I am just imputting new data. Doctors say the power of positivity is fascinating! I remember reading (somewhere) that the mind and the brain don't know the difference between fact or fiction. So telling yourself (my mantra) " I am 190 lbs, I am willowy and move with grace" your mind can believe that so your brain chemically tries to make it true. Your brain makes neuron and connects synaptic things (I am no means a doctor so I can't define it for the life of me) but good things happen trying to make my mantra true. I think that's awesome, magical even. The magic of the human body.

Good afternoon ladies
Sheesh did I miss alot..
Went to the rheumatologist, she thinks the pain the hips is bursitis and gave me a bunch of exercises to do..,my thumb have to get a brace.. probably arthritis and the bloodwork.. she sent me for more.. had to take it out of both arms because one decided to not cooperate. Xrays of my hands and hips friday. And then back in 5 weeks to check what she finds on the bloodwork.. I guess the bloodwork they did ,they also did when I was at Yale for the heart surgery and never followed up on it.. which is odd.. but we will get to the bottom of things right before the cruise.
Here is the party boy ..7 -
Terri--Thanks for sharing your 4 step program. Gives me something to think about.
Lisa--Glad you got some answers from your test.
My back and hip are doing a lot better, Now I just need to figure out what is going on with my right foot. It has been swelled up for several days, to the point wearing a shoe for work is very painful. I am wearing support stockings today to see if it helps. Not so far.

My journey? Oh heck. There once was a girl..... Ok not that far back, check. But truly I have always been a "get on the latest bandwagon" type of dieter. Those shake plans? Yep fix me a shake and a bottle for my baby, sure I can do this, until I got bored. Join a gym? Yes please, even when they shouted out my beginning weight to the other gal (across the room) writing stats down. Working out with a heavy dose of humility, sure lets just reinforce that I am a freak. We lived in California and in 2002 our family of 3 sons, husband and I joined a nudist club. For once in my life I could walk with my head held high, in the sun, and truly accept myself. I was 265 lbs at the time. So fast forward to 2008 and I am donating platelets. I could double donate, so leaving the center and them, with 2 glorious gold bags of platelets I felt content, tired and empowered. Husband is waiting for me in the car, and he looks at me with this look. "What"? I exclaim. He paused and says, " you look....bad". Normally I would've just swatted the man, but my brain heard it. "Really?", I answer back. So my brain went outwardly to fix my problem. I called Jenny Craig and this gal on the other end of a phone became buds. I got my food in the mail with dry ice (my sons loved that part and exploded lots of things with it), and she would call me every week for my progress. I went from 265 to 190 lbs in 2 years. Did I learn anything? Not really. I felt like a huge giant eating the villagers food. I still felt like a weirdo. I started lying to the gal that called me and slowly stopped losing. I had a calendar with two numbers. One weight I told her, another weight was my lack of progress. Also spending $400 a month lying. Guilty much? 24/7. I gained my weight back. I shall blame two major factors. #1 I didn't truly recognize my loss in my brain. #2 I suddenly was recognised at the nudist resort as that lady that lost weight. I was in totally unfamiliar territory. Did I intentionally gain weight, certainly not. But I didn't pay attention. I had no skill set to manage a 190 lb person. So 2008-2012 were my slimmest years but also my most unhappiest years. Marriage suffered, husband was diagnosed with liver disease and ultimately liver failure. Stress and me were buds, and I put away my wife hat and wore the caregivers cap. My needs? I just tried to keep us to a semi normal life for our teenager. His name was remembered by EMT guys from all the 911 calls I made, until husband got his liver transplant 2014. He now is healthy, and because he has semi new parts, he will outlive us all! I found intermittent fasting in 2018 and for me it works. Do I do it 24/7, no and that's ok. I am proud of myself in the body I am in right now. Am I at goal? Heck no. I am 247 lbs. But I eat food I like. I buy healthy food and eat it. For someone so great at buying, but amazingly good at turning the food into science experiments in the crisper drawer, that is a big accomplishment for me. I say what I mean and mean what I say! I am authentic! I have a passion for food! Gone are diet foods. I do buy sugar free type foods if I want a sugary type food. Those sugar free mint patties are amazing! Or maybe its the sugar alcohol talking.... So that's my story.💖🤗👍🏼

Here, we have a place called Falling Prices that does the bins and changes prices each day of the week- They are an hour away for the closest one so we don't go often. Usually go on Wed $4day, Thursday is $2 I think. Friday is $1 and Sat. is .50. Such a mess and crazy on Sat. We went once and that was enough. Lots of overstock and returns from Amazon there. That is where I got the first box of my favorite Sweet and Spicy tea and also my sleep aid from Highlands- so sad they discontinued it. It worked so well.
Five Below is like a regular store but things are SUPPOSED to be $5 or less- we just got one in town and saw some stuff was $7.77. We did pick up some nice marker sets for $5. A friend bought a t-shirt that I wish I had seen when I was at the store- would have bought it for son. It is a Japanese tsunami and a bowl or ramen w/chop sticks. I will pick it up if they have it next time we are on that side of town. Would get one for dh if they had his size. Not sure if they run that big there or not.3 -
Rebecca: You are NOT a freak. You are a wonderful unique miracle in progress. You do you so beautifully, dear girl.
For me it was a matter of necessity to change my mindset and lose the weight so that I didn’t end up in a wheelchair.
Lanette: I have paper records going back about 40 years. They are based on a sheet from a Rosemary Connolly book I bought in the 80s. I also recorded daily on my journal, which I started writing in 1993, and have a digital record of my progress on MFP,
I have my 4 step plan notebooks as well, showing how I reviewed and updated through the process, and of course, the MFP tracking logs. Lots of great data to inform my choices.
I also used challenge groups on Community for accountability. I still belong to several of them.
Dining room is decidedly tidier than it was earlier. All my filing is up to date. 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
