Lanette the home health company will send a nurse to assess the house probably Monday. Seems like they could do that before Mom gets home, but who knows what the insurance rules require. The big problems are rugs and stairs. Right now my dad has his tools all over as well. He is installing some railings.
I wonder if Mom will want a new recliner instead of the couch, which is rather deep. She might have trouble getting out of it. Or she might be safer not getting up without supervision.
I'm more worried about her trying to use the stove.

How many of us have a teddy bear of some kind at home? We’ll have a party with the bear and read it a story while going for fast food today. Lots more in spoiler. And Today Is
There is one I want to comment on, but there isn’t a nice way to put it without sounding nasty….. 🤪 Guess! LOL

Heather - Ah, that makes sense. I'm glad the lightening is beginning.
Screwed up and forgot to send the roofer my address, and we were one of more than a hundred jobs last year, so he couldn't quite remember which one was us, bless him. He's coming out tomorrow instead. Went to pick up my fired pottery and glaze my last three pieces. These are the finished ones:
And these are the last three pieces before I put the glaze on. They will match the rest, as I really love that deep blue:
She hopes to get them in the kiln for the final glaze by Thanksgiving, so I ought to be able to pick them up the week after.
Hope it is/was a good day,

Those are beautiful! I thought they might come out looking something like that and was looking forward to seeing them.

I bought myself a new pair of black suede ankle boots by Clark through Amazon. They fit! Yay! I will wear them on Thanksgiving with my black and grey camo pants and a big fuzzy purple cowl neck sweater. Then I need earrings, but I have several choices.
My dad left his car running in the garage with the door open. He can't hear it running. His driving days are coming to an end soon.

Please contact someone from your local Home Health Care for both your parents. Do some google research to find out what sources of assessment and help are available.

I used to have a collection of stuffed sheep from my days of fiber festivals. There are two that escaped from storage. Maybe I need a stuffed border collie sheepdog?
I bought a sweater. Thanks for all your input, and helping me think things through. Although I like the chunky sweater pictures, I picked a thinner fitted v-neck with a collar in a wine red. I think I will be happier going out to lunch in that. And now I have really got to stop shopping and save some money for Christmas!! Although this sweater could be my Christmas present from my parents. Still, no more shopping until after Thanksgiving!!

I lost my Godson at 20 yrs old ,20 yrs ago to a drunk driving accident
He was driving and didn't make a curve and hit a tree.
One of the most heart wrenching days of my life for sure.
Yes Annie.. both your parent's it seems are going to need more help than you might be able to handle..make sure social services gives you all the help they can.3 -
1. Make a list of new things you want to do this month.
I have a massive list of things to do. Always. I'm never bored.
In November, however, we're organising a cycling event mid-month, and then there's another one right at the beginning of December.
My garden needs mid-spring work.
I need more mid-spring exercise.
Lots of things!!
2. Respond to a difficult situation in a different way.
I try things ... and then I go to Google to find different things to try.
3. Get outside and observe the changes in nature around you.
I am outside whenever I can. Love nature! And one really nice thing about returning to Tasmania is that we're going into summer.
4. Sign up to join a new course, activity, or online community.
How about I just finish the course I started some time ago.
5. Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel.
My November 5th didn't exist. How's that for a changed routine!
6. Try out a new way of being physically active.
Today, my physical activity was standing in line and walking.
7. Be creative. Cook, draw, write, paint, make or inspire.
Yesterday wasn't a particularly creative day although, in the evening, I did resume work on a colouring that I had nearly finished before we left.
8. Plan a new idea or activity you want to try out this year.
I have a list!!
But today, I might unpack.
9. When you feel you can’t do something, add the word ‘yet’.
That's why I take courses ... to learn new things and learn how to do new things.
10. Be curious, learn about a new topic or an inspiring idea.
Always!!
11. Choose a different route and see what you notice on the way.
I've been exploring the shops in Hobart CBD. I haven't seen them for about 6 weeks! They haven't changed much.
12. Find out something new about someone you care about.
I did find out something new about my husband while we were away. He told me a little bit about his childhood.
13. Do something playful outdoors - walk, run, explore, relax.
Whenever I can!! I'll be heading outside shortly.
14. Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about.
I've been busy organise cycling events.
Human powered transportation is a cause I care about. That and exercise in general.
15. Build on new ideas by thinking “yes, and what if…”
I do this a lot at work, especially when I'm working on programs and making tasks easier.
16. Look at life at someone else’s eyes and see their perspective.
I have done this a lot more since my husband's brain injury.
There are a lot of people in the world who have mental health issues and/or physical issues.
A few points above mentioned causes I care about.
Related to human powered transportation is ease of getting around. Since my husband's accident, I've become aware of how appalling the footpaths and various things around here are. They have been left to deteriorate or worse, have been designed in such a way that people with physical issues have a lot of difficulty getting around.
17. Try a new way to practice self-care and be kind to yourself.
Last night I slept long and deeply!!
I needed it! This first week back at work has been stressful.
Shortly, I am thinking of going out into the garden.18. Connect with someone from a different generation.
19. Broaden your perspective: read a different paper, magazine, or site.
20. Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you haven’t used before.
21. Learn a new skill from a friend or share one of yours with them.
22. Find a new way to tell someone you appreciate them.
23. Set aside a time to pursue an activity your love.
24. Share with a friend something useful you learned recently.
25. Use one of your strengths in a new and creative way.
26. Try out a different radio station or new TV show.
27. Join a friend doing a hobby and find out why they love it.
28. Discover your creative side. Design a friendly greeting card.
29. Enjoy new music today. Play, sing, dance or listen.
30. Look for new reasons to be hopeful, even in tough times.

Lisa - I love that big tray. I can imagine it in a bathroom with some nice toiletries on it. The thrown vase is a great shape. What a lot of patience for the woven piece!
Is the pottery something you are going to pursue?
I think today we are finally going to be able to get into town to buy John's cap. Yesterday was a washout, weather wise.
I have bought a few bits for our anniversary on Monday. Going to wrap them and I will paint a card. One present is a timer on a lanyard, so he doesn't burn the stewed fruit if he has to go into the garden.
Of course, he'll forget to use it.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Spent about 3 hours wielding my mattock in the garden. I'm getting 3 beds ready for planting veggies and discovered the answer to the mystery of the short carrots last season ... rocks and roots!!
I will probably feel those 3 hours tomorrow!!

Today’s gratitude: waking up here, in this time, place, lifetime. Dreamt was visiting a place I really liked, saying “I want to live here!” (because of the amenities and view). Gradually the dream shifted, the people crowded in, separated Joe from me. Every path out was a false trail, leading me deeper and deeper in and away. Ugh.
Thanks Vicki, I needed that.
Lisa the pottery and the deep blue too!!! Hope Corey ok’s the roofer. Joe’s finally agreed to hire out cleaning the gutters, now to find someone [sigh].
Carol hope no aftereffects from the test and that results are favorable.
Vicki ((hugs)) hard day.
Allie hope you feel better soon. Thankful for all the cutie pie pics.
Annie ((hugs)) Hard decisions coming your way. ((hugs))
Machka I can see you organizing your TBI group to partner with other disabled groups to make those deteriorated footpaths accessible to all. Bravissima.
Tracey thanks for the memes, they made me smile!
Heather glad to hear you sounding more like yourself. Whew!
Rant:repair guy came. Part Sears sent (temperature sensor) is not the problem. It’s the igniter. Called virtual tech, will send igniter to arrive in 5-7 business days. Won’t get here before Thanksgiving. Much frustration with automated systems, website etc. Found FB page, messaged this: “ Oct 31 Samsung oven won't heat up. First available repair appointment Dec 6! Virtual technician called, sent temperature sensor. Local repairman came, trouble is not temperature sensor but igniter. Virtual technician will sent but part will not arrive before Thanksgiving. Sears is not living up to its obligation under the extended warranty I paid for. I want the part expedited and any expense for local repairman refunded. Was so mad I posted same to NextDoor asking if anyone had the phone number for our state’s consumer affairs department. Hours later this came in FB from Sears: “Hello Barbara, thank you for providing your information. We do see that the temperature sensor was ordered. Our parts come directly from the manufacturer and cannot be expedited. If you would like to seek a local provider under your protection agreement, please be sure to get pre-approval from the Protection Agreement team or you will not be reimbursed for the service. You can do this by calling 1-800-469-4663 or by visiting https://www.agreementbenefits.com/ to request approval. Thank you” I’ll call them tomorrow. Trying to be grateful that Joe really doesn’t want any Thanksgiving celebration or feast. I’m so angry I’ve given myself a headache. Now I see why I need to meditate, my equanimity shot out the window and emotional resilience is nowhere to be found. The only silver lining is that I have not yet self-medicated with red wine.11/16: Move: ZERO sets PT , dogs to powerline. Steps: 4519,

Good morning ladies!
Today I am off to Walmart for Ensure and Depends. That is the next phase of this adventure. No wonder I was buying flashy new things on Amazon. By the way, I found something they don't carry- kits to knit a sweater. Maybe Etsy has them. Or maybe I don't really need one!

Barbara AHMOD - Service as an industry is honestly just dead. I'm sorry it's been such a nightmare with getting the stove fixed. It was the night for odd dreams, I guess.I dreamed I walked down into the basement (we don't have a basement) and my sister was buried in the concrete floor, with her head poking up above it. She opened her eyes and we started talking, and then stood up, like she was in the sand at the beach, and the concrete floor just fell off of her like that same sand. It seemed perfectly normal at the time.
Kylia - You are just un"bear"ably cute with your stuffies... 🐻🐻❄️🐻🐼
Annie - I was starting to get worried about it, reading your posts, and it turned out you're aware of it - retail therapy is a thing. When things get horribly stressful (and lord, it's scary with your dad leaving the engine running), you immediately afterward post about shopping for clothes or jewelry. Be careful of that, dear heart. If you can find a different way of coping, like exercise or reading or writing or making something, it is a whole lot less expensive.
More in a second post,
Love,

Thank you all soooo much for the lovely words on the pottery, and the short answer, Heather, is no, I won't be pursuing pottery as any kind of regular indulgence or vocation. I triggered a minor phobia during that eight-week class that I didn't even know I had.
I get very uncomfortable when my hands are dirty. Not just a little uncomfortable either. I've always worn gloves for gardening and dishwashing, and anything where my hands could get smelly or mucky, and not thought about it that much. But when you're throwing clay, you can't wear gloves. I would get more and more clay-covered, and the muddier I got, the twitchier I got.
However, you just can't walk away to wash your hands when you're working on the wheel. I dealt with it long enough to make the pieces I made for the class, but I watched my classmate just revel in working on the wheel, and she was absolutely in heaven. She was even in the lab last night while I was finishing up my glazing, and she was throwing even more pieces. You could tell how much she loved it.
As for me, I'll paint all day long, but can't handle being dirty... Seriously, Freud would just have so much fun poking at my tattered little twisty psyche. Ah well. Luckily, he's dead.
Here's the verdict on the other piece I'm working on. Egg always loves the pieces I make while they are in progress... I've finished the main midnight-blue background of my grandson's afghan, and as soon as I can get to it without a kitty on it, I'll start fastening the "stars" on for the constellation of Orion. I'll have to pin them on and then sew them on by hand. Then I need to put the story together and printed out on how I've always been able to see Orion on the darkest nights of winter, no matter where I lived, so I always felt like I was home, because the people I loved could see it too.
Later, my chickens,
Love from Arkansas,
Lisa

Barbara- the local community pages I check out on Facebook have a number of guys that are advertising gutter clean out services. I keep noticing one who has a business license and does all kinds of handyman type jobs as well. I'm going to check him out for future tasks I might need to have done. Asking folks at your church or a favorite store where you shop for referrals might be productive too if you haven't found anyone yet.
A pox on everyone who was involved with of that oven repair part mess up. Also, let's add bird of paradise up the nose, elephant caressing them with toes, etc.
Annie - not sure how old your parent's house is - are there circuit breakers for the stove? I noticed mine has a dedicated one. I don't know if popping it on and off all the time would damage it, but it sure would stop current to the thing. This might be overkill and a too-drastic solution plus a pain in the rear. Maybe the home assessment person will have some good ideas.
Kylia - love your walking partner! And the photo of the bears relaxing, lol.
Lawn job today:It's supposed to be sunny this afternoon, and I need to get more yard work done. I took the little blower out yesterday and spread fallen maple leaves all over the front lawn where the grass is sparse and always takes a hit from summer drought. Leaves will add some humus as they break down more over the winter. Mowing over them with the big mower - it has a side discharge that blows them into rows yards away which isn't what I want. If the leaves are dry enough, my push mower might do the trick but it clogs easily if it hits any wet grass and there's plenty peeking through. I used the weed eater on leaves in the back last week and it did a fairly nice job of breaking them up a bit.
I have the big mower put away for the winter and besides, it's heavy and leaves ruts in the wet soil.
Anything to entertain the neighbors and make them feel less despondent over the state of THEIR lawns, lol.
And, I might take some of chicken "bedding" and toss in around on the 1/4 acre back side yard which is completely hidden from public view. It's in the same condition as that big patch in the front yard. Should have minimal smell. Anxious to see if the nitrogen does the trick.
I slept nearly 8 hours last night, good sleep. Milk and a CuraMed did the trick maybe. A few triscuits helped too? Whatever it was, I'm very grateful and needed the sleep.
That's it for now. Make it a good day!

Barbara, We have lived in fairly rural settings far from the big city for all of my adult life. I love the places I've lived but the tradeoff has been that services and retail and medical are not as easily available as they would be if we lived in the city or nearby suburbs. I am grateful every day for the calm peaceful places I've lived and have learned to live with the frustration.
Lisa, Your blue creations are beautiful.
Annie, Take it all one step at a time and you'll be able to provide a safe and loving home for your parents. Exercise and meditation will help you with the stress. Knitting a sweater is not as easy as a kit might suggest. Getting something to fit correctly is an art. I have knit a lot of sweaters and they didn't all fit. Buy a sweater, knit a hat. You'll get better results.
During my life I've done most of the holiday things people do (frosted cookies, cookie exchange party, giant Christmas tree with carefully chosen and curated ornaments, driven around looking at lights, making and sending hundreds of Christmas cards, making festive holiday meals, doing a dozen holiday theme art projects with first and second graders, line dancing at assisted living homes, knitting hundreds of Christmas stockings for gifts and for sale, going to holiday craft bazaars, outdoor decorations, indoor decorations, and probably a few more that I've forgotten). I loved every minute of it right up to the moment when I decided that I'd had enough and stopped doing it. Now I do nothing about the holidays except enjoy the lights that my neighbours put in their yards. Holidays should be fun and they have been for me.

Heather have you had your Vit D levels checked and thyroid. If these are off they can affect your mood and sleep.
LisaAdd my voice to how gorgeous I think your pottery is!
Speaking of repairs. We have had a stretch of mild weather. Still I noticed water around my HVac Furnace at son's house. We have worked with the company I called for over thirty years. When I called she said she could send someone the next day or I would have to wait until after Thanksgiving. Colder weather is coming so I changed my plans and had the technician I like come out and service the Hvac. Turns out a tube that connects to the pump that removes the water from the Hvac came loose. I was so fortunate to get this fixed when I did because Thanksgiving day is going to be a high of 26. I give the people who come to do repairs a tip and or a Target gift card. I know it is already expensive to get work done. Here is US even paying more does not mean you get good service or the work done right. So when I find a good workman I give extra. I know the furnace would have been in trouble if it had not been repaired. With the type of winter we have here you are in trouble without a good working furnace!
I tried ginger tea last night rather than a snack of cheese and crackers and slept much better. Recipe Grated Fresh ginger about a thumbnail worth in a cup of water boiled for 7-10 minutes. Added a dash of sea salt, cinnamon, a slice of lemon juiced, half tsp of local honey in a glass jar.

Lanette it is a gas stove. I will ask the nurse. For now I have the knob locks on, so that I have to take the knob off to turn on the stove.
Lisa yes I shop to feel better. It's an identity thing; I'd rather be a person who buys perfect outfits than a person who cleans up after my father. And I enjoy the analysis of comparing the items. Plus I like to share my pleasure instead of always complaining.
I bought myself boots and a sweater and a bracelet for my birthday. That's plenty. Then I will choose something for my parents to give me for Christmas and be done for the year. That's the plan!

Lisa- The pottery is gorgeous! Not sure WHY you couldn't wear gloves while working with clay. I would try it, if I wanted to pursue a hobby I liked. My hubby uses Capzasin with the no mess applicator (roll on). We usually have to order it online, as the stores don't seem to carry it regularly. Same with Joint Flex with Turmeric. All of that stuff has gotten SO expensive! I have decided to look into making my own pain relief creams using turmeric and capzacin.
More of you I want to reply to; but will have to wait until tomorrow or Sunday! ttfn xoxox KJ (Kelly)3 -
We had a very productive afternoon! Managed to get to the hat shop to buy John the tweed cap I had promised him for his birthday. This is the third one he's had! The other two were lost/stolen.
We also stopped at the sausage shop. Only four fennel ones left, so we snapped those up, and bought another four, the same, but with jalapeños in them. Hope they are not too hot for John.
When we got off the bus, we were opposite the Halal shop that also sells frozen fish. I like their bags of tilapia to add to the jars of fish soup. Bought that.
John has gone off to the fish market to buy the fish for Monday's fish pie. We can freeze it.
Unfortunately, Edie can't come tomorrow for a painting session, as her cycling club has its prize giving day! But the Christmas Eve pancake lunch for the grandchildren is on.
Now got to think about their presents. I will ask DDIL. Edie loves to make a 'French dressing', so I'm thinking, for an extra, to get one of those 2 in 1 oil and vinegar sets. Amazon have some fun ones. I'm not buying any adult presents this year, apart from John's 'stocking'.
Kylia - I can see why you love them, but your soft toy collection freaked out my minimal/decluttering soul! But ..... whatever brings you happiness.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Kelly I like Arnica cream or gel too for joint and muscle ache. It is a blood thinner too like turmeric so if on a blood thinner consult your doctor for safety. There is also a homopathic arnica remedy. I would not use if on blood thinners.1

Well of course I was right back on Amazon to get non-dairy meal replacement shakes. I tried Walmart but they only had dairy ones. I did get the disposable underwear at Walmart. First time I've been there in over a year. What a huge busy store!
