Thanks Terri.
But Rhody is our black cat.

Machka I am a wee bit jealous of the vacation /mindset of other countries. In the US so many people don't even take the two weeks that is pretty standard with most companies after 2 years. Work is the most important. Even the government only get 30 days. Some institutions, like larger banks do have a better system, such as after 5 years you get two weeks can "buy" one, 10 years, 3 weeks "buy 1, 15 years my friend got 4 weeks and could buy 2. But smaller businesses rarely offer more than 1-2 weeks. Restaurants rarely offer any paid vacations. We don't really have a written plan. Two of us have been there over 25 yrs (excluding DH and SIL) and are salary. We take off 2 weeks plus a few days here or there with pay. Our one hourly full time gets a week paid for first 5 years then two weeks. Our part time guy has no vacation time paid. I am trying to implement some "policy" changes that will get everyone a two day weekend every 3 weeks or changing hours to open early or work late a couple of nights during the week and close on weekends. The second option not making any headway. Our policy is kind of relaxed, but I feel guilty and know work will be piling up while I am gone.
I am so happy for you though!
I got 10k steps yesterday. Started walkaday app yesterday morning, paced while on phone, took a few minutes here or there to walk in back of shop. I slept over 7 hrs last night! Normally lucky to get 6! Need to get walking this morning.
For my US folks, remember to vote.
Hugs especially for those hurting.
High fives to the great life choices we make every day!
Thankful for the life sharing and experiences here.

The Trip - Part 1
Roughly about 3 months ago, things fell into place to allow us to leave Tasmania sometime. About the same time, a work friend of mine mentioned that he and his wife were planning their first trip to Europe since COVID to see her parents and do a bit of travelling. I mentioned what was just an idea at that time ... that we might finally be able to go and see my family.
That set things off.
In a very short period of time, I had a massive list of things to do and was adding to it every day. My work friend loves researching things ... especially things like travel plans ... so he was a great help to me and we reminded each other to check on this or that, suggested options, etc..
My list continued to grow .... and before I knew it, a concrete plan was beginning to form.
It had been 6 years since we had travelled, really travelled, so I was rusty at the whole process AND things have changed with my husband so we couldn't travel like we used to do.
We used to do long-haul flights where we'd be either in transit or waiting in an airport for 30+ hours. Obviously we couldn't do that now, so I had to break the trip up. Not easy when there's a whole Pacific Ocean with not a lot of islands in it ... and when some of the Hawaiian airports weren't taking their usual number of flights because of the fires there.
We also never used to care where our seats were and we could be crammed in anywhere ... but with my husband's situation, I knew we needed extra room and privacy.
There were so many things like that I had to take into consideration.
So that kept me busy this winter.
Plus in the midst of all the travel planning, I applied for a job I was kind of interested in, and ended up getting an interview. I placed a close second for the position, and that was OK with me. It gave me a chance to get my CV etc. up to date.
I had a really busy winter!!
And now, I'm thinking about sleep again.

The Trip - Part 2
This trip had certain complications and the first was that we needed to take care of Rhody, our cat.
In fact, I had started planning other aspects of the trip, when I realised that I needed to sort out something for Rhody first, then plan the trip around when he could be cared for.
We found quite a good place and we have been pleased. We emailed a few times, back and forth and were sent a photo of Rhody in about the middle of the time. That contact was good. Rhody wasn't overly happy with it and didn't want to come out much, but he was eating and drinking and healthy. We suspect he probably made use of the outdoor section at night when people weren't around.
We picked him up today and he has been so incredibly happy. He's not an overly cuddly cat, but this is the most cuddly he's ever been!
Here he is at home on my work table, sitting near me.

I just couldn't deal with such little time off.
It was a bit better in Canada, but even there, I got on with a company that had better than average holiday time, and when I left, I went into contract positions so that I could work for a certain time period, then take a break of a month or so, then go into my next contract.
Someone asked if I would be moving back to Canada ... the answer is, not in the near future!
One of reasons for that is the holiday time. I'd have to get a job there, and I'd likely be down to 1 week of paid holiday time in the first year, 2 weeks from years 2-5, and 3 weeks until year 10. I like the work I currently do, and may like similar work in Canada, but I'm just not that interested in working that much. There's way too much life outside work!
So I've now used another couple weeks of my annual leave and 4 weeks of my long service leave (I think) for a total of 6 weeks off. Although I am home, I don't return to work until next week.

Good morning ladies!
Ginny Happy birthday!
Kylia that Bronco looks great!
My knee is acting up and now I remember why I was exercising so much. Today and tomorrow will be very busy days though. My mom's 91st birthday is tomorrow. I have to bake a cake and buy some paper plates and napkins and forks.
And make a few phone calls and document some stuff. And sit around and drink tea. Too many excuses.

Annie Pace while on phone as much as possible. Like while on hold. Park further away at store. Take a loop around store before picking up items.
Just suggestions....5 -

Good morning ladies!
Rosie alarm went off at 1:30 (2:30 last week) so I'm up. Cleaner coming this morning so playing pick-up. She has plantar fascitis and still keeps going with cleaning, will be a few minutes late this morning due to PT appointment.
Machka - was Canada like you remembered it? So nice that you had a lot of leave and were able to take plenty of time on your visit back here to N. America. Did you have any adventures - visit any old haunts? Hope your allergies subside for good now that you are back in "home" territory.
In the US, some government jobs, with unions, grant a lot of vacation. It's been a while and I don't have a copy of the union contract anymore, but it seems long time employees can get up to 3 or 4 weeks per year, and accrue several year's worth. A lot of county employees are on a 4-10 workweek so already get a three day weekend. When I retired, I was able to cash out months of accrued vacation and sick pay.
Carol - Thinking about your BIL and how nice it was for your DH (and you) to have stepped in to oversee his care. Gives a person a glimpse of everything involved, possible outcomes as we age, and how to handle and plan. I know that looking back, my experience with DH has made me realize what I can do right now to preserve my health (and brain) as much as possible. Hope your neck is doing better.
Rebecca- so happy that your son contacted you and you got to have a good long visit. I love the setting of your house in amongst the trees, what a nice location with the deer in the back yard even though you get to hear the pinecones thumping sometimes. I remember the elk that used to come visit you when you lived near Astoria.
Tracey - your crafts are adorable. Are you using a band saw to cut the wooden blocks or are you able to find scrap wood for most of them? I can imagine the good feeling seeing them finished and displayed like that - they are works of art.
Lisa - you are another "surprise artist" in this group - did you know you had talent as a potter? Your craft room is working out great.
Annie - glad to hear the social worker will send someone out to do an assessment. I wonder if part of the process would be to observe and assess your dad's mental state and give recommendations. Maybe they already have. Continued big hugs to you. Happy 91st to your mom.
Kylia - that Bronco paint detail is really nice - that takes a lot of skill! Good job on getting the steps in. I just did 11 minutes in my house at a kind of brisk pace in places (had to do a little Rosie dodging) and logged 1200 steps. The walk-right-after-I-eat thing. Before I got started, I put on my walking shoes and I think the extra support helps. My knees are also a little cranky today, yesterday I did my house walk in my house-shoes which don't have good support.
Waiting for the sky to lighten up so I can let the hens out. We are supposed to get some sunshine today so the plan is to distribute chicken coop bedding on parts of the lawn back by the powerline where grass is sparse and I had trees taken out. Will be interesting to see what that hit of nitrogen does next spring.
Have a great day!

Good morning, ladies.
Tracey, your little people and buildings are so cute! You are very talented.
Had a very nice family visit with DD and family. Although they just live a couple of hours away, the last visit we had with them was in September for granddaughter's birthday so nice to catch up. They are very busy now with grandson's hockey and most weekends are tied up. Grandson is 12 and a very good hockey player. His coach uses him during the practice drills. He's told to skate and the other team members are told to try and catch up to him which they can't do as he is a very fast skater. I'm glad that he has found something that he enjoys so much.
It's been very foggy here the last couple of days with yesterday being the worst. Finally cleared today but now a mist is falling which is going to freeze later today I'm sure making for slippery conditions. Have to go in to town later this week for our flu shots.

Good morning from the warm, sunny, central U.S.,
Corey put in some serious hours on Saturday and then again on Monday and got the floor finished on the sunroom addition:
This coming weekend will be walls and roof. The boards going across at about head height are there to hold the posts in place until he gets the walls put up... and I put in the order for the lumber to be delivered for the walls and roof on Saturday. Supposed to rain on Thursday, so am hoping the weather critters are right about the weather being dry and cool for the weekend.
Dishwasher has been started, and the dryer went off a moment ago, so a few things to fold. I'm still all higgledy-piggledy in terms of a routine. Between the time change and Corey being home on Monday, I'm just off balance. Then again, not that sure I was balanced to begin with.
Heather - Glad to see you're feeling better. You're very zen-like these days.
Lanette - Working in three-dimensional art is new for me. I am enjoying stretching out into pottery classes and self-teaching from the internet with the polymer clay, too. I've done most of my past work building pictures with words, using fabric to create useful items like quilts and pillows and purses, crocheting afghans, and started painting in acrylics about seven years ago, as a quasi-community thing with friends when I still lived in Texas. In all reality, I believe anyone can do any of the things I'm doing if they're willing to take the time. Most people simply don't want to or just can't find the time to add these things to a too-busy life. I do think some people come installed with an urge to create, and I'm certainly one of those.
Carol - I'm so sorry your brother-in-law's state is deteriorating, but am glad there are facilities where he can be accommodated.
Machka - That had to feel like flinging the gates of a prison open, to be able to finally go home again. I'm so pleased for you.
Kylia - Loved the bling on the Bronco!
Am almost done Christmas shopping, and it's not a lot, but I'm OK with that. I bought some small things for my son and daughter, and their significant others, and the only Christmas stuff left for me to do is to get something for my oldest grandson. I need to get an address for him from my daughter. I already picked some pieces off their Christmas wishlists for the younger two grands and had them drop-shipped to my daughter. Once I've got the packages for the big'uns ready to ship, I'll get them in my vehicle and combine a post office trip in the next week or so with something else to be done in town.
Just got off the phone with my daughter in Hawaii, on her way to drop her daughter to school and head for work herself, and come to find out Hawaii doesn't observe daylight savings time, so now we're only four hours apart instead of five!
Speaking of which, there's a new project on my list... when I hung the living room clock back on the wall after I moved the clock back an hour, I must have missed the hanger--it fell as soon as I turned away from it and busted into its pieces parts. It was a $5 garage sale buy years ago, not valuable at all, so not exactly a tragedy. However, the clock face and mechanism came through unscathed, so I'm going to see if I can make something out of clay to house them. Should be interesting.
Later, y'all...
Love,
Lisa in AR

hi gals....
Lisa - I have a clock that was a horizontal slice of a tree all cleaned up and then oiled and a hole drilled for the clock mechanism and the numbers glued in place I really love it... I am sure you can make something personal in clay.

Yes, the elk..... I miss the beach herd. So quiet and graceful. The head bulls were so bossy though. I used to yell down to them, "hey be nice to the ladies"!😂 If our sliding door was open oh you could smell them though. We have one elk here on Whidbey. A bruiser bull is here though.

I have yet to spy him. At 1,000 lbs though he's hard to miss.💖
When we first moved here, I so missed the coast, the fierce storms, the sunny days, and the scent of the sea. I have acclimated though, and there are so many pluses. The base gym, the commissary, less people, the quiet of this house, no neighbors right on the other side of a wall, more money, better quality of life for us. The fact that son pays half and we pay the other half of the rent, ours lives will be intermingled for a long time. I am really grateful he is. The thought of us back in an apartment, living on top of each other, having to use food banks to supplement our pantry was tough. We have a lot more choices now, and I feel blessed.😁💖👍🏼🙏

I find that the Early Girl tomatoes are the only ones that do well here. It gets really hot in the summer. We’ve had a frost so all tomatoes and peppers are gone. The herbs have stopped growing and my mums are done for the year. I need to cover my herbs to see if I can get them through the winter. When I lived in CT they lived through the winter but for some reason, they haven’t done well in the winter here. Could be because they are in pots.
I tried the zen doodles and had fun with it. My DH is artistic and was telling me to do mirror letters-I’m not sure I can do that but will make him happy and ask for him to show me. I have played with calligraphy a few time and have a kit, but I need a whole lot more practice. My hand-eye coordination is not too good.

And Today Is:
Have a wonderful day!

M – about the gun in the office, Vince can just grab it if some child (older) tries to push into the house.
Barbara – I am seriously considering switching. But I wouldn’t do it until June when my Silver & Fit expires. I could probably do it now, but this is the government and what can be messed up will be. The only thing that I wish they had was an indoor walking track, but I can probably work around that by walking around the gym. I do like the fact that all ages of people go there, I don’t feel like “that old lady”
M – happy you got to visit with your family. You should have shared this with us sooner. How wonderful for you!
Vicki – in case I didn’t say it...happy anniversary. I’ve been looking for Crocs. But, of course, this isn’t the season for them. When summer starts up next year (can’t come too soon for me, that’s for sure) I’ll get some more. The ones I’ve found aren’t like what I want
Carol GA – (((HUGS))) I remember how hard it was to see MIL in that condition
No work tomorrow but I have to go for the blood test. The plan is to go to the gym and, depending on how I feel, either do some HIIT or just walking on the treadmill.
Heather – glad you are feeling better
Ginny – in case I didn’t say it...happy birthday
Kylia – I know that a lot of companies require you to take the two weeks of vacation. This has to do with the fact that if a person was embezzling, it would show up (probably). But people don’t want to
barbie – how many steps do you usually get in when you take your dogs for a 2-hour walk
Annie – happy birthday to your mom. And you remember to breathe!!!
Made more protein pancakes. Now have a load of laundry in the dryer. I needed to change the bedspread in our back bedroom from the summer bedspread to the winter one, so I decided I’d better wash the sheets, too Think I'll go out for my walk in a few

Oops my post to Lanette seems to have posted twice. Strange.
Well today husband has to make some copies at the library for a solo board game he's organizing on his gaming table. He asked me if I wished a Rueben sandwich from Arby's. The bread they use is a swirl rye bread, really yummy. Plus just the right amount of sauerkraut, corned beef, and dressing.👍🏼💖
Still need to write my pen pals. Its a hobby, but I definitely have to be in the right mood, and want to write.
Husband has started going again to the gym. He waits until 6:30 am to drive in, and by then there is enough light. 6:30 am is a bit early for me to want to do anything. I did wake up at 7:00 am, took a nice shower, gave myself a coconut oil massage from toes to nose. Its amazing how much my skin drinks it all in. I put a fluffy towel on my bed, and massage in and lie there like The Queen of Sheba waiting for the oil to soak in.😂.
Enjoy the day all!

Hidee Ho ladies
Its been a day...went to the drs this morning and she gave cortisone shots in each hip. That was an experience..
Then came home and picked up Alfie and we went to see Doris and visited for a bit and that was fun..
Stopped at the garage and had them take off my plates because its a hop skip and a jump from my place,so put a plate in the window on the ride home and went up to Carolyn's and left the 2nd set of keys and signed the bill of sale.. so the car is Dianes now..
Carolyn ( who is Dianes mom) will drop me off at the dealership tomorrow morning.
Right now im tired..2 -
Carol--It is so hard to see our love ones like this. Sending prayers and hugs that you find the right place for him. He is lucky to have you and DH looking out for him.
Machka--So happy for you that you got to visit family and that things are settled and you can breathe and make plans.
Not a lot going on here, just working.

Thanks Terri.
But Rhody is our black cat.

Oops! Senior moment! I meant Rowan, of course.
Filling was relatively painless. That’s me dentally sorted for 6 months
DH is doing the shopping tomorrow and I will stay home with Jack. He gets very anxious if we leave him alone. His momma will be home from Malta around lunchtime on Thursday. I have flower arranging after lunch on Thursday.
