SummerSkier wrote: »@eleanorhawkins I am going to have to reread this a few times, But the strangest thing is that I woke up last weekend and my left calf was REALLY hurting. As tho I had had a huge cramp in my sleep or something. I basically hurt for 2 days but NOT when I was running. I even used a massager on it. Could that be karmically connected to you? 😳😳😳 I have never had my calf hurt like that.
CONGRATULATIONS and what a long and emotional race that was. Esp with the last leg and the team "stuff". But you did it. AND you survived. So proud to be able to cheer you on and watch as you trained for this and finished it. And now recover.
I am so tuned out to the news. Earthquake in Tx? Explosion in Tx? A friend texted me (who knows I live in Austin) to ask if I was OK from the explosion which was clearly no where near Austin ... I had to spend 5 minutes figuring out what she was talking about.
@SummerSkier oh wow, how strange! Guess you felt my pain haha! Thank you, it really was an amazing experience and I truly appreciate the support from this wonderful bunch of random internet crazies :-)4 -

I ran 5 miles this morning. The temperature was a nice 55F but the air quality was poor and smoky from nearby wildfires. Rain is in the forecast for this evening and I really hope we get it as there are several wildfires in the area.
Congratulations on your ultra race @eleanorhawkins! So sorry that you fell in the dark but I probably would have long before 2 hours into the race. Hate that the weather and your teammates didn’t play nice – so proud of you for making the other team cross in front of your team! Just another reason you are such a bada$$!

@AlphaHowls cool picture. He looks a bit lost .
@eleanorhawkins I really enjoyed reading your race report. It sounds like a crazy and thrilling event. I am sorry to hear that your actual team didn’t vibe as you had hoped- regardless of whatever the reason was in the end. On the other hand I’m happy to hear that you found an actual support team that you know for a fact will be there for you in a race (and probably outside of run as well). It’s also very inspiring to hear how you hurt yourself and were forced to wait to continue but still never gave up. That is quite a distance you ran! And almost all in the dark!!! Yes, a bit crazy, but also really cool .
I felt like taking it easy today so I did a slower paced 8.1km today, bringing my total to 75.1/200km.
Tomorrow I’m off to a conference. With the schedule/travel it’s going to be hard to get a run in, but I’m taking my shoes just in case .7 -
Well Done @eleanorhawkins. It all sound crazy and a huge accomplishment! As Theresa says U really are a Bada$$. Ur team mates sound like people you don't need in your life.
02/11 3.20 miles
04/11 3.82 miles
05/11 3.25 miles
07/11 3.53 miles
09/11 3.51 miles
17.31/50 miles
A dark misty run and got rained on for last mile but it was really mild and really cleared my head from staring at a computer all day.
6 -
Yes, very impressive race @eleanorhawkins! Just more proof you really are a beast But I agree, you don't need those kind of teammates in your life.
Cold and rainy here today. You just never know what you are going to get from one day to the next here.
So did 6 TM miles.
6 -
Fantastic race @eleanorhawkins and I can't believe you ran it almost all in the dark. You really are a bada$$!! Did I read correctly that you ran 40km? Did the other 2 on your team each run the same distance? I agree that you don't need them in your life. You do have all of us cheering you on even if we can't be there to run with you and I think you will have no problem finding other runners who will support you and appreciate the support you give them.
@AlphaHowls - what kind of critter is that? He does look a bit lost as @Laurz9191 said.
I have had a busier than usual week and have not been feeling great. The fatigue is catching up to me. It has also gotten hot again (into the 80s and 90s). Fortunately next week it is supposed to cool way down and rain is in the forecast! Hope I can get a walk or two in over the weekend and maybe a strength workout.6 -
Thanks everyone!
@shanaber yes, the individual stages were around 40km each, then another 10km together at the end, so 50km altogether with a break in the middle.
It's crazy reading about the weather in different places, and even from one day to the next, at this time of year!5 -
@eleanorhawkins great job and sorry about your "team". Good call on switching things up moving forward though, and that's awesome that you had friends to run the final 10k with. Violin story is cool too. Just a few years ago, we were celebrating your big half marathon finish that you'd worked so hard for. Now you're running 50k for fun 😃. I'm so proud and happy for you!
I've been tentatively planning to quit my running club at the end of the year, but they just decided to end the legal registered assosiation part of it, so not quite like disbanding the club, but moving it down to something much less official and I'm guessing without paying dues. Not sure what I'll be doing. But I don't have to decide right now.
I started a new supplement (Ashwaghandha) and a friend suggested taking it in the morning because it gave him too much energy... yeah. It puts me to sleep. Gonna take a nap now, it's what my body needs anyway. Debating switching to taking it at night, or just taking advantage of the easy naps (=extra recovery).
While the supplement was starting to take effect this morning, I made some brownies from a recipe using bean paste (opened the can without reading it, thinking it was whole beans that I could use in a pot of chili, nope!). Seems wrong but according to my sweet-toothed husband, "they're not that bad"!7 -
Morning all
Got in 5.2M (at 09"38).
Have a nice Friday! 😊
PS: @polskagirl01 bean paste brownies!? 🤢

@polskagirl01 thank you. My insanity just keeps getting worse and worse! I'm pretty sure Ashwaghandha was one of the things in a specific supplement my doc gave me last year to help with peri-menopause related night sweats and insomnia... and it did help. Maybe it wakes males up and sends females to sleep? Hope it helps with something, anyway!

Completely different route/streets from yesterday, but same mileage. It was a nice 59F however the smoke from the fires was still bad making the air quality poor. Thankfully, it’s raining now. Makes it more smoky but hopefully it will assist in putting out the fires and keeping them from spreading. I could smell smoke more strongly when I left the house this morning so I took a different route where I could see the fire on the nearby mountain. It was still burning but in just one spot – at least on my side of the mountain. Not sure what is happening on the other side. Per yesterday’s 6:00 pm news, it was 50% contained at that time.

Another run in the dark. It was strange cos there were loads of stars but no moon. It was a bit windier than I like too.6 -
Currently waiting for my flight home so I figured it's a good time to get caught up on the last few days. No running since the HM but plenty of walking, about 20,000 a day or so. I have a short run scheduled for tomorrow to before picking up my training plan on Monday.
@daria0919 You can definitely do the 10k! @quilteryoyo made some great suggestions for safely getting back to running after some time away.
Welcome @Zakkery86!
@eleanorhawkins Great race report and congrats on finishing! That race sounds like it ended up being just as tough as it seemed like it would be. I would also have loved coming across a violin playing in the middle of nowhere in the dark. That's exactly the kind of random thing that distracts your brain and gives you a little boost.
@Laurz9191 Always take the shoes just in case!8 -
That is a lot of walking @martaindale! Hope you have a safe flight
Was going to skip today because I had a headache and runny nose. But the weather was so nice I couldn't pass it up. Ended up being the fastest 6 miles in a year. Go figure.
7 -
You all have been dong great. I have been busy and not had time to read for a couple of days, but I did just catch up and like/hug as appropriate.
@Teresa502 Nice about the older couple. I would assume that bicyclists have the same issues with access to a bathroom when needed as runners do. Still so sweet of them to offer. Sorry your air quality is bad. I haven't been able to smell it from here. I did see it on the news today though. I hope they get all of the fires contained quickly. It's so dry. We didn't really get enough rain to register at my house. We really do need it.
Welcome @Zakkery86 . I'll try to find you on Strava. I'm Vicky R Greeneville TN.
@eleanorhawkins Great race report. Sorry to hear about the fall and calf cramping. That had to be miserable to have happened early in the race. Cool about the violinist in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night. I'm sure it was a little eerie since you were basically alone when you heard it. You are amazing for doing all you did and love that you let the other team go ahead. You all did great beating your anticipated time by an hour! I hope you have better luck with your new club. All of that would have upset me too, but am glad you are able to let it go since there is nothing to do about it now anyway. I hope your recovery is going well.....from posts I have seen, it seems to be.
I hope you are feeling better @shanaber ! I am impressed by all you do get done.
@polskagirl01 I hope the new supplement helps. You sound like my mom with having the opposite reaction to things that other people have. Enjoy the naps though. Maybe that is what your body needs right now.
Great running @Scott6255 . Maybe you were subconsciously just trying to get it over with, so went faster.

Wednesday, I just walked a couple of miles on the driveway. It was very nice out, but I didn't want to sweat too much and have to take a shower before church. Plus, I was a bit lazy.
Yesterday, I got called into work. I did tell them I had to clean out my gutters first since it was supposed to rain, so spent about an hour on leaves and then worked until 4:30. I just didn't have the energy for a run after I got home.
Today, I did a lot of indoor stuff and paperwork that I have put off for forever. Again, I was basically just a bit lazy, so did a short run while dinner cooked.7 -

@Eleanorhawkins I loved your race report. What a fantastic accomplishment! That is so cool about the violin. I would have loved that. It's a shame about your teammates. I'm glad you had some friends to run with. You definitely don't need those teammates in your life.

@polskagirl01 - An Asian friend of mine used to make little cakes filled with bean paste. When my daughter was small she loved those cakes and was sure they were filled with chocolate 😊5

Morning all
Got in a 10K (at 09"39).
Speaking of sweet stuff... My sister in law showed up last night. Brought me a 'designer' donut. If you like Creme brulee and you like donuts... This one is for you...9 -
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . That "donut" looks amazing.1

I'm supposed to be working today (I work from home) but it's a lovely bright day with blue skies so went for a run and ran further than I planned, now I'm having problems settling back into it. I never work weekends and I think my mind is fighting it. Its like I will do anything but work.8 -

It felt good to run 10k again. I'm working on tweaking the pace so that I'm pushing, but not burning out before I'm done - the last 2k were pretty uncomfortable. But I shaved off a little more than 2 minutes from the last 10k. Ideally, I would like to be under 60 minutes, but I still have some work to do for that.9 -
Happy Saturday runners! Up to 64 out of 100 goal for the month. Just taking it day by day because the weather this time of year can be amazing or disgusting. 🤣🤣 It was HUMID cloudy and 52 this morning. Almost drizzly. I wore shorts, a tank, a long sleeve and a vest and a hat. By mile 4 the hat came off and I was way too warm with the vest and long sleeve. I was also too lazy to stop and take the shirt off. Hahaha. My Polar strap is rediculous. I think the 2 little snaps do not connect correctly so it halves my HR. I know I am not running at 82 bpm. Anyway, my watch struggles to get a HR I guess due to the arm movement so it only will pickup random #s every once in a while. I decided to push the pace on the 2nd half of the run and did sprints for 100 steps, 60 steps, 100 steps etc whenever a new song came on. Ended the 7 miler with 2 splits under 10min miles which is nice. And my HR apparently never got over 170. 🤪🙃 I have found that having siri tell me my pace every qtr mile keeps me honest vs just every mile.9

Glad I found this group/thread! Going to try to run 60km between now and end-Nov. (15km per week for the next 4 weeks). Normally track runs on Strava, so anyone regular there, is welcome to add too! Good luck, team! https://www.strava.com/athletes/zak_brockman
First 6k in the bag! Motivation to get out mainly thanks to this group. Thanks, team [6.2/60] Will head out again tomorrow morning. Cheers for the add on Strava Jennifer and Vicky!10 -
